The Best Restaurant in Solvang!
This is not only the best restaurant in Solvang, it's one of the best meals I've had all year. My boyfriend and I came here from Los Angeles for our 2nd Anniversary. We showed up for our reservation 45 minutes early and they were happy to seat us. However, the place is small, so they did turn away many walk-ins while we were there. Sit outside if weather permits. Our waiter was more knowledgeable about wine than in any tasting room in/around town and made us feel so special and welcome. I asked him if I should get the charcuterie plate or save room for dessert. He said it wasn't a question, take the charcuterie, they make all of theirs in house! He wasn't wrong! They even sent us away with a free celebratory dessert. We are fans for life!

Succulent Cafe & Trading co. is a wonderful find in Solvang ! Seasonal menu was perfectly laid out with a perfect balance of starters to main entrees. Wine selection was excellent and serice was attentive yet relaxed. Make a reservation since the room is quite small and is heavily suggested by many locals.

Outstanding wine country dining
A truly outstanding restaurant. Nestled among the wine tasting rooms and hotels in Solvang, is an absolute gastronomic delight. The Succulent Cafe features a small menu of amazing dishes that highlight local ingredients and outstanding local wines. The setting is similar to eating in a country kitchen, with friendly, knowledgeable staff. There are only about 10 tables, so plan ahead. It is far and away the best food between Santa Barbara and Paso Robles. Wine country dining at its best.

Best Kept Secret in Solvang
We had a wonderful meal here. It's a very small room, so be sure to make a reservation. The scallop salad appetizer had us moaning, as did the short ribs and hangar steak. Portions were adequately large but not overwhelming. Seasoning was Perfect on everything. Often when we dine we discuss how we would change the seasonings to better suit our own tastes, but not here. Everything was perfect! This place won't be a secret for long. Kudos to the chef and staff at Succulent!

As locals, we've eaten here many times. The food is always delightfully eclectic, always delicious. It can cool off quickly here in Solvang, so if you're planning to sit at one of their outdoor tables, it's a good idea to bring a jacket (even the overhead heaters don't keep me warm enough if I'm in short sleeves, and I live here so I should know better!). Can't wait to experience the new expansion!

The name of this place is very appropriate. The food was indeed Succulent! Great Menu choices, great portions, great service, and great prices. We come up to this area a lot from LA and had our rotation of restaurants and now this one has gone to the top of our rotation!

2) No reservations needed for breakfast or lunch. Stand in line and order. They'll give you a number and bring you your food.
3) They're not open every day. Lucky for them, unlucky for us.

Our order somehow did not get into the system and we had to wait for almost an hour, but the food and the service were worth the wait. Our waiter was very attentive and good natured. We got a free appetizer and a free desert out of the ordeal. The food was outstanding. It is a very small restaurant, so make reservations.

Solvang's best kept secret!
What an amazing little place with the most amazing food! If you come here, be sure to have a reservation because you will get turned away. As we ate dinner before the Solvang play, we watched many unfortunate people rejected for dinner. I believe about everything on the menu is delicious! I'm definitely going again when I return to Solvang.

My favorite restaurant in Solvang
I would eat here more often if they were open more days! Open Thurs-Sat. That might change when they expand (I hope!). If you order the cheese platter, you will have a nice little appetizer, then save the other half for dessert. This is easy to do since there is so much on the platter. Succulent has many local wines by the glass or bottle and the food is the freshest in the area. LOVE this place for dinner and lunch. I have never had breakfast at Succulent, but have heard raves from my friends who have. If you value good clean flavors and superb ingredients, you will not be disappointed.

I was in Solvang for a few days and tried a few nice restaurants there. Succulent cafe was one of them. It is a very unusual place with unique approach to food. Definitely try their cheese plate and artichoke feta dip. The waiter who is a brother of the owner was very friendly and warm. Highly recommended!

Food was absolutely delicious. Easily ranks as one of my favorite restaurant meals of all time. Enjoyed the short ribs and grits, local produce, appetizers and desserts. Our waiter was knowledgeable and provided great tips and suggestions. Loved the high-end gourmet food in a casual atmosphere. Great for after a day of travel and wine tasting.

Great place for foodies!
This restaurant was recommended to us by one of the wineries. They mentioned that it was a great little place if we could get in. I used my cell phone and booked us a reservation immediately. So glad I did! The place is a charming little restaurant in downtown Solvang with a rustic but upscale element to it. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it works. We opted for the clams as an appetizer...amazing! Their little biscuits are so delicious! Our group of four shared the short ribs and the porchetta, also great! The wine list is comprehensive. The server, friendly and helpful. What a great find!! I would definitely recommend and go back!! I can't list it all...you have to go there.

Very good modern cuisine
The space is quite small with most of the dining area outside. We tried nearly every dish on the menu (sharing) and all items were very good. This surprised me as many times we feel there are only a few standouts on the menu. Not so, for this place = all winners. Wine list is reasonably priced and mostly local wines, as to be expected. Staff is very attentive and helpful. Very casual atmosphere. No A/C inside so it can get warm. Nice to have the outdoors option.

Best restaurant in town
Succulent cafe somehow manages to extract every ounce of delicious flavor from everything they make. The cheese plate is pure magic: it includes honey comb, housemade jam, dried fruits, olives, nuts and other delicious things. Robert, our server, is the man.

Interesting menu, all fresh ingredients. The Sea Bass with Pinot Noir shallot reduction was cooked to perfection and paired nicely with Fiddlehead 728. The lox pizza was delicious. Short ribs tasty sauce, my friend would have liked to have the fat trimmed. Tiny biscuits with jam an interesting starter. Knowledgeable owner.

Stick with basics
We love this little place, recently enlarged, the wait staff was extremely courteous and solicitous. Our short ribs and pork were tender and the sides were delicious. The pasta, however, was a BIG disappointment. It was a Tiny portion and was VERY overcooked. I'd recommend sticking to the basics next time.

I recommend using a thermometer when cooking the chicken. They brought to my wife and I the fried chicken and they was still bleeding. They took them back and returned they still bleeding. We ended up changing our orders to meatloaf and the short ribs. All of this could have been prevented had they used a thermometer. Other than that the food was good.

Luscious and fun!
Delicious, expertly prepared food with imaginative and exciting flavor combinations. Plenty of variety on menu, yet not an overwhelming number of dishes. Fabulous wine list, loaded with local gems at reasonable prices. Exceptional service and hospitaly. Host/owner/sommelier Robert was warm, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable about every menu item and wine. We felt like we were celebrity guests in his home!
Our selections -- house-made charcuterie, butternut squash ravioli in a sage mornay sauce, porchetta with white beans, chocolate cinnamon creme brulee, Longoria Syrah '05. All killer delicious!
Must return. Often!

A Perfect Combination &Sublime Meal
What a delight when there is a selection of dishes that are cleverly innovative in their combinations and in the hands of an excellent chef who will do them justice.
Olives marinated in fennel and orange: selection of olives, green and ripe paired with homemade crostini. We had fun picking our favorites; all were delicious.
I lived in Italy 20 yr so was hesitant but the pasta was sublime: pappardelle were homemade, asparagus thin, market fresh and tender-crisp, mushrooms flavorful, walnuts crunchy, parsley fresh, and the blue cheese was the crowning achievement of the dish- just enough to add a bit of zing, making the dish outstanding. Robert's (the sommelier) recommendation for wine was spot on: Ampelos Pinot Noir which combined expertly.

They have the best eggs benedict, great lunch choices and wonderful dinner selections. Everything is always beautiful to look at and tastes even better. Reservations are a good idea for dinner.

Loved everything about Succulent!
Dining experience was wonderful from the moment we walked in on Friday evening. Staff was very attentive and friendly from the host to Ashley our server to Robert the manager. Everyone knew their role and played it perfectly.
The food was out of this world. The tiny biscuits with wine jam were a nice accompaniment to our wine. The appetizers - beet salad and crepes with goat cheese and dates- were inventive and delicious. Note: the menu changes so if these are not available try what's offered. The scallops with bacon were yummy and the lamb was amazing. Everything was well prepared and graciously served. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful.
This would be my favorite place at home.

Great little restaurant
My girlfriend and I ate here on Friday night and loved it. She had the sea bass and I had the chicken flatbread special. Both were outstanding. The mini biscuits they serve as bread are great as is the dipping sauce they provided. Prices were reasonable. Not a fancy/stuffy place at all. Somewhat plain inside but it had a nice ambiance. Great food, nice staff...works for me!

Great Food in Solvang
Portland in Solvang. Best breakfast in the area, but I wish they could fix eggs other than poached. Luch is fabulous with a great selection. Meat loaf to die for. Bisquets are served at breakfast and dinner.

A Saturday Nite Dinner To Remember
This Solvang restaurant has a relaxed feel, an Imaginative menu and a impressive wine lists of the best local wineries. The service was very friendly from an experienced staff. I had the rack of lamb which was exceptional and my wife had the beef tenderloins which she enjoyed. The duck confit crepe appetizer was perfection! The food is great value for the quality. Every meal is presented with homemade biscuits and jelly. One of the best restaurants in the area serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in separate areas including a lovely outside patio.
