Fourteen Seventy-Two opened its doors on September 13th 2012 and offers a creative take on lowcountry dining. Our restoration of the 126 year old building, which includes a rooftop and lower patio overlooking Pearl Street, lends towards a very unique and comforting dining experience. Our staff is extremely welcoming and strives to provide the highest level of hospitality to our guests.Continued

  • "Upstairs outdoor patio is spectacular & offers great views of Pearl St. Food was excellent! However, anyone who eats out knows that food & ambiance only make up half the experience. The service is really the other half & on this, the restaurant failed miserably. Our waiter was a bit quirky (said "ladies & gentleman" every time he arrived). Had that been all, we would have been fine. We ordered drinks & food, & our bill was dropped off when we were only half through the meal. We were never offered another drink or dessert & our water was never refilled. The waiter stalked our table until we put our card in to pay & then picked it up as if he wanted to check his tip. It was extremely uncomfortable & rushed. Don't know if I'll go back."

  • "This restaurant has the makings of a great restaurant. Low Country (which we do not have in Denver if you know true Low Country.) It could be the best patio, outdoor bar, scenic, vibrant bar, great for brunch, kids, groups, etc.,. But, what's holding it up? I have no idea. The staff said they were down two servers and that they have so much seating they do not have enough staff? Well get some! It was a Sunday for brunch with farmers market going on. Walk ins were going to happen and turn of Opentable if you can't handle the load. The staff was very nice. I liked them and they tried. Food was okay. But, again I bet kitchen is under staffed. The owners should try to save this sinking ship! Prepare to dine for a while if you go."

  • "I took my sister to this restaurant for our annual "sisters' week-end". The prices are very reasonable, the service excellent, and the food brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed all food I ordered. Only criticism was the macaroni & cheese that came as a side to the Southern fried chicken looked and tasted like Velveeta shells and cheese. Wasn't the case when hubby ordered it a few weeks prior."

  • "After reading other reviews I was a little weary of this place, but we had a great experience. The service was good and the food great! We got the fried chicken with Mac n cheese, collards, and brocollini-- amazing! The shrimp and grits were okay, more sauce than grits or shrimp which left me a little hungry."

  • "I have been to Fourteen Seventy Two for brunch a few times, and occasionally for lunch, and I have always enjoyed the outdoor seating and ambience. Last week I decided to take a friend there for dinner and this place is not the same. The food has always been good/OK, and it was still good/OK. However, the service was terrible. We sat for almost half an hour and had long finished our glass of wine before the server reappeared to take our order. We enjoyed the sound of a power washer from the restaurant during our meal. And, to boot, when I checked my checking account a few days later, I learned that I was charged TWICE for the over-priced meal. I don't know what is going on with this place."

  • "1st time visitors: patio was great (garden level, did not see upstairs patio). People watching was excellent along Pearl St. Service was good even on a busy Friday evening. Food is not their strong point, short diverse menu and a bit bland. Beer and wine selections were good. Prices were about as expected for the area - more than you'd pay in a similar place in a less expensive neighborhood. Next time I'll just do happy hour there."

  • "As a native Southerner, I love low country food, but was disappointed by 1472. The wait staff is inattentive as we had a long wait before anyone came to the table and I had to get another waitress to find our waiter so I could get the check at the end of the meal. The food started off well as the corn crab cakes were excellent. However, my shrimp and grits entrée was terrible as the shrimp was undercooked and the goat cheese doesn't really go that well with the grits."

  • "I had eaten here for lunch and dinner before. This was the first time doing brunch there. The She Crab soup is always delicious. I also had the grit cake Benedict. It had collard greens and a pepper sauce over the grit cakes with large tiger shrimp. Really excellent."

  • "The server could have been overwhelmed but she didn't arrive promptly, we were delivered the wrong appetizer with no apology from the server, she didn't inform me, a vegetarian, that the potatoes were made with bacon grease. After only four small bites she took my plate and didn't seem to care that I wasn't happy with it. She didn't discount the meal even though I expressed my dislike and clearly showed it with four bites gone. If you're not particular about your food and don't care if service is good or not, I'd recommend this place only because of the patio."

  • "This was my second visit to Fourteen Seventy Two and again I loved the menu and the food was great. Large servings and very tasty. We had the cold gazpacho which was perfect for a warm day. The Southern fare is very close to my roots, being a Louisiana girl! I love this part of S. Pearl and it's vibrant feel. We ate upstairs on the covered deck area and it was a totally enjoyable experience. They are adding a bar down below which will be fun for late night outings! Great job on the renovation of this location...take a look at the photos of the little house before all their work."

  • "My daughter swayed me to try 1472. She frequents Stellas and thought the food next door looked yummy. She was right! From shrimp and grits, to seafood salad, to a pulled pork sandwich, the food was casual and delicious. The patio is the perfect place to catch up with friends on a summer evening."

  • "Given the great location, I decided to go here despite my skepticism regarding the strange kinda-Southern-fusion menu. Vindaloo sauce over meatloaf!? Balsamic and basil on fried green tomatoes!? The goat cheese grits were great and I got a very generous cocktail. Otherwise, meh. Searching for a healthy option (stupid me), I had the mahi mahi with tomato jam. It was a strange grey color, not fully cooked through, and had bones in it. The vegetable of the day was corn on the cob, but our plates arrived with undercooked broccoflower. My husband's pork ribs and friend's fried chicken were purportedly fine, but I thought the chicken looked almost burned. The "macaroni and cheese" turned out to be shells covered in a thin cheese sauce."

  • "Almost didn't go because of some bad service reviews. Glad I don't believe everyone! Jamie was there with water when we were sat and brought out drinks as soon as they were ordered. Poured our wine throughout the meal and answered all questions about the menu easily. We were a 4 top, with friends out for their wedding anniversary. We had 3 courses, couple bottles of wine, and drinks. Bottle wine was very reasonably priced. Crab beignets were more like hush puppies, but lots of crab. The she crab soup was really good. I'm originally from VA and love she crab soup and they did it right with dry sherry. Wild boar ribs and shrimp & grit cake good. We had a very fun evening! Don't believe all the reviews you read!"

  • "The level of noise was so out of control we could not have a conversation. It took 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge we were seated. The menus we were give were not all the same so very confusing. The service was extremely slow and the waiter seemed disoriented and could not make any recommendations. The Buffalo sirloin was overdone and dry. The wild boar ribs seemed reheated from the day before. The waiter was not motivated enough to keep our drinks refilled. Overall cannot recommend this place. Poor service, food flat, parking ridiculous! No valet. What a disappointment!"

  • "I love this place & have/will return a number of times! Fantastic spot for dates, friends, and family (probably not young kids). They have a quaint little front patio that's perfect fresh-air dining for 2-4 and a great rooftop space that is open on weekends. They converted an old home into a restaurant, which makes for an intimate feel inside. The food has been spot-on every time and they have delicious craft cocktails to fit all moods and seasons. The only drawback thus far is I tried to take a group of 15 for brunch on their rooftop, but when I called to make reservations they couldn't accommodate a group that large :( Given the great food/drinks/service, location, ambiance, and mid-range prices, this place is a no brainer."

  • "This is truly a find! Shared 4 appetizers and 4 of them were amazing! Best She Crab soup ever! The fried green tomatoes with mozzarella was so delicious we almost had to arm wrestle for the last piece. The Rolls…again, worth battling over the last one. The main courses equally decadent. The wild boar ribs were cooked to perfection, the pork chops savory and presented with stuffing in a perfect combination. The maple bourbon cocktail was worth savoring as long as possible. And the Key Lime pie…tears with each bite. Thank you. The menu allows so many reasons to return! Thank you Fourteen Seventy Two, for bringing joy to Pearl St!"

  • "I love New Orleans and Cajun style food. I'm glad 1472 is in the neighborhood. The food is delicious, great blending of ingredients and flavors. Good drink specials and an excellent brunch also. You can't be in a hurry though as the kitchen is small and the service is slow if somewhat apathetic. The servers often forget you're there and don't check back to make sure you got what you asked for. Have been back many times and will continue to go, especially for the salmon w/crawfish and the BBQ ribs-Yum! If they could make their service more professional and prompt they'd really be a winner. Lucille's watch out! This place beats the pants off Lucille's."

  • "Love New Orleans and the food, now 1472 brings the best to Colorado. 1472 bills itself as "low country" style food. Whatever. It's awesome. Tuna ceviche, corn & crab appetizers are delicious. Smoked chipotle boar ribs are incredibly tender, venison/lamb meatloaf is amazing, salmon with grits and the shrimp dishes are delicious. Friends have raved about the weekend brunch. The only down sides- no bar. They don't have a real bar. They need one, badly. And the service is slow. Glaciers move faster than these folks do. The kitchen is small, contributing to the agonizingly slow service, but the waitstaff need to communicate what's going on with your meal and take orders faster. Skip Lucille's, go to 1472 instead. Better food, nicer people."

The chicken and waffle dish wasn't great; well the waffle was delicious, the roast chicken instead of fried was bland. The blackened catfish was good, but it was drowned in a cream sauce. Overall, the restaurant was nice, if a bit dark. A little hard to find the entrance. The staff was amicable, and our waiter was quite knowledgeable. We'll try it again sometime..."

For appetizers, wine, entree, and dessert we payed $50/person (drop the appetizer, dessert, and go with one of their gourmet sandwiches and your bill will be much smaller than that). The food was worth the price. Chicken & Waffles were to die for, and the Mahi Mahi with goat cheese grits was total yums. The restaurant is well-decorated and cozy. We were there in the winter so the patio was closed off, but we are definitely coming back in the spring because the patio setup looks like one of the best in Denver. Service was perfect. Our waiter was a gentleman; he was knowledgeable about the menu and friendly without being intrusive. I can't wait to go back."

  • "We dined at 1472 because we had heard good things from a neighbor, so we decided to give it a whirl during restaurant week. (The fact that it was empty and last-minute reservations available should have been our first clue to avoid it.) Not only was the $60 meal for two not worth the price, but the prix fixe menu (which I understand was available for an entire month) was disappointing, flat and just plain ordinary. The funnel cake dessert had hard-as-a-rock pastries (almost like it was fried twice or fried into oblivion), the appetizer and soups were heavy and lackluster, and the entrees we had (fish and steak) seasonless and ordinary. It's a shame because we were hoping it would be another gem in the South Platte/Pearl collection."

  • "The mussels at 1472 used to be amazing. They used to have an amazing broth and served with delicious hot, french bread. My most recent visit left me highly disappointed; the broth was overpowered with lemon, and there was no hint of the andouille sausage which used to make it so fabulous. The crusty piece of chiabatta was a disappointing substitute for the piping hot french bread. I have had few great meals at 1472, I desperately want to like this restaurant. The vibe is refreshing and the patio is amazing. The decline in food and service is making my continued affection very difficult."

  • "We went here for Valentine's Day because we wanted to try a new restaurant and the menu looked fun. Everything we had here we thought was "just okay"...no notable flavors or anything exciting. I go out to eat because I like to have things I wouldn't be able to create at home. I feel like my husband and I make better tasting food at home. We started with tuna tar tar and conch chowder - both meh. I had the mahi mahi and it was cooked well, but flavor of sauce was really unremarkable. My husband had steak sandwhich and he was having a hard time chewing it....we skipped dessert which I never do and opted for a cappuccino next door. Service was decent although our server smelled like cigarette smoke which is kind of gross."
