Restaurant DucroixUnpretentious French gemMy group and I were blown away with the unbelievably fabulous fresh, unfussy, delicious food! I have already shared my experience with a number of friends. I'm afraid the location can be a detriment, only because there is not a lot of foot traffic after the work day and people leave the area (borders Financial Center and Chinatown). I will definitely go back! Highly recommend.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDucroixI went to Decroix for the first time for my 30th Birthday last Saturday. Wow! A hidden gem in the middle of China town! The place is really quaint, and I knew I was in for a delicious meal as soon as I entered because everything coming out of the kitchen smelled amazing. Not too many patrons inside on a Saturday night which is a shame because this place is absolutely worth checking out. A truly special and secret little place you would never expect to find in the neighborhood. Also, If by chance you're looking for a cute place to take some one out on a date, this would be a perfect destination. Waitstaff was very professional and polite, over all excellent experience. Can't wait to go back!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for bistro-esque foodLunched here earlier in the week. Very simple but pure French food. Friendly and attentive service. I had the salmon with a gratin potato in a green salad. Excellent and fairly priced. I'll be back for more!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall I enjoy going to thisOverall I enjoy going to this restaurant. It is small, so they only have person taking orders. This person can get a little overwhelmed between taking your order and getting you tab. I would still recommend the restaurant. Just be patient.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb menu & excellent preparationAs visitors to SF a local recommended Ducroix. We went for business lunch and found it to be a solid winner. Food is interesting with excellent preparation. Everyone in our group enjoyed their selection. We liked it so much we returned for dinner one evening. Even though we ordered what seemed to be simple dishes ( Risotto with side orders of vegetables and salads), we found everything we superbly prepared... these folks deliver great food. The café is small and simple, but don't be surprised to find it growing quickly as it is a real find. One final note: they are truly thoughtful folks: I left my credit card behind and they quickly found my cell phone number on the reservation, alerting me while I was still in the area.A real Gem!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great! Small andFood was great! Small and unassuming little restaurant with great French food :)3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was awesome. But serviceFood was awesome. But service was really bad. Took the server about an hour and half for us to just order. Ordered a salad but it never arrived.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMReal treatLove Restaurant Ducroix. I feel as if I am in France: really good food and wine without the trappings of American restaurant decor. Prices are very reasonable; the emphasis is on the food and the service is delightful. It really is a find in a neighborhood that has some very expensive restaurants and some lower end ones, but few that focus on good french bistro food at good prices. We had a great evening there.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Experience! We had a wonderful dinner experience at this cozy and charming restaurant. The place has simple but nice deco that brought back our sweet memory of some small restaurants in Europe. We ordered the Lobster special and were pleasantly surprised by its huge size. We would love to go back and try out their lunch soon.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe most friendly French experienceThis little neighborhood restaurant is a true find. Get here before it goes big. Currently, small, intimate and understated, so it's such a surprise to be served such amazing food. We ordered Filet Mignon and scalloped potatoes that would melt in your mouth and a Mushroom Risotto that was creamy, delicious and topped with portobello, carrots, green beans in a mouth watering combination that any non-vegetarian would love as well. The next table was heartily loving the lamb shank. We recognized Phillip our waiter from Hayes Valley Bar & Grill and he puts his passion for food and wine into excellent service and a thoroughly outstanding experience. Doesn't hurt that the chef's grandfather was a chef at Maxim's Paris. A+++3/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe ambiance was simple butThe ambiance was simple but reminded me of a small Parisian bistro. The food was great! We had two of the specials, filet mignon with a pat of pate and root vegetables and lobster in a cognac cream sauce, Both were excellently prepared and delicious. Ducroix even had a couple of vegetarian and vegan options. The sole waiter was gracious and welcoming and made a good wine recommendation. The restaurant filled up but it never got too loud to hear each other. I think the slightly dark intimate atmosphere encouraged people to speak softly. My friend said she felt transported away from SF. I've already recommended it to friends.2/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLong-time fan of this restaurant.Long-time fan of this restaurant. Food is excellent, especially at the price.
The service is professional; but they aren't there to be sweet and friendly. This caused a few raised eyebrows from my guests at my most recent visit - the waiter was a bit abrupt and aloof. I've never been to France but I understand this is the norm over there.
The establishment itself is on the spartan side. It does not have a cheap appearance, but it is not really "upmarket" or "fancy" to look at. Also, a bit cramped. They would do well in a larger space, and perhaps a tick upwards on prices could finance some nicer ambiance.2/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat French Restaurant!!Great food with a relaxed atmosphere.
They have some really good French wines that are hard to find elsewhere.
We had the lobster special and could not get enough!
Always happy with the escargots.
Everything else we tasted was amazing . . . Cassoulet, Seabass, special filet with pate . . . can't wait for my next meal there.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
