Diner Reviews
  • "We found the Oban Inn to be a great dining experience. The food was exceptionally good. Would like to try staying at the Inn some time. Would highly recommend it to others."

  • "Did not meet expectations. Never going back. Tuna dish was overly salty and duck was unacceptably tough."

  • "We decided at the last minute to try this restaurant based on a recommendation. The wonderful food and amazing service will definitely bring us back!"

  • "Highly recommend this wonderful dining room in a special place. Great food, I had the veal, others liked their meals as well. A bit pricey, but worth it!"

  • "Wonderful food, too expensive, service was just adequate."

  • "Every restaurant has a night off. This night only one server was handling an entire room of tables. This server forgot the coffee order. Also forgot to say thanks when the cheque was paid. Oban's food is interesting, but the portions are small for the price. Lots of effort goes into decorating and presenting the food, but folks come to eat."

  • "Listed as a moderate price restaurant $30 range, but ... We split a green salad and ordered an entree and 3 of the 4 of us ordered a glass of wine. We paid about $65 each for a standard meal ... not overly exceptional or exciting. The restaurant for 6:00 timing (between theatre performances) was fairly empty."

  • "Recommend most highly for visitors at the Shaw festival."

  • "We looked forward to our dinner at the Oban, but were disappointed. Both our starters were extremely bland (the bouillabaisse, and the Waldorf salad). The mains (halibut and beef tenderloin) were OK, but nothing special. Service was adequate."

  • "great garden scene, lovely staff, wonderful food, excellent service in an updated vibrant inn that keeps it's quaint appeal from when the Oban Inn was my grandmother's favorite place to take us out for dinner."

  • "Service was fantastic - Sarah was awesome - offered wonderful recommendations, professional yet interactive. Food was unique in a delightful way - great mixings of seasonal offerings"

  • "Oban Inn is a lovely spot for a special getaway. The staff is attentive without being intrusive. The food was outstanding; my wife's halibut was perfect and my salmon was a different but delicious presentation in a light pastry. Service was so relaxed that it almost bordered on being too long between visits to the table and serving the next course. It was unfortunate that the family with young children was seated in the middle of the dining area, where others could not help but be distracted. The parents tried, but fell short of keeping the young ones' behavior appropriate. The wait staff was caught between a rock and a hard place. Otherwise, the ambience was very pleasant. (For overnight guests at Oban, the breakfast trays were marvelous.)"

  • "Wonderful service by extremely friendly staff. Food was delicious and had an excellent time."
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "Disappointing. Waldorf salad had none of the promised walnuts and no hint of stilton (a fancy, shaved "iced stilton" was promised). Bland dressing. Watery broth in bouillabaise. Good, fresh seafood, but no saffron taste (It was yellow!), no veggies or pernod. Bland. Great, full-flavored, rich beef ravioli appetizer with asiago-cream sauce. One for three might be good in baseball, but not restaurants. We left after those courses."

  • "Your SPFs were terrific. Quite unlike any others I've ever had. Light and crispy with a rosemary rub. Yummm. Worth the trip (and calories) just for those fries. Beautiful garden views and well situated in historic Niagara-on-th-Lake for an after-lunch walk. Attentive, friendly staff."

  • "Limited menu. Ordered filet medium rare and it was cooked medium. Service was great."

  • "Kate was our waitress and she was outstanding, pleasant, efficient, knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. When making the reservation, I mentioned that we were celebrating my husband's birthday. I never repeated this to Kate but she had obviously checked the reservation and was was very appropriate with the understated celebration so my husband was not embarrassed. Also, during the torrential rainstorm, she offered to call a taxi to take us back to our B & B when we were finished. (Thank goodness, we didn't need it!). The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxing and Kate was attentive without being intrusive. She made all the difference in the world!"

  • "The service was outstanding. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and very efficient. They made our dining experience very enjoyable. The duck and the coffee are outstanding. Try to get a window seat with a view of the garden. It's very serene and makes for a memorable evening. Have visited the Oban many times when we are in town and will definitely visit again."

  • "The Oban came highly praised..so I was looking forward to a wonderful experience. We were not greeted at the door, in fact we had to look for someone in the dining room to eventually seat us (we did have a reservation). Lunch portions were more than adequate but the only part I enjoyed were the potato fries. My friend and I both found our fish and meat respectively to be over cooked and dry. I had hoped that the hamburger bun might be home baked, but it certainly was not. Other than the view, there was nothing outstanding about our luncheon and considering the prices are on the higher side I expected much more. I doubt that I will return."

  • "The Oban Inn was not crowded when a friend of mine and I had lunch there on a Saturday. The service was friendly and the food was good. It was just right for lunch."

  • "In the past we have experienced problems here with portion size. However, our visit here on May 28 was extremely enjoyable. All our menu choices were delicious and the portions ample. The service was prompt and friendly, and our view of the gardens a bonus."

  • "Had pre-drink at bar and the bar maid was pleasant and engaging. She made an excellent Muddled Old Fashion. Dinner reservation, although made, was not really necessary for this Tuesday evening. Dinner was excellent as was the service. The waitress was attentive, but not overly so. The atmosphere was inviting, yet very quiet, as we were put in a small room, while a larger group was placed in another area."

  • "We have enjoyed dinner at the Oban for many years. At dinner in May 2014 we experienced significant changes from previous meals - smaller portions, higher prices, meat not cooked to order and cold food. Very disappointing given their past offerings."

  • "First I have to say I am on a restricted diet. They bent over backwards to meet my needs but also made it taste delicious. The service was outstanding and my dates dinner was outstanding. The next day we had the complimentary continental breakfast and I have never experienced a breakfast like that. Everything was fresh and the service was top notch. "

  • "the food was very good and interesting mix of flavours. The service however was very slow. Way too much time in between courses for sure-and there were only three tables so not busy. But the server was lovely"

  • "Very nice restaurant atmosphere. Food was good. Only complaint is that the portion size is very small, especially for the prices."

  • "All of the guests in our party had a very enjoyable evening. Appetizers, drinks, dinner, dessert were all great. Service by our waitress, Dawn, was superb."

  • "Excellent attentive service in a sunny solarium. My only complaint: some menu items were not available and the fish served with frites was farmed salmon--not the fish advertised."

  • "A fantastic dinner with close friends here in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Oban has been a long time favorite spot here in town, and now with its new dining room it is now one of the best restaurants in town. The dining room has a nice relaxed astrosphere and add excellent and attentive service you have a winner. It is across the street from the Golf Course so you get a bit of a view of the lake even if very limited."

  • "We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and decided to try this restaurant again. It has been many years since we were last here. The food and service was great and we enjoyed the experience."

  • "Four of us dined during Fabulicious. Despite a bad experience there two years ago, we decided to give it a second chance. Although the service was good, the food was mediocre. Three of us found our first courses to be bland. I sent my entree back as the fish was overcooked and rubbery. The other three entrees were described as flavourless. The desserts that boasted coconut in their descriptions had no taste of coconut, although the desserts were tasty in themselves. We told our wait person of our dismay with the food after both the first course and entrees. The response was “I will let the chef know”. At the end of the meal, not a word of ‘sorry’ or a complimentary glass of wine in recognition of our poor food experience."

  • "If your looking for a traditional Christmas dinner and there is just the two of you, you must try the Oban Inn in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Elegant, romantic and the meal was fantastic with a staff that were happy to serve you. Stayed for the night and enjoyed a pleasant breakfast the next morning. Will definitely go back again,"

  • "Good but a bit pricey. Service was friendly and accommodating."

  • "The service was below par, soup was tasteless, French fries were drenched with oil, not what we accepted for a highly rated place. Total disappointment."
    Dined on 11/9/2013
  • "Restaurant was lovely, garden view beautiful, service thoughtful, main course (lamb) disappointing. Overall very good and I would return and recommend. Go early for good service."

  • "We enjoyed our meal at The Oban Inn. It was our Thanksgiving dinner as we spent the holiday week-end in the Niagara region. Our server was friendly and efficient and we had the special 3 course holiday menu. The food was tasty and well prepared. The only negative was our daughter very much wanted mashed potatoes with her roast turkey but they were not available."
