Restaurant EugeneLived up to its lofty reputationEverything was terrific - service as good as any I've experienced in the city and the food was very good.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal!Really loved our experience at Restaurant Eugene! We both opted for the tasting menu and really enjoyed the range of flavors and presentation of each dish. It was a great meal with excellent service. The pan seared Flounder stands out as one of the truly amazing dishes we had as does the trout tartare. The cocktails were quite good as well. All in all it was a memorable meal that my wife and I both enjoyed greatly. We weren't the only ones, I could hear people at the other tables remarking how much they were enjoying their meals too...6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMadventurous palates onlyWOW. The first taste was a savory amuse bouche , a black pepper macaron with cheese filling that wiped La Duree off the map.
I used the somellier to choose wines for me by the glass and had one of the best Malbecs I ever tasted with my steak.
Desserts were BIZARRE. I had cheese so was very happy, everyone else disappointed.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTasting menu mostly hits the markService was pitch-perfect. It takes skill to use a table razor without condescension. Sommelier's recommendation was spot on. High points: soft-cooked egg yolk and sorghum -- who knew?; fresh herbs that cut the richness of the fried oyster; field peas that more than held their own against lamb and candied lemon. The kitchen knows their way around a vegetable patch. Also, everyone and their widowed mother came over to apologize for overcooked fish. Weak points: breads aren't show-stoppers; the brioche that accompanied the foie gras and delightful pickled strawberry didn't need its clarified-butter coating (grease on grease); the first round of fish was overcooked (but the kitchen's second try at the same dish was delicious).5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second visitThis was our second visit to assure that our first was not an aberration. It was better the second time. first class staff made the evening a real treat. Inspired food with wonderful wine pairings.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMTop notch!RE will definitely go down as one of the better experiences in my life to date. The service, ambience and food was all Michelin star worthy. We decided to go with the 5 course tasting menu and shared the wine pairings. I'm very happy with our choice because I don't think the a la cart would have done them enough justice. I can't wait to return and try another seasonal tasting menu.
Thank you RE!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing experience!Highly recommend the Tasting menu. Enjoy the freshest food prepared with Chef Linton Hopkins' creative mastery of flavors. It is clear why he has been awarded the James Beard and Food and Wine awards. The service team provided just the right amount of attention. Overall excellent experience!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Hopkins reigns uncontestedOn my annual trip to Atlanta, Eugene is the main restaurant stop, and I am confirmed in this choice each time. Chef Hopkins goes from strength to strength. Creative, seasonal, largely local food crafted into a thoughtful menu and served by intelligent and truly hospitable staff makes this the high point of Atlanta dining. The tasting (with supplements) is the only way to go. The pacing is perfect, and the transitions from dish to dish perfectly thought out. On top of that, they are FLEXIBLE with the tasting, which is not common to see. To top it all off, Rob, the head of guest services, got us into Holeman & Finch Public House, Hopkins's marvelous second restaurant next door, which does not take reservations. Go for the burger if you can!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMStunning as usualOur most recent trip to Restaurant Eugene reminded us why we love this place. Every bite a delight, every plate a work of art, charming service, and the sommelier's advice for wine pairing was spot on. What a great team!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAtlanta's BestRestaurant Eugene is never the same but always the best. The menu changes with the seasons and availablility of fresh foods, and every dish is prepared and presented with meticulous attention and care. It is, quite simply, the best in Atlanta.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe jouneyDid the 7 course meal. Very good. Takes 3 hrs to complete - plan accordingly5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMService didn't match the food!Had one of the best meals I've ever had but disappointed in the service. Our table did the tasting menu with wine pairings and every course was wonderful - some pretty close to magical. However, the service disappeared at times - sometimes a wait of 10 to 15 minutes waiting for the next course. That was the one disappointment in an otherwise lovely evening.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMJust too much. The service was overly solicitous, the food ( we selected the chef's sampling menu) was so fussy that the taste was limited. One of our diners was pregnant and stated that she's not eating much lately but was craving steak. That was when the waiter announced that all diners must participate in the chefs tasting menu or nobody could. This bullied the poor pregnant woman into the silly tasting menu with many foods she could not eat. The whole experience was extremely costly and just too much.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMexpensive but well worth itCreative dining, superbly prepared and served with care. You can enjoy your food and conversation with subtle background music and attentive waitstaff.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA great birthday choiceI selected Restaurant Eugene because it was in the top 5 suggested results of my Google search "Atlanta best rated restaurants". The service was impeccable. The food was amazing! The staff talked alot about the chef and it now makes sense. Chef has it going on! The Greens Salad was probably one of the best salads I've ever had. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and extremely tasteful. The meal was a bit pricey though. If price is not a factor, definitelty add Restaurant Eugene to the list.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic Dining ExperienceOverall great dining experience. Very romantic setting. However, waiter didn't have enough understanding of the menu to clearly explain it to us. Found it a little confusing.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the food; ignore the serversThe Service was, simply, obnoxious. Too many people, paying too much attention. Menus are indecipherable. Really, does someone think thats trendy or clever design?
Food is delicious. They've just made it hard to simply enjoy it.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMModerationThe food and service is excellent but these are New York price with San Francisco size portions so be prepared from a cost perspective. The biggest disappointment was the lack of a moderately priced wine selection. When the least expensive Pinot is $58 for a half bottle I think you are pushing it and I love to spend money on wine.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA special place, but...Limited menu, so if you find something you like, it will delicious and beautiful, but not a place for picky eaters!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative chef preparing foodCreative chef preparing food using local fresh produce. The service matched the 5 star food. if you are in Atlanta you must dine here.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you love food and great serviceDisregard the haters and treat yourself to a night at Eugene. Is it a little over the top and and a bit pretentious? Sure. But the service is impeccable, and the food is terrific. Portion sizes are intended to enjoy, and not to fill plates. If you want the latter, stick with the Cheesecake Factory.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMInspired taste combinationsOur first time at Eugene will not be the last! Wonderful food in a quiet room with first class servers made for a perfect dinner. Foigras with pecan tartlet was inspired, could easily be a desert option! We both had fish entres that were similarly wonderful. Desert banana sorbet was an indescribable combination of unlikely flavors that melded into harmony. A treat!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, no passionThe food is excellent, as good as Bacchanalia. The service, however, is a little stiff and less inviting. Although the various servers knew their stuff, it seemed that some of the stiffness comes from an necessary formality and not as much passion for the food. Dining at Restaurant Eugene should be a passionate experience and the service doesn't seem up to the task.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMStill my favouriteThis was my fourth trip to Restaurant Eugene and it continues to surprise and delight me. I highly recommend the tasting menu as it'll give you more opportunity to taste the brilliant combinations of flavours that Chef Linton puts together. Not only that, we've typically been sent additional "gifts" from the kitchen, adding to the number of courses to savour. If you haven't done a wine pairing before, it's a great way to explore the interplay between food and wine and it really rounds out the whole experience.
Service was also top notch and the staff dealt beautifully with my mistake regarding the time of our reservation. The flow of the meal was smooth and the staff was informed and approachable.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHave Mercy Nurse! The staff at Eugene's is inimitable...these are young people who know their jobs and enjoy doing them...at all positions.
What meal! A creative menu beautifully presented.
Our guests from Los Angeles, a city with fine restaurants, were wowed by their experience at Eugene's. Keep up the fine work!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHad both the vegetable andHad both the vegetable and omnivore 5 course tasting menus, plus wine pairing. Veg risotto with mushrooms was perfectly balanced. Veal with sweetbreads paired w chianti had a broth which we mopped up with fresh artisan bread. Our server, Robert was knowledgable and attentive. An excellent evening! Enjoy.
Oh, stopped at Holman & Finch beforehand for cocktails made by Tyson. Fab!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit to RestaurantFirst visit to Restaurant Eugene. Had a 6pm reservation so the place was almost empty at that time. Service was perfect and dinner was very good but very expensive! Atmosphere improved as more customers started to come in and the place was busy at around 8pm just as we were leaving! For a special occasion such as a birthday celebration it was very good.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPhenomenal food parings andPhenomenal food parings and integration of distinct and pleasurable flavors. Every piece of food on the plate was custom-crafted and prepared with thoguht. It is expensive, but well worth it for a special occasion. The energy and craft that goes into the food is far superior to any of the other fine restaurants that I have been to in Atlanta. Also of importance, my wife and I have quite different palettes, and we were both blown away.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperlative... from a tough critic!Simply one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. We have been blessed with opportunities to enjoy some fabulous meals across the US and internationally. Restaurant Eugene is right at the top. Amazing creative dishes, superior execution, incredible service. The most basic items like bread were delicious as were complex innovative combinations of ingredients that you would never think would go together. Very warm and friendly, personable staff who connected with us... Attentive yet not pretentious service... and flavors that will blow your mind. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but well worth it.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came here for our anniversaryWe came here for our anniversary dinner, and had a wonderful experience. Our menu was printed with "Happy Anniversary." All of the food, including the tasting of spring vegetables, was very fresh and vibrant. Everything we ate tasted great! They even gave us some dessert items at the end to wish us a happy anniversary.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMaybe the best overall mealMaybe the best overall meal we have had in Atlanta.
Service was a little hurried, but overall the pace of the meal was fine.
The food combinations within the dish were interesting, educational and suberb.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood as always was outstanding.Food as always was outstanding. Scallops, duck breast, seasonal vegetables were perfect. Service is also very professional and spot on - not too obtrusive, but there when you need it. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fine dining - it is one of the two or three top restaurants in Atlanta for food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you want to match up withIf you want to match up with any other city's best, Restaurant Eugene is a place Atlanta can put up as one of its best.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant was very niceThis restaurant was very nice with both classy, sophisticated service and creative, delicious food. I plan to return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall we enjoyed our experience,Overall we enjoyed our experience, an anniversary dinner. The waiter had to use his cheat sheet a few times but with the chef's tasting menu with wine tasting, that's not unreasonable. Pricey, but we knew that going in.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe whole experience was veryThe whole experience was very good. I had the duck beast with forie gras butter. It was magnificent. The other dish was the tigger fish. Very good but not exceptional. The salad was fantastic. Shrimp and hoopin john is worth trying. Alicia is in the very elite of servers I have ever had. Juan did a great job of marrying our wine with the food that was within the price I gave him.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOur meal was superb, and IOur meal was superb, and I highly recommend Restaurant Eugene. We did the tasting menu but needed to make a couple of substitutions due to food allergies and this was taken care of without any difficulty. The wine pairings were some of the best we have ever had in terms of the wines truly complementing the foods and extending their flavors.
Many thanks to Clay for giving us a great evening.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food but be readyAmazing food but be ready to spend some serious money.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were in Atlanta and onlyWe were in Atlanta and only had one night for a nice dinner out. I'm so glad we chose Eugene. Everything was perfect, from the phone call altering a reservation from four to five people, to the person who took us to our table, all wait staff and bus people.
Our waiter was especially good. Excellent descriptions and recommendations. Food was top notch.
The restaurant was full, but due to very careful planning on their part, the walls are covered with soft surfaces to absorb noise (something most restaurants don't bother with)so the noise level was quite low.
wonderful evening!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest of the best in the Southeast!Just to be short: this is the best restaurant in Atlanta!
Great consistency and food!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best restaurantsOne of the best restaurants I've ever been to and the service was impeccable.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMaster of service.Service far beyond what one usually receives in Atlanta. Every member of the wait staff was professional, friendly, & solicitous. They want you to have a good experience. We had a great wine recommendation from the sommelier. We share the small plates of Wild Georgia shrimp and squash soup and were made to feel comfortable that sharing was so appropriate---& therefore, got to have "tastes" of several dishes. The entrees of snapper and guinea hen were excellent.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMTremendous food. UnobtrusiveTremendous food. Unobtrusive but knowledegable staff3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSublime.
