A word from Restaurant Alma
Opened in 1999, Restaurant Alma is a casual fine dining restaurant, offering eclectic American cuisine and warm hospitality in a rustic historically preserved building. A high, open beam ceiling, exposed brick columns and concrete floors display the original space, while an open kitchen, banquette seating and gentle lighting contribute to an intimate and contemporary feel.

Alma is best known for sourcing the best quality seasonal ingredients available and features a high percentage of local and organic products. Our menu changes every six to eight weeks, offering both new and signature dishes. We feature both a three course tasting menu format, allowing the customer to select any three dishes from the menu for $50 and a la carte options.

Alma has been awarded 4 stars by the StarTribune and shares the #1 food ranking in ZAGAT for Minneapolis/St. Paul

Diner Reviews
  • "The service was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. The food was amazing. The ambiance was lively, but the noise level moderate, so we could actually hold a conversation. I will definitely be going back!"

  • "My husband and I went to Restaurant Alma for a birthday celebration. Service was impeccable--attentive, helpful, accommodating and consistent throughout the evening. We ordered the three-course tasting menu, which gave us a chance collectively to sample six items. The menu changes seasonally, but we especially enjoyed the Japanese-inspired salad, quail, duck and trout dishes. Other choices were worth trying, but not quite as developed. Alma is a really special place, creative and original, evocative of some of the charming neighborhood restaurants in the Bay Area. We will be back."

  • "It was our first time to Alma but surely not our last. Everything from the service to the food was fantastic. Each course better than the last; I just wish I had ordered my own dessert instead of deciding to share. Big mistake."

  • "We just enjoyed another wonderful dinner at Alma. The entrees were by far the best dishes of the night. The quail in the 2nd course was a little to difficult to eat. Nevertheless, we'd return. Pricing has gone up here though too (maybe in the last 6mo-1yr?)"

  • "Went here on a recommendation for my boyfriend's birthday....what a pleasant surprise everything was! Delicious food, worked with me to accommodate my (embarrassingly long) list of food allergies. Fantastic service, super personable but not overly attentive. Delicious wine, and the most succulent duck breast I've ever eaten. Only complaint is the ambiance, it's nothing to speak of, and with the high impact of the food, drink and service, a little sprucing up of the interior would make it 5 stars all around!"

  • "This is my new favorite restaurant in the twin cities! Everything about this restaurant was amazing."

  • "We have never had a dining experience like this ever. The food was so very different, but so very good. Our server described each entree (and you will need that to decide!) to a tee! I would give the food a five star rating, but the portion are a bit smaller than you might expect. Do not like large portions, but had three entrees and wasn't feeling full until after the forth (dessert). Look forward to going back again."

  • "Our meal at Restaurant Alma lived up to all the hype & wonderful reviews we'd read. The service was spot on - great timing with water, drinks & meals. As we lingered a half hour after we'd paid the bill & we never felt pressure to hurry up and vacate the table. You must try the octopus & rice it was amazing."

  • "First time at Alma and I only regret that it took us so long to try it. Service was fantastic, our server knew the menu inside and out. Food was creative, seasonal, and perfectly prepared. We'll be back to try the spring/summer menus."

  • "This is our go-to, can't miss special occasion place, and last Saturday night didn't disappoint. After initially being seated at a very drafty table near the door, we requested and were moved to a more sheltered spot, and from that point on the evening was perfect. We started with a complimentary "amusement" from the chef--a tiny corn crepe with a delicious mushroom filling. All three of my dishes were wonderful--my favorite was the chicken and truffle ravioli, which was subtle and flavorful with just the right amount of truffle--not overpowering as it sometimes can be. My husband ordered the lamb with gnocchi, which was also delicious. Too full for dessert, but didn't miss it!"

  • "This was second time at Restaurant Alma and am looking forward to dining there again on my next trip to Minneapolis. The food is very good and the service and staff are outstanding. I highly recommend Restaurant Alma!"

  • "Alma's is in a great SE Minneapolis location and is a neighborhood gem. The menu is very local and the presentation and the food is excellent. The only draw back is the fixed menu (pick one from each of the three columns) at a price of $52. Alma's is great for a special occasion but be prepared for the bill!"

  • "My husband and I celebrate every important occasion at Alma. The dining experience is a hedonistic pleasure of complimentary flavors and tectures. A feast for all senses and a definite aphrodisiac."

  • "Everything was perfectly prepared and well-spaced giving us ample time to linger with our wine between courses. The wine flight was nicely paired with the different courses as well. We were not aware that it was a fixed price menu before we arrived which was a bit unexpected. However, there were plenty of selections to choose from for each course and each plate was delicious and appropriately sized. Dessert was excellent as well. The corner booth was particularly comfortable and cozy for a great date night."

  • "This place is all about the food. Serious foodie wait staff. That said; the most amazing food with obvious attention to blending of flavors and spices. Very informative wait staff. Gave good suggestions on pairings of both foods and wines. Ambiance very urban. I think our dessert order was lost because that took as long as the food to arrive but then the restaurant comped the two desserts. I will be back."

  • "Per usual, the service was excellent. However, all 3 of my dishes were served luke warm and for the first time ever, I didn't even finish 2 of the 3 plates. I found the flavors to be not very interesting and the smoked mahi-mahi was very disappointing (one note flavor). It would likely come back again as my previous experiences have been positive, but wouldn't consider the restaurant the 'sure fire hit' that I would have previously."

  • "This neighborhood gem is the best! Never had such wonderful plates of perfection! Special treat to enjoy! I encourage you to experience heaven on a plate!"

  • "Location: Not familiar area but we GPS address and got there! Parking: Valet - thank goodness for that FOOD: It was unexpected! I was thinking that it would be just the same as another restaurant out in St. Paul but surprisingly it exceeded my taste buds! Thank you!"

  • "Yum... creative menu, fresh ingredients, competent service. Restaurant Alma is a bit off the beaten track. Hence this gem is often left off our restaurant list. Was looking for a romantic evening and was treated to culinary art. We liked the layout of the menu and chose the wine flight to match our meal. Highly recommend this establishment for Foodies in search of a fine dining experience."

  • "I hadn't heard of Alma until I received a gift card. We saved it for Valentine's Day weekend and had a wonderful dinner. Our server gave informative recommendations for wine, and we were not rushed in any way. The first and second courses were better than I could have imagined. We both thought our third courses were a bit too salty, though still very delicious. Dessert was also scrumptious, though nothing stood out to me as a must try-- wish they had a flour-less torte or something of that nature. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking within this price range for a special occasion."

  • "The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful, and the ambience was astounding. Dim lights, painting on the walls, two stories of seating. The food was magnificent and there is a wonderful selection of vegetarian options. The downside is, the non-vegetarian options are particularly non-vegetarian, if you understand. Lamb, octopus, etc. All in all, an excellent experience. And not un-affordable."

  • "Each time we go to R Alma it seems that we have the best meal we ever had there. The food was unusual, subtle, beautifully presented and tasted extraordinary. The unusual flavors and textures - the cherries in the hazelnut /chicken/truffle ravioli, the bonita flakes on the lamb with gnocchi, the crisp fingerling flakes on the whitefish and potato arugula salad .. Two of the wines by the glass were also especially memorable, as was the conversation with the James the sommelier about the wines -especially about the slight tropical fruit element in the Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. Service was impeccable., ,Another extraordinary experience at Restaurant Alma. ( We just spent time in some of the best restaurants in LA- no comparison)"

  • "The restaurant offers a 3 course tasting menu at this time for $52. All courses featured tasty options (even for my husband who has celiac). Both starters we had were tasty, bison tartar and winter endive salad. I loved our second courses the best - the celery root and smoke duck soup and the carnaroli rice & octopus. This was our favorite course. The main were also good, chili rubbed scallops (although they were a tad salty) and the smoked mahi mahi. we ended the meal with some cheese selections. The server knew we were gluten free, so brought out some tasty GF crackers. They service was thoughtful and attentive. For those of you who like to bring your own wine, corkage is $15."

  • "We have been going to Alma for my wife's birthday every December ever since it opened. It is two blocks from our apartment and we love to walk to it even if its cold and snowy. We also go to the owners other neighborhood eatery Brasa. Alma never disappoints us. Their wine selection is great too. We are very glad we can go to this high class place in our neighborhood."

  • "Thank you Alma for such a memorable dinner with my girlfriend. Our server, Maria was very knowledgable, passionate, and awesome altogether! We loved the good, wine, and ambience as well! We will definitely be back in the future!"

  • "The fried gizzards were amazing as was the celeriac soup with duck. I was looking forward to the braised lamb, but it ended up being a little rubbery."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "Food was awesome, great service, my only complaint was being seated right by the front door, which is beside the bar and a wall of windows. There was a lot of traffic and very cold drafts while we were eating. I will definetly be going back, I'll just request a different table now that I am in the know."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "The ever-changing three-course menu is always tops! It's expensive enough for us to reserve for special occasion dining. The staff is knowledgeable, the menu has something for everyone and the wine list is long! Don't miss Alma!"

  • "There are places that you go because you have a favorite dish, there are places you go because they do a particular style of food - then there are places you go where they have permanently spoiled you. Everything, every time has been beyond good, you go there fully expecting to be overwhelmed by the eating experience. And you are... This is such a place..."
