  • "Love the location, the outdoor seating, the service was OK. The evening we were there an idiot on a motorcycle parked directly in front of the restuarant was blasting music so loud the waiter couldn't hear our orders. After 15 minutes, the guy on the motorcycle left. The food was very good, kind of surprisingly good. When we arrived at the restuarant and were handed paper menus with stains on them, we were concerned that maybe this was a restuarant chain or a so-so restuarant in a tourist spot. The beef and pork were supurbly prepared. Cocktails were well done and delivered promptly. We did feel a little rushed at the end of our visit to clear the table, but when I pushed back it was fine."

  • "Overall experience was good. We went on Christmas Day. It's expensive but we expected that. Atmosphere was just ok, could've done so much more to make it more like Christmas ie crackers on the table, Christmas music etc. food was nice, service was very good..very helpful."

  • "After looking at 1640 for several days prior to a visit to Quebec, my group (4) decided to try it. There were numerous times available on OpenTable so we decided to go without making a reservation. When we arrived at 6:45 the Host said the entire restaurant was booked full. I responded that there were numerous reservations remaining online. He did not care. My group moved to the bar, where I proceeded to make a reservation on OpenTable for 7pm. The Host also did not care. This restaurant does not honor the online reservations from Open Table and should not be listed there. I could have booked numerous tables that night online. After NO help from the host we sat at the bar and had a nice meal and drinks. I would not go back."

  • "The first thing that I loved was how they kept accommodating our time changes (Stuck in traffic driving up from Boston, we called twice to change our reservations by 30 minutes) We requested and snagged a corner spot outdoors. The wait staff was really knowledgeable about the wines and I loved the wine and food pairings he recommended. It didn't seem like he was pushing expensive wines just to run up our bill! I don't remember what we had for food (I'm catching up on reviews 6 months later), but it was delicious. We weren't rushed at all... and as twilight set in, we had a guy belting out Edith Piaf on his accordion a few yards (metres!) away from us which just added a hint of romance to the evening! I'd visit again if I am in town again!"

  • "Restaurant 1640 was very accommodating of our large group, even when we grew from the reserved 12 persons to 14. They even offered to do separate checks for us, which was much appreciated. Service was good, and accurate, despite our large group. Prices are in line with other neighboring restaurant. Food quality was good, and presentation was excellent. Overall we were quite pleased."

  • "We booked a reservation b/c 1640 is right across from where we were staying (Le Chateau Frontenac) and weren't into a "fine dining" experience that night, just easy and this review is within the context of the casual restaurant chosen. The food here really sucked. After passable app's (decent cup of soup and Caesar salad), the entrees were basically not edible. Long story short, all entrees were bad (pasta w/ chicken and "crisp" veggies [in a gelatinous sauce]), pasta and meatball (one) with unbelievably overcooked pasta), kids hamburger (good size, completely not edible), pork chop (tasted unlike pork or anything else meat-like). Indifferent service. Word is that breakfast is OK. I'll never find out. BTW, Quebec City is beautiful."

  • "The food was very good. Service was nice, but a little slow on wine!!! The waiter did send over a glass of wine because they were so slow. Shame on me I can't remember what we had. But we did like it. Would definitely eat there again."

  • "My partner and in-laws loved the place. Best breakfast we had in Quebec City and we are only sorry we did not also choose it for dinner. Next time. Extremely friendly service made us feel very welcome. One of the rare places we chose to eat at more than once, because of this....and the tasty food as well. Personally, as a New Yorker, it is hard to please me with any bagel breakfast, but the bagel with salmon, cream cheese, capers, lettuce and tomato was very, very good."
