We've been going to Lorena's for several years, and the place never disappoints. I wish this site allowed more characters, because I'd write a more complete (and totally complimentary) review. Guess I'll do that over on YELP.

We visited Lorena's for the second time this weekend and the food was just as good this time. If you are looking for top quality food and ingredients that can normally only be found in large cities, this restaurant is the right place. The flavors truly come out in every dish and everything is cooked to perfection. Portions are generous but pricey so you have to be willing to pay for excellent food. It is a byob place so the final bill is not so bad. So happy to have found a restaurant of this quality only one town over! We will be back again and again.

Expensive restaurants have a way of not living up to the hype, but that was not at all the case with our visit to Lorena's. The food was excellent. The service was just right. Everything melted in our mouths. Lots of special touches, such as, we told the server we would split our appetizers, and they came out from the kitchen already divided and beautifully presented. The salmon tartare was to die for. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, and we left feeling like we'd chosen the perfect spot. I'm sure it will become a go-to for special occasions from now on.

We had a lovely dinner in celebration of my husband's birthday. It's such a lovely spot, I love to be able to splurge on wine that we bring ourselves (that might be unaffordable with restaurant mark up), I love the food and the service is wonderful. Standout dishes were the duo of beef (the short rib was to die for), the pasta appetizer and the salmon appetizer. I liked my skate dish although it definitely needed a little more seasoning. I mentioned this to our waiter (at his prompting) at the end of the meal. I didn't even notice until later that they removed the dish from the bill. It wasn't necessary (the dish was still good) but certainly appreciated. That's great service.

This is my 4th time back.....and if I could.....100 times more. The food is awesome.....every bite.....and that is why we go out to eat. Crab crepes are heaven on earth. I had the duck, which just may have been the best I ever had. Love the size. They don't cram you in there and the service is impeccable! The staff is attentive and not over bearing. This is what every restaurant should strive to be. BTW.....I had desert.....I'm not a chocolate or desert guy......let's just say I ate more than normal! You continue to impress and I hope to repeat with friends more often. My first review gave you 5 stars even though I complained about the bread......every time after...no complaints and you keep getting better and better!

Food was excellent, with the exception of my wife's halibut being very undercooked (raw in the middle). After sending it back they fixed it to perfect temperature and it was delicious. Appetizers (tuna tartar and crab crepe) were both very good. My beef duo (tenderloin and braised short rib) entree was exceptional, especially the tenderloin. Our desserts (chocolate and carrot cakes) were both very good too. Service was attentive and classy. The restaurant interior is cozy but somewhat dated. The quality is there, but based on our experience with other high-end dining, prices are $5-$10 above what they should be.

This is a Manhattan quality restaurant in suburban Maplewood. The food is simply fantastic but with the added bonus that the restaurant is BYO. Yes I realize it's not cheap, but this is an exceptional place coupled with a level of service not normally witnessed in the burbs. If you have a special occasion to celebrate or just feel like treating yourself, you'd be foolish not to try Lorena's. But bear in mind the team wants you to enjoy a comfortable leisurely evening, so please don't come here in a rush. They hold onto a sadly lacking philosophy elsewhere that dinner of this quality is supposed to be enjoyed and not bolted down. So, go on and splurge, you won't regret it. PS Don't forget the wine and make it a good one!

Lorena's has remained a consistent provider of truly excellent cuisine, operating at a level above most other restaurants are able to achieve. The only improvement they could make is with the decor, it is fine but could stand for a bit of refreshing. Definitely on the NJ top 5 for cuisine.

We couldn't have had a lovelier time at Lorena's. From the minute we walked through the door, the staff was very professional and attentive. The food was fresh, beautifully prepared, and oh so delicious. Restaurant Lorena is a top notch restaurant. It is very expensive, but for special occasions this is the place to go. It is a BYOB which helps to keep the cost down a bit.

Somehow I always forget to go to this restaurant. I have been here twice in the last month. The food is always superb and the service is a match. Craig, in particular, is a gem. You can tell he loves his job. His descriptions of the food are "almost" as good as the actual dish! Since this is a BYO it is mare enjoyable as you can pick some favorites from the cellar to compliment the wonderful cuisine.

Amazing experience! The food was great! But what stood out, was the superb service. The service was truly impeccable. A place where the staff understood the meaning of hospitality and professionalism. They attended to every guest's needs with natural ease. Initially, what caught my eye was the very crisp table settings, where the attention to details was obvious. I had the steak Tartare as my appetizer, the Cod as my main course, and the trio of home made ice cream, they were all delicious, and very nicely presented. I like when the chef sends an "Amuse Bouche" here in addition to it, we were sent a "Ferme la Bouche" ( I just made this up, it means close your mouth) My compliments to the Chef and to the front of the house personnel.

This Maplewood restaurant was a great find for my wife and I. We went on our anniversary and were not disappointed with either the food or the service. However, the service at time seemed a little "over the top" from at least one of our waiters. For example, the place is a BYOB and I had purchased a fine wine for the occasion and the waiter asked if I wanted to taste it before he poured my bottle. This is usually done when the bottle is purchased from the restaurant not at a BYO. But this is a minor issue, the place was great.

This was our first visit but won't be our last. It is a quaint, small room on a lovely street in Maplewood village. The food was excellent. I had salmon tartare to start and it was quite possibly the best I've ever had. This was followed by a honey glazed duck which was artfully presented, cooked perfectly medium rare and delicious. The summer menu was dominated by fish dishes so my wife opted for a main of rare cooked Tuna which she enjoyed completely. She started with a special of steak tartare, large portion, that I tried and also liked. My only two criticisms were that my wife's water glass was not refilled promptly, and the pricing is very high, though I understood that before going. It is a BYOB which may explain the high food prices.

Great to have this star right in our own neighborhood. It's deserving of the the best compliments for food and staff. A 9 table restaurant, getting a reservation is the challenge! The menu has been thoughtfully considered for the season at hand, as the starters match Mickey with the mains. And don't forget the handmade, home made ice cream!

This tiny room in the village of Maplewood is the site of some of the best French food we've had in a while. Expensive and a bit sedate but is that bad? On the other hand, it's a BYO! Portions are on the small side but the food is exquisitely rich and you will leave sated. Great for a romantic, quiet dinner.

We love Lorena's and go there for special occasions. This time, however, some of the food wasn't quite up to their usual very high standards. Open Table rated Lorena's as one of the top 10 restaurants in the Tri State Area, so I had to try it out since it wasn't far from where I lived. It lived up to it's rating. We started with Salmon Tar Tar and Steak Tar Tar - both dishes melt in your mouth. Then we had the Lobster Crepe - I would go back for this alone and order double this portion! I had the Skate for dinner and my husband had the short ribs - both delicious. Service was spot on! Would highly recommend and will go back. Pricy, but you get what you paid for! Guys are suppose to wear jackets and girls dressed up, but when we got there, not all guys had a jacket and one girl had sneakers, but other than that - great find!

We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. Lorena's is by no means the most expensive of the local restaurants and the BYOB offers an opportunity to save on wine. And you will want to bring wine to go with the food. We have come as the full family (and they ran out to get pasta to serve my daughter because there wasn't anything on the menu for her very limited palate) and as just a couple. This last time was as the latter and it was a perfect date night location. The menu does change so I won't recommend any specific meal choices, but I will say that you will never go wrong ordering their duck, however it is prepared. Outstanding service, with a knowledgeable waitstaff and it feels like each table has its own waiter.
