A word from Restaurant Tallent
Restaurant Tallent offers a beautiful modern space, delicious seasonal cuisine, and a carefully chosen wine list with several wines by the glass. The menu at Restaurant Tallent changes several times throughout the year and primarily reflects what is available in the Southern Indiana region during that season. Both David and Kristen Tallent design the menu with regionally produced cheeses, fruits, vegetables and meats as the raw material. To ensure that the highest quality meat and produce is available for seasonal menu items, Restaurant Tallent works closely with local farmers and artisan food producers. Their combination of Old World culinary methods and mid-Western produce and meats results in a distinctly Indiana cuisine.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Went a few months back and it was incredible. Our favorite date night spot. Service is attentive, without being overwhelming. "

  • "The food was very well prepared with subtle, complex seasonings. I had the pork belly (very succulent) and my wife had the halibut (they ran out of the walleye). The food was presented nicely and the portions were just right. My sides were ricotta grits, brussel sprouts, country ham and chestnuts. Simply amazing flavors. We had a waitress in training and she was okay. She forgot to remove plates between courses. My wife stated that her sauvignon blanc was outstanding and everything was done just right."

  • "All around great experience. Food and atmosphere was great."

  • "Oh what a find! After spending the past three years in the East Bay of California and visiting Napa or Sonoma Valley once every six weeks or so, we had become quite the foodies. Let me tell you, that Restaurant Tallent did not dissapoint! It was clear that the chef had trained at the CIA in St. Helena. The food was outstanding in both number and variety of ingredients and presentation but mostly just in the subtle and delicious flavors. The Winter Vegetable salad was fantastic, and the Halibut was cooked to perfection. My girls had the rib-eye steak which was phenomenal and required no seasoning at all. Dessert was perhaps the weakest point, but it was still quite good. As for the wine list, it was quite good!"

  • "My wife and I looked forward to an overdue (6 years) return to Restaurant Tallent and were rewarded. A crudo appetizer of fluke and potato leek soup were very good. Fluke was seasoned with lemon and soup was robust and creamy. Pork belly with root vegetables and Alasak halibut with creamed cabbage and corned beef were excellent entree choices. The spicy Cajun popcorn was delectable surprise in between appetizers and entree. Very nice Oregon pinot noir was consumed and chocolate and beignets were the exclamation point. Bloomington has many dining options. For me, Restaurant Tallent is at the top of the list!"

  • "Superb dining! Exquisite tastes not to be found in other restaurants, all due to Chef Tallent."

  • "We go to Tallent before IU games and they are great about getting us out in time, even when we are the late ones! Love the staff and the menu is always fresh"

  • "The food is very, very well presented at Talent. And the little pre-dinner treats were interesting. I'm trying to figure out the feta cheese dip served with the fried chips. Everything is so clean and fresh."

  • "Everything, & I mean everything, is top notch at this restaurant. The food makes you cry it is so good- my taste buds were thanking me for days! We had a wonderful experience, the staff is great! David is a suburb talent, pardon the pun- but the name of this restaurant says it all. I think Bloomington is extremely lucky to have Tallent!"

  • "we celebrated our 44th anniversary at this restaurant and it was very relaxing. The food was wonderful and the service was, too. I've already recommended it to someone."

  • "We had read mixed reviews of Restaurant Tallent and decided to go with the positive comments for our special dinner out rather than the negative ones. We were SO disappointed. We were seated back by the kitchen where we heard all the conversations between the servers and the chef. We really didn't care which table needed soup, etc. Some of the food was okay and some wasn't. I left 3/4 of my entree because it tasted bad. Service was horrible. Our waiter was inattentive and other servers had to help out by clearing our dirty plates. I would not recommend this restaurant! The quality and atmosphere are not worth the high price."

  • "Tallent is the best restaurant in Bloomington, and one of the best you will ever visit anywhere. Fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, innovative combinations, and professional service all the way. I've been going for years and it never fails to impress."

  • "The food here is outstanding on most visits. I got the bistecca and it was grissly and the ravoli when it was brought out was cool. The time between each course was extensive this time around as well."

  • "The pasta dishes were delicious but the entrees were nothing special. We expected to get the chef's tasting menu but this isn't offered on the weekends. Odd. Service was attentive; atmosphere just ok. Not sure that it's worth a repeat visit."

  • "We love this restaurant, all of it was outstanding except a bad hostess. She was very cold, unwelcoming, avoided eye contact. Definitely set a bad vibe before we sat down. Everything from that point on was awesome!"

  • "I've been to Tallent many times but this time the portions were larger. We had delicious food and more of it. The larger servings balanced out the price and made the experience well worth it. The value added puts Tallent on my radar more than a special occasion restaurant."

  • "Love Italian month every January. The minestrone soup was the best I've ever eaten……..cold night, hot soup, fresh ingredients, all the flavors of the vegetables had a chance to shine and the homemade pasta was perfect. The ravioli was colorful with taste and looks. A delight on the palate and the plate. The service is helpful but not intrusive. Plenty of time to enjoy each course and have conversation."

  • "Tallent is the best restaurant in Indiana that we frequent at least every other month. The January Italian month menu is fabulous. It was very hard to decide what to order and everything was perfectly prepared. Cannot wait to return."

  • "We chose to do the tasting menu and the wine flight as well. Chef Tallent and staff put together a delicious Crudo with a wonderful New Zealand fish. The second course served were the scallops served with escarole, olives, chilis, and citronette. The third course of Owen's Clam Linguini with fennel sausage and pickled peppers was perfect. A cheese course was served next and was just as wonderful as the previous tastes. The pastry chef prepared a wonderful tiramisu with a base of polenta cake instead of the usual lady fingers. The wine parings perfectly matched each dish. The wait person was very knowledgeable about the wines from Italy that accompanied each dish. A most memorable evening in downtown Bloomington!"

  • "I took my best friend to Tallent to celebrate her birthday and a new chapter in her life. We had a wonderful experience. The server was so helpful with very detailed information and suggestions. The timing was perfect. We were able to savor each course. Every taste and every bite was divine."

  • "It's hard to believe that a small college town can have a restaurant that you'd expect in a big city like NYC or Chicago. Outstanding menu and it changes every season."

  • "My husband and I had a lovely, quiet dinner on a nice winter Monday night. The founder and beef were both prepared amazingly well but the mussels were outstanding. As mussel admirers we order them often when we go out and always when we are in coastal cities. Tallent's mussels in an ale, cream, garlic sauce were the best we have ever eaten. Thank you Restaurant Tallent for an outstanding experience."

  • "We were looking for a local restaurant with high end food and service. We were not disappointed with Restaurant Tallent! The food was amazing and the service was better than most big city spots. We have already recommended it to several people and look forward to visiting again next time we are in Indiana. A "must go" for any foodies who are willing to spend a bit more money for quality over quantity."

  • "We had another amazing meal at Restaurant Tallent last Saturday night with some old friends who are also foodies and had never been there. They were impressed with the quality and taste of the food. We are all pretty adventurous eaters and mostly ordered different things so we could sample each other's food. Every dish was deemed excellent, as usual. Also, as usual the wait staff was excellent. Our waitress couldn't have been better. Not only was she knowledgeable about the food, but she was also made us feel that she enjoyed taking care of us. We have eaten at Restaurant Tallent many times and have always had excellent food and service. We feel very lucky to have such a great restaurant so close to home."

  • "After a memorable and excellent anniversary dinner two years ago, we decided to splurge and return to Restaurant Tallent. This time the experience was completely disappointing. We were seated at a little wobbly table right near the open view kitchen. The constant traffic from wait staff picking up plates and the aroma of beach cleanser totally ruined the ambiance. We waited 15 minutes for a waiter to appear when first seated. My salad which was basically a plate full of bitter greens, soggy croutons and almost no dressing was definitely not worth $10. My duck and rissotto was ok. My husband enjoyed his beef ribs. They were out of our choice for dessert. For a meal that cost over $100 this was a real let down."

  • "Each time we eat at Restaurant Tallent, we think that it's the best meal we've ever had there. While wine prices seem a bit higher than the last time we were there, the wine list is still really interesting and the server very helpful in choosing a bottle. The portions seem larger than before. It's just got to be one of the very best restaurants in the state."

  • "I had a nice meal at Tallent. The food was excellent and not trying too hard to be different or novel. The service was appropriately unintrusive. The prices were fair and the amount of food appropriate for a non-chain restaurant of this caliber."

  • "Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Excellent wine selection. Cuisine is unmatched in Bloomington. Perfect execution, presentation. The walleye and flounder entries were flawless, and the lobster risotto bordered on divine. Simply the finest cuisine in B-town."

  • "Overpriced. Food was not outstanding. Presentation was very well done. Fish dish was about the same quality as Red Lobster but half the price. Plus is that the restaurant does have an unusual, al be it limited, menu featuring items not found in other establishments in town."

  • "This was one of the best meals that I have ever had.We had the fall vegetables appetizer. For the main course we chose the nights special which was Surf and Turf. Dessert was coffee and Butterscotch Panne Cotta. You could taste every component of each course and everything was seasoned perfectly. Cheers to the chef as well as the wonderful staff. Joan B"

  • "Our son attends IU, and Tallent has become our favorite when visiting Bloomington. Always something new to try, service is great and it's quiet enough to have an enjoyable conversation unlike some of the other loud, bustling establishments we have tried."

  • "Food is always delicious. At first some combinations are like ok lets see. And you are always left with an oh my where did the chef get this fabulous idea. Wait staff are always attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Very glad to have helped celebrate Talent's 10 years. Keep up the excellent food and service."

  • "Food was very good! However, the overall experience was slightly lessened due to the slow service. We went on a Monday night and it was not that busy in the first place."

  • "Great compositions for appetizers and main courses, with seasonal offerings and local food. Our server was very knowledgeable and service was good. A bit on the pricey side for Bloomington. Ask for a table on the north section of the restaurant, unless you wish to sit between the bar and kitchen."

  • "My husband and I wanted to treat my niece and her boyfriend to a special evening since they are both IU undergrads living on sorority/frat food. Tallent was a delightful choice. Food was superb and the service excellent. Menu is a bit pricey but we enjoyed the chef's vision of each plate. The Roasted Autumn Squash soup was delicious...rich and nuttier than many others. We had the Indiana Ribeye, the Cobia and the Lamb as entrees...all great down-to-earth ingredients with a beautiful presentations and delicious flavors. We shared two desserts: the apple frangipane and the bread pudding (definitely choose the frangipane). We will return."

  • "My wife and I live in Greenwood. We were looking for a new dinner destination to celebrate our 24th anniversary. A friend suggested Restaurant Tallent, so we made the 45 minute drive to Bloomington. Our waiter, Sean, was very personable and provided excellent service. Our food, appetizer through dessert, was excellent. Sean accomodated my wife's request to sample 2 different wine options prior to ordering a bottle. I would recommend Tallent for a special occasion. Give yourself time to walk the downtown Bloomington square before dinner!"

  • "We had long looked forward to dining at the restaurant based on the many reviews we had read. Based on our experience, the reviews were correct. The service was outstanding with friendly, attentive staff who helped make our evening special without over doing it. The menu was interesting and the food wonderfully prepared and presented. The ambiance was pleasing and we were able to converse easily even though the restaurant was full. We had a great time and would highly recommend Restaurant Talent to anyone."
