I have been to all of the Samovar locations, and like this one the best. Comfortable, good service, wide variety of high-quality and interesting teas, and good food (I especially like the wasabi caesar salad with smoked salmon).

Samovar is a great place to share tea with a friend. Their teas are extremely high quality and brewed and served in a beautiful way by the knowledgeable staff. You can carry on a conversation in a normal tone of voice: how awesome is that?! Decent food selection with options for vegans and vegetarians as well. The Yerba Buena location has great city views.

a pleasant discovery in downtown SF
Friendly service, interesting menu if a bit pricey, especially the tea. Fresh, complex flavors, often unexpected but pleasing. Near convention center, so occasionally very busy (and they were out of one thing we ordered due to a big convention next door) but the setting overlooking the gardens is pretty and isolated from street noise and bustle. A nice experience overall.

For Business or with Friends
Great for both a business lunch and with friends. Beautiful setting with great service. Food is very good here too.

Lovely location, tranquil tea house, but a little pricey for the food.

Obviously, the tea at the Samovar Tea Lounge is excellent. My wife and I both had the Downy Tip white tea, and it is for treats like this that one should go to the tea lounge. We had lunch with an out-of-town visitor, and for food we all chose the Paleolithic service, consisting of kale, carrots, pumpkin, beets and a choice of smoked salmon or duck. The ingredients were fine and delicious, but seriously lacking in fat. A generous addition of lard to the kale would have made the meal a thousand times better!

We didn't eat but had some delicious tea while waiting to attend a party at SF MOMA. Others seemed to be enjoying their food. I also bought some bulk tea for home brewing. Definitely a great place and my friend and I will plan to enjoy some food next time.

Great place to meet for off-site meetings when attending Conferences in the area. Staff is polite, helpful and accommodating to different needs.

Everything was solid. The only "warning" I can give is make sure that this is your kind of place, basically make sure you and your group are really into tea or open to exploring it further. Otherwise it'll be kind of weird. Aside from that it's just about perfect.

International flair tastes great!
I love bringing foodie friends here since the menu and tea offerings are unusual and delicious. This place works for a special occasion, or as a comforting lunch with friends scene. You can't go wrong trying it out, and once you do there will be a place in your mind for the perfect Samovar Tea Lounge day.

Excellent Tea Service
We had the British tea service and the scones and clotted cream alone were worth ordering it again. Excellent and friendly service, too.

Samovar tea lounge is like entering another world. Beautifully decorated and the exotic food choices are so appealing.
The service was excellent and the atmosphere pleasing. I love the many vegan options. It was very difficult to choose what tea to enjoy since each one sounded so good. I wish I lived closer so I can visit more often!

Location *and* good tea snacks
The location of the tea lounge here would be enough to make it a winner, but they don't rest on their laurels. The tea is served in a classy but easy going manner, outside on various kinds of seating, or inside when the wind starts to chill. Add the little bites of cookies, scones, and combinations suited to the different teas on the menu that aren't phoned in (the scone comes with the american version of clotted cream...ie really sweet butter....which is a nice touch, and delicious jam) and i would say this place is worth a visit even for the locals. Service from our waiter was also polite and attentive but without being too much.

FABULOUS -good food, great location
Have eaten here 3 times this trip. Food is delicious and very fresh. Tea is great. It is a bit pricey, but overlooking the lovely gardens while enjoying the great food is totally worth it to me. The gluten free options also are wonderful - the waffle is amazing!

Creative set menu and teas
The menu had various set menus paired with tea, for example Paleolithic Tea Service wih Seasonal Tea, Moorish Service with Morrish Mint Herbal Infusion, Ayurvedic Tea Service with Masala Chai. The restaurant is very nicely laid out. The food was unusual and very good for the type of food that it was - e.g. the Paleolithic service with chevre-stuffed dates for dessert wasn't quite the same as a prime rib dinner with hot fudge sundae, but I really enjoyed it. The only small quibble was that in the late afternoon and early evening, the tall windows put the diners in direct sun. The staff could probably fix this by arranging the drapes to block the sun.

I brought my daughter and her friends here for lunch and was impressed with the tea service selections...it took out the need to guess what went well with which. My favorite was definitely the Japanese Tea Service with salmon and its lovely presentation. It was busy that day so I think the service was a bit off....but over all was it was good..I will definitely visit again.

Tea on the veranda
Great outdoor spot on a nice day! Enjoy the view across Yerba Buena Gardens park and the exotic teas, snacks and entrees at Samovar. Beware the birds of Yerba Buena - they are aggressive. One landed on our table and tried to make off with a bite of scone!

Always interesting and good
This is good spot for a business lunch or nice chat with a friend or colleague. Convenient and quiet downtown location. The food is always good and interesting. Not the same old stuff you find everywhere else. Good selection for vegetarians too.

Great for dinner before movie
My husband and I came here for dinner, after my previous visit with a girl friend for lunch. I had a tempeh/kale/squash/beet salad, and he had the "mini moorish" platter. The cheese filled dates are delicious! We ended up buying the Moorish Mint tea to take home with us, which is mint with a peppery kick, and a bit of green tea mixed in. The server was sweet and knowledgable, and the food came out quickly which was great as we were going to a movie at the Metreon next door after dinner.

I had lunch here with a friend I hadn't seen in more than 40 years. We sat outside, and we could hear the music that was being performed in the park below us, but it was still quiet enough for us to talk and catch up. The food was superb. I'm a vegetarian, and there were plenty of menu choices for me. It looked like there was plenty to satisfy meat-eaters as well. I had the squash dumplings and the jasmine tea lemonade, both of which I enjoyed thoroughly. My friend had the quiche, which he said was very good as well. We shared the Dandelion chocolate trio for dessert, which was heavenly. I would go back here any time there's an opportunity, and I will definitely recommend it to my friends.

Another great day at Samovar YB
I love this restaurant for so many reasons! The tea and the food are always delicious. The staff friendly and super accomodating. The location is beautiful, especially on a warm sunny day. I also love that they invite your to sit a savor you experience. I never feel rushed or like they are trying to turn my table which typically means I order and enjoy more of their wonderful offerings. I'll definitely be back. Oh and the waffle is to die for!!!

Get away inside the city...
What a wonderful place tucked alongside the highrises and skyscrapers...surrounded by the different parks and green areas and tons of water. A friend who frequents this location often took me on a tour of all the different gardens inside the area. The sound and low of the water cascading in and through all the different water features is magical. And then you have the direct view over to Old St. Mary's Church which makes it spiritual...peaceful, very meditative. I'll return often. And the very special Tumeric tea with the herbs floating @ the bottom will cure whatever ails you. Service is great. Food is wonderful...very fresh. I'll try something different each time I return.

Lunch with International Flair
I scheduled a lunch for four people at Samovar, and we were all pleased. Of course the selection of international teas is wonderfully unique, but the restaurant also has more traditional drinks and luncheon food for those looking for a more normal selection. We sat indoors but right by a large open door, so we had a pleasant breeze and view of the outdoors while still having the protection of a roof. Very nice experience overall.

Nice for lunch!
I was attending a conference at the Moscone center and had lunch here with a friend. It's a great location in the gardens with some outdoor seating. The tea selection is nice and the food tasty even if a little pricey.

I proposed here!
This place was so beautiful that I decided to propose to my fiancé here! The tea was amazing and food went very well with RT selection. I will definitely go back again!

Japanese Tea Service!
Samovar has become one of my favorite places to eat lunch while working downtown. The food is high quality, healthy and delicious! My personal favorite: the Japanese Tea Service and a side of Mochi (if you've never had the *SAVORY* kind, these are a must have!!!
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very Good overall
We could try different teas and main courses and overall was pretty good.

Great views, great tea pairings
Never in my life have I had a tea paired so well with the food (Moorish mint tea, hummus, eggplant dip, Greek Yogurt, etc). The views are also great.

not a huge amount of food but still did not finish. great ambiance, calming. had Tea and a meal Peaceful! All the food choices seemed healthy

Nothing like it!
Great location and our lunch was excellent. I had the turkey basil sandwich and my associate had the vegetarian quiche. Both outstanding! Many types of tea we could have tried but went with a refreshing lemonade ice tea. I noticed lots of local folks there on a Saturday for lunch and tea. Great spot to relax, hang out, enjoy your tea and take in the view and sun. I will come back next time I'm at the Moscone Center.

Best Lunch Location in Downtown SF
The sublime setting here makes you feel as if you're vacationing in a different city in the middle of the work day. The menu is unique and the execution quite nice. Highly recommended.
A great place to catch up with that friend you haven't seen in a while.
