this family run authentic Japanese restaurant is both elegant and creative. It far surpasses most Manhattan Japanese restaurants. It is not near the subway, but the bus from the subway stops 1/2 block away. If you are driving, parking is ample and free on the local streets. We live in the neighborhood and enjoy strolling to it.
Give this place a try - it is truly a precious gem. My only complaint would be the faux-jazz music. Perhaps we can ask them to change that. For fresh food and creative and elegant presentation, Katsuno has it!

Had the salmon and sea urchin salad. A little pricey but it was tremendous. Also had the sea urchin with tofu--this was good as well. Having a big appetite, I also had a variety of sushi (tuna, salmon, yellow tail, tobiko, and snowcrab California roll). All were very fresh. I love tobiko and this was the best I've had. The California roll had real snow crab and was worth the extra cost. Overall a great restaurant with great food.

Not your typical Japanese
Not your typical Japanese restaurant. They are really serious about their food and eating here is comforting. I recommend the sashimi, miso cod, teriyaki, and beef filet mignon katsu with demiglace. Their tempura, dark miso soup, and chawanmushi are also so delicious! The owner is very nice too and remembers you after a couple of visits.
