Our first time there in February
Our first time there in February was not so well. However, after receiving a gift card from the first review we decided to try it again. What a world of difference. We will definitely return!

The food was quite good but
The food was quite good but not much better than what one could find at any of the chain mexican joints in town (or even in the suburbs), and for the price I expected better. It does stand out by the variety of it's choices though, diverging from the tried and true. The margaritas truly were excellent but waaaay overpriced. I'd only go back during happy hour.

Brunch was great with a big group!
We went there for a Bridal Brunch celebration. It was fabulous. A pretty quiet morning in the restaurant. They were very accomodating and made sure that we had all we needed to get set up. The server was great and very attentive. The drinks are awesome. My favorite thing about this place is the GUACAMOLE MENU!! So yummy. The rest of the food is pretty fab too.

Great food, outstanding service and can't believe I haven't been here yet, I see Casa del Barco as a new hangout. Try the matador and the habanero & mango guac - delish!!

Guac & Enchiladas
We had the perfect combination of warm Spring evening, outdoor dining, and great friends, and Casa del Barco rounded the night out perfectly by providing attentive and knowledgeable service along with good food.
We sampled two different guacamoles, both fresh with huge chunks of avocado.
Three of us ordered the roasted mushroom enchiladas, and all of us devoured every bite.
Each drink served was delicious, and our server's recommendations were spot-on.

I'm not sure why people complain so much about the prices.. we ordered a lot of appetizers and several entrees, which were fairly large portions. The food was amazing!! Our waitress could have paid attention throughout the time we were there instead of just at the end, but since the food was so good that did not ruin our experience. We were a group of 7 and not one person had a complaint about the food or prices! The lobster ceviche and queso dip were absolutely delicious!! I will definitely be going back for more and I would recommend Casa del Barco to anyone who loves food!

Very different 'mexican'!
This was very different from any other mexican restaurant we have been to. It was very good but not your typical chips and dip. Actually, nothing was brought to the table to munch on before the meal. The fish taco's were very good and the atmosphere is interesting.

Loved the food, ambiance and energy of this new gem in downtown Richmond. Will definitely be back...often!!

First visit to CdB-Will return
Stevie, the server, was wonderful. Friendly, knowledgeable, and excited about the restaurant. Mango and habenero guacamole very flavorful and a large portion for 2 to share. Special was a skirt steak- wanted rare and came out rare. Queso fresco enchiladas very good- almost like a lasagna. Portions generous, but not too much. Could finish if hadn't eaten appetizer. Extensive cocktail list. 130 bottles of tequila available. Had sipping tequila for dessert. Valet parking $6, same as evening rate in parking lot.

Delicious upscale Mexican
Delicious upscale Mexican cuisine. Unique menu offerings, the roasted duck enchiladas were fabulous! The fried plantains oh my, so good!!! Great service and atmosphere we'll be back.

The House Boat
Casa Barco means houseboat and is set on the Richmond canal walk. I hadn't been down there in years and while it is not yet the San Antonio Riverwalk, it has improved a lot over the last 10 years. And Casa Barco is a great start. Since it is a Mexican restaurant, they do not have an extensive wine list, but instead they have an extensive tequila list with many extra Anejo selections. If you have never tried an extra Anejo tequila, then you need to. It is not your college tequila. These tequilas are close to fine cognacs and many people would have a hard time even recognizing them as tequilas. The food is clearly a step above from the normal Mexican fare in Richmond.

Fine Outdoor Dining, Mexican Style!
Finally found a restaurant with outdoor seating that has a view of something other than parked cars! Wonderful Mexican food similar to a nice restaurant in Mexico or Southwest US. Huge selection of tequilas and beers and a nice variety of wines. Only one rum drink, but the Kracken mojito was rico! We shared the crab guacamole and 2 different empanadas -- roasted pork and shrimp. For the main courses we had the seafood enchiladas, the fish tacos, the slow roasted pork, a side order of the corn bean and squash stew, and the pescado del dia which was trout. All were fabulous! Don't miss the fried ice cream and the flan. We will definitely return to try the ceviche. Food delivery was a bit slow, but our server was great.

Perfect end of the day!
After enjoying a day at Tredegar and Belle Island Casa del Barco was a great way to end our day!!
5/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
We ate outside and it was a perfect setting by the canal. Server attentive and well-versed on menu. Drink list fun & food excellent. Loved it!
6/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food is amazing, service is fast and courteous (ask for Taylor, he was attentive and knowledgeable!) Fabulous tequila options.
6/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Loved it - again! Shared the crab guacamole and could lick the bowl every time. Then ordered the duck enchiladas. MUCH better than the duck tacos. Plenty of meat, delish verde without being overpowering. Comes with beans and rice, both of which were tasty as well. Usually rice is dry and flavorless when accompanying a Mexican entree. Not here. Their attention to detail is GREAT!
6/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
What a wonderful dining experience! The atmosphere is interesting, the food excellent, and the service on point! Run don't walk to dinner.

A great evening with friends
We ended up eating and talking and sharing for 3 hours. I love their chips and the guac menu. My friends didn't dig their food so much. The margaritas were very good. Service was great. Atmosphere was great.

Drinks are excellent. The food is very good. Our server Kevin was terrific. Very attentive and friendly. Love the location of the place along the canal. It's a great option for in town dining.

Loved the food. Great flavors
Loved the food. Great flavors and ample potions. The different guacs are awesome! Server was informed and very professional. The food runner was the only down side. He just felt like he did not fit in. No customer service and it seemed he could not set the food down and get out of there quicker. Maybe a bad night for him. Will go back for sure and hopefully get a runner a little more cheerful!

Nice upscale Mexican food
Went for dinner before Friday Cheers on Brown's Island since the restaurant is just a short walk from there. Had no problem getting a reservation for a party of 4 at 6:45pm. Decor and ambience cannot be beat. The bar seen was hopping since it was a Friday after work. The cocktails and margaritas are fantastic. Not your traditional giant Margarita that requires 2 hands to hold the glass but thoughtfully crafted cocktails that were delish. Our party had chips/salsa, fish tacos, and pork tacos and every bit was superb. Something to note is that parking is limited, therefore they have valet ($6). Highly recommend this place.

Dining on the canal
Fun, lively and tasty experience. Noisy, not great for serious chatter. Good casual spot.

Came for my 21st birthday
Came for my 21st birthday for the first time. Drinks were great but strong!! Service was very good-knowledgable and helpful but not pushy and overbearing. I got salmon and it was cooked to perfection. I sat outside, and looking out at the canal was definitely not a good setting. It seemed vibrant and loud inside, so I'd have to try eating in there next. Food overall was good, but the setting did bring down the review a little. Still recommend it, especially for happy hour!
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I were presently surprised by our dining experience. We had heard many good things but a few bad things as well. While the place was busy it was not swamped. We had an excellent waitress and the food was incredibly tasty. Truly, this was one of the more flavorful meals I have had in a long time. It was just pork tacos but they were great. My wife had the pork entree and it was phenominal as well. Great drinks and wide selection. Nice long bar with a constantly changing crowd. Interesting decor and has outdoor seating as well. Nice view of the riverwalk and murals. i would highly recommend.

Better each time!
This is my fourth time dining here and each time I've had an incredible meal. Love the ambiance, eclectic menu, fabulous food and wonderful tequilas. Knowledgeable staff. Convenient and friendly valet parking. Looking forward to my next meal at Casa del Barco!

office lunch - group
Great for finding a table for 8 at lunchtime. Huge place and quiet (little to no people) for lunch drowd. I hear its a great happy hour locale! Right off the canal - very cool atmosphere.
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Check it out!
Amazing food (steak tips & bacon guac in particular)! Over 100 tequilas available!

Very good food, service, view
4 of us ate at Casa Del Barco August 6th. We had delicious margaritas at the bar (1/2 price until 7:00) then enjoyed a great meal on the patio overlooking the canal and the old power plant. Fascinating actually. Food was hot, flavorful and plentiful and was priced affordably. This isn't Taco Bell or any other local Mexican place so expect a nicer touch on the meals which justified the mid teens pricing. Bill for 4 of us with 1 beer each was just at $100.00 with tip. Guacamole is great!
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great dining experience
The bacon, tomato guacamole is awesome! I'm always impressed with their food presentation. I miss the bottles hanging from the ceiling, but I understand that you had to remove them. I'll be back.
8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was very delicious and drinks were the best. Great place for couples and groups to go and have a good time while snacking on the delicious food.

Mexican/Latin to another level
The food here is not your typical TexMex/Southwest, its been refined and modified. If you are looking for your mega-selection of tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, etc. this is not for you. All selections we had were very well prepared, skirt steak, pork loin with accompaniments which complemented each other. Menu changes with availability of ingedients. Guacamole was better than what we have had in Mexico. Tequila aficionados, this place is for you. The selction of tequilas seemed to exceed what was offered in the food menu. We will return, you should go also.
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a going away party...they accommodated 10 of us and the server did an amazing job keeping drink and app orders coming and food was perfect, no mistakes! He was well versed in the menu, drinks and specials. Friendly, swift, quick to clear, great suggestions.
8/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was an awesome experience. Great atmosphere, great food, awesome drinks, and very expensive but worth the money.

Best Mexican Restaurant
We were very impressed with the setting, the food and the service. Only great things to say. Definitely check it out!
8/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Amazing selection of mescals and tequilas. Food was very decent, nothing was a total flop. One dish (the seared tuna) didn't have any pop to it, but was totally edible.
9/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was excellent and the service was top notch. Cannot wait to dine there again!
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
The service was excellent along with the food. The choice of guacamoles are amazing. We had the beef brisket enchiladas that were very good with a nice spicy kick. We would definetly recommend this restaurant. It is a little pricey so it might be a good place for a special occasion.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food, good location
Cool outdoor dining. Interesting Mexican innovations
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Casa Del Barco has recently added a terrific brunch menu. So on a beautiful, sunny and cool Sunday morning my wife and I sat outside on the Canal having an extremely enjoyable brunch. The Bloody Mary bar was fun and I was able to customize my own brunch cocktail. The coffee was excellent and served in a french press. The Mango Habenero guacamole was good as always. My wife loved the Huevos Taco Con Queso and I thoroughly enjoyed the Migas Tostado Con Salmon which was a really delicious take on a traditional eggs, lox, and onion breakfast. Food was as fresh as the menu and I totally recommend this brunch experience.
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful meal and attentive staff
My husband and I went to Casa del Barco before the symphony, and we had a great meal. Our first table was a bit breezy, doors were open, so waitress moved us to another table. We thought the food was outstanding and hope we can convince our friends to go with us on our next visit.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love the location!
If you need a nice little linner, Casa del Barco is a great place to go. Loved the menu, food was delish. Try to guacamole. It is really good!

Dinner after Folk Festival
Our group of four enjoyed the warmth and the comfortable booths after spending six hours enjoying the folk festival. Apps of Guacamole and cheese dip accompanied by Margaritas and beer were delightful. The two who had fish tacos enjoyed them. The pork tacos order said the meat was dry. My chicken enchiladas were outstanding. No room for dessert.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice Change of Pace
We tried some of the new brunch items on the menu and they were very good and different from the usual brunch fare. We also enjoyed the Bloody Mary bar and outdoor dining on the canal.
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was my second visit to Casa del Barco, and it did not disappoint. The staff was friendly and courteous. Great selection of interesting Margaritas at the bar and the food, well, you must try this place. It is not your run of the mill Mexican restaurant. They put an interesting twist on traditional favorites like enchiladas and tacos, but, you can mix and match items. Must try the guacamole to kick off the meal and finish with some warm churros with chocolate dipping sauce.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Can't wait to go back! Great food!
A little tricky to find so definitely print out the directions from the website or use a GPS.
