This is a great find. The food is excellent, including a well-stuffed and juicy lobster roll, great lobster bisque and really good sea food.

Really Fresh Great Fish
Excellent food in place that's way to small. If you can stand the wait it is worth it.

I chose Billy's Boston Chowder
I chose Billy's Boston Chowder House because they have a long list of gluten-free options and, well, lobster! The food was delicious and the service impeccable. Billy came out to greet us and explain the menu. He returned to say the gluten-free pasta I ordered was cooking and offered us some complimentary chowder while we waited. I had the Manhattan (gluten-free) and my friend had the New England. She enjoyed hers as much as I enjoyed mine.
Even though my lobsta mac and cheese was made with gluten-free linguini instead of macaroni (they did tell me about that when I ordered), it was so good I ate every last bit.
I would definitely recommend Billy's to my friends and can't wait to go back and try some of the other many dishes.

Romantic Dinner for 2
We went to Billy's for our wedding anniversary and ordered the Lobster Fra Diavolo for 2 - GLUTEN FREE! It was wonderful! We love Billys! The food is better than most restaurants in downtown Los Gatos, and Billy's doesn't serve pretention, just excellent food made with good ingredients - and they have an EXTENSIVE GLUTEN FREE MENU - including a dedicated gluten free fryer, which since I have celiac is very important for me. We've eaten at a lot of restaurants worldwide, and we love Billys!

Very friendly service.

Loved it! Tried all 3 soups- fantastic. Lobster bisque was my favorite. But, both chowders were excellent. My lobster roll was perfect -- not too buttery, not too dry. Hubby loved his fried whole belly clams. Gets crowded on the weekends -- make a reservation!

Billy's Boston Chowder Lunch
Made the reservation through OpenTable and when we arrived, a couple arriving just ahead of us asked for the window table and were told that it was reserved. The table was for us! We had not asked for any particular seating so this was a fun surprise. It pays to reserve through OpenTable. Food was very good and the service was excellent! Parking is a challenge, but is an overall Los Gatos downtown problem.

Great Food! Great Service. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves New England seafood.

Amazing! Great food! The owner/chef came out and chatted with us for a while. He really loves his craft and food. Great food even learned some new things.

My 2nd time at Billy's...
My 2nd time at Billy's... food was great. I had another lobster roll, this time with dressing, instead of butter. It was very good, nice portion size. But, I like butter better. The lobster bisque was light with chunks of lobster in it -- delicious! My friend ordered the mac & cheese-- HUGE portion. We will back again!

I've been here several times
I've been here several times for both lunch and dinner and the food and service is always fantastic. Everyone I bring to Billy's always is surprised by the fabulous seafood that we've found hard to find in the South Bay.

Our first visit, and we will be back. We had calamari appetizer and lobster rolls, both very good. We brought our four-year-old granson for lunch, and they accommodated him very well.

Excellent bisque and cioppino
The lobster bisque alone would bring me back to Billy's Boston Chowder House - it was outstanding! The cioppino was also excellent with perfectly toasted garlic bread. The chowder, though, was a disappointment - not nearly as tasty as expected for a "chowder house". The lobster roll was also dry - I ordered it buttered but it had very little butter and no other dressing, just nice chunks of lobster. The cocktails (actually mocktails - they don't have a full bar) were also extremely tiny, but at least they didn't charge full price for a half size drink, so you can order two.

Lovely local dinner
We were in Los Gatos and wanted to try something new so we found this place on Open Table (good thing, it's kind of dark on the street outside we never would have seen it otherwise). We were quite happy with our"Sunday gravy" entree, buttered lobster roll, and trio of soups. Most diners online liked the lobster bique best but we preferred the 2 chowders. Lemonade was refreshing, server was totally on top of her game and the chef came out to chat with everyone-was clearly enthusiastic about the food. I liked the vibe and it's a place we would return to.

Lobster roll was very good
Lobster roll was very good although the roll was not traditional. I will try it with the more traditional hot dog bun next time. The oyster po-boy was excellent, again with non-traditional bread. My guest who had the oyster sandwich really liked the combination of the brioche bread with the oysters. The clam chowder was also excellent. I am anxious to try many other items on the menu. I always like it when there are so many attractive items that it is hard to choose.

Went for Mother's Day because
Went for Mother's Day because my wife loves sand dabs and they were on the menu. What a wonderful surprise! The food was very well prepared. The wait staff was excellent - attentive without being a nuisance. Billy, the owner, came out to check on things and to visit with diners. His gregarious nature is infectious. We had a nice chat. The menu brings New England seafood to California, but also incorporates California fish and flavors. We will he back!

Real Boston accents found there!!
The restaurant is small but not cramped. The oysters were sweet and fresh though with a bit more shell debris then typical. The bisque was rich comfort food. My wife had the lobster roll that was well stuffed with lobster meat. She would gladly ask for that entree again. Our guest had haddock and I had the sand dabs prepared piccata style. Very delicate and the picata sauce was perfect. One order of lobster macaroni and cheese for the table was more than ample for all. Sadly, the lobster traces were sparce and the cheese was noticably close in color and consistancy to nacho sauce. I suspect a mild white cheddar would complement the lobster better (if the lobster was more present). Our server(s) were attentive and friendly. We'll return.

It was our first time there
It was our first time there on Mother's Day. Not only was the food fabulous, but we were especially warmed by the initial greeting and interaction with the owner during dinner! As customers, that certainly made us feel special and valued! The food was enough to keep us coming back, but the warm welcome, great staff and excellent service have sent our mouths flapping to all our friends about the new gem in Los Gatos.

Great casual place!
We really enjoy the food and the friendly atmosphere. The lobster bisque is yummy! My sweet potato fries were just right. Billy is terrific and usually stops by each time we visit. It's so nice to be able to make reservation since sometimes it's really busy since it's not that big a place.

"New England" in Los Gatos
Billy's Boston Chowder House in Los Gatos is very charming, absolutely feels like you're in Boston. Our server was also charming and personable, but he forgot a few items that we needed to ask for. Once reminded, he was very prompt and attentive. Food was pretty good - the "dressed" lobster roll was wonderful, the New England clam chowder was really good. The lobster mac and cheese looked good, but had very little flavor, either of lobster or of cheese. We'll go back, but will be choosy on what we order next time. Parking is a problem in that part of town, so get there early so you have time to drive around and walk to the restaurant.

When we walked in, the owner
When we walked in, the owner walked up to our table and greeted us warmly. The only problem we had was choosing what to eat. Everybody looked so good. I strongly recommend the trio chowder sampler - my favorite was the lobster bisque. We had the lobster rolls, crab rolls, and salmon. Everybody cleaned their plate including all the sides. The bread pudding and blueberry cobbler was quite good also.

Where Have You Been?
You really can't see the place if you just drive by, unless of course your GPS says "destination". A very friendly restaurant serving old fashioned English cuisine. Loved the fish and chips, with thin crust and lots of fish inside and as Lucy would say, "and tasty too". Did not drink the wine. Dessert was awesome: bread pudding with ice cream. I am coming back to this place again.
6/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was excellent! Would definitely recommend the lobster bisque as well as the calamari. Everything was cooked well, the service was lovely, it's in a great location, and it was a cute little restaurant.
6/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not a particularly fancy place and not the best service in the world, but it's a good spot if you are just looking for some good seafood.

Authentic East Coast seafoood
Been trying to find seafood like you get back in Boston? Look no further than Billy's Boston Chowder House! Discovered this about a year ago and keep returning when we need a true "lobsta" and "chowda" fix. Billy (the owner) is often onsite and is very personable. Fish is always fresh and cooked exactly the way it should be - let the fresh fish do the talking without being overly dressed up with other ingredients. Very nice wine and beer options as well. Our waitress today was from Mass so we got a little Boston accent to go with lunch as well as catching some of the Sox game. Try the "lobsta" roll or the scrod and save room for Boston cream pie.

Had never heard of this place before as I rarely stray from University Ave in down town Los Gatos. So glad I did. The food was great (I highly recommend the lobster bisque) and the staff was unbelievably friendly. If you're looking for some comfort food east coast style, this is a great place! I will definitely be visiting again.

Great lobsta rolls
Chowda and lobsta rolls were delicious as were the French fries (hot and tasty). The staff is friendly and efficient.

Nice spot and excellent theme
First thing you notice about Billy's is the menu; a heavy use of local slang from the East Coast gives a feeling of being somewhere in New England. The decor of brick, wood, and sea-faring equipment is a good touch. Had the 'Lobsta rolls', chowder sampler, and Haddock dish; everything tasted great and fresh. Out of the chowder sampler, the New England clam chowder was hands down the best. The fries side dishes with the sandwiches were crispy and light on the oil (a huge plus). Will have to come back to try the cioppino next time!

My Cousin & I met at Billy's, where neither of us had ever been before. We found the menu very good, with many choices. The lobster on the lunch special was tender and delicious and I enjoyed the salad. The server was very friendly and we enjoyed dining here.
I will definately return to Billy's in the future.

We had our monthly luncheon here
We were the first to arrive at 11:30, but the restaurant soon filled up. We requested & were seated at a window table so as to be away from some of the noise. The service was very pleasant but erratic. There were 5 of us and we requested separate checks which our waitress agreed to do for us. That may be why our food arrived in batches and not all at once. The food was good. I was delighted to be able to have a sandwich with gluten free bread. My BLTA was a trifle dry and the bread a big crusty, but it is nice to be able to have a sandwich "out". This restaurant seems to be very popular with all ages. They had even put out a bowl of water & ice cubes on the sidewalk in front for dogs. There is a small sidewalk eating area in front.

Ate at Billy's for the first time, I had the special, Shepard's Pie, and my husband had the calamari and clam chowder in the bread bowl. All the food was great, service was good and there was even some live music. The only negative was the fact they were out of half their dessert, which was one of the main reasons we wanted to try the place-Wild Maine Blueberry Cobbler and Banana Bread Pudding! Apparently they were cleaned out of stuff during the previous weekends jazz festival. Oh well, I guess it just gives us an excuse to go back soon!

Billy's is Great!
Tonight, we had dinner at Billy's. I had wanted to take my husband here for dinner and it was a really good experience. We enjoyed our seafood salads very much. . There was a duo playing music and it was just too loud.
We will be returning to Billy's again soon

Yummy! Soup was awesome
This was real treat to find an east coast like restaurant in Los Gatos. Manhatten clam chowder is so rarely found out here and it was fantastic. Great sole, lobster, and boston baked beans.

As Good As Home
I'm from Boston,, and I can say that the Ipswich clams were absolutely as good as any I ever had at home. The chowder was perfect, too. One of us got a lobster roll, and it, too, was just like home, though you could order it a variety of other ways, as well. The only downside was the spinach salad, which was a bunch of spinach with a couple of slices of orange, a lot of raisins and a few almond slices - it needed something - the raisins didn't seem to belong in there. That said, we will go back very soon for the great New England food.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Lobsta Rolls remind me of the roadside seafood shacks found along the Atlantic coast. Like being transported to Nantucket!
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
The ambience and mood of the place is comfortable and unpretentious. If you want authentic tasting seafood as if you were in Boston Mass or in Maine this is the place to go. The clam chowder, lobster bisque, lobster rolls, seafood pasta all look and tasted exactly what I had in Boston and in Maine. Deliciously surperb and beautifully present dishes. We have dined there for brunch and again the food was absolutely deliciously sublime. It is a place we will definately go back again.
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had dinner at Billy's with work collegues this week. It was nice to be able to make the recommendation of this restaurant and know that the food is always consistently good. It was friday night and not too crowded or noisy. I have also been there for lunch and brunch which were equally good. Fun food, quaint atmosphere, good selection.

1st Time to Billy's Chowder House
The New England Clam Chowder in a bread bowl and the Calamari were delicious. There was live music playing but not too loud to talk. Our service was terrible. She was extremely slow, would leave dishes and drinks at the table when we were done with them, we would often have to wave her down or seek her out for attention.

Billy's is Great!
I, and a group of friends, drove over from Santa Cruz to Billy's after I had been raving about it on Facebook and they wanted to go. We had a wonderful lunch and a nice time. The chowder is the best I ever had and my friends who had it said the same.
One had the sampler with 3 soups and thought they were all incredible.
We will return to Billy's very soon.

The sand dabs were outstanding as well as the soft shell crabs. So good we are going back on Sunday for the same meal again.
The best we have ever had.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
great food! + Gluten free menu
We ate there on 10/25 for dinner.
The food was great! My husband got the calamari and fries, my grandmother got the fish and chips (gluten free), our son had chicken strips and fries, and I had the lobster bisque. My grandmother was very happy with the fish and chips, my soup was delicious and I ate every bite, the kids plate that we ordered for our son was huge compared to normal kids plate standards.
Everyone that walked in was greeted and sat quickly The waitstaff was very attentive. Our waitress was awesome, she was so sweet to our son and gave him a little after dinner treat (a little toy car) he was thrilled and so were we. It is rare to find a place that puts so much effort and value into all their customers, including children.

Seafood at Billy's Boston Chowder House is fantastic. What a find! I am glad to have found this place in Los Gatos. It's close to my house. The band is great. The service is fantastic. Nothing to say bad about the place.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
What a find! We were meeting a friend for lunch and wanted to find some place new and different. I checked Trip Advisor and found that this place was rated the seventh best in Los Gatos! Yes, indeed! Can't wait to go back. The server was very friendly and not in the least intrusive. The owner could be friendlier, but he does a great job with the food. He needs to at the very least acknowledge his diners.
But I can't wait to go back!

a Sunday evening out
We tried Billy's chowder house for 1st time. We were pleasantly surprised that it was so good. The service was excellent despite a seemingly busy Sunday evening. We were celebrating 2 birthdays (one belated) and when Marie our server overheard this, she offered us choices of 2 desserts and coffee. The 2 musicians, Aly & Gretchen were delightful and added to our experience. We will definitely return.
