Restaurant AlmaFantastic Mother's Day dinnerFood was superb. Our waiter was also one of the cooks/chefs and his knowledge of the menu was encyclopedic. They even allowed to order off the three-course menu for my young preteen daughter!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelish! Every dish we hadDelish! Every dish we had was amazing! Our favorites included the Duck and Beef 3rd course. Service was ok - it took them awhile to bring my husband's wine, but other than that, their recommendations were all very good.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently CreativeThe food is consistently creative and interesting; the service always top notch.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMwowThis is my third time at alma and everytime I'm left with wow...
How on earth is everything so good....5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAbove parFrom when you step in the door til the last bite of dessert, you feel special and pampered. Somehow we are always lucky to sit in the second level where you can get a glimpse of the chefs plating and enjoy the scene from up top. The three course tasting menu has such a clever take on the season and offers a variety of options for the discerning patron. My husband and I always have a contest as to who wins each course, my crispy soft cooked egg was so delicious, it beat out his bison tartare--even though that was amazing. We also added the wine and beer pairings which added so much to the enjoyment of the meal. I tried Hake, which I never had before and it was scrumptious! Dessert was key lime pie-their way, it was to die for!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful creative food, niceWonderful creative food, nice presentation, good service. The noise level was high for older people especially those with hearing loss.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent mealParmesan flan outstanding, bison tartare good, roasted prawns wonderful, rabbit mole outstanding, ricotta gnocchi excellent, sauteed duck wonderful, lemon pie fantastic.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMy boyfriend and I celebratedMy boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here, and we both had a wonderful time. The food is crazy good, and they're doing really unique, flavorful dishes. One of the highlights was composing our own cheese plate, and the Banoffee dessert was just lovely. Upon arriving we were given some free Cava to toast with, which really hit off the evening. Service was nice, but wasn't incredibly personable, which we didn't mind too much since we were being all "romantical". We will certainly be back for more delicious treats! Thank you for making our evening special.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food, service and attentionThe food, service and attention to detail were far beyond what I have experienced in most dining establishments in the metro.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently great foodThe setting and decor may be somewhat casual, but there's nothing casual about the creative tasty dishes coming out of the kitchen. It's our "go to " place when we want inventive and reliably great meals.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding...again!First tried a week ago based on recommendation from a friend. Took a co-worker in town from San Francisco. He's a foodie and loves wine and he was very impressed. I loved it so much I went back this week for dinner with my daughter. She's a vegan. While they have a vegetarian menu, vegan presented a bit of a challenge. They offered to whip up a 3 course vegan meal for her....no problem. I was a bit worried it wouldn't be as wonderful as the normal menu items as I had talked the place up to my daughter. Worries were unfounded......she absolutely loved her food. I was again in foodie heaven. Tried the pork tenderloin last time.......amazing........duck this time.......it was even better (I truly didn't think that was possible).4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNo parking lot and streetNo parking lot and street parking in this area is tough to find. The noise level is not just energetic; it is LOUD. Add to that, the tables are too close together, or perhaps too many of them in the space provided. If these don't make a difference to you, I would recommend this place only for the food and the service, which are excellent. The ambience, meh.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA truly special mealFood was stellar, server very knowledgeable & deft. We loved it! We'll return, definitely.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting combinations ofInteresting combinations of ingredients, tastes and textures, everything tasting fresh and attractively presented.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an excellent dinner,We had an excellent dinner, one of the best at Alma.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMQuality Dining!I have never hasd a bad meal here, still the standard for fine dining in the Twin Cities!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! One of the best meals I've had in years (and I've had a lot). Outstanding wine selections, as well as perfect pairings with every course. Impeccable presentation, quality ingredients and perfect, friendly service. We'll go back every time we are in Minneapolis.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMVacation in the CityOur evening at Alma's was like a mini vacation. Between the amazing food, excellent service and great wine we felt like royalty. I would return for any special event and look forward to future menu choices.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Vegetarians & CarnivoresPossibly the best food in the Twin Cities. We went to celebrate my wife's 39th Birthday and we were very impressed. In the five years since we were last there, Restaurant Alma has possibly only gotten better. There is no wait we'll wait another five years before dining there again.
While everything we ate was delicious, the "vegetarian tasting menu" option in particular was wonderful for my wife, who for all practical purposes is a vergetarian when it comes to upscale dining. Additionaly, I selected for $18 the wine pairings. Three generous "half" glasses to complement each course was a great deal and I loved trying three different wines.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThere's not one bad thingThere's not one bad thing I could say about this place. From the service to the atmosphere to the food and wine, Alma delivered such a wonderful dining experience! I loved the bison tartar and agnolotti with mushrooms.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThough the location is a littleThough the location is a little strange, to have such wonderful (and expensive) food in the University area instead of downtown, but the food did not disappoint. We only went for dessert and enjoyed everything we had.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOnce again, Alma deliveredOnce again, Alma delivered a wonderful evening. The food just cannot be beat. The wine list expansive. Service attentive and helpful. One of our favorite dining experiences in the Cities.....bar none!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI take my son to Alma quiteI take my son to Alma quite a bit as we are big foodies and we have always liked the menu selections. They offer several gluten free choices as well. Our experience there has always been rather pleasant as is the service. I highly recommend.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic as always. OneFantastic as always. One of the great gems in a great Minneapolis food scene.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMCafe Alma remains top shelf!!Going in with high expectations, we were not disappointed. We brought along two dear friends, a couple, where the Mrs. is a dedicated "foodie". She was absolutely immersed in the whole experience and said she would put this culinary experience against any! Bar none.
Our server was fantastic - completely passionate about the food, its presentation and she showed a genuine concern for our experience. She was a great balance of passionate foodie along with unpretentious host.
I greatly look forward to our next dining experience at Cafe Alma.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointedThis was our fourth time back to Alma and they have yet to disappoint. We loved each part of our meals and the highlight was the pairings with each course. This was the first time we did that and each selection was spot on! Only complaints- waitress seemed to lack in personality but you could tell she was passionate about the food. She seemed to be annoyed when we just wanted to get a glass of wine and chill prior to ordering. Next time we book via open table I will request a seat towards the back of the restaurant-it was super cold by the front door and windows, despite their attempt at the thick curtains. Otherwise, nice work, loved it! Can't wait to go back especially with spring coming, can't wait to see the selections on the menu!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBest way to describe the qualityBest way to describe the quality of food is that when you are engaged in a very good conversation while eating and as you are tasting the food, you
stop talking because the flavors are so FANTASTIC! That's what happend to me the last time I ate at Alma, others in my group of three felt the same and we all ordered different foods. You do need to make reservations to eat at Alma!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI was extremely impressedI was extremely impressed with Restaurant Alma. The space is very nice, the service is professional and friendly, and the food was perfectly executed. The wine list is relatively small but a lot of time and thought went into the selections. You will drink very well. I recommend the prix fixe menu--the portions are responsibly sized and it's worth it to see the talent in the kitchen. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Minneapolis.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing and ErikaThe food was amazing and Erika was perfect explaining the flavor of everything. Thank you we had a wonderful evening.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA great restaurant year after yearThis was not our first time here. Aside from the food we loved that they had valet parking available. The food continues to be interesting and wonderful. We tried to decide which course we liked best and had a hard time deciding. This is a restaurant that continues to be first rate year after year.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was perfect. TheThe food was perfect. The squash soup is something special and not comparable to anything. We're anxious to share this experience with other friends!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMTotally delightful meal. ComplexTotally delightful meal. Complex without being stuffy. If I was good at raving fan-like about anyone, it would be Alexander Roberts. He's an artist.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I tried (and shared)My wife and I tried (and shared) the tasting menu -- 6 dishes between the both of us. All were very different, but all executed very well. The atmosphere was comfortable and quiet so we could enjoy the conversation without competing with nearby tables. It was just a great dinner - we both enjoyed it immensely and will be back.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe chef at Alma always hasThe chef at Alma always has a new, surprise dish added to the tasting menu. This time it was a parmesan flan. What talent he has and what a delicious blend of flavors in every dish! It has been my favorite restaurant for years, and it keeps getting better.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAlma has a fixed $50 three-courseAlma has a fixed $50 three-course menu that did not disappoint. We headed here for a birthday dinner and thought that the food was amazing, very tastefully put together. The whitefish salad and tri-tip beef roast were of specific high quality.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWhy did we wait so long? Our group, which included 2 couples, returned after only one previous occasion long ago. We were all blown away by the first course. And the food and service continued at an incredibly high level all night. We will definitely be back .... soon ... as soon as we can get in!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fabulous eveningWe had a fabulous evening with our friends; food was outstanding although my partner could not finish her gnocchi. She said it wasn't very good at all. Wines were wonderful and our service, Kate Rose, was truly a gem!She was so knowledgeable about the menu and the wines + We really enjoyed her!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service wereThe food and service were great. The pork tenderloin was incredibly tender and very flavorful and the squash soup was incredibly delicious. The wine pairings went perfectly with each dish. This was my first time to Restaurant Alma but I will certainly return. If I had any complaints at all, it was that maybe the tables are just a little too close and the space a little tight. Otherwise, fantastic experience.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMStill one of the bestWith so many new restaurants opening in the Twin Cities, it's sometimes easy to forget that there are outstanding places that have been around awhile and continue to set the bar high. Restaurant Alma is one of them. The menu is always changing, so there's no getting bored and the options on the price-fix style menu give one lots of options, all executed with excellence. We had the crispy soft-cooked egg, the prawns, the rabbit with mole, the hake, and the lobster gnocchi - all featured distinctly different flavors and were cooked to perfection. I don't know how they do it from such a small kitchen. Restaurant Alma doesn't have a cocktails, but the wine list is excellent. A great dining experience3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant Alma is a favoriteRestaurant Alma is a favorite of ours and has been for years. Love that they offer a vegetarian menu w/such unique items, many one would not do at home.
Thank you.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMTopsOrder from their 3 course menu. Experiment! It's all great food. I've never had a flash-fried poached egg on a salad before, but it was probably the best salad I've ever had.It is not inexpensive, but the food is worth what they charge.Portions may seem small to someone like myself who enjoys a hearty meal. But don't be fooled. I left full.In retrospect the servings seemed the right size for how flavorful they were and the manner in which they were presented.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSat at the bar. Perfect foodSat at the bar. Perfect food and perfect (friendly!) service. Had mole-braised rabbit with crepe, seared hake and perfect salad. Wish I could go again but have to go home to Boston. Great, great little place.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful and fufillingA wonderful and fufilling experience from start to finish. Wonderful choices, beautiful platings...everything was exquisite. We will definitely be back.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways tops on our listsWe always have a great time here. This was a birthday celebration, and the host greeted us with Happy Birthday upon entering...as did the server. Nice. We started with parmesan flan which is always a favorite. This time is came with parsnip two ways and a bit of olive tapenade and maple syrup. Yum. I next had squash soup garnished with a little pork belly. Partner had potato agnolotti. Both were quite good. For an entree, I had the hake... a lovely white fish like cod. Man, they know how to cook fish. Lightly and softly. Partner had pork tenderloin which was fork-tender. Dessert was panna cotte for me - plain but good. Partner had meyer lemon tart with an ice cream dollop that was to die for. Service was exceptional. All around lovely meal.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoy going to Alma onWe enjoy going to Alma on special occasions, given that the price is a little bit high, but the food is worth it 100%.
The only recommendation would be to have warm/softer bread.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMImpeccable food and service.Impeccable food and service. Informal atmosphere was enjoyable. My only suggestion would be use chairs instead of benches. Perhaps make the Loft more inviting .3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe tend to go to Alma forWe tend to go to Alma for special occasions and when we want some REALLY good food. It never lets us down.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWow, wow and wow! Our firstWow, wow and wow! Our first time dining at Alma - the 3 course meal was superb, and the wine pairings outstanding. Though we were told their menu changes about every 10 weeks or so, what we had I want to go again before it changes! The squash soup was out of this world, as was the duck. We both were super impressed by the ambiance, the friendly wait staff and location. We both don't own cars, so getting there was a breeze! Oh and lets not forget dessert...we had the cheese selection. HUGE chucks of delicious cheeses with sliced apples and fruit preserves on the side. The sherrys we chose were excellent as well. We will be back we loved it so much.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI was delighted when my girlfriendI was delighted when my girlfriend and I wanted to spontaneously go to dinner on a Monday night and she remembered Alma.
