I was staying down the street and read about this spot on OpenTable and decided to give it a try on a Sunday. I was disappointed when I saw the short brunch menu - very few options and all really egg-driven, only 1 or 2 true savory lunch options , but since it was so cold and windy outside I decided to stick it out. I had the french toast with sauteed mushrooms, parm, poached egg. It was pretty good, extremely salty, but satisfying and the egg was perfectly poached, which is a huge pet peeve for me when they are not, so points there. I had a glass of white rhone which was very good but expensive.

Belle découverte. Étonnamment accessible. Service efficace et cordial. Ambiance vivante et sympathique. Nourriture excellente. Sans prétention mais parfaitement exécutée. Le menu nous apparaissait comme le plus intéressant parmi tous les autres offerts dans le cadre de Montréal à Table. Nous n'avons pas été déçus. Merci pour la belle soirée.

I was there for Open Table with my 85 years old mom. Food was good, she had the Cavatelli and the pork I took the magret de canard and the fish. Only thing is that the pork needed a bit of sauce but she did like the taste. Service was good, we could see that service is important for them and this is what I liked. The only thing is the noise, I did not know that it was more known as a bar than a restaurant. I would definitely go back with friends for a 5 to 7. The dish with the ham and cheese did look very good.

Hambar provided a good menu for meat and fish eaters alike. We enjoyed everything on the MTL à table menu. The service was fast without being rushed. My own meal was just delicious - the caramel mousse with candied orange peel for dessert, a real treat. Well done on all counts. Will be sure to go again.

Meal was very good, main issue is how they charge more for the wine than the price posted on the wine list. When questioned they blame the exchange rate and that they can't reprint the price list regularly, they should at least tell you if the price is different when you order the wine instead of relying on the chance that most diners do not review their bill

My rating is based on a recent lunch experience, but we also went for brunch and it was excellent, as well. For lunch, simply put, the charcuterie platter was amazing and the wine selection was fantastic. I also have never had a more delicious gazpacho than the one I had here. And if you happen to go for brunch (which I recommend), the French toast is really delicious.

Located in Old Montreal's Hotel St. Paul, this small restaurant is a great option for lunch or dinner if you're in the neighborhood. My partner and I were pleasantly surprised by the menu options and the friendly, efficient service. As its name and the window display of cured hams suggest, Hambar offers outstanding charcuterie platters as well as other bistro staples such as bavette and steak frites. Get a window table facing Place d'Youville and enjoy a leisurely meal while you soak up Montreal's unique ambience.

We have been to Hambar a few times and have found the food delicious. This was not the case during our last visit. The cod croquettes were flavorless- too much potato not enough cod(the only indication there was real fish in there was a bone in one). The endive salad was tasty but drenched in dressing, gave us the impression it was sitting for a while as it was slightly mushy in texture. The guinea fowl was dry and overcooked - despite the tasty braised vegetables underneath. The short ribs , which I have had before, lacked the deep flavor they had previously had. The only winner was the charcuterie platter - which was of the standard we had expected at Hambar. Hopefully it was an off night (Monday) but it was a disappointing meal.

On our last night in Montreal we wanted a light meal with some wine and Hambar was the perfect venue. We shared a charcuterie plate - great meats, pate, terrine, pickled vegetables and crispy toasted bread. We also got a cheese plate, very good cheeses although the portions were quite small. Service could've been better - we had reservations but had to wait for a table to be cleared for us, our water glasses were never topped up, and we had to ask for plates so we would share. We were happy with the food and drink, we would've left dinner feeling completely satisfied had the service been better.

Duck confit was poorly prepared. Skin was soggy and greasy. Cassoulet very bland. Mushroom soup very bland. Server showed poor sense of timing/awareness. Mostly empty dinning room, yet felt the need to interrupt whenever she came over, instead of showing a normal level of discretion & common sense to time her interruptions. Would not recommend.

We went to hambar for brunch the morning after our wedding. The restaurant was very pleasant and willing to accomodate a group of 30 guests. I am generally not a fan of ham, but our table of 4 decided to order their Hambar ham special which serves 3 to 4 people. The ham was like that from a suckling pig only it was so tender you didn't even need a fork. The taste was heavenly and I am now hooked on ham- at least Hambar's version. The Cote de Rhone wine that we had was pretty good as well.
