  • "We have been to Hambar a few times and have found the food delicious. This was not the case during our last visit. The cod croquettes were flavorless- too much potato not enough cod(the only indication there was real fish in there was a bone in one). The endive salad was tasty but drenched in dressing, gave us the impression it was sitting for a while as it was slightly mushy in texture. The guinea fowl was dry and overcooked - despite the tasty braised vegetables underneath. The short ribs , which I have had before, lacked the deep flavor they had previously had. The only winner was the charcuterie platter - which was of the standard we had expected at Hambar. Hopefully it was an off night (Monday) but it was a disappointing meal."

  • "On our last night in Montreal we wanted a light meal with some wine and Hambar was the perfect venue. We shared a charcuterie plate - great meats, pate, terrine, pickled vegetables and crispy toasted bread. We also got a cheese plate, very good cheeses although the portions were quite small. Service could've been better - we had reservations but had to wait for a table to be cleared for us, our water glasses were never topped up, and we had to ask for plates so we would share. We were happy with the food and drink, we would've left dinner feeling completely satisfied had the service been better."

Mostly empty dinning room, yet felt the need to interrupt whenever she came over, instead of showing a normal level of discretion & common sense to time her interruptions. Would not recommend."

  • "We went to hambar for brunch the morning after our wedding. The restaurant was very pleasant and willing to accomodate a group of 30 guests. It was pretty calm in there and it felt like we had the place to ourselves, even though there were other patrons. A nice, bright, trendy atmosphere. Good service, delicious food! Would definitely go back and recommend for group brunches!"

  • "I am generally not a fan of ham, but our table of 4 decided to order their Hambar ham special which serves 3 to 4 people. The ham was like that from a suckling pig only it was so tender you didn't even need a fork. The taste was heavenly and I am now hooked on ham- at least Hambar's version. The Cote de Rhone wine that we had was pretty good as well."

  • "We were a group celebrating birthdays. All started well with very pleasant stafft. Food was very good, especially the charcuteries platter (very high quality). The two different wines we had were excellent (private imports) Things got bad around the middle of the meal. Couldn't get a waiter, empty plates were no picked, etc. They were clearly understaffed !!! The worst part was the noise, in fact the music. I don't know why but at some point someone cranked up the volume and put on music that would be great for an happy hour in a crowded bar. Honestely, who really wants to listen to Rolling Stones for brunch time on sunday morning...I love music, I go out in bars, I like lively places.... but this was just ridiculous !!!!"

  • "I really like their salmon. It's the best I've ever tasted! It is also a nice and trendy place. Their platter of meat is pretty original and tasty. Perfect for a group to share! But beware if you order the big platter of cheese : there is practically nothing on there, for 32$!"

  • "From the very beginning, the service from the host was terrible. Despite having made a reservation, our table was not ready for about 20 minutes. We were stuck standing in the entryway, even though we could see an empty table as well as lots of room at the bar. The host wasn't polite, and eventually figured out that he should seat us at the bar while our table was being prepared. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive, which made up for the terrible host. The food itself was nothing to write home about. We tried all 6 dishes on the 'TasteMTL' menu, and everything was edible, but not as interesting as it seemed on the menu. The best dish out of the 6 was the smoked salmon appetizer with pea puree, which was not all that exciting."

  • "This place is really interesting. We got to try it during Taste Montreal with the special prix fixe menus and it was very good. Good food made really well. It made me want to come back to try all the charcuteries that they have to offer... The big hams hanging in the entrance are a sign that this place is something else!"

  • "Le plateau de charcuterie était parfait, très bien travaillé et très satisfaisant. Pour ce qui est du reste du menu, nous n'avons pas essayé les entrées mais les repas principaux n'étaient pas à la hauteur de nos attentes. Le tout reste très bien mais je recommanderais l'endroit pour un verre (très belle carte des vins) et la charcuterie seulement."
