Diner Reviews
  • "If you love dining at its old fashioned best, this is your restaurant! My husband and I enjoyed a quiet, relaxing evening with our delicious and generously cut beef cooked table side after our white jacketed waiter prepared our Caesar salad also at our table. He was marvelous at suggesting a great wine too. Dessert was heavenly and such a nice respite from a long day of travel. So glad to see that such dining opportunities still exist."

  • "Great location especially if you're staying at the Chateau. Steak overcooked even when advised specifically what colour centre will be. Service ok. Private room (the one without a window) was a little stuffy."

  • "This was our one "splurge" dinner on our recent trip to Quebec and Le Continental did not disappoint! Classic tableside flambe' dishes prepared by waiters in white jackets. We chose the Caesar salad and chateaubriand for two, and of course crepes for dessert. All were cooked to perfection. Pricey but worth it. This is a perfect spot for a romantic or special occasion dinner."

  • "Went for a late lunch. The ambience was most pleasant with background jazz piano recording. Al. The wait staff whether serving me or others were very pleasant, giving prompt but not intrusive service. The food was excellent, good visual presentation and appropriate portions. I will definitely return on my next visit to Quebec City."

  • "Totally over cooked our steak (we asked for medium and it came WELL done). The fish had no seasoning. Worst expensive dinner we've ever had. Totally overrated."

  • "The server prepare the food right next to us. We ordered a duck for two. It was a great experience. Highly recommended."

  • "My wife and I are from Washington, DC. We celebrated our forty-fifth wedding anniversary in Old Quebec. We had dinner at Le Continental, and it did not dissappoint. The ambience, the service, the wine list, and the food were all superior. In fact, every facet of our experience exceeded our expectations. My wife had the Lobster Newburg, prepared table side. I had the Steamed Lobster. After a fantastic desert, we both had the Brazilan coffee, again prepared table side. The preparations alone are worth a visit to this wonderful restaurant."

  • "My wife and I recently enjoyed an excellent dinner at this restaurant while on a getaway in Old Quebec. Conveniently located right across the street from the Chateau Frontenac it was an easy walk over after a cocktail overlooking the river. An exceptional wine list and entertaining and extremely professional table-side service were a fitting compliment to the beautiful food. I enjoyed a great steak while my wife had the veal with fois gras. Both meals were fantastic. Expect to pay what is a healthy but fair price for your food and know that you will not be disappointed that you did as it is worth it."

  • "Just spent Father's day at Le Continental. We ordered a number of flambed dishes. It was definitely food preparation that was very entertaining. All the dishes we ordered were fantastic. The person who prepared our dishes had over 37 years of experience so needless to say everything went flawlessly."

  • "My husband and I were visiting Quebec to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Having been very disappointed with our evening in the restaurant at The Frontenac on our actual anniversary the night before, we were hoping for something more memorable, and we weren't disappointed. The food was fabulous and fun (mostly cooked table side) and the waiters were very charming. We finished with cherries flambé and great coffee. Definitely worth a return trip to Quebec."

  • "It is such a treat to still find a restaurant where you can "dress elegantly" and enjoy a romantic dinner! Old World charm. Unbelievable flaming entrees at table side. Super waiter. Thanks Alberto!"

  • "Wanted to do Old Quebec and have a 'retro' French meal, with tableside service and white jackets, the whole works. Felt as though we got the bum's rush-in and out in less than 80 minutes, and a bill for $240 to boot. That's for two people, with tip. My onion soup is better than this was; the onions weren't caramelized properly. Ceasar salad for two was tasty, but a bit over-dressed. The lettuce was a little wilted, as it sat on the cart the whole time we were eating our soup. The chateaubriand was undercooked-ordered med rare, got very rare. Wasn't asked if the doneness was to our liking--he sliced it and served it. Mousse chocolat was okay. We split one order. All in all, we had wished (hoped) for much more for the money."

  • "Everyone we talked to in Quebec had only good things to say when we mentioned we were dinning at Le Continental and our experience confirmed their endorsement. We arrived early and were seated upon arrival. They have a 3 course special which was nice... the food was spectacular and the surroundings quite nice. Would definitely recommend... Great location as well."

  • "Nous avons été déçus de notre souper de vendredi dernier au Continental, très belle atmosphère, mais le repas n'était pas à la hauteur de ce que le Continental nous a habitués au fil des ans. "

  • "The menu was extensive and varied. Plenty to choose from: meat dishes, fish and seafood. The restaurant has a selection of entrees that are prepared table side. I did pick one and was not disappointed. Our waiter engaged in conversation with us only if we spoke with him or asked him questions. It was not awkward having him there if we were just talking among ourselves. He was quite professional. The decor was very tasteful and obviously a top end restaurant. Great wine selection and don't hesitate to ask for info on the wines - they assist without making you feel like you don't know wines. With top notch service and excellent food it's an excellent choice."

  • "I reserved for my husbands birthday dinner and WOW! It is not the first time that we dine there but each and every time it is an experience and what a "spectacle" for the "flambées". The service is impeccable and the manager comes and ask you if everything is OK. He asked me if it was for an occasion, which I said yes and specified what, he made sure that my husband gets a piece of cake with a candle on it and there was no singing (which was greatly appreciated) but was very discrete. I recommend this restaurant to everyone at least once."

  • "This was our third time eating at La Continental and it is always a treat. The food is fantastic and the staff is very attentive and helpful without being overbearing. Our waiter (Bruno) was particularly engaging in helping with selections and while preparing the tableside dinners. Truly this is a restaurant which is in the classic old French style and is a must do while in Quebec City."

  • "I had one of the best meals of my life at Le Continental. The food was incredible and the service was delightful. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. As many other diners suggested, order at least one flambe dish. They are delicious and it's quite spectacular to watch."

  • "We walked over to this gem from our stay at the Chateau Frontenac. It was a great choice. We had the Caesar salad for two made table-side. The flavor and quantity of this salad were to die for. Honestly it was enough for an entire meal. We also ordered the Duck that was flambe table-side. The experience of the food being made in front of you along with the high quality and great service made this meal one that I will never forget."

  • "My wife and I had dinner here on the last night of our QC long weekend. We decided to go out with a bang and save the best for last. It did not disappoint. The ambience was classy, with waiters in white jackets - who did the majority of the cooking tableside. You don't see much of that anymore. Our waiter was great, as were the other staff. The chateaubriand for two was delicious (although they served it with an onion gravy instead of béarnaise sauce). It was fairly expensive ($175 for the meal with a glass each of wine) but I didn't mind spending the money. Only complaint was the temperature of the vegetables. They were served on the plate while the meat finished cooking and got cold. They could have adjusted the timing a bit."

  • "Le Continental is known for its table side, open flame cooking. Unfortunately, during our service our wait staff was changed three different times by the maitre'd to serve other customers who had "requested" them! The result of this unprofessional approach was that I had to ask passing by waiters three times to refill my wine glass and most discouraging of all, our Crepe Suzette for two burned at the table and had to be taken away due to the lack of a coherent wait staff plan! In sum, if you know the maitre'd you will be well served ~ if you don't know him, BEWARE! This dining experience will most likely be unpleasant with inexcusable lapses in service! Overall, the service was unacceptable and the overall dining experience was poor!"
