Diner Reviews
  • "My 1st visit to the Getty, and lunch was a second wonderful experience. The food and wine were delicious. Our waiter, Siso, was great. Thx!"

  • "The restaurant has a great view. The bouillabaisse was exceptional. The salad, bread and dessert however left much to be desired. This based on many prior visits where their quality matched that of the bouillabaisse. You had the feeling they were cutting back. I find no problem with cutting back on portions ...but think it is a mistake to cut back on quality. The waiter was less than attentive and the birthday lunch for my friend ended with someone adding ice tea to my soda. Which came as a shock to the taste buds ... but wasn't worth mentioning since we were about to leave."

  • "The Restaurant at the Getty Center.... good service, scenic view of the Santa Monica Mountains northwest of LA and super great food!!!"

  • "They got all right at the Restaurant at the Getty Center. I love to bring friends and family here for the first time. Everyone has been blown away by the food, service and the scenery. Absolutely the best place to take out-of-towners for lunch or brunch. I love the bouillabaisse. It is a unique creation of a classic dish in a nontraditional way. WOW."

  • "My friends and I met here for Sunday brunch (before touring an exhibit) and we all were very happy with the dining experience. The food was great, service was very good and friendly, and the ambience and views were perfect. Highly recommend for a special occasion but would even be good for a casual get-together with friends."

  • "My smoked tomato and vege gnocchi was wonderful! My date said that his short ribs were delicious. It was romantic in the late evening after viewing the wonderful art at the museum."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "My husband and I have been coming here about 2 times a year for at least 7 years, maybe more. The last few years we have included our (now) 20 year old vegetarian grand-daughter. For the first time, she was offered an interesting entrée, the gnocchi with roasted vegetables (previous years' fetucine alfredo/polenta was okay but not very exciting. My husband & I had the prix fixe "Ensor" special menu and it was outstanding! We were trying to find something to compare the meal to, and finally realized that it was the best food we have had since our KUSC Opera/gourmet tour of Northern Italy. Bravo!"

  • "A trip to the Getty is always a treat. Dining at the Museum's beautiful restaurant just enhances the experience. It's a bit on the pricey side but the food (highly recommend either the lobster risotto or the bouillabaisse) is outstanding. Service is also reliably excellent."

  • "Wish the menu had a few more basic American , but elegant choices. We both had trouble at first finding something to eat, but we did enjoy what we selected."

  • "Amazing food not only tasted delicious but the presentation was fabulous! We sat outside with a wonderful view of the ocean. Gorgeous."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Really enjoyed the view at this incredible vista restaurant with jetliner views of the city clear to the ocean. Tried the prix fixe lunch and was gently disappointed with bland, muddled and confused flavors. While the appetizer salad of heirloom tomato and crab served on a cross section of a wood tree plank seemed interesting visually, the flavors weren't there. The Pork cheeks entree was cooked perfectly but again a confused beurre blanc was sadly disappointing. Even the peach desert wasn't sweet. They should have better and livelier menu. Also the Octopus appetizer was undercooked, and muddled with unnecessary extras. The highlight was the breadstick basket. Great selection of parmesan coated and herb coated flat breadsticks."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "The food was very good, as usual; not at all like a museum restaurant. Service was fine except failing to bring bread until late in meal AND serving water without a request despite a note on the menu about water conservation. But, the weather was great, virtually no wind and the outside was not open. What a waste!"
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "Very pretentious mediocre to poor cuisine. Arid feeling. Too cold. Overpriced cafeteria food with view."

  • "Once again, we LOVED our food and experience at The Restaurant! Our server, Dylan, made our evening perfect. He was friendly, attentive and could not have been more perfect. We took friends out to celebrate their engagement and had a wonderful time. The corn soup and the burrata appetizers were amazing. The chicken and halibut main courses were also fantastic. We only wish they were open more evenings."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Food was very good although would have preferred it to be served hotter. It was just a little above luke warm. Coffee was also luke warm. Restaurant was not full and service was very slow. I would have given the Food 4 stars had it been hotter."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Who would expect a first class restaurant in a museum? LA has one here. The food was excellent, service professional and the view is outstanding. Best of all it was quiet so you could actually talk to everyone at your table. Since admission to the museum is free, this is actually a wonderful place to go for a meal, even if you just want to wander about the grounds for a little while."

  • "It did take quite a while for our food to be served. Noticed neighboring tables (who arrived after us) were served before us. But our food was warm and delicious."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "The hostess greeted us in a friendly manner and got us seated right away. Our server was warm and friendly and had a smile on her face during the entire service. The young man who brought us our water and bread basket was friendly and offered suggestions for dessert (which we did order). The gentleman who brought us our food was friendly and professional. The entire experience was really wonderful. We'll be back!"

  • "The staff couldn't have been nicer. The view at sunset was breathe taking. Food, outstanding."

  • "We always look forward to a great meal at Roy's. Unfortunately, we were a little disappointed this time. We opted for some salads and starters, including a very nice roll and a disappointing sashimi platter. The fish on the sashimi platter frankly did not seem all that fresh. Perhaps we are jaded by the always-wonderfully fresh fish at the Roy's restaurants in Hawaii."

  • "The hostesses were wonderful, so right away, our party felt welcome and at home. The waiter, Lawerence, was fine, but lacked basic knowledge as to ingredients, could not specify garnishes, never asked our party if we wanted coffee even though we had ordered dessert... He was amiable, just not at all thorough. The bus boys collected all plates from one position rather than going to each person, which was awkward. The food was good. I had read rave reviews but don't agree with 5 stars. The chef has a flair, however, for my taste, he chose cream as a base far too often. I would not bother with dessert again. Actually, I would order a nice wine, one appetizer & get back to the galleries. Views from our window table were superb."
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "View is amazing, if you get a good table, which we did. Lunch was good, had heirloom tomato salad, as starter very good. Beautiful presentation. Service was spotty. Very slow service from our server, the bus boy made up for the lag in time being approached. He was gracious & realized we ere being ignored. Setting is lovely."

  • "Elegant but relaxed fine dining. Excellent and inventive food"

  • "This restaurant is a great way to take a break from seeing the art at the Getty. The food was fantastic with a variety of chooses and the service was great. I use a wheelchair and the access was easy and seating was great as there was space behind me. It is so refreshing to have the wheelchair access - I will use this restaurant when ever I visit the Getty. This restaurant is at the Getty Museum and you need to pay for parking and take the tram from the parking lot so it is really part of a day trip to the Getty."

  • "Setting and food are always great. Our server Louie was excellent!"

  • "I brought a friend for her birthday. I had to ask twice for bread to be brought to our table even though it appeared to be brought automatically to all of the other tables around us. We ordered cocktails; these were delivered during our first course rather than prior. The eggs were over-cooked on my eggs benedict with crab cakes. We had the feeling that we were being overlooked in favor of tables with couples. The server did bring a lovely sorbet and fruit dish to recognize my friend's special occasion. The mushroom soup and halibut courses were very tasty."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • " The ambience is excellent. The service was lacking. Waiter did not return to ask about our food. Although the uniqueness of the selections was good, some of the preparations were much too salty, especially the duck."

  • "Went here for our anniversary. Good service, great cheese plate, delicious steak and lamb. Good California wine list. Watched the sun set during dessert."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "They gave us a window table with a panoramic view of the hills and we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and beautiful music. The service was extraordinarily attentive and they sent complimentary champagne to our table to help us celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The fish of the day with truffles was memorably delicious. The daily soup was mushroom and it was so tasty and hearty, I could have easily made a meal of it. The only minor disappointment was the fruit salad since it was mostly a green salad with only a garnish of fruit. My boyfriend was very pleased with the bouillabaisse. For a romantic evening, come here at sunset and then see the galleries for fine dining and art together."

  • "Wow, what can be said except dinner was fantastic! We arrived early to enjoy the views and gardens at Getty Center, the. Went to dinner. The service was excellent, food was exceptional. The menu has nice variety. Octopus salad was delicious and Bouillabaisse was equally good. Pork cheeks were melt-in-your-mouth tender! Only complaint was the noise levels were moderate despite not being very crowded. Tables were rather close so it felt like we were eves dropping on people next to us (who were having a quite personal conversation!) But otherwise, it was a great experience and would go again. Price was fairly reasonable for level of sophistication and elegance."

  • "Love this place but disappointed with our last visit Food was good but not on the high level we have been used to there Service was good but not enough To make up for the visit"

  • "I was looking forward to my upcoming lunch with 4 friends so much. I had such good memories of eating here before. This time, my lunch was delicious but my friends' salads were sub par. The service was spotty and non attentive. Surprising because we were one of the few tables dining. In the past the food was excellent as well as the service."

  • "My wife & I with another couple had brunch at the Restaurant in the Getty Center. The service was very good, the menu was appetizing, tho a bit limited. The wine list was good but the view was outstanding! We sat at an outside table & had a wide view of the surrounding hills & ocean. Fine Art, good food & wine & a view that is tough to beat! We'll be going there again soon - maybe for sunset!"

  • "we were going to the Museum in the afternoon so decided to make a dinner reservation. The food was wonderful. Extremely tastey and well done. Its worth going up there just for dinner, even if you don't go into the museum"

  • "Beautiful restaurant with delicious food. Scallops were perfectly done. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion. Servers were very attentive."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "The Getty-amazing and hosting dinner at the restaurant/the food was fair, the lamb chops great but to put bacon with scallops overwhelms the scallops and the scallops were not properly cooked. Every dish including appetizers had pea tendrils which are indeed lovely but every dish is a bit much like it was the only vegie they had to offer. However, the service was perfect absolutely outstanding but they need a new chef."

  • "Lunch: Beef Carpaccio for starter and it is a good portion for two people to share, but I can’t find it anywhere on the online menu. The short ribs entre is a large portion, but the polenta is a bit much. The polenta is under a layer of leafy greens, and the large portion of tender short ribs is placed on top, topped with sweet glaze. The glazed is not overpowering and does not take away from the taste of each ingredient. The polenta needs improvement. Any pinot noir will do. It is easy to spend over $100/lunch/2p, recommend for special occasions only. But, The Getty museum is a great activity for $15 overall. The wait staff needs improvement with timing (i.e., utensils and when to bring the food), but knowledgeable and courteous."

  • "We really enjoyed our experience. The food was fantastic! Not only delightful to taste, but beautiful to gaze at. My request for gluten free options was catered for with care. We had a leisurely lunch, with no sense that we had to move on. The service was attentive but not intrusive."
