A word from Restaurant Alma
Opened in 1999, Restaurant Alma is a casual fine dining restaurant, offering eclectic American cuisine and warm hospitality in a rustic historically preserved building. A high, open beam ceiling, exposed brick columns and concrete floors display the original space, while an open kitchen, banquette seating and gentle lighting contribute to an intimate and contemporary feel.



Alma is best known for sourcing the best quality seasonal ingredients available and features a high percentage of local and organic products. Our menu changes every six to eight weeks, offering both new and signature dishes. We feature both a three course tasting menu format, allowing the customer to select any three dishes from the menu for $50 and a la carte options.

  • "This is my fourth time at Alma (I think) and it was as spectacular as ever. All three courses were impeccable. Dessert was impeccable. The little things, like bread and butter, were impeccable. The service was darned near obsessive, with perhaps a bit too much enthusiasm in refilling water glasses (but better than neglecting them). The only downsides I can think of are that parking can be a bit tight, and I can't go there as often as I like, because I would be fat and broke. But very happy."

The menu-carte is very reasonable and every single dish is a revelation. The wine list is not bad although pricey. Still, corkage is only $15. Order a (less extortionate) bottle of theirs and bring a good bottle of your own. And then savor every bite of every single dish! Share tastes with your companion(s). Not one bite will disappoint!"

We had the 3 course tasting menu, but each of us ordered different items so that we could share and taste more items. From the first course the Lightly Pickled Shrimp dish was excellent, and the Garlic Scape Naan was delicious in the second course. The rest of the courses (the King Salmon Tartar in the first course, Turmeric Roasted Halibut in the second course, and the Duck Two Ways and the Port Tenderloin in the third course were very good, but not exceptional.)"

With so many delicious options, making a decision can be quite difficult, but all 3 of us were impressed with our individual choices. The dish sizes are perfect, so we left feeling satisfied, without being completely stuffed. On this occasion, we opted for a wine pairing for each course, and found each to be a perfect match to our dishes. The service level was attentive, without being intrusive. The ambiance is relaxed, and welcoming. With the menu changing on a monthly basis, we will definitely become regular visitors!"

The flavors were complex and layered. Excellent technique. We were especially impressed by the white beans with bonito flakes and the fish courses ( crispy trout and halibut). The dark chocolate dessert with lavender cream and lavender infused cake was also amazing. The service was personal and professional (water glasses full, good timing of the courses, communication with the valet so that our car was waiting). It was not inexpensive, but it was romantic, quiet (we were on the upper level), and one of the best meals we have had in a few years."

  • "Alma is our special occassion restaurant of choice. The special occasion today was Father's Day. I enjoyed the 3-course quasi-vegetarian selections, my husband enjoyed the vegetaria choices. We find the kitchen very accommodating to special dietary needs and appreciate that. I had prawns appetizer (excellent) the black bean and corn tortilla (vegetarian) and the halibut. The waiter questioned wheter I wanted the appetizer of entree portion of the halibut. I should have gone with the appetizer portion -- it was too much food! But it was all delicious. My husband had the crepe and the cavatelli. Since we share, I know his dishes were awesome as well. We both enjoyed wine, all in all, a very nice dining experience."

The kitchen heat rises up, and there is only one fan and inadequate air conditioning.   • "Just dined off new 3 -course menu and loved it! The first courses were light and flavorful and the middle and entrée courses were spectacular. My husband had a corn and black bean cake that was excellent, and I had a wonderful halibut made with Asian spices. He then had the trout, while I had "duck 2-ways" - both were perfectly prepared with wonderfully distinct flavors. We also ordered the wine pairings and let the sommelier make our choices and they were a perfect fit with the food. We were too full for dessert, but they also looked great! We highly recommend it - and ask to sit in the upstairs if you want a slightly more quiet/intimate experience. Service was, as always, exceptionally knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Go there!!"

  • "You've got to be kidding!What a New York food snob I am (and I didn't think I was!); kind of "stuck"in Minneapolis for the night, after a really tiring week elsewhere, I looked up my Open Table source in this city and selected a nearby restaurant that was booked until 9pm(later an earlier time opened);it truly is EVERYTHING you could hope to find anywhere, but what a shock (to me!) here;(I reminded myself that exceptional chefs and wine experts are, like, EVERYWHERE you're open to go!); you're presented with a choice of several three-course menus along with a pairing, if you choose (I REALLY choose after seeing the wine list! and meeting the "wine expert"); a really divine treat!!My other outstanding is Le Bernadin; magic in Minneapolis!"

I had the King Salmon tartare appetizer, beautiful and the fish was so fresh and flavorful with minimal adornment so the salmon really stood out. Second course nettle crepe with morrels -- bursting with Spring, each bite was a delight. Third course crispy trout with almond anchovy butter -- sublime. The service matched the food."

  • "We received a $100 gift card for our anniversary and decided to use it prior to attending a 7:30pm play at the Orpheum. This was our first time. We sat in the balcony - which gave us a good view of the overall restaurant plus let us 'peek over' the dishes being prepared below. My wife & I both chose the $52 3-course tasting menu - I also selected the accompanying wine flight. everything was delicious - fun dishes - and for 'smaller' plates - we found most everything generous re. portion size. We would highly recommend for a 'date night'. Only caution - since almost all dishes are prepared at order time - we were not rushed - but even being seated at 5:30pm we still had to forego dessert since we finished our 3rd course at 7."
