Restaurant AugustEverything was ExcellentThe food was excellent as was the service - truly top notch from start to finish. I had the foo gras 3 ways and each one was delicious and fun. I had the trout for my main course. The fish was cooked beautifully, all of the flavors had a great balance on the plate. I tried some of the food my girlfriend got - P&J oysters and the lamb loin - and these were excellently balanced and cooked plates as well. We both agreed we've found our new favorite restaurant in New Orleans, well done John Besh!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe BestRestaurant August is consistently the best of the best. Have always had a superb meal and excellent service every time. A must in New Orleans for the serious food lover. Be sure to call early to get a reservation.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed!I recently dined at August. I was on business travel and was sat at a lovely table by myself. I usually dine at the bar but the dining room at the restaurant is really lovely so I choose to sit there.
I made my own tasting menu from items from the 2 tasting menu and the regular menu. All items were great but the one I enjoyed the most was from the vegetable tasting menu. They were lovely squash blossoms filled with beet puree. They were out of this world and the highlight of the meal. I think it's just me but I enjoy vegetables more than meat and seafood these days!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful diningFood was great. ..Service first class....
Top spot in NOLA....A must visit...6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for date nightI am vegetarian, my husband is not. It is difficult in the south to find a restaurant for healthy foodies. While not particularly healthy, I appreciate the creativity required to make such a divine vegetable menu. This is now my favorite restaurant in town.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMy Favorite New Orleans RestaurantHad an absolutely fabulous meal at Restaurant August. This place never disappoints. Great wines, wonderful food, incredible dessert and as always, a surprising amuse bouche from the chef. As we like to say in Louisiana, always nice to have a little lagniappe!
Fantastic food and a wonderful atmosphere. Come here for romance or just a good time out with old friends. You won't be disappointed. This is my favorite John Besh restaurant.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded expectations! This was a special birthday celebration dinner for my husband and Restaurant August was a perfect choice for our celebration. The actual restaurant was intimate and welcoming. The service levels were wonderful and attentive, but not overbearing. And of course, the food was divine. I started with the crispy squash blossoms stuffed with beet hummus - absolutely delicious. My main was the lamb loin, prepared perfectly. To end the meal, I had the goat's milk cheesecake - yum! I would highly recommend August, particularly for a very special occasion.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA Chef's restaurantAs a retired executive chef, I have a very discerning palette, an educated eye for great presentation and a chef's nose for the romancing fragrance of quality prepared food that must accompany a great meal. Restaurant August and staff delivered in all aspects.
Our table Captain Randi Adlesic was captivatingly outstanding. She kept us entertained, engaged as well as skillfully guiding us through our entire meal. We wanted for nothing. Randi is to be commended on her knowledge and demeanor. A true food star!
Chef Michael Gulotta delivered a masterful execution of his menu offerings. Chef Michael's culinary and kitchen management expertise is to be applauded. He honored our table by visiting. Bravo team, great job. Chef Besh must be proud.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMReally specialThe restaurant exudes charm and warmth. We were a group of 6 and the intimate table made conversation easy and yet it was extremely comfortable. The good was excellent...I had trout which was moist. But the outstanding parts of the dinner were the amuse bouche of a cauliflower mousse served in an egg shell, and the oyster appetizer which was the best oyster dish ever. The oysters were fresh and soft inside and crisp outside. But not greasy, not overpowering, just perfect, with an amazing sauce. I know we will all dream of them for a long time!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful lumchThis was the first time I ate lunch at the restaurant and everything was wonderful. The pris fixe menu was great at a very reasonable price. I definitely recommend lunch.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNo words can describeExcept those like fabulous, superb, masterful, etc.... Everyone should go and find their own words. They won't regret the experience!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMixedBeautiful restaurant and very nice staff. However, we spent over $200 for dinner for two and we were in and out in 45 minutes. The restaurant was not busy that evening and we were brought to the last room and were seated at the very last table in the corner. When we left there were several empty tables for two in the front. We felt like we were being watched and rushed. The food was good - dessert excellent. We've dined at most of the fine dining restaurants in New Orleans and this was supposed to be the cream of the crop. Not so. The mahi was excellent as was the banana dessert.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing MealIt had been a while since I visited Restaurant August. They have vastly changed the menus and increased portion sizes to correlate with the prices. Definitely had one of the best meals in a very long time here! Everything was cooked to perfection with amazing flavor! Highly recommend for a special occasion.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat little restaurantWe went by all the good reviews and weren't disappointed. It was a special occasion for us and I don't think we would have found a better place to celebrate. The waitress was extremely efficient and sweet. There was also a man - not sure what he was but he attended us also. The food was excellent - every course. The salad was extremely fresh and seemed like right from the garden. I had sablefish and was pleased to see that the portion was just the right size. Everything was done to perfection.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply the best!August was the dining highlight of our trip to New Orleans. Highly recommend to foodies - pricey but worth it if you're looking for a unique dining experience.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dining Experience at AugustWe had a great dining experience at August, everything was extremely well thought out and each ingredient worked together nicely. I started off with the crawfish and sweetbreads and it was fantastic. I ended up ordering the softshell crab for dinner which again was fantastic and then ended with the banana pudding which has won many awards and deserved every one of them. Others got the gnocchi, trout, and steak and had no complaints about any of them. The house made ginger beer is great so you should order a cocktail that requires its use. We will be returning to August the next time that we are in town.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGoing the extra mileIt was our 23 year anniversary and I was not disappointed. The experience was amazing.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMawesome vegetableswe were very impressed with the vegetables and the service. the $54 rib eye was almost inedible, I get that rib eyes are a fatty cut of meat but half of this one was fatty. very underwhelmed for the price. also there was no hard sear on the steak and it lacked seasoning such as salt and pepper, somewhat unbelivable! however all the vegetables we had that evening were perfectly prepared, next time I will do the vegetable tasting.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful anniversaryGreat, freshest food with family and the friendliest of service! Can't wait for next visit!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe very much enjoyed our eveningWe very much enjoyed our evening at August. From the moment we were greeted, the staff was attentive, knowledgeable and professional. The food and presentation were both outstanding and the ambience (in the second dining area near the wine storage) was elegant, but not stuffy, and comfortable. Our waiter's recommendations were on target and appreciated. Would definitely return should the opportunity arise.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMTop spot of our vacationWe absolutely loved this restaurant. It was the second John Besh restaurant we frequented on our vacation, the first being Luke in San Antonio, and so we were really looking forward to another good meal. Except "good" isn't even close to the superlative this restaurant deserves. It was perfect. There were six of us and we had to agree that every single course for each of us came up nothing short of perfection. Soft Shell crabs, Berkshire Pork, Trout almondine, Ramp Risotto...the list goes on. And, the service was impeccable. Not daunting; just knowledgeable and friendly! It was truly the best thing about New Orleans. This is the reason I would return. Great evening.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMCulinary DelightIt is a comfortable, lovely dining environment with attentive but not intrusive staff. From start to finish, everything we ate was exceptional in presentation, flavors, taste, temperature and portion size. If you want to enjoy a truly wonderful dining experience in New Orleans, you must visit August.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMStill awesomeMy husband and I ended our annual trip to NOLA with August. They make you feel like family returning for hugs, but you get yummy cuisine filled with creativity instead. This is the kind of dinner that makes me want to buy a small get a way home down the street, so I can go there when the urge is overwhelming. Because the menu changes at least 4 times a year with additions as well, there are always surprises. I had the vegetable tasting menu and my husband had the main tasting menu. We ordered 2 appetizers before, but could have maybe gotten just one as we struggled to finish our meals comfortably. Can't wait to go back.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGo A La CarteThe food was delicious and I don't think you can pick a bad thing on the menu. However, I was disappointed with the dinner tasting menu, which is really just a prix fixe menu. My husband and I have sampled our fair share of tasting menus by other equally accomplished chefs, and with every other tasting menu we've ever had, the chef has offered a variety of plates to the two of us, allowing us to taste 10-12 different items off the menu. In this case, we each got the exact same 5 dishes. While each of the items was delicious, I didn't feel like I left the restaurant having sampled a good variety of the dishes. Also, it was disappointing that the restaurant's signature dishes weren't on the tasting menu. My advice: Go a la carte.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMust for Lunch!Every time I am in town I always include Restaurant August; if not for dinner than for lunch. It has always been absolutely reliable. The gnocchi was a perfect starter. The soft shell crab was superb!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBlown awayExceptional service, creative and delicious dishes, classy ambiance. You get much more than what you pay for. Definitely under-priced. They accept even more relaxed business casual dress code, but I would strongly recommend to don your best outfit -out of respect for the place and yourself.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommended!Really superb. A restaurant we all agreed could compete at the one-Michelin-star level if such ratings existed in NO. The atmosphere is unique, the service was both very friendly and very highly competent, and the food was excellent. Restaurant is not quiet but not crowded tight nor too loud for conversation. Wine list is very good (and the wine "cellar" is worth seeing), especially if you like French varietals.
You can order a la carte from the tasting menu as well!
Winning dishes: Fried oysters, soft shell crab, roasted duck, gnocchi side. Losing dishes were an artichoke-and-pork-belly dish that seemed to have no artichokes (that is not to say it wasn't fairly good anyway!) and the banana pudding.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMUpscale eleganceWe visited Restaurant August as a treat during a trip to New Orleans for work. It did not disappoint. From the amuse bouche (creamed cauliflower presented in an eggshell) to the lagniappe (chocolate truffles and homemade pralines), the food was beautiful, delicious, and elegant. Our party of four tried a variety of items from the small, carefully chosen lunch menu. All were delicious: fish, soft-shell crab, Mahi Mahi, and "risotto" made from faro. Make sure to save room for the dessert, including banana pudding and goat cheese cheesecake.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMDelivers to high expectationsWe had high expectations and August delivered. The service was outstanding--we did the tasting menus and every course was paced by our progress, not the restaurant's needs. The 5 course menu was just as good as we expected, and the 4 course vegetarian menu even better! The wine pairings were perfect for each as well. In a city with amazing food it's hard to justify the prices at some of the big name/high end restaurants, but our experience made this money well spent.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't have been betterAmazing food, service and ambience. The twenty dollar 3-course prix fixe lunch has to be one of the greatest deals on the planet. The Trout Amandine, not on the prix fixe menu, was also a standout.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA mustAugust lived up to its reputation, for creative phenomenal food. Absolutely one my top 3 dining experiences, ever! Had the chefs prefixe menu and love every single element. Will remember this for a long time!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI went here on May 18th forI went here on May 18th for dinner and this was the best meal I had in New Orleans. Everything was PHENOMENAL! We shared the fried oysters, foie gras three ways, soft shell crab (the best I've ever had), lamb, gnocchi, seasonal vegetables. The foie gras was actually prepared cold and I asked them to sear which they did. The space is very romantic and intimate, the servers take great pride in the food and are extremely knowledgeable about any and all local foods. I asked why there weren't raw oyster dishes on the menu and my server explained to me that it was not oyster season but crawfish season and explained the seasonal nature of their menu. From beginning to end the service and food and experience were fabulous. I highly recommend.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMChef's menu was spectacularIf you go, splurge and try the chef's tasting menu with wine, it costs around $150 but it was worth every cent; rivaled meals I've had in the best restaurants in Paris and New York .5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the restaurant IThis was the restaurant I really wanted to visit on our first NOLA visit. We enjoyed the two degustations with wine pairings and every dish was tasty and beautifully presented. Neither of us are vegetarians but we both found we enjoyed the vegetarian meal a little bit more. Thank you for providing a memorable and eye opening food experience!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Meal of our New Orleans VisitWe started with the crawfish and beet salad and the gnocchi with blue crab, both perfectly balanced and delightful. My husband had the berkshire pork, delicious, and I the soft shell crab with bacon and sweat pea custard, perfection!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treatThis has become our go to spot for important family celebrations in New Orleans. The food is always interesting and delicious, and I appreciate the opportunity to support a chef who invests himself in the community. Great place!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMReally excellent. Our firstReally excellent. Our first time there. Will definitely return.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Meal I've Ever HadI've eaten at the all most expensive restaurants in Memphis, and none of them hold a candle to August. John Besh is a world-class chef. We loved this meal so much we went to Lüke a couple days later.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNever DisappointedAugust is consistent high quality every time. It is a must go when we are in NOLA.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood fantastic. ExpensiveFood fantastic. Expensive and noisy. Great service5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentPossibly one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Knocked this one out of the park!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTHE FOODthe food is unbelievably delicious, the restaurant beautiful, the service very good!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAcadiana foodieThe trout amandine was the best dish I have had in New Orleans. Each course was perfection.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMaward winnerI had dined here 2 years ago and had a fabulous experience. We were celebrating an award received by one of our doctors earlier that day. Although we had made a reservation for 4, the restaurant was very accommodating and we were able to increase the reservation to 5 people without a hassle. We dined in one of the smaller rooms -- actually the same room I had dined in on my previous visit -- and everything was perfect. Charming atmosphere and impeccable service!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in New OrleansGreat experience!. Every dish was innovative with delicate flavor combinations. The presentation was beautiful but not pretentious. We were too full for desserts, but the complementary pralines hit the spot. My husband had the vegetarian tasting menu and was pleased with the variety and originality, especially the stuffed squash blossoms. I started with gnocchi with black truffles (yep, REAL shavings and a generous amount at that!) and crab in a light cream sauce. The potato gnocchi was the lightest I have ever experienced and I always try the gnocchi when offered. Wine list was excellent.
We went at about 7:30 which was perfect; it did start to get a bit noisy by about 9:30.
Staff was great - every one was very friendly and most helpful5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOne Ecstasy after Another!Every mouthful was close-my-eyes-OMG-rapturous – just like my first visit. The amuse bouche (much more than a single mouthful) began the evening’s bliss with an egg shell full of the most delicate and flavor-filled, three-layered treat. Gnocci followed, more tender than the most delicate pasta you’ve ever eaten, and enveloped in a delicious black truffle cream topped with blue crab – I never wanted this dish to end! Pacific sablefish and tri-part duck for dinner, and goats milk cheesecake for dessert – every bite outstanding. Service was thoroughly attentive, knowledgeable, and very pleasant without ever interrupting our conversation. The dining room is charming, quiet, and an excellent ‘wrapping’ for the spectacular food and service!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe thoroughly enjoyed ourWe thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at August. The food was fantastic. We had a great waiter who was attentive but not hovering at the table. The wine list was very good. A great restaurant and wish that I lived in New Orleans to frequent the restaurant on a regular basis.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding ExperienceThe title says it all, outstanding food, service, menu and ambiance. Question about the menu were answered without hesitation and accurately. Service was attentive, not overboard. Food excellent, the menu had great selections. Wonderful experience. I, definetly return when I next visit N.O.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA winner!I went here with my wife and another couple after JazzFest Sunday and it was outstanding. I dine out a lot at various price points and can honestly say this was worth it. The only drawback was we couldn't get in until 9.30 but they were punctual when we arrived on time and many more tables got filled after we were seated. Service, food, everything....all top notch!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA sensorial delight to anyoneA sensorial delight to anyone with a sophisticated and discriminating palate. So accommodating to dietary restrictions and all with a smile and incredible service.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
