Diner Reviews
  • "Not sure Kelly was cooking on July 5. Maybe he also left town for the holiday. Did not think the items ordered by my wife and I were up to the usual quality of Restaurant Iris. This was also the first time we had been back since Second Line opened. I hope that serving the masses there has not reduced the quality of Restaurant Iris."

  • "A group of 8 of us went to Iris last week on the 4th of July. They were great the week leading up to the reservation, while I changed the number once, the time once, and then had to call the night of to make sure it was okay to come late due to some stragglers from the group. Olivia took care of everything during all of that with grace. Due to our size and the availability, they sat us in a private room in the back. Even the way the chairs were laid out with 2 to a side on the table was great. Our server, Rickie, was professional while showing some personality. It would be worth going back just for the service she provided. The food was fantastic as well. We ended up shutting the place down, as we were enjoying ourselves too much."

  • "We ordered the 3 course weekend dinner with wine pairings. The food was excellent and the wine pairings were fantastic. The service was by far the best we have ever experienced. They were very attentive and truly cared about making it a enjoyable evening for us. I wish we lived in Memphis so we could go frequently!"

  • "After an exceptional anniversary dinner last year, we booked Iris for our anniversary dinner again this year. The service was inadequate (we had to continue asking for more water and bread); and we were very disappointed with the food. I ordered the Surf and Turf, with the steak medium well. It came out very well done. There was no hint of pink and the meat was cooked to the point of toughness. Also, the fried oysters were cold and the sauce was barely present."

  • "Iris never disappoints. Service always the best. Nice Fourth of July treat!!"

  • "Love the surf and turf. It is the only thing I have gotten every time I have eaten here. This time my wife suggested we do the wine paired tasting menu. It was a great idea! We got to try many different things on the menu and each was a surprise. The wines were delicious as well. We had a great evening."

  • "This was my first time to Restaurant Iris and it was all plus some of what I have been hearing for a very long time. Food, service, ambiance were all excellent. Definitely will be coming back."

  • "Thursday evening's dinner was my birthday celebration with my husband and another couple. I did not mention the occasion when I made the reservation. Upon learning the reason for the celebration out waitress brought ribbons and a rose for our table. We all loved out meal selections. My friend is a vegetarian. The kitchen prepared her a special plate since there is no vegetarian selection on the menu. My favorite dish that night was the raviolo appetizer. Of course, we all loved the lemon cake and ice cream dessert."

  • "Everything we ate was wonderful. Food and service were great. This is a nice restaurant to go to for that special dinner. Hate it takes so long to get reservations, but well worth the wait. Plan ahead! Noise level could be higher when restaurant is full."

  • "Most of the menu is not for a picky eater, but they do give you options and are willing to change things up to suit you. Food is beyond phenominal!! I had the moulard and I would definitely order it again. Service was OUTSTANDING!"

  • "We dined early in the evening due to the popularity of the place. I am told that the prime eating times for dinner are booked 6 to 8 weeks ahead. The food was outstanding, expertly prepared. The service was very good and very attentive."

  • "For a resturant of this caliber, the staff was not as inviting or accomodating as you would expect..."

  • "the food was great as it usually is. But was a bit disappointed to see the menu hadn't changed virtually at all except for the removal of the trout. usually the staff is inviting but we found them very cold and unreceptive this trip."

  • "This was our first visit to Restaurant Iris and it was fantastic. We had one of the best dinners we have had in Memphis ever. Superb service and setting."

  • "I had no idea what to expect, although I had previewed a menu online to get a feel for what might be available. I was impressed with the lobster knuckle sandwich served on a baguette slice. Flavor was exquisite. Brussels Sprouts were spicy and full of smoky flavor. The scallop entree although flavorful, was more impressive than the bed of cabbage and beans served underneath..bland and overdone. I was disappointed the most with the lemon cake, described as being made with mascarpone and lemon curd served with blackberry ice cream. The " cake" looked and tasted more like a dense biscuit, and a small smear of curd barely showed. I didn't bother to finish. The "homemade" ice cream did not have much flavor and was more "icier" than creamy"

  • "I very much enjoyed my dinner at Iris. I was able to do the 5 course menu, and as such, tried foods that I would not have ordered otherwise--but every bite I ate was delicious. I very much loved the brussel sprouts, duck, and the turtle shortbread dessert. I hope to go back soon!"

  • "This restaurant was amazing. The eclectic yet stylish atmosphere set the tone for one of the most memorable dining experiences I have ever had. The food was presented with an artistic flair, and the food itself was beyond compare in taste. I will definitely be coming here for more special occasions! We started out with the "Knuckle Sandwich", followed by the Surf & Turf, and finished with the Turtle Bars. There was not a bad thing to be said for this place!"

  • "We had been hearing about Iris for a while now. Finally got a chance to try it. It exceeded expectations. The food was some of the best I've ever had. I was most impressed by the wait staff. Their knowledge of the food and recomendations were on point. I would highly recommend Iris to anybody wanting a special treat. "

  • "We visited Restaurant Iris recently and enjoyed our visit last year much more. The bone marrow was not nearly as good and much more preparation was involved in cooking and in the presentation last year. I was not a fan of the fried green tomatoes and felt it lacked flavor. I ordered the Mahi Mahi and felt the jelatious concocuction under the fish was okay, but nothing special. The fish itself was good and well prepared. My friend order the Red Snapper and stated it was delicious, including the risottos. My other two companions ordered the surf and turf; both had no complaints. Overall, it is still good, but it seems that the opening of The Second Line and the absence of Chef English have made Iris a bit tired. "

  • "We had been wanting to dine at Restaurant Iris for some time, owing to all the accolades it has received. We came with two birthdays to celebrate, and we had an outstanding time. The waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful, and the food was as scrumptious as everyone promised."

  • "The ambience Restaurant Iris set for me and my husband for his 24th birthday was sooo lovely. The wine choices were really tasty. And the food was to die for. I recommend the Surf & Turf to anyone. You provided enough food to truly fill our bodies and souls with your rich goodness."

  • "Perhaps the finest, most memorial meal I have ever eaten anywhere. The chef is genius. I wish the waitress had been somewhat more appreciative of a 50% gratuity."

  • "For appetizers, my husband had the raviolo, & I had the lobster knuckle sandwich. Both were outstanding. For entrees, my husband had the shrimp and grits. He said is was good, not very spicy. I had the surf & turf which was a 13 oz NY strip & I substituted the fried oysters with the grilled shrimp for $2.00 upcharge. My steak was overcooked & tough. I only had 2 shrimp, & they were not very big. I expected a little more than 2 medium-sized rather tasteless shrimp. My husband & I are both chocolate lovers & were quite disappointed that the only thing on the menu for dessert that consisted of chocolate was a turtle-type dessert. Since we do not like caramel, we ended up getting no dessert at all. All in all, it was a bit disappointing. "

  • "the food as described by it brief sentence on the menu sounds so tasty but in reality the food we had was just average. My red snapper was just a tad overcooked and the risotto was nice but not as tasty as described. Well my wife's shrimp and grits turned out the same way. We were just passing through Memphis on our way to Grand Canyon sorry we will not be back. I'm thinking we should have stuck with the pork."

  • "The food was amazing, but the staff was better. Our server was interested in us having a good time. She gave us lots of information, doted on us, and made jokes with me. Kelly English also came out to make sure our dinner had been everything we dreamed of, and he sent out a small plate of some special dish for us to try. Overall, it was a great experience. It worth the price of admission."

  • "Restaurant Iris never disappoints. The fried oyster salad, frequently available but not on the menu, is wonderful. Other appetizers worthy of note include the bone marrow and the foie gras. I am particularly fond of the fish preparations, made, really, by the side accompaniments. The service is flawless and unobtrusive. Wonderful choice for a special occasion or just a special meal out."

  • "My roommates and I had my birthday dinner at Iris and it was amazing. The Lobster Knuckle Sandwich is a must have in my opinion. It was buttery and you get a good amount of lobster! I had the Red Snapper for the entree over green onion risotto. It was fantastic! All the flavors together were bite after bite of perfection. For dessert we all shared the bread pudding. The caramel sauce was amazing. If you like bread pudding, you'll love this one."

  • "Food was outstanding. The only knock I give it is service. I think our waitress had an off night. I had to ask another server for bread and refills. We all have bad days but for $320 dollars I want exceptional service. Other than that, can't beat it"

  • "This was my first time here. Reservations were made for my birthday a month in advance. Restaurant Iris is a hard place to get into...with good reason. The menu is a foodie's paradise. I choose several appetizers instead of an entrée to vary my tasting. These included a warm brussel sprout side (with what tasted like heritage bacon), slow roasted lamb belly, on top of a black-eyed peas salad, and duck confit fritters. There was also a free taste test of a proposed new appetizer...crab and avocado on bruschetta. I would have gladly paid full price for an order. The flavors and textures of all the dishes danced on my tongue. It was an amazing experience!"
