  • "We honeymooned in the city of Quebec decades ago. We were young and did not consider ourselves gourmet. We were so impressed by the French cuisine! We wondered if we would be so impressed at this point in our lives, after world travel, years of cooking and dining in fine restaurants. We are happy to report that the traditional Continental cuisine at Restaurant Le Continental is still world class! Service is friendly but not intrusive. The restaurant is located a few steps form the Chateau Frontenac and the Dufferin Terrace in Old Quebec. Prices were reasonable for the dishes we chose. The wine list is not hideously marked up but contains some nice selections for pairing."

  • "Overpriced with rude and rushed service. Food and wine were unimpressive and table side service seemed to made the already busy weekend staff more stressed and less attentive. We almost left after being seated in a noisy area near the server station and our first waiter who barely acknowledged us rudely was in a hurry to get our order, but the manager was apologetic offered us another quieter table and as it was late and we were tired, we agreed. Our second server was more professional so Kudos for trying but there are so many great restaurants in QC I would avoid the majority on St. Louis which just seem to be tourist traps. Should have known when our hotel concierge didn't even know the restaurant when we were confirming directions."

  • "The menu is excellent, and t he servers are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. My wife had a table-side flamed filet mignon she is still talking about four days later. I had sweetbreads that I loved, but frankly I ordered them because I haven't been anywhere in perhaps 15 years with sweetbreads on the menu, so I can only rate them against a vague memory. But, I loved them."

  • "We were visiting Quebec on a vacation and were excited to try Le Continental after all the wonderful reviews. However, it was a very underwhelming experience. My sister-in-law and I are "foodies" and we tried dishes from the prix fixe to try an assortment. The appetizer was good, but the other dishes were bland and nothing unique. I had the pork, and while I had an excellent cut of meat, there was just no flavor to it. I ordered a house white wine and that was also disappointing. It was cool to see the waiters cook table side for other guests, but without that experience, it was simply an expensive disappointment. The other downer was that our head waiter was sarcastic, and most of his "jokes" didn't really go over well with us."

Having salad greens and beef tenderloin prepared at the table by the superbly trained wait staff, observing ingredients and cooking method first-hand was a treat to savor as well as the meal itself. Words begin to fail to truly describe just how great this was, and mom, wife and I will never forget it. Le Continental has raised the bar to a new height."

  • "The ambiance and décor is beautiful. Many of the menu selections are prepared and cooked at your table. I was worried that our very young (possibly lacking experience) waiter might be overcooking my husband's filet mignon and upon serving it, I was right. Thank God it's a tender piece of meat. My seafood platter sounded like heaven, but had a drab and colorless presentation. The dish was lukewarm, the lobster tail was rubbery (overcooked or previously frozen)? and I found a hair wrapped around my last shrimp. Too late, the meal was already eaten, so the waiter offered me a free cocktail, but at that point, I just wanted to leave."

  • "My husband and I were visiting from Toronto and went to Le Continental for our 1st wedding anniversary. This was our first Flambé experience. Our server/cook was very friendly and explained to us the whole cooking process. The service was amazing, and the staff looked like they enjoy their job. My husband got Flambé peppercorn sirloin and I got the Flambé shrimps with Whisky. I LOVED my dish, and my husband enjoyed his steak. We had booked the restaurant through opentable, and under the comments I had mentioned we were celebrating our first anniversary. The restaurant was so attentive that they surprised us with a piece of cake and candle, which was totally unexpected. We had a great time, and we would go back in a heart beat."

  • "Early 5:45 pm reservation provided good service & table side prep as advertised. HOWEVER, after 2 hours of dining, my wife & I were ignored for over 25 minutes. Lookout for when they become busy!! Service disappears! We were getting ready to order dessert & coffee & Sauternes, but simply chose for our "check please". Too bad that our high expectations accompanied with high prices crashed & burned. Ordered premium Bordeaux off high-priced wine list in advance so that they could decant. They DID NOT decant in advance like I asked. Highlights: Table prepared Caesar for two was excellent. Deer & filet mignon prepared nicely. Foie Gras was just Ok - have had much better in other restaurants. This was the first AND LAST TIME we will eat here."

My husband and I enjoyed a quiet, relaxing evening with our delicious and generously cut beef cooked table side after our white jacketed waiter prepared our Caesar salad also at our table. He was marvelous at suggesting a great wine too. Dessert was heavenly and such a nice respite from a long day of travel. So glad to see that such dining opportunities still exist."

  • "This was our one "splurge" dinner on our recent trip to Quebec and Le Continental did not disappoint! Classic tableside flambe' dishes prepared by waiters in white jackets. We chose the Caesar salad and chateaubriand for two, and of course crepes for dessert. All were cooked to perfection. Pricey but worth it. This is a perfect spot for a romantic or special occasion dinner."

  • "Ordered onion soup and veal tenderloin for my dinner. The moment I was served the soup, I felt it looked wrong. As far as I understand, the color of onion soup is supposed to be dark brown. But it looked like the color of regular chicken/beef stock.They seemed used toast instead of french baguette in the soup. Plus I didn't taste any red wine in the soup. What was more ridiculous is that when I asked my server about my veal tenderloin which tasted very dry to me (I ordered medium and it seemed like medium-well), he replied that "YES. This is medium. Do you want to ADD MORE SAUCES if you feel this is dry?? I am pretty sure this is not a right way to handle a matter like this."

  • "I never really give bad reviews on here, but this one I absolutely had to. First off, the restaurant is way overpriced for what it is. I dined with my girlfriend and we were appalled by the food and service. We go to some high-end restaurants and this place was no comparison. I ordered fish and not only was it burnt, but it was dry and I said something to the waiter and he basically told me that's the way it is cooked (even after he brought it to the back). I'm sorry if I'm paying all that money, then at least I'm going to want to enjoy it. You can't pay me enough money to ever return here or recommend it to anyone. In fact, the hotel also recommended it and when I said how disgusted I was, another family there cancelled their reservation"

  • "My wife and I recently enjoyed an excellent dinner at this restaurant while on a getaway in Old Quebec. Conveniently located right across the street from the Chateau Frontenac it was an easy walk over after a cocktail overlooking the river. An exceptional wine list and entertaining and extremely professional table-side service were a fitting compliment to the beautiful food. I enjoyed a great steak while my wife had the veal with fois gras. Both meals were fantastic. Expect to pay what is a healthy but fair price for your food and know that you will not be disappointed that you did as it is worth it."

  • "The staff is very friendly and accommodating. After our flight into Quebec City was delayed 3 times, we finally arrived very late, and we already had a late reservation at the restaurant (10pm). We called when we arrived at the airport shortly before 10 to see if they would still take us, which they did with no problem at all and encouraged us to still come. They appreciated we had flown in from The Bahamas and wanted to have our first meal there. Service was excellent, and food lived up to the hype - especially the table-side flambé. It was a beautiful experience, tasty and delicious. Their wine selection is also superb. We highly recommend the restaurant for the entire experience."

  • "My wife and I are from Washington, DC. We celebrated our forty-fifth wedding anniversary in Old Quebec. We had dinner at Le Continental, and it did not dissappoint. The ambience, the service, the wine list, and the food were all superior. In fact, every facet of our experience exceeded our expectations. My wife had the Lobster Newburg, prepared table side. I had the Steamed Lobster. After a fantastic desert, we both had the Brazilan coffee, again prepared table side. The preparations alone are worth a visit to this wonderful restaurant."

Having been very disappointed with our evening in the restaurant at The Frontenac on our actual anniversary the night before, we were hoping for something more memorable, and we weren't disappointed. The food was fabulous and fun (mostly cooked table side) and the waiters were very charming. We finished with cherries flambé and great coffee. Definitely worth a return trip to Quebec."

  • "Wanted to do Old Quebec and have a 'retro' French meal, with tableside service and white jackets, the whole works. Felt as though we got the bum's rush-in and out in less than 80 minutes, and a bill for $240 to boot. That's for two people, with tip. My onion soup is better than this was; the onions weren't caramelized properly. Ceasar salad for two was tasty, but a bit over-dressed. The lettuce was a little wilted, as it sat on the cart the whole time we were eating our soup. The chateaubriand was undercooked-ordered med rare, got very rare. Wasn't asked if the doneness was to our liking--he sliced it and served it. Mousse chocolat was okay. We split one order. All in all, we had wished (hoped) for much more for the money."

We arrived early and were seated upon arrival. They have a 3 course special which was nice... the food was spectacular and the surroundings quite nice. Would definitely recommend...
