Somehow we are always lucky to sit in the second level where you can get a glimpse of the chefs plating and enjoy the scene from up top. The three course tasting menu has such a clever take on the season and offers a variety of options for the discerning patron. My husband and I always have a contest as to who wins each course, my crispy soft cooked egg was so delicious, it beat out his bison tartare--even though that was amazing. We also added the wine and beer pairings which added so much to the enjoyment of the meal. I tried Hake, which I never had before and it was scrumptious! The food is crazy good, and they're doing really unique, flavorful dishes. One of the highlights was composing our own cheese plate, and the Banoffee dessert was just lovely. Upon arriving we were given some free Cava to toast with, which really hit off the evening. Service was nice, but wasn't incredibly personable, which we didn't mind too much since we were being all "romantical". We will certainly be back for more delicious treats! While they have a vegetarian menu, vegan presented a bit of a challenge. They offered to whip up a 3 course vegan meal for her....no problem. I was a bit worried it wouldn't be as wonderful as the normal menu items as I had talked the place up to my daughter. Worries were unfounded......she absolutely loved her food. I was again in foodie heaven. The noise level is not just energetic; it is LOUD. Add to that, the tables are too close together, or perhaps too many of them in the space provided. While everything we ate was delicious, the "vegetarian tasting menu" option in particular was wonderful for my wife, who for all practical purposes is a vergetarian when it comes to upscale dining. Additionaly, I selected for $18 the wine pairings. Our server was fantastic - completely passionate about the food, its presentation and she showed a genuine concern for our experience. She was a great balance of passionate foodie along with unpretentious host.

We loved each part of our meals and the highlight was the pairings with each course. This was the first time we did that and each selection was spot on! Only complaints- waitress seemed to lack in personality but you could tell she was passionate about the food. She seemed to be annoyed when we just wanted to get a glass of wine and chill prior to ordering. Next time we book via open table I will request a seat towards the back of the restaurant-it was super cold by the front door and windows, despite their attempt at the thick curtains. Otherwise, nice work, loved it! The space is very nice, the service is professional and friendly, and the food was perfectly executed. The wine list is relatively small but a lot of time and thought went into the selections. You will drink very well. I recommend the prix fixe menu--the portions are responsibly sized and it's worth it to see the talent in the kitchen. Restaurant Alma is one of them. The menu is always changing, so there's no getting bored and the options on the price-fix style menu give one lots of options, all executed with excellence. We had the crispy soft-cooked egg, the prawns, the rabbit with mole, the hake, and the lobster gnocchi - all featured distinctly different flavors and were cooked to perfection. I don't know how they do it from such a small kitchen. Restaurant Alma doesn't have a cocktails, but the wine list is excellent. This was a birthday celebration, and the host greeted us with Happy Birthday upon entering...as did the server. Nice. We started with parmesan flan which is always a favorite. This time is came with parsnip two ways and a bit of olive tapenade and maple syrup. Yum. I next had squash soup garnished with a little pork belly. Partner had potato agnolotti. Both were quite good. For an entree, I had the hake... a lovely white fish like cod. Man, they know how to cook fish. Lightly and softly. Partner had pork tenderloin which was fork-tender. Dessert was panna cotte for me - plain but good. Partner had meyer lemon tart with an ice cream dollop that was to die for. Service was exceptional. Though we were told their menu changes about every 10 weeks or so, what we had I want to go again before it changes! The squash soup was out of this world, as was the duck. We both were super impressed by the ambiance, the friendly wait staff and location. We both don't own cars, so getting there was a breeze! Oh and lets not forget dessert...we had the cheese selection. HUGE chucks of delicious cheeses with sliced apples and fruit preserves on the side. The sherrys we chose were excellent as well.
