Opened in October 2001 with native John Besh at the helm, Restaurant August is the only restaurant to be awarded a perfect "5 Bean" score from The Times-Picayune in the past two years. Diner Reviews
  • "Everything you'd expect and more of the food, drinks, and service."

  • "We nervously inquired about our reservation at the hostess station because we weren't dressed to the nines like the rest of the clientele that we'd seen in the window. The hostess didn't bat an eyelash, and we were seated right away. What followed was an evening of great food, great wine and superb service. If you can only splurge at one place while you're in NOLA, Restaurant August is totally worth it. "

  • "From NYC; this is one of the best in America! Several visits over the years but missed last year (due to illness). The menu has changed and still fantastic food, flavors and service. Although, our main waitress was a little "chatty" we got over it - the food is some delicious is more than made up for it. If you visit NOLA and desire a special night out - this is THE place! :-)"

  • "As always the pre frix lunch at August is a treat. Excellent flavors and interesting food combinations. Decadent desserts. Rolls were the only miscue and not up to August standards. "

  • "Beautiful setting, and amazing, fantastic food. Service was adequate but needs some improvement. Not friendly or polished, and not as good as you get at other N.O. restaurants of the same caliber or what you expect at a restaurant of this caliber. Which was disappointing because otherwise it was an amazing experience. "

  • "From the very first bite, an intricate amuse bouche that came in an egg she'll and had several layers of texture and flavor to the very final bite if a dessert that was a party for the eyes and tastes, sinner was amazing. Excellence and beyond. The food was delicate and bold and complex and surprising and just delicious. Every single dish we ordered and every bite of every dish. Beautiful presentation. And the service was perfect -literally flawless. Spectacular evening. "

  • "We were very pleased to be able to come back here again and introduce friends to it. Betweenus all, we had the beet salad, fois gras, snapper, pork, and scallops. All were excellent."

  • "From the time we were greeted at the door until we left we were in love with this restaurant. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and delicious. Our appetizers were beautifully executed and not a single ingredient on the plate was neglected or added as an afterthought, every component was perfectly seasoned and had a specific purpose. Our main entrees were very nearly magical. A delicate smoky flavor permeated my steak and the scallops were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Dessert was phenomenal. The banana pudding was astounding and the lemon tart was divine. The service was impeccable. They were warm, friendly, and left us wanting for nothing. Overall, we haven't been this pleased with a restaurant in quite some time. "

  • "We have visited New Orleans six successive Aprils, mainly for the French Quarter Festival, but also to sample the world-class restaurants, which I rate above my dining experiences in such cities as San Francisco (where I lived for five years), and London, my current residence (of 33 years). We had intended to try August for several years and this year were finally successful in getting a booking when we were free. It matched all our expectations in every respect, and we shall be returning."

  • "This is a great restaurant for any special occasion while still being relaxed enough for a great night out. The cocktails were amazing. The food was absolutely delicious. The gnocchi was perfect and the only complaint about the scallops and pork belly entree is that I wanted more. The only real complaint is the lighting is a little lacking. I prefer more lighting while eating but overall a wonderful experience."

  • "We dined at August to celebrate my husband's birthday. It did not disappoint. Every dish was delightful and our server was wonderful. It did get a bit noisy as the room became more crowded. I highly recommend. "

  • "This was our first visit here. We were put at a table right at the entrance of the dining room. When the outside door opened there was a rush of air on my back. Also there a constant parade of staff and customers by our table because of our location. I asked to move. There was an open table in the rear dining room and one next to the window. I was told we couldn't move. The empty tables were shortly filled. The waitress said "She tried". I the $55 dollar special beef. It was tough. Finally reacting to my unhappiness, we were offered free desert. The banana pudding was absolutely out of this world. Excellent. What bothers me is that I feel I was lied to. It wasn't worth it to them to figure out how to make me satisfied. I wont be back."

  • "We had a delicious meal. All of the food was excellent. The portion sizes are just right for a multiple course meal. We ordered ala carte, but had appetizer, entree and dessert and all was fantastic."

  • "Every bite was different and each ingredient could be tasted, even though they also came together for a fabulous bite. Really one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at and the service was unsurpassed."

  • "While in town for the French Quarter Fest, we went to August for an early dinner. The staff was exceptional - at greeting, at knowledge of the wines and food, at serving. They were patient with our vacillations on selections because frankly, everything on the menu sounded like food we would love. Our dishes included the heirloom beet salad with bacon, quail eggs, blue crab meat and arugula; the chop salad which sounds like "meh" but which was absolutely gorgeous with many colors, textures and tastes; flash fried trout Ponchartraine and the Chapapeela Farms duckling; banana pudding and dark chocolate praline cheesecake. The portions were perfect - not petit but certainly not large. I'm running out of space, but I suggest that you run to Aug."

  • "Except for the difficulty getting a reservation, our experience was perfect! The food was fabulous - so inventive and creative. My husband had the Degustation menu and I had the Vegetarian tasting. Both were incredibly good . Wine pairings were wonderful. We had pig tail and turnips, oxtail, tripe and spaghetti, monkfish. None of those items would be something I would order, but tasting them was such an experience and all were delicious! Beautiful setting, attentive staff, delicious food!"

  • "We learned of John Besh on Food Network and wanted to visit one of his Restaurants. We picked August our last trip two years ago and it had such an pact, we picked it again this time. We were certainly not disappointed, as indicated by our ratings. We pick a selection ( appetizer included ) admire the presentation and savor the dish. A very well run restaurant . ☺️"

  • "Very good but not excellent this time. Brûléed goat cheese appetizer was amazing. John Dory entree was technically very good but not unusual or outstanding and a bit under seasoned."

  • "I eat here every year or so when in New Orleans. The menu continues to evolve and only gets better. Four of us had a variety of dishes and we found them all to be terrific."

  • "The waiter was extremely attentive and very knowledgeable about the preparation of every dish we asked about. My wife had the chop salad, fresh greens which seemed like a veggie ceviche since they were tender from the citrus vinaigrette. I had the potato gnocchi which blended nicely with the lump crab. For the main course, my wife had the scallops, two side-by-side a pork belly, so tender that it could've been taken for a scallop, but for the light pork flavor; the scallops were done to perfection, with an ever so slight pink in the center of each. My trout Pontchartrain was uniquely prepared; bread rolled seasoned and toasted topped the generous portion of the filet and topped with truffles."

  • "I am a foodie. I love to cook and I've seen Chef John Besh many times on TV. When planning a business trip to New Orleans, I made sure to include a visit to Restaurant August. I was not disappointed. My husband and I are really into wine and had fun making choices from the extensive wine list. We started with the beet salad. The combination of flavors was amazing in combining the greens with red and golden beets, blue crab, and bacon. We each had different fish entrees. Once again, great favors and textures. Desserts were just okay."

  • "This dining experience was the highlight of our recent trip to NOLA. The prix-fix menu w/wine pairings was adventurous and delightful. Service here is classy but friendly. There are lovely little "extra's", like 2 amuse-bouche's and a delectable pre-dessert and post-dessert truffles. What a special dining experience!"

  • "My friend now calls $20 bills "Besh Bucks." Wonderfully apportioned dining rooms, attentive staff, delicious offerings from the kitchen (including complimentary delights) made our experience a pleasant one. Glad to have made it a can't miss destination while in NOLA."

  • "We were party of four. Amongst our party one had trout, another had scallops with pork belly, two had market veggies salad and one also had gnocchi with crab and truffle. All enjoyed their food which was fresh and beautifully presented. The salad was so colorful and must have had at least 8 to 10 different type of veggies. The service was also great. Unfortunately we are not into wine but seemed like they are known for their wine pairing menus as well."

  • "My husband and I went to New Orleans on vacation. This was our third trip to New Orleans and as foodies, this restaurant has been on our list for a while now. This was the best meal we have ever eaten in New Orleans. The food was superb, the service was on-point and the ambiance was romantic. We will definitely return anytime we are in the city."

  • "The food was creative, upscale with the desired NOLA twist. Best dishes for me were the amuse bouche, the market chop (every vegetable was cooked to perfection,) and the foie gras appetizer. The entrees would have been outstanding, but were too salty for my taste. As matter of fact, I found an abundance of salt in almost every meal, expensive and cheap, during my visit to New Orleans. The service was attentive, not obtrusive. The servers went above and beyond to answer questions or meet your needs."

  • "As a present, my husband bought plane tickets and made a reservation at August. We arrived early and were promptly seated. Beautifully restored building with a rich, warm feel. Staff was very attentive, not intrusive. Complimentary amuse bouche was nice. Apps were very good. Gnocchi & the beet salad were excellent. Main courses were good. I had the duckling and hubby had the ponchatrain. Wish mine had a bit more of the corn. Duck was a bit chewy. Trout was flavorful. Portions were good. Dessert was also good. The lemon soufflé was really nice - ice cream was too gingery for me. Hubby's financier was good. Caramel was excellent. We really enjoyed the little praline at the end of the meal. Wish it had been a dessert option in some form."

  • "I found Restaurant August online. we picked it because of all of the great reviews it had, we went there for our Honeymoon dinner and it was the perfect choice. The salad has all these different flavors that blended together so wonderfully, buttery Brussel sprouts with a slightly pickled carrot. Amazing. I had the roast duckling and I cannot use the word perfect too many times in this review. It was blackened on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. for desert we had the lemon souffle, tart and sweet, blended, yes, perfectly."

  • "The tasting menu with wine pairings was a wonderful adventure. Unique ingredients with great and interesting flavors were abundant. Hands down this was the best restaurant my group of out-of-towners (foodies) dined at. Would definitely go back to enjoy another incredible creation."

  • "Apparently I placed a note when reserving on Open Table 6 weeks prior. I must have told them it was my wife's birthday (but I forgot that I did that many weeks prior) As dinner was in progress, I was thinking of escaping to tell them to dress a dessert for her, but didn't They must have gotten the note from months ago because the dessert had a candle & ' Happy Birthday ' in chocolate sauce Love this place for making me look like I was on top of it. (Even though I clearly wasn't) Great ambiance"

  • "Our 7:45 reservation time came and went, the previous seating stayed through 8:15 at least. it appeared to be slow turnover across the 1st seating and the 2nd seating happened at once and overwhelmed the service. The usual fall out occurred, complicated by the fact there was no 3rd seating of our table and there were to the other 2 tables seated at the same time. Was a bummer being seated late and then being last on the attention list. Service was pleasant but harried and rushed. 9:00 before first bit of food hit the table. Communication wasn't great, the somm brought a bottle of red burgundy vs the white burgundy from the same producer. Head waiter caught it. Food was very very good across the courses."
