Diner Reviews
  • "When we arrived it was several minutes before anyone greeted us even with the girl standing right there, the romantic view that I requested, we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, was a view or the mountains and the hotel pool with people playing. When I asked if we could be moved to the front patio facing the landscape, the girl had to get the manager. He treated us like we didn't belong there and like I was stupid because I didn't want a view overlooking to pool. He even rolled his eyes when he walked away from talking to me. I ordered the veal dish and my husband ordered a steak dish. The veal in my dish was shredded and almost non existent. The servers asst. Took the olive oil away while my husband was in the middle of using it."

  • "Amazing food, wonderful surroundings, eclectic and chic. My favorite restaurant in Greenville."

  • "My husband and I, along with our son and his fiance were celebrating his birthday and their recent engagement. We were seated on the outside terrace facing the beautiful mountains. The meal was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was available for anything we needed. A gluten-free basket of bread was even given to my husband who has celiac disease to enjoy while we were enjoying our regular bread. Very nice gesture! Such a beautiful evening! We will definitely be back!"

  • "Dinner was terrific. Service was professional when orders were taken and items were served but wait time for courses and ensuring we all had what we needed between courses could be improved. I highly recommend as an evening when you are open to a long leisurely fine dining experience."

  • "We were there with our three adult daughters for a family get together. It was our first visit, and despite the rainy evening we enjoyed being in the setting in the foothills. The food was very good with some different offerings. Our waitress Rebecca was very attentive and pleasant."

  • "When pro cyclist George Hincapie took over Hotel Domestique and opened the farm-to-table Restaurant 17, I was skeptical, as I would be with any pro athlete getting into the business. I visited Restaurant 17 on a Friday night with my wife, and we had a wonderful experience. Hincapie was actually there that night eating with friends. The preparation and presentation of the food were top-notch and on par with the best restaurants in nearby Greenville. The dishes were inventive and pretty. As with any fine restaurant, don't expect huge portions, but be prepared to thoroughly enjoy the food. The bartender is also a trained mixologist and has some inventive flair. I look forward to going back soon."

  • "I would have never guessed that a restaurant of this quality would be in the obscure location that it is in, but there it is, and it is outstanding. I am by no means an avid fine diner, so some of the menu items looked like odd combinations of flavors to me. But we went with something, and it was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. The view of the vineyard and mountains was spectacular, there was a pleasantly surprising list of available craft beers, and Thomas, our server, was very knowledgeable and intimately familiar with everything on the menu. I am eagerly anticipating our return visit."

  • "Prix fix dinners with international menu are the best kept secret in upstate SC; they happen once weekly, in July they have a French orientation in celebration of the "Tour de France". Amazing food with ingredients sourced from local farms!!"

  • "Amazing gourmet food, farm to table; scenic romantic view. Special events such as Tour de France viewing party and bike rides with George Hincapie, the owner."

  • "This restaurant, a short drive north of Greenville's Main Street excellent main line offerings, has created the perfect Tuesday dining out experience. We once stayed at an all inclusive, exclusive jungle resort in Belize that catered to lots of different foreign vacationers and they had a different Theme Country Dinner Night, every night. It was good and great fun. Consequently we were intrigued to learn that Restaurant 17 is offering a fixed price different country/region 3 course dinner ever Month on Tuesdays. Why any Chief would create, plan, purchase the ingredients and prepare unique high quality dishes to serve it just once boggles the foodies mind. We have been going 2-3 times a month and have never been anything but amazed."

  • "We had some really good dishes, including trout poke, wild mushroom risotto, and hanger steak. Unfortunately, we also had a few lack luster dishes and one terrible dish, the chocolate doughnut. Wish I could give it more stars because the setting, but the food isn't on par with the price or the views."

  • "We were celebrating a friend's birthday and chose Restaurant 17 for a unique experience. As we've come to expect, we were very happy with the innovative food, impeccable service and atmosphere."

  • "The restaurant is pleasing, both the decor and the major windows overlooking the mountains. Beyond that, the food is terrific, and the service is outstanding. The experience is well worth the prices that are somewhat higher than ordinary restaurants."

  • "Took wife for birthday. Fantastic service, just 20 minute drive from Greenville. Loved the food & drinks. Savory & sophisticated flavors with a one-of-a-kind view of mountains. Sat on balcony. Definite repeat, hopefully frequently."

  • "Just 20+ minutes from downtown, and we (3 couples) rode together which made a fun, mini, road trip! Restaurant 17 was all we had expected! Great to see other friends there, as well! Great food, awesome staff, beautiful 360° view."

  • "This is an outstanding restaurant in every sense. The menu, always changing, presents unique and wonderfully prepared dishes with a genuine European flair. It is friendly and service is top flight."

  • "Great food although very expensive. It's a nice change from other restaurants in the area. We'll probably only eat at Restaurant 17 on special occasions because of the price."

  • "Restaurant 17 @ Hotel Domestique, is only a short drive from downtown Greenville and are impressed with its ability to grow with ever increasing number of diners as the word gets out about the culinary skill of their young chef, Adam. A restaurant is of course is more than just the kitchen and the "front of the house" now has their act together and is close to matching the quality of its food offerings. We arrived within 5 minutes of our reservation and were seated promptly in spite of all three parking lots being packed! It happened to be a Tuesday, which has the complete menu plus a fixed price menu of a changing monthly region. We opted for the Cyprus fare in order to test our palates and the chef and it was....Astonishing!"

  • "Great local spot, the wine was good, the service was great but the food is still a bit eclectic. I can appreciate the chefs detail and variety but sometimes you simply want a good steak and potato type dinner. Menu could use some more variety but I do like the inclusion of local good items on the menu."

  • "We were intrigued to try the special Turkish menu offered the evening we were at Restaurant 17. The restaurant is serving regional cuisine menus on Tuesday evenings. Like every other meal we have had at Restaurant 17, the food was flavorful, interesting, perfectly prepared, and refreshingly innovative. We now have a new appreciation for Turkish food. Other than the fact that there were no merlots on the wine list, we were perfectly happy with our entire experience."

  • "To celebrate an early Father's Day for my husband, we dined on Friday, June 13 at 5:30. The restaurant was quiet, in fact we were the only ones there. I had requested a table with a view, and we were seated upstairs with a beautiful view. Our waiter was Robert C. and he was very helpful in explaining the menu and identifying some items we may like. Our meal was fantastic. The sweet corn and lobster risotto was out of this world. We also had a side of grits that were equally a wonderful. I chose Scallops from the small plates for my entree. My husband enjoyed the pasta of the day. Our entire meal was delicious. The wait staff was very attentive and Steve the manager came around to say hello. A great experience and close to HVL."

  • "We had dinner with two other couples and everyone had a superb time. We shared the fried gnocchi which were good but not great, however the charcuterie and cheese plate was delightful. All of our entrees, rabbit, hangar steak and the quail, were excellently prepared. Our waiter, Lee, and the sommelier, Kathleen I believe, were extremely helpful with our wine selection. On top of a great evening, we enjoyed the spectacular view of the Blue Ridge escarpment."

  • "Chef Adam and his staff serve unique, subtle harmonized flavors that blend on the palate. Many of the dishes then finish with a lingering "ummmmmm" factor that make diners curious about the ingredients that create that effect. Delightful and intriguing, the flavors beautifully accompany the selection of wines. When in doubt, depend on the sommelier for assistance. The menu changes seasonally, and weekly, depending on resources provided by the many local farmers. Citrus-marinated scallops, smoked pork loin, chocolate Napoleons are just a few of the offerings we enjoyed. The kitchen prepares many of their own basics from charcuterie to smoked meats and pickled vegetables to tonic for the bar. Great service from Rebecca and Jennifer."

  • "Hostess was rather unpleasant and unaccommodating but our waitress was fantastic. She knew the food well and had great recommendations. The food was great and impressive that everything is made in house. Also, you can't beat the view if you sit outside. "

  • "Great destination type of place for a special dinner. You get a sense of unwinding, which makes the whole experience even better. The view of the mountains through the large floor-to-ceiling window is fantastic, especially at sunset. So, get there early and get a drink and enjoy it. The food is amazing, and our server was very knowledgeable and genuine. Of course, the prices are at the high end, and that's exactly what you would expect. But the food and the experience make it very much worth it, and more so than other great restaurants in downtown Greenville. Highly recommend Cheese & Charcuterie. I'll definitely be going back."

  • "We do not dine out often, so when we do, we are very picky. Restaurant 17 has moved to the top of our list with its excellent food and service. The only thing that would make Restaurant 17 better would be to improve the noise level. The food and service are excellent, decor and noise do not go with it. At Restaurant 17 the food and service are typical of your finest restaurants paired with decor better suited to a deli."

  • "Best food in Greenville, and most subtle preparation. Where else would the chef have considered using peas and turnips in the grits? Worth the drive, and we came from Ohio."

  • "Went during the week for dinner. Found the ambience to be okay. Modern design with lots of hard surfaces was not warm to my taste and lead to the room being a bit louder than needed. The waiter was good - but not overly welcoming (perhaps trying to be more formal) - experience was saved by a few manager visits and the folks filling waters glasses and taking away dishes. The food however was exceptional. Presentation and portions were right on. Priced as i would have expected. We will happily return."

  • "Looked for somewhere new, Restaurant 17 came up on OT. Very impressed - great service (our server even explained the background to the restaurant and hotel names), impressive wine list (backed up by a sommelier and server who clearly understand their wines) and great food. The entree sized pork and quail were excellent, accompanied by superb carrots and mushrooms. Moved the overall rating down one star for just one reason ... the noise. Our reservation was later in the evening, a lot of diners had already left but it was still noisy, to the point of distraction. There was a party upstairs, but they didn't seem to be especially loud ... I can only imagine how bad it must be when the dining room is full. "

  • "Our waitress was delightful but it took forever to get our food. We felt it was very overpriced for the quality and quantity. My spaghetti with the anchovy sauce was good but it was served in a fancy bowl with slanting sides that made it awkward to eat. Also, although the menu was alla carte, it would have been nice to have a little bread with the spaghetti. My tablemates were less than satisfied with their meals also. "

  • "The drive from Greenville was certainly worth it! The hotel and restaurant are exquisite and the service (especially Rebeccah) was incredible. Started with cocktails/wine at the bar before proceeding to the table. While we had been hoping to enjoy the drinks on the gorgeous outdoor balconies, there was a wedding reception had the areas reserved but the bar itself was lovely. The glasses, alcohol, and eclectic wine list were all of high quality. Proceeded to dinner and everything was prepared excellently with one exception- the rabbit. The hanger steak, duck, and various small plates were scrumptious. We had to pass on dessert as we had a celebration cake at home, but next time we dine here we shall be sure to indulge! Overall- a MUST visit!"

  • "We reserved a table fully expecting the elegant dining experience we always had at La Bastide, the former restaurant at this location. We were sorely disappointed by the inattentive waiter, slow service and loud atmosphere. (There was a rehearsal dinner at the time, however, the loft area where they held this affair is open to the dining room downstairs. This was quite a distraction all night.) Not to mention the flies flying all over the restaurant, "Because," we were told, they "had left the doors open all day because of the wedding party." We could not have been more disappointed. Had we dined at a different type of restaurant, these occurrences would have been commonplace, however, we did not expect it here. We will not be returning."

  • "Our table gave great mountain views to one side and a chance to watch the interesting chandelier change color. The food was very good and the wine list allowed a very nice bottle of wine. We will be back."
