Diner Reviews
  • "We always look forward to a great meal at Roy's. Unfortunately, we were a little disappointed this time. We opted for some salads and starters, including a very nice roll and a disappointing sashimi platter. The fish on the sashimi platter frankly did not seem all that fresh. Perhaps we are jaded by the always-wonderfully fresh fish at the Roy's restaurants in Hawaii."

  • "Elegant but relaxed fine dining. Excellent and inventive food"

  • "I was looking forward to my upcoming lunch with 4 friends so much. I had such good memories of eating here before. This time, my lunch was delicious but my friends' salads were sub par. The service was spotty and non attentive. Surprising because we were one of the few tables dining. In the past the food was excellent as well as the service."

  • "They gave us a window table with a panoramic view of the hills and we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and beautiful music. The service was extraordinarily attentive and they sent complimentary champagne to our table to help us celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The fish of the day with truffles was memorably delicious. The daily soup was mushroom and it was so tasty and hearty, I could have easily made a meal of it. The only minor disappointment was the fruit salad since it was mostly a green salad with only a garnish of fruit. My boyfriend was very pleased with the bouillabaisse. For a romantic evening, come here at sunset and then see the galleries for fine dining and art together."

  • "View is amazing, if you get a good table, which we did. Lunch was good, had heirloom tomato salad, as starter very good. Beautiful presentation. Service was spotty. Very slow service from our server, the bus boy made up for the lag in time being approached. He was gracious & realized we ere being ignored. Setting is lovely."

  • "The hostesses were wonderful, so right away, our party felt welcome and at home. The waiter, Lawerence, was fine, but lacked basic knowledge as to ingredients, could not specify garnishes, never asked our party if we wanted coffee even though we had ordered dessert... He was amiable, just not at all thorough. The bus boys collected all plates from one position rather than going to each person, which was awkward. The food was good. I had read rave reviews but don't agree with 5 stars. The chef has a flair, however, for my taste, he chose cream as a base far too often. I would not bother with dessert again. Actually, I would order a nice wine, one appetizer & get back to the galleries. Views from our window table were superb."

  • "This restaurant is a great way to take a break from seeing the art at the Getty. The food was fantastic with a variety of chooses and the service was great. I use a wheelchair and the access was easy and seating was great as there was space behind me. It is so refreshing to have the wheelchair access - I will use this restaurant when ever I visit the Getty. This restaurant is at the Getty Museum and you need to pay for parking and take the tram from the parking lot so it is really part of a day trip to the Getty."

  • "Wow, what can be said except dinner was fantastic! We arrived early to enjoy the views and gardens at Getty Center, the. Went to dinner. The service was excellent, food was exceptional. The menu has nice variety. Octopus salad was delicious and Bouillabaisse was equally good. Pork cheeks were melt-in-your-mouth tender! Only complaint was the noise levels were moderate despite not being very crowded. Tables were rather close so it felt like we were eves dropping on people next to us (who were having a quite personal conversation!) But otherwise, it was a great experience and would go again. Price was fairly reasonable for level of sophistication and elegance."

  • "I brought a friend for her birthday. I had to ask twice for bread to be brought to our table even though it appeared to be brought automatically to all of the other tables around us. We ordered cocktails; these were delivered during our first course rather than prior. The eggs were over-cooked on my eggs benedict with crab cakes. We had the feeling that we were being overlooked in favor of tables with couples. The server did bring a lovely sorbet and fruit dish to recognize my friend's special occasion. The mushroom soup and halibut courses were very tasty."

  • " The ambience is excellent. The service was lacking. Waiter did not return to ask about our food. Although the uniqueness of the selections was good, some of the preparations were much too salty, especially the duck."

  • "My wife & I with another couple had brunch at the Restaurant in the Getty Center. The service was very good, the menu was appetizing, tho a bit limited. The wine list was good but the view was outstanding! We sat at an outside table & had a wide view of the surrounding hills & ocean. Fine Art, good food & wine & a view that is tough to beat! We'll be going there again soon - maybe for sunset!"

  • "we were going to the Museum in the afternoon so decided to make a dinner reservation. The food was wonderful. Extremely tastey and well done. Its worth going up there just for dinner, even if you don't go into the museum"

  • "The Getty-amazing and hosting dinner at the restaurant/the food was fair, the lamb chops great but to put bacon with scallops overwhelms the scallops and the scallops were not properly cooked. Every dish including appetizers had pea tendrils which are indeed lovely but every dish is a bit much like it was the only vegie they had to offer. However, the service was perfect absolutely outstanding but they need a new chef."

  • "Having lunch in this quiet and peaceful restaurant enhanced our visit to the Getty Centre. It made a very pleasurable break to our day. Food and service were excellent. Modern table settings - white linen and black napkins. Probably the best lunch during our 3 week driving tour of California."

  • "Lunch: Beef Carpaccio for starter and it is a good portion for two people to share, but I can’t find it anywhere on the online menu. The short ribs entre is a large portion, but the polenta is a bit much. The polenta is under a layer of leafy greens, and the large portion of tender short ribs is placed on top, topped with sweet glaze. The glazed is not overpowering and does not take away from the taste of each ingredient. The polenta needs improvement. Any pinot noir will do. It is easy to spend over $100/lunch/2p, recommend for special occasions only. But, The Getty museum is a great activity for $15 overall. The wait staff needs improvement with timing (i.e., utensils and when to bring the food), but knowledgeable and courteous."

  • "We really enjoyed our experience. The food was fantastic! Not only delightful to taste, but beautiful to gaze at. My request for gluten free options was catered for with care. We had a leisurely lunch, with no sense that we had to move on. The service was attentive but not intrusive."

  • "Something dreadful seems to have happened to the Restaurant's food. This used to be a great place to lunch; but now much of what's served is of poor quality (dried out chicken) or clumsily prepared (soggy salads, overly breaded crab-cakes) It's a pity, because the Getty is otherwise a delight -- and the Restaurant was a much-anticipated treat. Someone has really dropped the ball here."

  • "We had the best exprience at the Restaurant at the Getty Center. Besides the beauty of the room and views, our server, Lawrence, was attentive, friendly and made our meal most enjoyable. The food was fantastic. I had the chicken which was the most flavorful, moist chicken I've had. I almost never order chicken at restaurants but will most certainly come back for it at The Getty. My wife had the Halibut and our daughter had the pea risotto. Both were also delicious and worthy of a top rated restaurant. In fact, we've been to Hatfields, A.O.C. and other top rated restaurants in Los Angeles and the Restaurant at the Getty Center tops them all."

  • "Problems with the off ramp and in the parking garage (signs saying parking straight ahead which led to the exit and required a U-turn against on coming traffic) aided us in being 15 minutes late for our reservation. Fortunately we were seated right away but the request for a window was not even discussed. The restaurant was busy but we were waited on in a timely manner. The food as usual was good. Paying the bill was shaky as the waiter never returned but that was ok as we managed to gather the $175 in cash leaving it on the table. I have always liked this restaurant when we visit the Getty. Two of the ladies with us were new to the restaurant they enjoyed it and tow of us returning knew it would be a treat. Pricey but not unexpected."

  • "This was my first time dining at the Getty Center Restaurant. I loved it. I took my mom there for her birthday lunch. It was a wonderful experience. Everyone from the hostess to the server to the busser were all very helpful and accommodating. The food was great, the service was great and the views were amazing. I will definitely be back."

  • "Stunning table decor of white table cloth, white dishes, white flower pot (with succulent) and black napkins. Long thin breadsticks, small warm multigrain rolls (unsalted butter) and kale chips were a nice touch. The Grilled Octopus was outstanding. Interesting wall decor by California Artist Alexis Smith. Panoramic views."

  • "Truly a unique experience with, not only outstanding gourmet dining, but excellent customer service. From all aspects, including arrival through departure, the staff was professional, attentive, and friendly. This type of service, while rare in today's dining world, simply adds to the ambiance and culinary experience. Highly recommended. It was our 40th wedding anniversary and they surprised us with a special custom made dessert with Happy Anniversary spelled in chocolate. An over the top experience! Thank you, Getty Restaurant!!"

  • "We booked this restaurant way ahead to ensure we could experience it during our Getty Museum visit. Lunch at the restaurant made a wonderful start. Great setting, not noisy, complimented by very good service and food. This made the day for us!"

  • "This is not the first time I have eaten here. Every time has been great and this was no different. We all shared the rabbit pate. It was perfect. Not too greasy on the thick toast. The preserves were super on it. Two of us had the Cob Salad as main coarse. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best salad I have ever had. The dressing blended incredibly well with the cut fruit. The large chunks of tart blue cheese provided a great flavor counterpoint. One of our party got the bouillabaisse. It was in a saffron sauce made spicy by chorizo and special using citrus elements. The shell fish was super and plentiful. The waiter was witty and present at the right times and the staff was efficient. We were all in heaven!!"

  • "We both had cobb salads. They were plentiful and delicious. Enjoyed the different kinds of bread sticks and crackers. We had ice cream with cookies and berries, which we liked."

  • "This is one of life's pleasant surprises, not unlike the Members Restaurant at the NYC Met. It is a great add-on to touring the Getty exhibits. Excellent food and service and we got a semi-private table at the intersection of two windows (a request for a window table if possible). My wife thanks you as well."

  • "We went to the Getty for dinner to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The food, ambiance, and environment are terrific. However, poor service tarnished the evening. It took about 30 minutes for someone to take our cocktail order, at which time the waiter took both our drink order and our food order. As a result, our appetizers were served before our drinks were served. What should have been a relaxed, enjoyable evening became rushed. I complained to the Maitre'D, so we finally got our cocktails half way through the appetizers. Some minor accommodation from the restaurant ( a complimentary dessert, etc.) would have been nice, but none was offered."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The food here is pretty good but the kitchen and waiters need some attention. The mashed potatoes that came with my chicken were ice cold and had to be sent back. After that the dinner was fine. The strawberry-rhubarb tart was OK but not as good as in many places. We were engaged in a very interesting, meaningful conversation but our waiter kept interrupting us, rudely we thought, to ask "if everything is alright" and to start giving us a run-down on the ingredients in our sauces!!! We finally had to tell him to leave us alone and not intrude into our conversation. What is going on with waiter in several restaurants that they think THEY are part of our parties? Finally, the noise was excruciating and we left early."
