Classic SF Italian
They have been around (in a few different locations) forever. They call themselves the Oldest Italian Restaurant in the USA and maintain a tradition. All the usual menu items with a few non-italian goodies thrown in -- like Ceasar Salad and
Feducinni Alfredo. We love the consistancy but miss the old location on Washington Square.

I was visiting from Delaware and Fior D'Italia was recommended to me by some coworkers who lived in San Francisco as a place to stop. I was not disappointed by their recommendation. I sat at the bar and befriended some locals. Good food, my favorite wine was in stock, great "dessert" (Tiramasu Martini) and wonderful staff made this a place I will certainly go back to the next time I'm in the area!

I love this place. They make the best Cosmos here. Its always so comfortable, we are making this a regular spot for us. The Happy Hour is the best. Even call drinks are half off, you never see that. I love their pasta I grew up in an Italian family and am very picky when it comes to Italian food, this place doesn't disappoint.

We had the most wonderful server that made our experience so special! The food was amazing! From the second we arrived to the moment we left it was perfect.

What excellent Italian cuisine and fantastic service. From the oso buco to excellent traditional pasta dishes. We will be back.

Best gnocci in town!
Quality of food was outstanding. Gnocci are pillow light and luscious. Service top notch and the room is so beautiful! Be sure to give it a try. We went for lunch and will soon return for dinner. Prices are VERY reasonable for the quality and ambiance.

We had osso bucco, the rabbit, and lasagna and all were very good, some of the best around. Service was friendly and efficient. Ambience was very pleasant and the prices were reasonable for what you received.

Great place, great ambience
Really enjoyed the place. I've watch this restaurant for the past year as it refurbished and then re-opened but finally went tonight. Glad I did, great service, great food, great ambience. The ceasar salad and risotto with mushrooms were terrific. Should have gone sooner, but will go back again often.

Old San Francisco treat
I brought friends with me who had never eaten here before. I had remembered this place when it was at another location and loved the food and service. The staff at there new location was wonderful and the food was excellent. Don't worry about enough food to eat. This is not one of those small plate places. We had seven different entrees in our group and they all were delicious and plentiful.

A great find!
A wonderful Italian restaurant, with excellent food, service, and ambiance. If you want to eat in a restaurant where you are not squeezed in among other tables and you get friendly, attentive service, this is the place. The food was delicious, and not over-salted, as in many restaurants. Everything tasted fresh and savory. The helpings were more than generous. We ate there two nights in a row because we liked the place so much, and definitely shall return again. Valet parking also is very convenient in crowded North Beach.

Fior D'Italia is the Best!
I arranged a business dinner for a VIP at Fior D'Italia and the Experience - from the greeting at the front door , to the wine and table service, to the quality and taste of the food - was Five Stars! We had a serving of fresh pasta and my VIP guest commented "I haven't had pasta this good since I was in Italy".
7/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
We picked this restaurant based on recent reviews. We were not disappointed. It has wonderful old world ambiance and was very family friendly. Entree choices were amazing which made it hard to decide so we ordered different items and then passed around. Lasagne, Osso Bucco, Black Truffle Risotto and bolognese dishes were fabulous. Portions were abundant and flavors delectable.
We will be returning at again but this time with the whole family.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was good. Service was good. I drove 105 miles to the restaurant. Well worth the drive.

Fior d'Italia is within a short walking distance from our hotel by Fisherman's Wharf. We were greeted warmly and received a lot of attention from our very charming waiter. The menu provides a lot of choices. I had the ravioli bolognese, which was beautifully presented and delicious. The restaurant is attractive and the service is wonderful. It was the perfect, relaxing end to a very active day.

Love Love Love Fantastic Italian!!!
We had never been to this restaurant and oh we're we wowed! Amazing soups, crunchy and fresh calamari, I had halibut which was out of this world, two of us had gnocchi and it was made fresh, best gnocchi ever. The Pasta Fagioli, schwing!!!! Amazingly good. And probably the most fresh and homemade fettuccine Alfredo I've ever eaten. Well worth the trip, and service was like a 5 diamond restaurant. Total bill four 4 including tax tip drinks around $175, and we had Martinis and multiple glasses of wine.

Good food but disappointing service
Having eaten here on multiple occasions, we have come to expect a warm welcome, with great food, environment and service. On this particular occasion all was as expected, except for the service which was weak at best. On this night we weren't told of specials, the time between courses was extremely long, our courses were brought out of order with the waiter bringing the entrees first, having forgotten our salads. He didn't attend to empty wines glasses and never expressed any apology for the service mis-steps. Oh well, I'll chalk this experience up to a bad night for the waiter as the service of other waiters has been top notch in the past. I'll hope for, and expect, better next time. Great bar with fantastic happy hour prices.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
I make it a point to dine at Fior D' Italia every time I am in San Francisco.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
We highly recommend the place
We highly recommend the place hands down! WE can't wait to go back.
8/28/2013 5:00:00 PM
Despite moving again, the food was excellent. Homemade fresh pasta was al dente upon request. As with most restaurants, there is too much salt (as in the pasta and bean soup), but the quality and preparation was excellent. Deserves to stay around for more than a century..

Returning to Fior D'Italia
My partner and i had been to the previous incarnation of this restaurant, but not to its new home. If anything the ambiance of the new restaurant is a bit more elegant (in a restrained way) and the food absolutely tops. My partner is much more of a foodie than I, and we both agreed on that. Service was friendly and attentive without being hovering. Would definitely return and would regard it as a good place to take friends, from SF or from out of town.
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Was in San Francisco for a conference and decided to try this place out. The food was amazing. The staff was wonderful. We really enjoyed our visit. Very elegant, yet laid back, which was very nice. The house Cabernet was great, I definitely recommend it. If I find myself in San Francisco again, I would definitely visit again.

SF legend / Wonderful Pasta
It would be enough to make many people want to see a real comeback story as it plays out: "Executive Chef rescues America's Oldest Italian Restaurant..."
But in a town where there are many restaurants with pasta that is 'good enough', the homemade pasta at Fior d'Italia is exceptional. Exactly as my wife would expect from her home in Italy. Everything we ate was really fresh and good.
The attentive, friendly service and romantic ambiance made our 7th anniversary dinner special. We will be back
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had a great lunch at Fior d'Italia. We ordered the salmon and chicken. The salmon was delicious, well cooked and great color. The chicken was very good. The veggies were well cooked. Portions were very generous. We indulged and ordered dessert and I had a cappuccino that was the best I've had. The tiramisu was a mousse which was vert tasty. We will be back.
9/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food; great atmosphere.
Warmly welcomed as soon as we walked in the door. Sat at a quiet and cozy table for two. Atmosphere old school Italian. Waiter attentive but not obtrusive. Great selection on menu. Caesar salad too cheesy, not creamy. Chicken was a bit dry.
Would give it another try just for the ambience.

Wonderful food and service
Wonderful food and service on a slow Wednesday. Once before, on a Saturday the place was crowded, but still great service! The minestrone soup is a must. Reported to be the oldest Italian restaurant in the Bay Area.

great, authemtic Italian food
Very nice ambience. Wait staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Food was delicious. Had the pumpkin ravioli with a side order of spinach. Zabione with berries for dessert. Valet parking. A great restaurant!

A Lovely Evening All Around
We joined friends at Fior and had great wine, great food and great service. Even though I think one of our waitstaff was in training, the service was always attentive yet not intrusive.

The oldest Italian restaurant in the country. Great food. Can tell it was made fresh!

A Great Try
Service and environment were top-notch. The staff could not have been more professional, friendly and well-versed in the menu. Unfortunately, some of the dishes were just OK which was really surprising. As nice as the atmosphere was, I still probably would not go out of my way to return; food was just too ordinary. Sorry guys!
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
We enjoy coming here, it's consistent with quality and taste. I would like to see more pasta dishes on the menu.

Had a Great first experience
My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary with a little night out (sans kids) and happened upon this restaurant without even trying to. It turns out that there were 2 birthday celebrations, one that had small children, but we couldn't even tell. (Note to self - great place for our next family gathering!) Then, we saw a young man propose to his beautiful and surprised girlfriend. Our dinners were great! I wanted to keep eating, even though I was full! Our celebration was perfect.

Best way to describe the "new" Fior D'Italia is personality. somehow they closed for 6 months but reopened with an even better personality. Very accommodating and excellent food. Make sure you hit the bar for a little fun after dinner.

Came highly recommended
We were a bit disappointed with Fior D'Italia. The bartender was great and, of course, happy hour was fabulous. Calamari was not available and we were looking forward to it. My dinner - rack of lamb tasted left-over and was over cooked. Same with the potatoes which tasted left-over and were a bit undercooked. My husband enjoyed his pasta but it came with a red sauce and he was expecting a white sauce. The Cream Brulee for desert was wonderful. We went mid-week and maybe the chef was off on that day. The wine list is extensive and moderately priced. If we ever go back, we will pick fish of the day or ask for a recommendation from the waiter.

Love love love this place!
The food was awesome! The service is great and I love how everybody is nice and makes you feel right at home. I would defiantly recommend this place to other people!

Best Service in town
The food was fantastic and the service was the best I've experienced in decades. Seriously! Our dinner was on a wet night when one guest got stranded and couldn't get to Fior. They let me leave my table (and wine) unpaid while I went to get my guest. Came back and the table was still there everything nice and neat. The waiter was uber-flexible and really cared that we had a great time. And they even got a taxi for my guest. I WILL BE BACK.

Perfect place for a group
Perfect place for a group gathering. Everyone in our party of 7 enjoyed their food immensely. The pumpkin ravioli was my personal favorite. Others had calamari, antipasto, lasagna, veal and spaghetti - all said their food choices were delicious!
11/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
My favorite dish so far is the ossobuco. I had that during this last visit and it was great. It was served with polenta. If you can, get any of their appetizers that have prawns. Both times I've had prawns there, they have been amazing. And last but not least, they have the best zabaglione I've ever had or can find in the area. Love it. Not to mention our servers are always great. We particularly like Gilberto.

Thanksgiving @ Fior d'Italia
We enjoyed a lovely meal, forgoing going turkey for an outstanding rack of lamb. Kitchen graciously prepared a half order of ravioli to satisfy my husband's family tradition. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. The pancetta- wrapped prawns appetizer were so delicious we wished we could have a few dozen more. Everything was wonderful from beginning to end. We had not been to Fior d' Italia in many years and were happy to find it was better than ever - although we do miss the Washington Square location. The window seats on Mason street are not worth requesting.

Best thanksgiving dinner
My mother turned 93 on Thanksgiving Day this year so I wanted to make it a truly special day for her. Our reservation thru Open Table was for 1 PM. The Fior opened at 1 PM and the dining room looked beautiful. We were greeted with " Boun Giorno" and seated promptly. A Prix Fix menu of $45.00 included Prawn Cktl, Homemade Pumpkin Ravioli with a Sage butter Pine nut sauce, Turkey with all the trimmings, homemade Cranberry sauce, and Homemade Pumpkin pie. All so delicious. My mother decided on the Rack of Lamb which was superb.
The service was excellent with plenty of staff.
I highly recommend Fior D Italia.

We happened to stumble upon this restaurant while walking through SF and decided to make a reservation. We are glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious. I had the seafood linguine and my fiancé had the pesto pasta. My fiancé even tried my seafood linguine and enjoyed it, even though he's not the biggest fan of seafood! We tried several drinks from sparkling wines to martinis and a port with dessert. Dessert was just as good; we tried the chocolate gelato and the caramel creme. The service was awesome - very attentive and made several suggestions when we couldn't decide. We definitely will come back and hope to try new things on the menu!
