A word from Restaurant Alma
Opened in 1999, Restaurant Alma is a casual fine dining restaurant, offering eclectic American cuisine and warm hospitality in a rustic historically preserved building. A high, open beam ceiling, exposed brick columns and concrete floors display the original space, while an open kitchen, banquette seating and gentle lighting contribute to an intimate and contemporary feel.

Alma is best known for sourcing the best quality seasonal ingredients available and features a high percentage of local and organic products. Our menu changes every six to eight weeks, offering both new and signature dishes. We feature both a three course tasting menu format, allowing the customer to select any three dishes from the menu for $50 and a la carte options.

Alma has been awarded 4 stars by the StarTribune and shares the #1 food ranking in ZAGAT for Minneapolis/St. Paul

The food was amazing and portions were perfect. We had room for dessert! It was a wonderful place for a special occasion dinner. We did the whole experience of 3 course, bottle of wine, dessert & coffee. Our bill with tip was $290 so not a place we would go for every date, but fun if you are out celebrating.

My husband and I ate at Alma Saturday night. It was our third visit in less than a year thanks to a friend's recommendation. The food was excellent. My favorite dish that I tried from the new fall menu was a squash and yam salad that had a wonderful mix of flavors, both sweet and spicy. Delicious. My husband raved over the pork tenderloin dish. If you are looking to try something different and creative, Alma is the spot.

I made reservations about 3 weeks in advance for a part of 3. In this party, one vegetarian, a child and a standard meat eater. This restaurant had such awesome reviews but what really appealed to me was the vegetarian tasting. The server came over, explained a bit about the restaurant and we proceeded to order. My husband did the vegetarian tasting, and I ordered off the standard tasting menu. 2 of 3 three vegetarian dishes were not good. They had a awful taste. The 3rd of the vegetarian tasting was the only one that was actually good. All of the non veggie dishes were good but not great. The ambiance also leaves a bit to be desired at this price point. Would I go back? No. Would I recommend. No.

Selected this restaurant among several options for a smaller, more intimate experience where the focus is the food. Have to admit it exceeded our expectation. The portions are "small" and that may cause some initial concern but the way the courses are spaced, with tasty baked goods in between, and the time spent simply savoring all the amazing flavors and the freshness of everything, we walked away quite satisfied. Menu was sufficient without being overwhelming and every course of our tasting menu was simply awesome. Service was impeccable. A return visit is definitely in our future. Did not care for the valet parking charge on the bill since we did not use the service - missed it on the bill and had to call the next day to rectify.

This is my favorite restaurant in the twin cities but our experience was far from the typical excellence we have come to expect. Services was uncharacteristically mediocre. We only saw our server when our dishes were served. They had just switched to their new fall menu and our dishes were varied but definitely not up to the usual quality. we'll try again in a couple of weeks.

Pleasantly surprised! I found Restaurant Alma on Yelp and read the reviews and am always a little skeptical when I read what people say about a place. You just never know but what made it intriguing was how they prepared the food and the wine list. Organic is kind of a buss word for my date and I so we tried the place out. To our surprise the moment we walked in we I felt like we were in a restaurant in San Francisco. The place had a very good vibe. Everything from the service at the bar, to a seating arrangement all the way to the food and wind was terrific! I would go there again! Nice job Restaurant Alma!

Heard about this from co-workers, and Alma lives up to their hype.We went with another couple, and ordered from the three course tasting menu, and since a birthday was involved, had dessert too. The portions were just right, and the seasonings/flavors superb.I do a fair amount of dinner parties, from 8 to 28 people, but would love to serve a few of Alma's dishes, but it would be lost on the Couple's who think pepper is too spicy. So go here with friends who truly appreciate tasting all the ingredients, and if you wonder about what you are tasting, your server will help you out. Our only disappointment was we had down loaded the menu and had our choices ready, but the menu had changed....please keep your website current. We will be back!

It is difficult to know where to start and end with Restaurant Alms-you feel the positive energy and excitement of the stall the moment you enter the door and you just know that the dining experience is going to be fantastic. The service is beyond compare with wait staff that allows you to be in pause of the conversation before approaching the table. This is the restaurant you go to when you are looking for food that excites the taste buds, allows each meal course to settle well on the palette and stomach before another course comes along. This is the restaurant you go to when you want to converse with others at the table and take pleasure in food, company and not feel rushed as the staff makes you feel at home.

The food, and over all experience was incredible. Worth every penny. But the main server and hostes left much to be desired in regard to service. Emotionless, made to feel unimportant, very pretentious. Only reason for leaving a large tip was knowing it is shared. Not used to "upper class" so to speak in regard to restaurants, disappointed with the over all service in comparison to other restaurants we have attended.

This was our first time here, and the tasting menu was great! We loved the rabbit in the second course and the scallops in the third course. The pork in course 2 was a bit salty for our taste. Also, you must try the apple dessert. It was the perfect combination of sweet apples and salty caramel with an amazing crust.

The quality of the food at Alma is one of the best in the Twin Cities! It is fresh and locally sourced. The preparations are wonderful and the portion sizes are just right! The service is both personal and attentive. We have eaten at Alma several times because it is consistently excellent. It's can be both casual and formal, but it has a very unpretentious feel. It's a "must-go" if you and/or your guests are looking for amazing food, great service, and a nice evening!

The dishes here hit the high notes with great consistency, so even the most jaded palette should be delighted. Shame, though, that other components of a great dining experience were not present. There was no valet and almost no parking - good luck in winter! The young host who greeted us knew in advance it was our 25th wedding anniversary and told my wife that he wasn't even alive 25 years ago. Nice way to flatter a woman of a certain age. When I ordered a cocktail, I was surprised to learn they only had a wine license. Our server neglected us; the intervals between her rare visits to our table were way too long. I note that others enjoyed their service, so maybe it's the luck of the draw. But Alma could step up its game many ways.

Chose this for 25th anniversary celebration as I have heard ravings about it for years. The food and wine pairings were awesome. We both loved every dish. The service- meh. When a couple spends this much for a special night out, I really think service should be impeccable- and perhaps at least a "Happy Anniversary!" greeting from the waitstaff. Why else ask for comments in the reservations? Maybe it's edgier or hipper to be soft-spoken and aloof, but I find that off-putting as a customer. A little warmth, humor, engagement goes a long way.

Went with a friend to celebrate another birthday. Was totally lovely, like the three course menu arrangement. Ordered the wine pairings which were incredibly delicious and spot on. Our server seemed nervous and slightly flaky -- at one point asked to see the regular wine menu again and she went to a different table with it on the other side of the room, also reset our silverware and forgot to give my dining partner a fork. Other than that, food was incredible.

5th Annual Birthday Dinner was the best one yet! 20 dishes, 9 wines, 4 great friends and engaging bartender makes for a great night. We now choose to sit at the bar to be close to the wine bottles and get the stories of their origins (or is it so we are never too far from the pour?). How do you pick a favorite dish when 18 of them are your favorites? Still hands down my favorite restaurant in town and I am very eager for the extension to open next door.

A favorite restaurant for us. Relaxed, warm ambiance with focus on great food. Seasonal menu - on this trip for my wife: Chilled Sweet Corn Soup, Bok Choy Fritters, Roast Chicken for main; and, for me: Smoked Rabbit Salad, Grilled Bread (with braised pork rib, pepperoncini & burrata), Duck Two Ways for main. Shared bottle of sparkling: Jansz Rose Brut, NV, Tasmania. Split the Dark Chocolate Mousse for dessert with capacino for her and 10 yr Tawny Port for me. Winners were: corn soup, rabbit, grilled bread, and roast chx. Outstanding service from front door through dinner. Server was outstanding. Great spot for special dinner or relaxed dinner for couple or small group. Clientele from 40s to 20s. Dress casual to nice casual.
