Diner Reviews
  • "Food and service were fabulous. We would liked to have sat outside, but it was too cold and they were out of propane for the heat lamps. The only thing that could have been better was there was a door behind me leading out to the patio and they had to keep opening and shutting because there was a party that decided to sit out doors. There were two table that were affected by this. They might rearrange the tables or just find another door to use. I did get up and shut it once because the cool air was coming in. Otherwise, it was a great experience and we will be back when we can sit outside. Recommend the trout and the elderberry cake!"

  • "Highly recommended. Reviewed well on several boards. One of the best dining experiences we've had."

  • "The restaurant at Gideon Risge is a gem. Locally sourced foods, quiet and peaceful atmosphere, no more than a dozen tables, and a terrace for spring and summer dining. We enjoyed the quail and dirty rice appetizer the most. The entrees left a little to be desired (my duck was slightly chewy, my husband's steak while good was served with an odd lobster salad atop that resulted in the plate being a bit overwhelming) but overall flavors and quality of ingredients were excellent. For dessert we shared the carrot cake topped with mascarpone. I would encourage diners to enjoy an after dinner glass of wine in the cozy library."

  • "We drove from Floyd for a birthday dinner celebration for my husband (2 1/2 hrs) and were very happy with our choice. The menu changes weekly, and is somewhat limited as far as the number of selections, but we found plenty to keep us happy. Most entrees are between $24-29, appetizers between $8-15 and a soup/salad choice for $8-10. The chef is creative in his use of local ingredients, and we were delighted by the flavor combinations. A "deconstructed Philly steak" on a corn meal patty, sweet potato and Vidalia onion soup, and bass caught that day were some of the highlights. The wine list was probably the biggest lack-we were glad we had brought a bottle of our own (as backup) and paid the $20 corkage. Fun cocktail menu though!"

  • "This was a very fortunate find as my wife and I planned to spend a weekend near Blowing Rock. After looking for more obscure fine dining options, this came up amid sparkling reviews. After a little directional confusion, we found the inn and were pleasantly surprised by the cozy atmosphere of our table right by the fireplace. Our waiter, John, was knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list, and he made some great recommendations. There was no rush to leave as the place usually serves only 20-25 people a night. So, we took our time and had an enjoyable evening overlooking the mountainside. Highly recommended."

  • "Before going to the restaurant I read all reviews and everyone spoke very highly about the place including , one review that his wife had food allergies and the chef came to the table and explained what he was going to prepare for her. We went for my birthday what a disappointment, food was not bad but server was terrible, as soon as we sat down I informed her I am allergic to gluten, she informs me that I can only have one of the only 4 items on menu very for entre because the sauce on them have gluten, I ask her can I have them without the sauce, her answer welI I guess so, made no suggestions nothing about her was nice or polite, made the whole experience very disappointing !"

  • "My husband and I spent a wonderful stay at the Gideon Ridge Inn, where we enjoyed a late dinner at Restaurant G. From our seat by the fire to the excellent service by our waiter, John, the ambiance was delightful. Then came the food, expertly prepared from the freshest local ingredients. We had breakfast in the same dining room the next morning (part of the Inn experience). In the light hours, we were able to appreciate the spectacular views across he Blue Ridge through from the windows surrounding the dining room. We now must go back in warmer weather and dine al fresco on the patio. Amazing!"

  • "We returned to Restaurant G and found the same great service and fabulous dishes. We only wished that we were able to dine there for 4 evenings so that we could try all the entrees of the week! The pork shoulder was so tender and tasty that it didn't seem like pork at all. The wine selection was great and we enjoyed a quite evening."

  • "It's a bit hard to find in the dark, but worth it in every way. The slightly eclectic menu, attentive (but not hovering) staff and mountaintop setting set the tone for a great evening. My wife and I both loved the place. This is definitely on the list for a return visit."

  • "We had a wonderful experience at Restaurant G. Our server was very attentive and very well informed about the menu. Because he had sampled most of the choices, he was able to make informed recommendations based on our tastes. We had the cheese tray, which offered a wide variety of flavors accompanied by several fruits, nuts, meats and breads. We also had the frois gras, which was served with a tasty salad. I ordered the pork scallopini and my significant other ordered the lamb. Both were prepared impeccably and came with seasonal sides, also prepared quite tastily. We were seated in a quiet corner next to a beautiful Christmas tree. After dinner, we sat in the drawing room by the fire and enjoyed a cup of tea and some reading material."

  • "This intimate scenic dining room at Gideon's Ridge Inn is a little treasure. The food ranges from good to excellent with an emphasis on meat and produce from from local farms. The service is efficient and friendly. The wine list limited but offers good choices at reasonable prices. The mountain views are beautiful. After two dining experiences, I would return again."

  • "We were surprised when we were able to get a reservation at short notice. We were seated at a beautiful roundtable perfect for our conversation and the intentive staff met our every need. The food was delicious timely and served with panache. Although the venue has limited selections they were all expertly prepared and we specially enjoyed The beef tenderloin."

  • "My wife and I recently tried Restaurant G at Gideon Ridge for the first time, and found everything to be EXCEPTIONAL! It was one of the most outstanding meals we have ever eaten. Having dined at the most highly rated places across the county lately, none were as good as the meal we had at Restaurant G and Gideon Ridge."

  • "This restaurant is a hidden gem. Their farm to table approach meant that the menu changes according to what's in season from local purveyors and you could tell that a lot of thought goes into the dishes prepared. Also, the wait staff is amazing and attends to your every need. We enjoyed the evening."
