The good... and slightly bad
First impressions are important, and the reason we keep going back to Palios is because our first visit there (Fall 2010) was outstanding. The lasagna was especially good. We've been there on a few occasions since then and the frank assessment is this: everything BUT the food has been fantastic. One visit the food was cold, and on another the food was like we were eating at another restaurant. Went most recently forums mother's 65th and have to say it was average again. Bill our waiter, however, was outstanding. Not only was the service great, but on our way out he grabbed an umbrella and escorted my mother to the Leesburg parking garage in a torrential downpour. Heckuva guy. We'll still go back for Italian in downtown Leesburg.

My previous review downgraded the restaurant because of it's service. The food was so good we decided to give it another try. Very glad we did! Still very good food and we had great service this time.

A Truly Lovely Dining Experience
Can't speak to the lunch/dinner menus, but brunch menu is fabulous! We were there for Saturday brunch - it was quiet w/only a couple of tables occupied, but was perfect for us! It was tough to choose, but mom & I finally settled on Eggs Benedict - made w/prosciutto & lots of spinach over rustic bread - fantastic, & the Fritatta, served with a refreshing small salad - flavorful & filling. We also ordered a side of crispy bacon - got several slices! The delish bread is served w/an olive tempanada & herbed olive oil - could've had just that & been happy! My mom just raved and we're both looking forward to going back very soon... & then again! Impressed with how reasonable prices were - expecting them to be much higher. Staff was perfect!

Our Dinner service for 14
Our Dinner service for 14 was very good. Friendly staff with great knowledge of their dishes. Cooking staff did a wonderful job on timing of meals. As we were a large group and everyones meals were different and they all came out at the same time and were all well prepared. A loving evening had by all!

have dessert first.
My second visit...tried the salmon which, I admit, was a bit overcooked. But who cares because the Tiramisu was -- breathtaking!

Much Better Than I Ever Expected
I made reservations with my parents for a nice and quite dinner out on a Friday night. There was the normal restaurants we attend but I wanted to visit a place I had not yet given my time to. I looked up Palio and noticed that some of the reviews were mixed on other sites. I decided to give the place a chance anyway. Not sure who is reviewing and leaving mixed feelings but my folks and I were incredibly impressed. The wait staff and service in general was outstanding. The food... There is nothing bad to say about anything we got here. We were all trying each others food and everything was to perfection. In short, we will definitely be returning. Compliments to the chef!

What a find!
My husband and I have been regulars at most of the Leesburg restaurants for years now (Tuskies, Jasmine, Doner, etc.) and always just passed by Palio not giving it a thought. We recently wanted a change from our standards and boy are we happy we did. Palio is authentic Italian. Amazing pasta selections, a rotation of wines, the staff is knowledgeable and attentive. We've had many a dinning experiences here in the last few months and consider ourselves regulars. Well worth the try and we hope it becomes a favorite of yours too.

An amazing meal!
We went to Palio to celebrate Father's Day. The service was excellent! Our waiter recommended a wine to compliment our meal and it was perfect! They created a pasta dish for my youngest daughter who didn't find anything on the menu that appealed to her. The staff was friendly. The waiter was wonderful with our children. He recommended desserts and explained them to each of us in detail. The entrees were perfectly prepared and presented. We had a wonderful experience and will return!

Two years in a row ...
Three friends came to visit again this year and just like last year asked to go to PALIO for dinner. Guess, this is going to be an annual event! The food was delicious, and the service (thanks to Bill) was superlative. We were never made to feel that we should rush ... even when we were the last people still seated on the top floor. Bill, then, went downstairs and set up a table for us near the jazz ensemble (excellent), so we could stay even longer having dessert, sipping limoncello, and catching up. All of us would highly recommend PALIO for a truly wonderful, personalized dining experience. Grazie!

A return visit after one year.
A return visit after one year. Some good fish choices.

Good Italian Food
The food was good, Service was great and very quiet since it was during the week. Would go back

Good Northern Italian
This was our third trip to Palio. The ambience and service are very good. The menu is small, but varied. I had veal, which I enjoyed. My wife had salmon, which she felt was somewhat tasteless, but well prepared. Great bread!
6/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent Food but a bit pricey
Great seafood Fra Diavolo. Great service. Bill was a lot higher than I expected for Italian. About $94 for two.
7/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our table was served by 3 or 4 attentive persons who were very polite and professional. The food is quite good. The small, overcooked shrimp in my special entree was disappointing, but the lobster cream sauce was perfect. I've eaten at Palio 3 times and will definitely return.

My husband and I go to Palio
My husband and I go to Palio every few months, and we really enjoy it. We usually reserve it for a special occasion or splurge.
We have always had great service, and Randy on Saturday night was no exception.
Our meals were all great. I always check the specials because they are usually quite special, and that was true on Saturday. I will say however that the caesar salad was mediocre, but that was the only thing that wasn't great. We had one of the special desserts, and it was phenomenal.
I suggest that if you want quiet meal conversation, request your table in a room that doesn't serve large parties. It makes conversation next to impossible. That is why I gave it 3 stars for ambience.
7/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food. Excellent service
While not outstanding food was quite good. Predictable Italian. Excellent waiter boosted it to a very enjoyable evening

Still the best Italian in Loudoun
Another great dinner. This is a very well managed restaurant with a very innovative kitchen that deserves mention among the very best fine dining restaurants anywhere. The manager has truly perfected the service solution, and has advanced the wine list to the point that it is probably the best within a hundred miles. This is the place to go for a truly great dinner in Leesburg - or lunch for that matter.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
We discovered this restaurant by accident, but we'll definitely be back! Great food and service at lunch time.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
We are thrilled to have found a great restaurant in our own back yard. The fresh homemade pasta is outstanding and the service was excellent. We will be back.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Facility itself was very well done. Historic bldg. in Leesburg redone quite nicely, keeping the beautiful woods etc. We had 7:30 reservation, were seated promply. Sevice was good. We had to ask for bread and it was an amazingly small serving for 2. My husband had Lasagna from the menu for $19. House made pasta was very good, nice tomato sauce. I had a special, Squid Ink tagliatelle with shrimp and crab meat. Very tasty, great pasta, 5 nice shrimp, crab meat was tossed into the pasta in incredibly tiny pieces and very sparce for $28. Maybe intended just to flavor the pasta. Restaurant has a very nice ambiance, fits well with downtown Leesburg which we love. Will definitely try it for lunch and return occassionly for special dinner.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food, staff & atmosphere were all excellent! This was our first time at Palio & we look forward to going more. Highly recommend!!
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome experience. The experience was exceptional from the moment we walked in. The building is beautiful. The service exceptional. The food was outstanding. We felt welcomed and special. Usually I'm pretty tough on restuarants, but this one is a gem!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've eaten here many times. Food is always fresh and service usually very good. Our last visit was not up to their usual standards with regard to service. Food was excellent. We will definitely go back.

Improved Menu, Attentive Service
It has been about 9 months since we last visited Palio. Since then the menu has been curated to include a well balanced, albeit smaller selection, of old favorites and new, seasonal additions. These changes combined with very attentive and friendly service made for a great evening.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was the second time we
This was the second time we went here. The frist time did not turn out so well but the manager made it up to us and we will continue to eat here. The food is good and the wine list is long, they have a great high end bar attomophere and outdoor tables. If you are looking for a good place for a date or a night out with your wife or friends this is the place for you.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice and Pricey
No Pork Chop should be $34 alacarte! It was thick and tasty though!
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
In the mood for pasta
This is an upscale Italian restaurant. My friend was a vegan and they were very accommodating and made her something off the menu. I had the salmon which was good. But between a pasta and a seafood entrees, I would definitely return to try a pasta dish.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food in a beautiful shell. Located in downtown Leesburg across from the Tally Ho theater, convenient parking within one block. Price was a bit high and I would not recommend for children but wonderful restaurant for a date night.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
would have given 5 stars
We ended up siting in the noisy bar area because our table was upstairs and I couldn't walk up the stairs and there weren't anymore tables in the downstairs dining. All in all service and food was amazing. We wil be back for sure!!!
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
A very good first experience
We had a discount coupon and decided to try Palio's for the first time - after passing it almost daily on Market Street as a Leesburg resident. The food was prepared very well, tasty, and innovative. The portions were great and the service was fantastic. I agree with several of the reviewers - the pricing is quite high. I disagree with the reviewers on one point...I found the wine list limited. Overall, it was a very nice experience; although it is my opinion that the better quality, better value Italian restaurant in our community is the Travinia Italian Kitchen in the Village of Leesburg.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Italian in Leesburg
We've been to Palio several times & love it. Beautiful location in Old Leesburg. Without succumbing to the clichés we see in so many reviews, we rely on our own experiences at other well-rated Italian places for comparison, including visits to Elisir, Al Tiramisu, Filomena, Fiola, Café Milano, Girasole, etc. Right up there with those. New additions to the menu were excellent....squid ink seafood Risotto was really good. Excellent service. Pastas are very well prepared and fairly priced for what they feature. Portions are what they should be. Gnocchi is often the test of a well-run kitchen & the skills of the chef. Theirs are light & outstanding not heavy & doughy like you often see. (Based on earlier visits). So we'll continue to go back!

Fine Italian Dining in Loudoun
Great Italian dining in Loudoun County in the heart of historic downtown Leesburg. What's not to like? Its a little pricey, but worth it. You would spend a bunch of money in gas driving to Fairfax (Zefferellis or Da Domenico). All courses are top notch, especially the deserts. Randy our server made the experience even better.

Leesburg's Best Dining Experience
A veteran of some of the DC area's truly great restaurants, General Manager David Saavedra continues to refine this truly outstanding Italian fine dining venue. Every time I visit I notice yet another service professional I have seen before in another great restaurant, a few new wines on the excellent wine list, and sometimes bold changes to the menu that the very talented and innovative kitchen executes to perfection. Chef Antonio Iazzetti is flawless in his presentations of superb, truly Italian food, and seems to always find a way to add a little excitement to the dining experience. I expect to see Palio at the top of most food critic lists very soon, as this is far from what we all come to expect from Leesburg. Great Job David!!!

Date night or any time!
Food was great - love the handmade, fresh pastas! Wine was superb. Table for two is great for hubby & me, but the kids love this place too - especially the pasta and the calimari!

Service + Food = Outstanding
The food was excellent, well prepared with wonderful flavors and great presentation. The service was fabulous. Our waiter provided great recommendations, anticipated every need and handled special requests with enthusiasm and an "Of Course" attitude. He made sure our party had a wonderful experieince at his table. Well Done!

Palio in Leesburg
Right in the historic part of town--- GREAT food. We go to meet the Chef (Antonio)--- he is from Milano. Fitting for a Northern Italian restaurant, the decor is almost as Alpine as it is Italian--- This is a great place and the food is wonderful. We will return.

First Time Visit
We picked this restaurant after a day of visting the local Leesburg area wineries. Located in the downtown area, the two story restaurant is nicely laid out and comfortable. Our server, Edurado was friendly and personable. Very diverse, but fresh local menu available either in a la carte or prix-frie (four course) style. Everyone in our party order a differnent dish. Food was quite good, especially the fresh made pastas. The service was above average, with the only issue, of bread dipping oil was spilled on a member of our party's sport coat by a server. Edurado was very apologetic and took the sport coat back to the bar area to try and clean the jacket w/ soda water. Most came out, but we will see what the dry cleaner has to say.

Great Find! Try the Gnocchi!
My wife and I came for our 2nd anniversary -- very nice, quiet, romantic atmosphere. Extremely clean and elegant with a nice little view of downtown Leesburg from our second floor table.
The service was great! We were waited on by a main waiter, and then a few different busboys, ensuring our table was clean without bugging us. The server made great recommendations for us based on what we liked, and he was spot on. The pesto gnocchi is the best I have ever tried, and definitely will be back to eat it again soon! the food was very fresh and as an Italian growing up with mom's home cooking, this is not your average Italian spot. Highly recommend it, and look forward to returning.

Palio is one of my favorite restaurants in Leesburg. It has a wonderful ambiance, the service is excellent, and the food is always outstanding. My most recent visit was on a Wednesday evening with a group of 4 friends. We arrived at 5:30 and the restaurant was quiet. By the time we left several hours later the "place was hopping". I had the Chicken Marsala that was perfectly cooked and would melt in your mouth; the Marsala Sauce was out of this world. I finished off my meal with the Zabaione con Frutti di Bosco - it was fabulous. I highly recommend Palio
11/5/2013 4:00:00 PM
Palio is certainly pricey, but the quality of the food, service and wine list make it worth the expense. You can tell this kitchen and the chef are talented, as everything was cooked to perfection. And the server provides food as wine recommendations that were not only delicious, but perfectly complimented each other, which just enhanced the experience.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Best meal at a fine restaurant in a long time and I eat at fine restaurants several times a week. Glad we took the drive there. It was more than worth it!
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
Recently celebrated a family event at Palio. The food was good and the service was excellent. The food portions were smaller than you would expect for the price.

Surpassed All of Our Expectations!
We had a perfect dinner on a weekday evening. Both the food and the service were outstanding. Excellent jazz trio playing in the adjoining bar. The ambience was very quiet and romantic. Our first time there but will definitely return for many more. Palio is definitely now on our favorite list.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
Nice but pricey
The ambiance at Paolio's was very nice: quiet, good music playing. The service was very good, a little spotty at times. The food was good and we enjoyed it, but I thought the prices were too high for what we actually received. My husband and I shared the appetizer, salad and dessert that came with my fixe prixe meal, and he ordered an entree and one glass of wine. With tip it was over $100. I just thought I might be a little more "wow'd" by the food, but it was just fine
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was excellent, service was outstanding with several suggestions that were right on. Outstanding wine list. Great location and atmosphere.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
My wife and I were enjoying a weekend getaway at Landsdowne Resort and this was to be the capstone romantic evening meal...they did not disappoint!! Food was excellent, service was Five Star, the wine was terrific and the open and spacious setting was nice and afforded privacy so that our conversation was not shared with all of the neighbors! I really enjoyed the setting and decor...almost felt like stepping back into the nobility lifestyle with a very modern and connected waitstaff. My compliments to the waitstaff in particular...I look forward to coming back again!!

Excellent food, excellent staff, nice atmosphere. The 2nd floor overlooking market street is desirable.
