Diner Reviews
  • "I had read the reviews but admit to having been somewhat skeptical. This is a great restaurant with creative and delicious food, excellent service and atmosphere."

  • "The food was delish, (We had the Pepper Jelly appetizer, then I had the Shrimp and Grits, my husband had the Oyster Poboy... both outstanding) and atmosphere beautiful. Thank you Cory for opening this dining experience in Monroe, LA. Can not wait to return...goal: to try everything on the menu! Waitstaff could have been just a tad more attentive, but extremly knowledable and pleasant."

  • "Our lunchtime visit was great! Our server, Marcel, was skilled. The food was superb. Simple fare, a pork sandwich with fries for my wife, ribs and potato salad for me. Fresh ingredients, innovative recipes, and expert preparation and presentation made the meal a real treat."

  • "What a great find in Monroe! Loved every aspect of it."

  • "The service is exceptional with friendly waiters that are happy to serve you. The food is the best in town... with items on the menu that are not available at most places."

  • "i took my father and stepmother there for brunch; they aren't normally foodies but they absolutely loved their choices. we had the shredded pork on a huge biscuit, buttermilk pancakes and toad in the hole with the bacon wrapped duck muscovy to start. my father had a local beer, my stepmother had a mimosa and i had a pimm's cup which she actually preferred so we traded. the waiter was a polite young man who paid us a lot of attention and had lively conversation. we sat outside overlooking the river. the building is over 200 years old and you could tell the restaurant respected that history in their ambience and decor. i would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "Wonderful food, great dining experience. We were seated up stairs in a semi private area (we were the only ones in the room) our party of 7 were able to visit and carry on conversation while sharing a great food."

  • "Every time we eat at Restaurant Cotton we are amazed at the creative menu and just how much we enjoy dining there. The food that is served is just as delicious as the menu describes it and we always leave wanting to come back for more. At this last visit, we started with the pimento cheese beignets and were not disappointed: warm, creamy pimento cheese inside the crisp beignet, topped off with a bite of pickled green tomato - perfection! They were also kind enough to indulge my preference for scrambled eggs instead of poached when I ordered the Pork and Eggs. By the way, the biscuits are also just as you would expect - not too doughy, not too "short" - just right. Their shrimp and grits are probably the best I have ever had."

  • "Restaurant Cotton has in the past been consistently unreliable. Last 3 visits not only was the food almost inedible, but service was extremely lacking. The only reason I made this reservation was the availability of a somewhat isolated area for our group of 10. Surprisingly, the stars were aligned, and everything was perfect. From appetizers (duck wraps always good ) to desert, food was wonderful and service impeccable. Hoping this is a new trend."

  • "Incredible food and great atmosphere for a romantic anniversary dinner. Only complaint was lack of waiting staff. Had to wait for refills and other things, but wait staff did try to hard to make up for the lack of help. We will definitely make a trip back to Cotton. "

  • "Every time I'm in Monroe (used to live there), I make a visit to Cotton. Inventive, tasty food combinations. Two of us had the redfish, one had a salad, and another the burger (because of the bacon jam). I have never had a bad meal here. I would add some more salad to the redfish dish. "

  • "I just love everything about this restaurant! The drinks, appetizers, food, desserts, and even the decor! I've not been to a restaurant anywhere in Louisiana that I like more than Cotton. Can't wait to go back.."

  • "This cajun/creaole quizine is truely remarkable. The menu has everything from a down-home southern dish to something truely unique. I definitely see myself going back. If you haven't tried Cotton yet, its truely a great experience. For lunch, the meatloaf sandwich is especially scrumptious!"

  • "You'd expect to find a restaurant of this caliber in New Orleans, not Monroe, La. This restaurant is truly a gem. On my flight from Houston into Monroe, I struck up a conversation with a fellow passenger, and she highly recommended the duck wrap as a starter. I don't typically order duck, but I have to say, it is the very BEST starter I've ever had! Just delicious! Our entrees were cooked to perfection (you could cut the filet with your fork), and the service was outstanding! Round off your meal with the pear tart -- OMG!!! Also, just loved the ambience of the restaurant; very tastefully decorated and comfortable. Highly Recommend!"

  • "The atmosphere was great, I've never been anywhere like it. We had reservations at 6 and had most of the upstairs to ourselves, it was quiet and we were really able to visit and enjoy the experience. The food was amazing and was prepared so quickly! Our waitress really made the experience that much better. We asked a lot of questions and her help was very resourceful. The location was confusing to get to but worth it in the end. We will be going back again! "

  • "Took my mom out for Mother's Day dinner on Saturday night. Most of our problems were the hostess' fault. She asked us if upstairs was OK and since we had never been upstairs we didn't know to just say no. My elderly mother almost didn't make it up the steep stairs (and coming back down was worse). Then we were put at a high bar table where my mother's legs didn't reach the chair rail. It was extremely uncomfortable (and eventually painful) so we had to ask to move to a regular table. The bar room where we were seated was intermittently very noisy (patio door slamming, dumping ice at the bar, etc). The wait staff did a fine job though. The food was great. The roasted oysters were delicious but one piece of bread is ridiculous. "

  • "We have spent our last two anniversaries with Cotton and have enjoyed every minute of it - the drinks, the food, the service is outstanding and we always get the table for two at the front window! Couldn't ask for anything better except if maybe he would open a Bed and Breakfast in some quaint part of the area! We'd GO!"

  • "My husband & I had a wonderful time! We was greeted by our waiter as soon as we say down! Great environment for a special evening with your loved one or for a get together with friends and/or family!! I would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone!!"

  • "Chef Cory Bahr learned to cook in the Southern tradition in his Grandmother's kitchen. His food creations reflect that old time goodness with a flair. We feel like we are truly dining, rather than just eating out. Restaurant Cotton is housed in a turn of the century elegant building in Downtown Monroe, La. The soaring ceilings, the elegant bar, the outstanding service, and great food makes for a wonderful business lunch, dinner with friends, or a romantic evening overlooking the Ouachita River. My business allows me to entertain out of town guest quite often; always at Cotton. There are those who speak of the freshness of the food, or the ambiance, with statements like, "I don't want to leave" or "I will definitely come back". "

  • "Cotton is the rare gem that has re-engineered the palate through gastronomique artistry! Food is meant to be loved and Cotton loved exposing our table to a dynamic arrangement of magnificent flavors. We enjoyed: the oyster and duck appetizer (nothing should be as good as that duck before you eat an entree and this broke all the rules on amazing); for entrees we had the Cobia (special entree for the night) and trio of Filet."

  • "I had the feeling that we got there quite late for brunch as the staff seemed to be getting ready to close as we were about halfway through the meal. We had been lost for about a half an hour, so we arrived about 2:00 PM for our 1:30 reservation. They were very nice about it and asked us not to worry about them getting ready to close. But, the lateness was apparent in my food. It looked and tasted like it had been warmed for a long time. On the other hand, my wife's shrimp were delicious and that made it a mixed bag. We'll certainly take the blame for the over-cooked food because of our lateness and the staff did a lot to make up for it. "

  • "Great food. Wasn't sure if we'd get in, but booked a reservation on Open Table and had no problems or wait, even though the place was packed. Special menu for Easter, but I'm definitely going to make Sunday brunch at Cotton a regular thing."

  • "My husband and I have been wanting to try Cotton for quite some time and decided to make it for our anniversary. we are both really good cooks and have put an "X" on many restaurants locally and across the country. Honestly. The only thing we would have improved was the biscuits and really not much. The meal was glorious, the service impeccable, the drinks were varied and excellent. The wine selection also excellent, The meals were made of locally raised meat and vegetables, fresh sustainable ingredients. Over all an outstanding experience and will make it a regular stop and recommend to all our friends. Thank you."

  • "After dining at restaurant Cotton for the first time I am pleased to say that it is far ahead of any other restaurant I have ever been to. The overall atmosphere was amazing. The old school southern charm really made me feel at home. Great southern hospitality and I will be dining again sooner than later."

  • "What a neat place to have dinner. I love that fact that Chef Cory uses local ingredients and stays true to his roots! My family and I enjoyed the meal from the first bite of the appetizers down to the last bite of dessert. We absolutely have plans to visit again! Chef Cory was a sweetie and even signed a menu for us (we're big fans of Chopped). The wait staff was awesome and we have told everyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to stop in if they get the chance :-)"

  • "Reservation was made with a request to sit in the upstairs bar area if possible. Arriving on time we were advised there was no table available in that area, as there were several people up there and they had been lingering. I understand that, it was the bar area. The hostess then seated us at a table shoved up against the entrance to the kitchen/service back area. Very small tabletop, and it was loud and very high server traffic area. That's not the table you put reservations in - that's where you park the walk-in's. I requested a different table, and luckily one had just opened up at one of the upstairs dining areas. Other than one guy loudly making a sales pitch to his dinner guests in the room, the ambiance and food were great."

  • "The atmosphere was perfect, the lighting was a touch dark but worked out just fine, and the food was 15 out of 10. The service was great and the timing of the meal for two was perfect. They got everything to us on time and it was hot. I would suggest expanding the restaurant."
