A word from Restaurant Lorena's
Lorena's is pleased to announce that we will now be serving dinner daily!

In June of 2005 Humberto and Lorena opened the doors to Lorena's in the heart of Maplewood Village.
As an alumnus of the C.I.A. and a graduate from New Jersey's top kitchens, Chef Campos will be offering a menu deeply rooted in French technique and inspired by the seasons of the Garden State.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Understated sedate small gem serving unusual creations that always please. For special occasions. The high cost is offset by BYO. I have never had a better dinner."

  • "A diamond hidden behind the doors. A meal with surprise after surprise with mouth watering sauces, food combinations that you do not see everyday. The sashimi fluke and salmon tartar were just the opening act. We shared our duck and halibut dishes and I recommend sharing to broaden the experience.. The staff was attentive but not an annoyance. Make your reservations early, small restaurant ,but cozy."

  • "The restaurant is small but mighty. Excellent food and attentive staff. Would go back again. Since it is small getting the exact day and time can be a challenge- especially the weekends... but it is worth it."

  • "My wife is a gourmet cook and when she request Lorena's for her birthday dinner, you know your in for a foodie's treat. As usual, the evening was perfect...from beginning to end. The staff serves-up perfect service with just the right amount of attention. We always look forward to going to Lorena's for a dinning experience"

  • "The ambiance is simple but very nice. The restaurant is very tiny so I did not feel it was noisy. The food choices while limited are excellent. Our party of 4 had three different dishes and all were excellent. The taste and presentation exceeded expectations. Appetizers and desserts were delicious. Service was there when you wanted and not hanging over you. We would definitely return."

  • "We dine at Lorena's about once every two months. Consistently chef Humberto excels at creating wonderful dishes. This time we had the crab crepe for appetizer. A heavenly combination of crab and wild mushrooms in a creamy sauce with hints of herbs wrapped in a thin crepe. This is my favorite dish in the world! The entrees were equally delicious. I had duck on a bed of earthy lentils with a sauce of small berries from the forest. A fantastic flavor profile with many layers that perfectly complemented each other. My husband had the Mahi Mahi which was perfectly cooked. For desert we thoroughly enjoyed the new coffee creme brulee. Thank you Humberto and the kind staff Glenn and Adrian for another unforgettable evening."

  • "I had lunch at Le Bernardin (***) the day before and Lorena's stacks up well given the price (1/2) and location (two blocks away from home)."

  • "This is a small place but intimate. The food was delightful and I will definitely return. They even gave me a slice of bread pudding with a candle on it when they found out it was my birthday. The amuse-bouche was lobster bisque in a shot glass and it was so good, I wish we could have gotten a bowl. The crap crepe w/mushroom was divine. For an entree, my husband had the mahi-mahi and I had the short rib medallions; both were excellent. The waiters were attentive and informative. We have already recommended the restaurant to two other couples."

  • "An attractive if limited menu. Everything was very well prepared and presented Beautifully. I would definitely return for a special occasion"

  • "This restaurant has old fashioned great service with amazing food. They began with an amuse bouche of a lobster bisque, which was delicious and a great way to start, then we continued with a crabmeat crepe with wild mushrooms which was excellent. Then we had a mahi-mahi main course which was very good and some lamb, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. For desert, they had a complementary small treat of exotic fruit juice, which was also perfect. This was followed with caramel and peanut butter bread pudding, which was just right to end a delicious meal. As you can surmise from above, I really loved this meal. However, it is not the sort of place to bring your kids. It is more the kind of place to bring your parents. Also, BYOB."

  • "Lorena's never disappoints. The food and service are always, always top notch. It's such a treat to dine there."

  • "Lorena's is consistently excellent. The seasonally inspired menu is impeccable, each dish is exquisite, and the service is beyond. We love that we can "bring our own", and that there is no corking fee. Dinner for 4 is expensive, but worth every penny for that special occasion. Excellent all around."

  • "This is a really special find. It has truly French food at its finest. The sauces and techniques are top drawer. I have never had a dish there that is not surprisingly delicious. The services is impeccable. You may BYOWine. It is very small and delightfully intimate. The choice of soft music is relaxing and at the perfect volume. I cannot say enough about this spot. We have eaten at some top French restaurants and I would put this above all of them."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "The beef medalions were unbelievably tender; the lamb was less good but still excellent. The amuse bouches were a bit odd but maybe I just don't enjoy drinking from the tiny cups."

  • "We absolutely love Lorena's for delicious food and it's outstanding service. It is a fantastic spot for a special occasion or even a nice top class dinner with your partner or friends. The food is incredible, everything on your plate will be so delicious that will make you want to lick the plate:) And the service makes the whole experience even more special as it is just perfect, friendly and sophisticated. It is the BYOB restaurant so make sure you bring your wine with you. We love it and think it's even better than many 5stars NYC restaurants we've tried. Highly recommended! Make sure you book a table in advance as it is always full and the place is small and cosy."

  • "Another magnificent meal. I've run out of superlatives. If there is a better BYO I want to hear about it. Chef Sanchez on duty that night!!!"

  • "One of the top 3 restaurants in NJ. The food is amazing and service is just as good! Bring your best bottle of wine and live like royalty. Humbetto is one of the best chefs in the state!!! Bring them all on!"

  • "As usual, this dinner was to rave about, exquisite flavors throughout. The service is very good but too stuffy for our taste, obsequious. But one cannot help but have a fabulous dinner here."
    Dined on 2/25/2014
  • "I took my wife for an anniversary dinner to this BYO gem of a restaurant. The atmosphere was very cosy, and intimate (only 9 tables) and everything that we ate was really delicious. We had the Tuna Tartare (lovely) & Mushrooom/Crab crepe (amazing) for appetizers and had Duck (best duck either of us have ever had) & Lamb Chops (really fantastic) for entrees. Even the amuse bouches were awesome (mushroom soup shot and one I can't recall that came before desert)... This is a place whose price dictates that it will be reserved for special occasions, but I'd go back in a heartbeat. The fact that it is a BYO also helps to offset the price a bit because you obviously save on the drinks when you bring them from home..."

  • "Lorena's is a quality, dress-up dining experience. The food is exceptional and the staff are very attentive. They do not have a liquor license, but there is a wine store conveniently located across the street. They recommend a jacket for gentleman diners. They are now open 7 nights a week, plus Sunday brunch."

  • "The food was terrific! She had the Tuna tartare to start; I had the Nauti Pilgrim oysters -some of the best I've ever had. Her entre -Duck Breast; me Mahi -we're food sharers, but were hard pressed to share -it was soooo good. Sides of kale and fingerling potatoes -excellent. Shared an apple tarte for dessert -scrumptious. Service was attentive. but not overbearing and very polite. When they called to confirm our reswervation were were told it was BYOB a helpful reminder- i actually didn't forget the wine this time. We were also told that jackets were recommended for men. On a Monday -with all this snow around -very few people dressed up. Not a cheap dinner -NYC prices -not Maplewood, but definitedly worth every penny."

  • "Service was efficient, the staff always available to answer questions and/or make suggestions. Everyone loved the crepe appetizer. Entrees were delicious, although the venison was a little on the salty side. We would certainly return and try other dishes."

  • "we didnt have the special valentines day dinner menu but the regular menu was quite tasty. alot of fantastic flavors in every bite of food. highly reccomened. had short rib, mahi mahi, pea soup, roasted beets, raw oysters, cheese plate and peanut butter chocolate bread pudding for dessert. no negative comments. cost me $200 and we brought our own wine. great special occasion place"

  • "What to say, probably one of the best in NJ, service is always impecable and food is plain fantastic. On top of that it's BYO, so you can afford to bring a good bottle along and still get away with a meal a fraction of the cost of a similar restaurant in NY.."

  • "Interesting menu, beautifully prepared food. The venison was tender and delicious. We have been to this restaurant several times over the past few years. It never disappoints."

  • "I waited a long time to come to this great restaurant and boy did it pay off. From the moment you arrive you are treated like you are a regular. Glen was our server and how professional he was. Very attentive to everything. I had told them ahead of time that it was my partners birthday and the Chef / owner made sure to pick out of the kitchen to see that everything was running very nice. The food was delightful. First time my friend was having Venison o my God, just perfect in everyway. The salmon Tartar, the beet salad what a presentation, pork chop well I don't know what else to say.......But to thank everyone for a magnificent evening , we will go back ........."

  • "Lorena's is a lovely French restaurant tucked in the middle of the lovely town of Maplewood, NJ.There are only 9 tables, so the setting is very intimate. We had a difficult time selecting our food orders as everything on the menu is delicious. My husband had the Double Pork Chop which was outstanding. I had a Mahi-Mahi that was accompanied with a sublime celery root reduction. The dinner ended with an ethereal warm chocolate moulten cake with home made vanilla ice cream. Lorena's is a BYO, so we brought a lovely Sancerre white wine. From start to finish, Lorena's is 5 stars."
