A word from Restaurant at Black Bear Inn
The Restaurant at Black Bear Inn opened to the public in December 2010, and had quickly become a local treasure. Chef Alex was committed to the preparation of each dish with precision, skill, and attention to detail. He demanded fresh ingredients of the finest quality. Organic and local products provided for enticing and seasonal offerings. This level of appreciation represented an outstanding devotion to the culinary arts. Sublime flavors were apparent in every delectable aspect of Chef Alex's menu. We had proudly served a growing selection of distinctive wines from local regions such as the Sierra Foothills, Amador County, and Napa Valley. Restaurant guests were welcome to bring a special bottle of wine for the occasion, with a $20 corkage fee per 750ml bottle. The Black Bear Inn was a peaceful setting... perfect for a romantic date, or a small gathering of friends. Kindly note, our kitchen will not provide a children's menu, ever.

A wonderful way to spend a leisurely, romantic dinner while in Tahoe. We will be returning next year and making this a part of our summer tradition. The service is outstanding and intimate. The "table is yours for the night". The food is interesting, delectable and made when you order. A lovely evening!

The Black Bear Inn provides a personal touch only a food junkie could appreciate. With such a personal "made to order" feel and a classic rustic tahoe cabin ambiance, this gem is not to be missed. Tahoe is special in itself. Why not step your game up and indulge in the finest Tahoe has to offer? The food selection and flavor pairing are of the highest quality. The Black Bear Inn is conveniently located on Ski Run Boulevard, just blocks from the beach. Whether it's the food or the wine list you're interested in, whether you are out on a date with that special person or just soaking it up solo, whether you are not as familiar with Tahoe or you've patronized everything from Apres Wine Company to the Chart House, Black Bear Inn always delivers.

This is a Bed and Breakfast but we only had dinner there. The large fireplace made it very cozy. Dinner and service was excellent, (beef wellington and dessert lemon tart). Menu may be a bit pricey but great for special occasions or not. If you get a chance, please check it out. You may want to call in advance as the menu changes.

This was a second visit. As before, the food is beautifully prepared with very fresh ingredients and the homemade bread is terrific too. Scallops and the pear salad were big winners. Service is extremely personal as there are only 5 tables here and no turnover for the evening; it remains like being cared for in someone's living room more than a typical restaurant. This is not a harried evening, in fact service can feel very slow if you are coming for 'a meal' rather than 'an evening'. Wine list not deep in all varietals but still interesting. Would return.

This "find" is inside a B&B. Seating is limited, but do go! The husband & wife team are fantastic. The food is original, the service is measured and slowly paced, so one has time to enjoy everything. They have taken some time to select both a food menu and a wine carte to compliment the menu. Don't miss it if you are in the Lake Tahoe area. And there is a nice fireplace in the room as well.

We were blown away by our experience at the Restaurant at the Black Bear Inn! Each course was perfectly presented and the flavors were so delicately balanced. Great wine list and professional service. The setting was the right mix of romantic ambiance yet great for a gathering also. We will definitely be back.

we had an extremely enjoyable experience for my boyfriends birthday. coming from out of town i did much research and was very pleased with my choice. quaint and rustic bed and breakfast with only 6 or so tables for dinner sitting near a beautiful fireplace, friendly yet noninvasive service and absolutely amazing food. the prices range from 25-50 for entree but the portions are generous. we had no complaints at all, couldn't have been a better night.

This wife and husband duo as waitress and chef were superb. Though we never got to meet the chef himself, he was well represented by his dishes and they were splendid. We started out with the salad and scallops. The scallops were placed over a bed of truffle based potato puree and it was one of the best dishes I have had in recent memory. For main courses we had the oven roasted chicken dish as well as the pink snapper. The portions were huge and we were unable to finish them though we really wanted to. Both were delicious though the chicken dish would have to take the honors. We had to skip dessert because we were so stuffed by that point in the meal. Highly recommended restaurant.

The restaurant at Black Bear Inn is a really gem! It's a small, intimate, cozy, and friendly place that feels like a gourmet chef is preparing food in your home. After ordering, we sipped our wine, as we relaxed in the comfy sofas by the fireplace. For appetizers, we ordered the salmon cakes and scallops - wow! Both were fresh, delicately seasoned, lightly grilled, and scrumptious! Oftentimes (even at high-end restaurants), the chefs will over-spice (read, over-salt) the food. Not at Black Bear Inn - each dish was delicately nuanced with its own flavors and an absolute delight to our palates. If you're in South Lake Tahoe, make it a point to have a delicious dinner at Black Bear Inn. You won't be sorry!

My husband and I had such an amazing dinner here, that we decided to come back for a second time! The chef updates the menu regularly, so we were able to try some new dishes. I found it difficult to choose something other than the seared diver scallops as an appetizer, but the smoked salmon fishcakes were really delicious as well. The server was excellent, very welcoming. Delicious food, great wine selection, a cozy ambiance...everything you need for a romantic dinner date.

We were really looking forward to this place. Arrived and took over 10 minutes to be greeted then they took us to the table. They proceeded with taking our order. I heard that they make everything fresh. Good, well fresh means waiting, and waiting some more. Everyone was waiting. People started getting up and enjoying their wines by the fireplace. Ok so at least it is a nice place. Well we waited some more and about 1.5 hours later we got our food. We did smell at one point a burnt smell before we got our food. Sure e ought my vegetables were burnt. They were very kind and deducted $5.00 off our bill and gave us a free dessert. Happy with that at least they tried.

We arrived in Lake tahoe a little underwhelmed by the town and ambiance. Our first goal is to find the best local chef and i think we definitely got one of the top. The scallops app was fabulous and my venison could not be more perfect. The house wine is a steal and fabulous, bottled under their own label. We recommend it highly.

It's unfair to characterize this unique place as a restaurant. This is more like dining in a creative, rustic, Tahoe-appropriate living room. There are only five tables, no evening turnover, and it has the opportunity to take one's port and coffee on the couch sitting in front of a magnificent river-rock fireplace. We could have had dessert there too if not for the fact that the fantastically-prepared dishes (pear-walnut salad, scallops, salmon, and pasta al funghi) were very generously proportioned. Wine list very fairly priced and substantial enough to pair with the number of entrees they have. Service is extremely personalized and pleasant. Absolutely worth a trip.

We ate here for Christmas and it was perfect. The menu was varied and festive (even though we all ordered the delicious and perfectly done Beef Wellington for our main course!) using organic and locally sourced ingredients. The dining room is in the Great Room with a roaring fire, antiques, a piano and a huge fir Christmas tree. They played beautiful Christmas music. There were comfy couches for an after dinner glass of port, coffee and dessert. There was even homemade peppermint bark for a snack! It was as close to a home-like setting as I could find in the South Lake Tahoe area. Thank you!!!

We had read that the food at Black Bear Inn was outstanding! We tried for a Friday night reservation, but having only eight tables they were fully committed. So, we reserved for Saturday evening. The entire experience was exceptional. The setting was in the dining room of a lovely bed and breakfast inn .The Inn was very upscale, well decorated and tastefully appropriate to the area. The 56 foot tall fireplace (really) was ablaze, the music was just perfect, the service was above excellent and the food was so obviously prepared by a chef who really knew food! Uber fresh comforting food with desert which was unrivaled in our experience. We are a bit particular(maybe even critical) of restaurants and loved this one.

The food was delicious but the process was quite slow and the service, although very pleasant, was hit-or-miss. Dinner took 2 1/2 hours, and we were not dawdling. It's possible that this is due to the fact that it's "restaurant week" in South Lake Tahoe and they weren't able to deal with having all their tables filled.
