The friendly atmosphere, the
The friendly atmosphere, the energy, the service and good solid food give this authentic Italian 5 stars. Reasonable prices on decent portions of food. Bolognese sauce like mamma makes, beet salad and a meltingly tender short rib that had obviously cooked all day.

Excellent food and service
The food is great here. They care what you think and the service is wonderful. Wine list so so reasonable with quality choices. Pasta dishes cooked with love..salad options, really fresh and light.

They do chicken well
I don't usually order chicken in restaurants (a bit boring, no?) but my friend and I decided to share a chicken entree. It was delicious!! I would order it again! The appetizers were fantastic as usual.

Quite good and inexpensive
A small place on a lost block (pnly know because mext to Rafetto's).
Service was excellent and my whole branzini was excellent. No hard liquor.
A very enjoyable meal for two (two appetizers, one pasta and the fish plus one glass of wine) for $70.
Would have been happy even with a higher bill. Cannot think of a place in near the Village that offers a better conbination of food and value. Place is small so a bit loud even without music. Great for what it js.

Great prices for such a great
Great prices for such a great quality...like I was in Italy in some cosey, little restaurant where Italian mamma is cooking homemade dishes! LOVE IT!

At home (switzerlnad) we can get a lot of good italian food. The place here in NY is very authentic, food and wine just great. The restaurant was introduced to me by a colleague during my last visit in NY and only 2 weeks later i went again with a friend as I liked it so much the first time. We had pulpo, 2 different special pastas and a salmon as a main dish. Wne was the rose - which we know from italy - and it tasted like the one we know. Portions are good, price as well. Definetly worth to visit. i will come back and recommend it to my friend.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
The salmon tartare is a must; the pasta with crabmeat was also wonderful. All in all, a gem of a restaurant, serving unpretentiously excellent Italian food.

Great Food, Good Service
Small, noisy little place with great food, decent prices and good service. We definitely will go back to try other things on the menu. Our party of four had apps, salads, entrees and desserts. Everyone was pleased with their meals. The place is much smaller than I expected but we made a reservation and were seated as soon as we arrived.
I highly recommend and will be returning.

Don't miss Da Marcella!
Four of us dined here recently and had a wonderful time. The antipasto and bruchetta were flavorful and 2 orders is sufficient for 4 people. The entrees were fabulous - grilled chicken on roasted veggies was so tasty; the Bronzino was tender and herb chicken excellent. Wine prices are quite fair and entrees reasonable. Nice desserts as well! Service is attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend it!

Amazing octopus salad!
What a nice and friendly restaurant! They are beer and wine only so when we arrived early and wanted some alchohol they pointed us to a bar just down the street. When we asked the waitress for recommendations from the menu she didn't blink before telling s about her favorites. And we liked everything we tried-all 4 of us. The most memorable was the octopus salad. We would not hestitate to return if we needed a destination in this neighborhood again.

Fish was really good

Food and service were very
Food and service were very good. The only problem was that when we arrived we were seated at one of the several tables with stool-high chairs. We had some elderly people in our party who needed regular chair height and when we asked the maitre D he looked at us like we should have known. It never said anywhere on their website that half their tables were high. Luckily some very nice patrons were willing to move so we could be seated at a regular table. That was my only criticism.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
We accepted the offer to wait for a table in the cooler interior of the restaurant on this paricularly hot and humid NYC evening, and settled in at the bar and chilled down with some ice water and then a delightful Proseco. The Bolognese at De Marcello is to die for. My companion and I shared that pasta as a main and 4 appetizers so we had 5 small plates. The Octopus was fabulous, tender and flavorful. The frisee salad was delicious, the fennel adding an interesting counter to the creamy texture of the dressing, and the mussels were extraordinary. We wanted finish the broth with tablespoons but restrained ourselves and just had some additional bread delivered for dipping.
I will definitely be back. Da Marcello is on our favorites list.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was outstanding and you can't beat the prices!
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Remarkably dependable and delicious
We've gotten used to dining at Da Marcella almost weekly and have never been disappointed. This time the Cornish Hen was the wonderful surprise - one of the specials we had yet to try - and the bruschetta is a must - $6 for two heaping portions of the most amazing tomatoes on crostini. Another imperative! I almost hesitate to rave so intensely, because it is terrific that it remains a hidden gem without the long lines that nearby places have attracted. But, oh well.

Deceiving west village gem
We booked Da Marcella last minute for an early Sunday supper. From the outside this place doesn't look like much but what comes out of the kitchen is a different story. The fried zucchini flowers were outstanding, as was the burratta with prosciutto. The tagliatelle with duck ragu special was delicious. And the braised short rib with polenta was off the charts. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food.

Local spot that you would probably walk past but if you are lucky enough to stop in you will find great Italian food

9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've eaten at Marcella's many times, and the food is always fresh, flavorful, and very reasonably priced. They have a diverse menu that's not just your standard Italian fare, and doesn't stay static. It's an informal restaurant that clearly serves the neighborhood - from dignified seniors to professionals, and well-behaved kids Service is attentive without being hovering. I almost hate to get the word out lest it spoil it for the regulars, but nonetheless, I've recommended it often, and people always call back to say how much they enjoyed it too..
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Every once in awhile you come across a great restaurant that you can't wait to go back to. Well my 5th visit ther was just as good as the first one. I'm hungry just writing this. There pastas are cooked like you were in Florence, Italy, The staff is friendly and helpful.
9/14/2013 5:00:00 PM
After spending considerable
After spending considerable time in Italy, I can't tell you how refreshing it is to find a restaurant calling itself Italian that really serves Italian food—fresh, uncomplicated—as its done in Italy. Reasonable prices, realistic servings, truly homemade gnocchi, and a ricotta cheesecake from heaven.
9/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
This relaxed neighborhood Italian restaurant has such wonderful food - you will not believe it!! The prices are great also. What a "find"!!!! You will be very happy if you eat there! Pleasant service also. Had the special "Wild Boar Ragu" last eve. Out of this world delicious. Nice, inexpensive wines also.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always delicious and reliable
I generally have the salad with yellow and red beet carpaccio with feta and one of their $10 pasta dishes. I had the lasagna this last time. Along with a glass of nice red wine each, the two of us spent about $50 for a really lovely dinner out.
10/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
spectacular at the price
not a place for an enent dinner and one can eat better but only at twice the price.
10/3/2013 5:00:00 PM
Lovely friendly place
Consistently good and prices are very reasonable. The staff is very friendly and efficient.

Excellent small intimate West
Excellent small intimate West Village restaurant. Definitely worth a repeat visit!!
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Italian neighborhood gem
As rents continue to skyrocket in this area, small cozy and reasonably priced restaurants have no choice but to close down and are becoming a rarety. We live close to Marcella's and have become regular customers since they opened a year ago. We have never been disappointed with the food, the menu is varied, the service friendly. On weekends the noise level rises, but that's a problem in many restaurants, particularly when the space is small. The partners all have many years of experience working in various italian restaurants and know what they're doing. The crowd is older and not "trendy" which suits us fine.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food at incredible prices
The food at Da Marcella ALWAYS satisfies. The zucchini flowers are excellent, as are salads and all pastas. The prices are unbeatable for the quality of the food. I always return to this neighborhood gem!

A Hidden Gem
After stumbling onto this wonderful restaurant a couple of years ago, I have found myself returning many times with friends. The response is always the same. Great!

Clearly Very Popular!
This restaurant was so popular, we couldn't even book our preferred time of 8pm, so we booked 9pm.... We arrived at 9 but weren't seated before probably at least 9:20. But we could use the time outside (luckily the weather was good, there would have been no room for us to wait inside) to decide what we wanted, so we ordered right away. The for also took so time getting there, but it was worth the wait! The food was very good. And also reasonably priced. 5 people, for food and wine and two desserts, it was about $132. It is a small restaurant, with some tables higher than others, there were, I think two maybe three two-person-tables outside, and when you sat there your head was at about the level of the sidewalk. There was a nice atmosphere.

Open Table reviews were spot on
Picked Da Marcella the other night based on others' reviews and they were spot on. Great food at a very reasonable price. Staff were attentive and seemed enthusiastic and genuinely happy to be there. Ambiance was cozy. Noise level was quiet early on but built to a pretty high level once the place was full. Our table was right up against the bar so that definitely contributed to the noise experience we had. I can definitely see going back.

A Taste of Tuscany
Da Marcella is a very quaint restaurant. I felt like I was back in Italy. The service is excellent. The waitress explained the menu well and made delicious recommendations. We started out with a bottle of Brunello wine...excellent choice I must say! The grilled octopus was so tender that you could cut it with your fork. The beet salad with feta cheese was also delicious. The Bolognese was absolutely amazing! It was cooked for eight hours...I want the recipe. The grilled salmon was moist and flavorful. We ended our meal with the Tiramisu. A perfect ending to a perfect meal. What else can I say? You must try this treasure of a restaurant! Almost forgot ~ to make your evening even better their prices are very fair. I can't wait to go back!!

incrediblly delicious food
incrediblly delicious food and incredibly low prices.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went on a Sunday night, so it wasn't completely crazy, but that being said, it was noisy (low ceilings) and some of the tables, like ours, are those high ones. It was pretty noisy and a little too warm in the dining room (but maybe that was just me!). Other than that, the meal was awesome! I had the tagliatelle with pink sauce (pancetta) and it was fabulous - the pasta was really fresh - the salad that I had was a little boring, but the other appetizers were great - the octopus, the eggplant, the arugula salad - exceptional. The cheesecake is to die for. The meal was inexpensive, even with a bottle of wine - I live close by and will absolutely be coming here again, and ordering delivery very soon -
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Will try them again
I made a reservation, and then ran into crazy commuting troubles on the way from work. My friends showed up on time, but I was over an hour late. They were very understanding and gracious. They sat and served my friends even though I was not there, and then took my order from my friends when I was able to call them. My food arrived just after I did. The food was very good - although the portions were on the small side. I felt bad that I messed up the reservation, but they were extremely gracious and accommodating. I definitely want to go again when I'm not late and rushed, would love to experience it at the normal pace for a dinner!

Great food in a causal place
Food is amazing. I went with 3 friends and we had 3 appertizers and 4 pasta dishes - all delicious. I don't think there is a bad choice on the menu! The restaurant is small so we all pretty packed in and noise level is a bit on the louder side. Won't recommend going there for dates but if you just want great Italian food with a chill atmophere Da Marcella won't disappoint.

Best Italian food in neighborhood!
The service was the great, very attentive and cheerful. The food was delicious. We had a really lovely dinner. I highly recommend Da Marcella.

Eggplant rolls were to die for!
Starters were great, and only had a primo plate, but the pasta was wonderful. Wine list was fine. Was able to talk just fine as the noise level was not bad on a Thursday early evening. Glad I was not seated on the higher tables/chairs. Wonderful evening.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Even before you walk into the restaurant, you can see it's all lit up. It's attracting to the eye! It's a small restaurant, which is nice when you don't want to be around too many people during your meal. With my boyfriend, we had the bruschetta (scrumptious!), calamari (very fresh), hot sausage pasta (a little too creamy, in my opinion--> my boyfriend enjoyed it) and gnocchi with shrimp (yum!). For dessert, we had the creme caramel and sorbet. All in all, a great experience!
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food. Very reasonable prices. I had the sweet potato gnudi (like gnocchi, long pressed with ricotta). Awesome!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Wish we would of had more time to enjoy but had a event to be at. The food was so good. Service excellent. I will def go back. Thank you to open table its so easy to find a restaurant in the neighborhood you want to go it. Great find!

My landlord recommended this place when I moved to NY-- and it hasn't disappointed. Great food, reasonable prices, friendly staff... It's become our go-to-place.

Best -kept Italian Secret
This small neighborhood trattoria never fails to impress! The salads (try the multi-colored beet salad) and pastas are exceptionally delicious at amazing prices for Manhattan (try the tagliatelle bolognese special at only $10!). Nice wine list at very reasonable prices as well. Service is friendly and ideal level of attention (not over the top, but always there when needed). I've eaten here multiple times and each time the food is to perfection. The olive oil for bread dipping is a nice start, the flan is a great end. Take friends as a treat and you'll never break your wallet!
