Diner Reviews
  • "Even though we had a reservation our table was not set up when we arrived and we were put at a table in the bar. Our food and service were really great, but some of the patrons at other tables were so incredibly loud (and I'm loud!) that it somewhat ruined our dining experience. Didn't seem as memorable as my first visit, but I'll probably give the restaurant another shot."

  • "First time to Patois and loved everything: chic, but rustic and cozy, excellent service and good to savor. We had the gnocchi and duck confit salad appetizers. Both were delicious and the duck confit was falling off the bone and was a generous portion. The Almondibd gulf fish was tender and buttery. My husband said the steak was the best he has had in years. We finished with tre sorbet and ice cream. What a treat! Highly recommended for visitors and we here they do a great brunch also."

  • "Six of us had a wonderful dinner. We all were impressed that the room was quiet enough to have a real conversation.Food was impeccable--loved the duck confit and the gnocchi. knowledgeable, unobtrusive waiter."

  • "Had really high hopes for this restaurant. Went last night and thought the meal was totally average and not worth going back to. It took over 30 minutes for us to get our appetizers and the restaurant was not very crowded. Food was also fine but nothing special considering the amazing food in New Orleans."

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner several nights ago. Great food with unique dishes, served by friendly staff in a superb neighborhood yet fine dining atmosphere. This will be an addition to our regular rotation of places."

  • "Except for the grilled squid. The restaurant has really fallen off. For this neighborhood it's Clancy's from now on."

  • "In New Orleans to celebrate my son's birthday. We took him and a friend here as they both had been here before and enjoyed it. The room was light and sunny, the service was impeccable, and the brunch was perfect. All told, a lovely way to spend Sunday morning. I highly recommend Patois for brunch and if someone is not in the mood for breakfast food, the lunch selections are just as enticing. We will be back the next time we are in New Orleans."

  • "We went on a Friday; reservations are a must in this small house turned restaurant. Had a gluten free meal for me and the waiter was extremely helpful. Many choices were gluten free already and they were willing to work with me on anything else i wanted to eat. We ate the Sweetbreads appetizer perfectly complemented with greens and bacon; I had salmon with pea tendrils and basil, etc. My husband had a spectacular flounder dish. Even the dessert we had, an orange sorbet (housemade) was more delicious than i can describe. Loved this place! Nice bar, great wine list. Unpretentious decor."

  • "Heard a lot about rest. and was not disappointed! $20 cab ride and worth the trek. Great food... unusual, interesting, delicious! And the prettiest waitress in NOLA!!!"

  • "One of the reasons we keep coming back to this neighborhood restaurant is they always seem to serve the fish dishes very hot. I love to eat my food hot and they get it right. They are creative and hands on with their specials, handmade duck sausage was a hit and Everyone loved the traditional seafood gumbo,Nice dark roux."

  • "Appetizers were very good, but the main course (gulf fish) was tasteless, mushy and unattractive. Dessert was okay. The server was sweet but amateur. With so many other places in New Orleans, I would not choose to go back to Patois."

  • "Another outstanding Uptown restaurant the the out-of- towners must take the time to visit. The restaurant has character, great food, and outstanding service."

  • "Shrimp appetizer was great. Salad was very nice. Entrees were ok, but not as good as I would expect for the price. New York strip was a little chewy."

  • "Have had dinner several times and always interesting menu and cordial and helpful wait staff. My guest is terribly allergic to flour and the waiter made double sure all dishes were flour-free (not the same as gluten-free)."

  • "My husband and I booked a table here after reading rave reviews and we were not dissapointed. We started with the crispy duck confit salad for me and fried oyster salad for my husband-both excellent, but if I had to choose it would be the duck hands down. We each had a cup of the cauliflower soup which, while very good, was not my favorite thing of the evening. For the main dish, I had the shrimp and fettucine and my husband had the Mississippi rabbit. The flavor of my the sauce in both dishes was out of this world! For dessert we shared the "Snickers" which I highly recommend! We would love to go back to this neighborhood gem sometime!!"

  • "The food was varied yet well matched and it tasted well just as it was served. The only complaint is sitting by the front door, with the door open, you could easily hear the cars going by; which wasn't that many. Although the conditions might have been worse with the door closed."

  • "Brunch started with a basket of house-made breads and muffins. The muffins have just the slightest inexplicable crunch at the edges, which makes them irresistible. The excellent pork green chili on the starter menu is tantamount to a Mexican-style poutine. It's definitely enough to serve as an entree on its own, but can also be shared to start if you're very hungry. I actually prefer to make a meal of a few shared starters, but the sandwiches are lovely as well. Definitely recommend reservations, as we came in at 10:30 on a weekend morning to a relatively empty room and it was packed by the time we left. Tables are close so sometimes you can't help but overhear someone's first-world problems, but overall a nice dining experience."

  • "The food & wait staff were fantastic!!! But, we went for Sunday Brunch & it was way too noisy with the tables being too close. Whoever sat next to you knew your conversation! Knowing that, I'd still go back though!!!"

  • "Insanely good food tucked away in a charming, quiet little neighborhood. I've never had anything here that didn't taste amazing. You can't go wrong going here, definitely recommend."

  • "Patois is worth the trip from the hustle of downtown. Set in a leafy neighborhood uptown near Audubon Park, it's a neighborhood gem but very much a destination. It was out best meal in Nee Orleans and that included stops at Bayona and Cochon. Great fish, rabbit, cocktails. Very refined and delicious food."

  • "I was looking for a romantic restaurant to take my wife and after reading the reviews I thought I had found it. Maybe it was because for some reason we were sat in the bar area instead of the dining area. I called to inquire about the dress code and was told that it was smart casual. There were plenty of patrons dressed in jeans and several in tennis shoes. After dropping about $200 on dinner and 1 drink I just thought that slacks were more appropriate. The food was good. Our waitress was great and helped with suggestions. She also knew the menu and was able to answer all of our questions. I know it doesn't seem like I thought that this was a good restaurant, but we really enjoyed it. I was just expecting a different atmosphere."

  • "We have been to Patios several times. It is a great small restaurant well worth the time finding a parking space where there are none, and the loud noise at the tables. Special cocktails are good. The pork belly and the lamb pasta appetizers were great. The pheasant was excellent. However when I ordered snapper, a whole fish with head and bones appeared without warning. Come on, why should the diner do all the work. The fish was good after getting thru the tough skin, but not much flavor. We will go back of course, but ask more questions about the specials."

  • "We arrived on time at Patois and were told our table would be available as soon the group of diners finished. Twenty-five minutes later they gave this table to others who, we were told, had been waiting even longer. Now we would have to take whatever table came up next. Another 15 minutes passed; finally we were seated. Our wait person took our drink order. After a long time she returned and realized she had never brought the drinks. The special appetizers arrived, local tomatoes on toasted ciabatta--the bread was burnt black and cold. Through none of this 45 minute wait for our reserved table, forgotten wine order, and burnt appetizer was anything comped as an apology. Horrendous evening with visiting friends from New York."

  • "We have been to Patois several times, and are never disappointed. Service is very good without being intrusive. Food is incredible. Seriously the best gnocchi I've ever put in my mouth. Husband got the duck confit and said it was to die for. They also currently have a roasted veggie sandwich on the menu that is outstanding- amazing depth of flavor and texture that is wonderful even for meat eaters. You will not be disappointed here ever- please don't tell the tourists!"

  • "Patois is always great - their food is excellently prepared and their menu is always an interesting collection of wonderful dishes. The gumbo was truly wonderful, with its deep, dark roux, and chocked full of delicious morsels of fish. The flounder was perfectly prepared, as was the special vegetarian platter. Overall, a great meal."

  • "This was not our first time here, and Restaurant Patois did not disappoint. We dined very early, so the place was very quiet and subdued. It does get noisy later in the evening. The service is very attentive. The food is terrific. This is a great choice near Tulane and Audobon Park."

  • "Food here is just outstanding. Our out-of-town foodie friends were stunned. Service was terrific. The only problem is that it is really set up for parties of 4 or less; we had 5 so we were very limited in seating possibilities. So go here, but with a small party."

  • "don't go on a cold night, this is an old building, there a gaps in the floor freezing air constantly was streaming in from below all night, miserable. food somewhat ok, they kept on bringing out the next course before we had fully finished the prevoius course? my wifes dinner was cold because they had it ready to quickly so it sat around. taste only good."

  • "I love Restaurant Patois. The meals are always delicious and their custom cocktails interesting and inventive. It is nestled in an Uptown residential neighborhood and it always a recommendation for visitors who want to get out of downtown for a lovely dining experience."

  • "Of all the amazing restaurants in New Orleans, Patois is definitely in my top 5, if not my favorite! Every single thing I've had there is ridiculously amazing, from brunch to dinner to their cocktails. I just wish they were open more days so I could enjoy it more often!"

  • "We love Patois - the food is always amazing and you never feel rushed. On my last visit, I had business colleagues from out of town and they were thrilled with everything. They were also really glad NOT to be eating in the French Quarter for a change."

  • "This place is great, and we never had a bad meal there. However, we had one of the worst dining experiences that we've ever had in NOLA. However, our waiter Lorenzo was terrible. Now to be fair, the kitchen had an issue and took probably 20 to 30 minutes longer than normal to get our food. I don't blame him for this. However, after I ordered one drink and we got our bread, the only time we saw him again was to see if I wanted another drink. After I said no, we saw him for two water refills. An offer for more bread would have been greatly appreciated and more water. We needed to ask another waiter for the check as Lorenzo was helping an older (i.e. richer) table."
