We went to The Marrow with no particular expectations and had a wonderful meal. Went early (7 pm) so the room was somewhat empty (and quiet) and the sun was streaming through the picture windows which was really charming.
The Jagerwurst starter should not be missed, same for the Pea Shoot salad and the Fiddlehead Fern Gnudi.
Service was good and the wine list has some interesting German and Austrian choices.
Finished with the Stout Cake which was one of the best things I have eaten in a long time. Will be returning shortly to try other things on the menu. By the time we left, room was full and somewhat loud, so come early for the quiet and later for the scene.

Delightful restaurant in the
Delightful restaurant in the old Paris Commune space. Lovely setting, outstanding food, extraordinary service. I will certainly return.

Great ambiance, great food
Was not sure what to expect with the adventurous menu, but had a great experience. The sommelier was on point. Really enjoyed our appetizers, ranked in order: 1.) prosciutto-wrapped dates (great taste and size), 2.) tartar (nothing over the top, but very good), 3.) marrow. Tried a bit of everyone's main course. Hen of the Woods Mushroom was quite unique and tasted good, and I'm not a very big mushroom guy. The Schnitzel was great as everyone has mentioned. Not a huge fan of the short ribs...they were fine, but usually the combination of a great sauce and fall off the fork meet is what makes these dishes to-die-for in my mind, but this was relatively dry. And my order of chicken was great. Large portion and juicy, soft meat!

This restaurant is truly incredible. Crispy duck app is THE BEST. The steak was out of this world. The bone marrow - incredible.

Fun Casual Night Out
Went here on a rainy thursday evening with a group of 6 for a fun meal. Enjoyed great, well made interesting food.
Good solid cuisine. Nothing too over the top.
And drank some interesting German and Austrian wines.
Desserts were terrific. Everyone agreed. Great experience.

A Marrow Bone BIrthday Cake
This was a delicious birthday my husband will remember for a while.
The staff of The Marrow are fabulous - attentive but not hovering - our main server was lovely about various food questions and at the end of all of it celebrated with us by delivering their BEAUTIFUL and delectable marrow bone dish to him as his "cake" with a candle.
I highly recommend coming here and getting a multitude of small plates.
The entrees simply were not as strong. My husband had the steak and I had the fish special - they were good, but the small plates we ALL quite amazing - we had the lamb, stuffed dates, duck liverwurst and beef tartar.

I've never been to a New York brunch before, and apparently I'm the last person in Manhattan. Not particularly liking breakfast foods, and typically working weekend mornings, I found myself at the Marrow on my unexpected day off. Our waitress was fantastic (she had a Thoroughly Modern Millie bob. Look out for her!) and was not only knowledgable, but she was bubbly and fun to talk to to boot. Truly outstanding service. The portions were small, but in typical New York fashion, and every bite was mouthwatering. The menu is really thorough, and well made. Drinks were strong, and good for the prices. I would definitely come back, and request my waitress again!

Brunch is a must
Everything was impeccable! Service was beyond exceptional. Our waiter was professional, knowledgeable, and personable. The food was excellent. The pastry are excellent. The TM burger was all it is cracked up to be and more. The ricotta toast had the perfect combination of sweet and tart. It was well portioned and the flavors truly burst off the plate. I can't wait to join them for dinner.

would go back
Really enjoyed my experience. I had a later reservation (9:15 on a Tuesday) so the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded when I was seated and was empty when we left, but I never felt rushed. My food was excellent, would definitely recommend the wagyu. The Marrow cocktail was also delicious, and the red wine the waiter suggested for my steak was great. I thoroughly enjoyed my night out.
6/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
THis was my second time there. The first time I loved it and wanted to see if the experience was consistent. It was! Had the lamb ribs with yogurt sauce both times and it was outstanding. I'd go back again.

While they have only been open for 6 months, it is superb! Service, food and staff are some of the best in NYC! I highly recommend The Marrow.
6/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
I miss Paris Commune but the food at this replacement was spectacular. The kale salad was wow and the tartare was unique because of the pistachio brittle. Chicken and cod were outstanding. Welcome to the hood!
7/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
The drinks and appetizers
The drinks and appetizers were excellent and original, but unfortunately our main courses weren't equally as exceptional. Would definitely return but likely just order serveral apps and dessert.

Super marvelous dinner
Personal service. Wonderful fare. Sea urchin bone marrow a must!
Cute cute cute corner resto beautifully built out.

Quaint and Quite Yummy
We went for brunch and it was quite delicious. The portions were a little small for being Sunday brunch, but overall, was quite amazingly good.
7/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
The burger was exceptional, the drinks a bit hit-or-miss (interesting take on a Bloody Mary - had almost an anise flavor to it; terribly sweet coffee drink that is too be avoided), and everything else was very good. Recommended for a cholesterol-filled brunch.

Harold Dieterle 3 for 3
i loved my eating at both Perilla and Kin Shop. Went to The Marrow for the first time the other night and loved it as well. the menu has two sides, one side based on chef's Italian roots and other based on his Austrian/German roots. the wine list is heavy on choices from those countries. we split the bone marrow with uni appetizer and the squid ink pasta topped with ricotta cheese with pieces of baccala mixed in (omitted mussels usually in the dish) both were incredible. we were scraping the inside of the bone with the accompanying bread to not miss a drop. for main dishes we split the braised lamb neck and the pork rib. my only slightly negative comment is that a little too much garlic on pork. that aside both were simply great.

Lovely spot with good (albeit heavy) food. Only downside is the music--too heavy and too loud; a definite mismatch for this restaurant's overall aesthetic.

Great birthday celebration
Great service by a very knowledgable and professional staff. Food was excellent for all 3 courses. Wine list and specialty cocktails were excellent.
Reservation included a note that we were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant took care of it discreetly with a candle at dessert. We didn't need to remind them. Well done!
Hope to get back there again soon.

Good Experience at The Marrow
Great rib eye steak perfectly cooked. We asked to see the chef and was happily brought back to meet him. Nice guy- nice experience.
7/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food surprised us
We came for the bone marrow and the lamb neck which was written up about. They were both good but the lobster salad and hen of the wood mushroom dish blew us away. This experience reminded me to be so faithful to the popular and reviewed dishes.
Hated the wallpaper in the dining room and it did not match the dark coziness of the bar. Felt like I was dining in an PBTeen catalog. Paris Commune did it better.
8/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Been to the Marrow twice, everything was great. Like that the menu changed a bit.
Wine list is amazing, could try everything. Can't wait to go back again.
Super nice staff as well.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
food, service and everything else were just perfect.

Howard Dieterle has opened another great restaurant in Greenwich Village! We went on a nice quiet Saturday night in the Summer. Great service. Loved the lobster appetizer and duck schnitzel entree. Nice wine list but wish there were more domestic wines by the glass.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
great menu, well presented
Love this restaurant - not exciting decor but the food is enough excitement. Great menu options. Knowledgeable server; service started slow but then picked up.

Good food - great sommelier
Recommended by a local to the area. The service and food were very good. The sommelier (we didn't catch her name) was amazing. Completely knowledgeable and helpful. Only drawback was dessert - pear chocolate cake. I would definitely go again and just try another dessert.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
German and Italian together...yum
This was the first time I've ever had German and Italian fusion...oh my. The bread they served at the table had a German influence and it had a mustardy accompaniment. Totally set the bar high and we were not disappointed. Must go back!
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fantastic Dinner at The Marrow
You can definitely see and taste the German and Italian influences at work at this restaurant. Instead of bringing you bread, they bring you a fresh warm pretzel bun with olive oil and mustard, the pretzel roll is awesome itself but then you are start adding in the olive oil and mustard and it really takes it to another level. For appetizers we got the bone marrow, the pate, and the burrata. Everything was very good and the bone marrow with uni was exquisite. For entrees the Wagyu steak, black cod, and 2 of us ordered the lamb. All the entrees were well prepared and fantastic. For dessert we got the almond chcoclate pear tort. Do yourself a favor and head here for dinner.

Excellent Dinner at The Marrow
My boyfriend and I recently went to The Marrow for his birthday dinner. The service was excellent throughout, and the food was delicious. We shared the bone marrow (good, but probably the least memorable, seeing as it's the restaurant's namesake), the cavatelli with octopus (amazing, we could have eaten five bowls of it), the duck schnitzel, and the lamb loin. Both entrees were delicious, and sized fairly considering the prices. We really liked the hazelnut spaetzle that accompanied the duck, and the jus-soaked vegetables that came with the lamb. We were stuffed, but we finished the meal with the caramel custard and pumpkin waffle - the perfect blend of textures and flavors. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.

the best marrow in town!
and i mean the best! roasted to perfection with the richness of the sea urchin giving you a taste of heaven. the lemon aioli sauce takes you to the next level, balancing the richness of the dish with the slightly-tangy touch. even the micro greens delivered. i could not stop talking about it.
the white balsamic-glazed black cod was a revelation. most succumb to the safe bet of "miso" but this one gambled with white balsamic and eggplant-basil sauce. it was divine!
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not bad. Food was good. Nothing memorable. The Eye of the Tiger cocktail was amazing. Service was very good, too. Probably wouldn't run back.

Creative + Delicious
Sometimes when you say food is "interesting" you mean it's worth studying but not necessarily eating. That is decidedly NOT the case at the Marrow, where the kitchen comes up with imaginative and novel dishes that also taste really good. The warm lobster appetizer is fantastic, worth the visit in and of itself. Also try the ginger stout cake dessert, outstanding. Excellent and welcoming service. Nice wines. Just go.

Great Service & Food
Went for a date, everyone was incredibly gracious, ordered several specials, all were great. Good mix of upscale and neighborhood vibe. Wine list is fun if you are in to that.

I heart Harold
Love all of Harold's places. Perilla is still my fav but this is super solid. Pretzel bread delicious. I had tartare + duck schnitzel + ginger stout cake and it was all delicious especially the tartare. Wonderfully seasoned. My friend had the waygu beef and that was outstanding as well.
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Marrow has the perfect atmosphere for special celebrations or couple dinners. Is perfectly decorated and the large windows allow you to see the typical buidilings of New York neighborhood. It has an extensive wine and drinks menu, the menu is creative and out of the ordinary. The main course of lamb is delicious and the desserts too. The service excellent.
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and service
Good experience from start to finish. Small room but tables spaced well so you are not elbow to elbow with strangers. Friendly, helpful servers. Pork sauerbraten and wagyu culotte steak outstanding. Rock shrimp and rigatoni appetizers great. Charming sommelier who was eager to show off her interesting, reasonably priced wine list even though we were only drinking "by the glass."
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good brunch place. We only had savory items, but I imagine their sweet brunch dishes are also delicious. Noise level was a bit high, but other than that it was perfect for a nice Sunday brunch.

The food and service were both excellent. The only issue is that we waited 45 minutes to sit down although we had a reservation.

I had heard about this place for a while and new that it was great. I came in for Sunday Brunch and was very pleased with my Burger, the few bites of my boyfriend's rigatoni (which was perfectly al dente), and the very attentive service.
Fantastic spot, can't wait to come back for dinner!

No Bones About It
My second visit. At $120 (including tax and tip) for two mains, two beers, and a ginger stout cake for two people, it was an above-average experience but not outstanding. (I was trying to impress a friend from Paris). The $36 black cod was good but did not rival the only slightly smaller appetizer portions served at Sakagura and Inakaya. Also, the mushrooms and assorted vegetables accompanying the cod were tasty but underwhelming; the dish wasn't sharp enough. My friend's duck schnitzel was excellent with ample sides. For beer, try the Maryland Stillwater Cellar Door. It's a winner. The Ginger stout cake is amazing; it is almost everything you'd want in a dessert. Waitstaff was classy, friendly, and attentive.

Amazing Food, and Amazing Staff
Great food, and the people who work there are simply amazing! Great service at the bar, and later on at the table!

Marrow never fails to impress
Marrow never fails to impress with its out of this world desserts, innovative menu and attentive staff. Good to the bone.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
For starters, we shared the ricotta cavatelli and rock shrimp salad - both among the best appetizers we've ever eaten (the table next to us agreed), and the bone marrow. We weren't crazy about the marrow, (something they're known for ,obviously). This was purely a matter of preference - nothing was wrong with it at all. But at the very end of the meal, our server Karla noted that she had removed it from the bill, which was such a classy and unnecessary thing to do. For entrees, we had the salmon and the cod, both incredible, and the chef sent out a complimentary dish of roasted squash. It was one of the best dishes I ever had.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Another Harold Dieterle gem. Delicious flavors - the duck was simply scrumptious as was the marrow (if you like that sort of thing)! A lovely ambience as well, very warm, and inviting.

Marvelous Italian/German fusion
Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful, the menu imaginative, the food hearty, the service lovely. Ask for table away from frigid front door.

Pretty good food, awesome service, okay prices. I would do another Thanksgiving here.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great neighborhood gem!
This review pertains to the Thanksgiving Day dinner menu. My girlfriend and I shared Thanksgiving Day dinner here and were surprised by the romantic, jazz-age feel and ambiance of the interior. The Victorian (?) wallpaper and speakeasy-style music were nice touches to settle into after a brisk walk from the subway station. For starters we shared the Duck Pate and Bone Marrow - while the duck pate was indeed tasty it was the bone marrow that truly stole the show: it was magnificent. We also each had the Roasted Turkey with Pretzel Stuffing and Cranberry Sauce, which was excellent and not too dry. Finally, we also shared the Spiced Yam Puree and the Pumpkin and Chocolate & Pecan Pies - all of which were delightful sweets to share at the end.

Wonderful find in NYC
I am not from New York but my husband and I were vacationing and this place came highly recommended from a friend that is local to the area. We were committed when she told me that Harold from Season 1 of Top Chef was involved with this place.
She described it more as Italian, but I found it to be more German -- well... German meets Italian. You must have the Bone Marrow and The Marrow signature cocktail. I had the culotte steak and it was fabulous! We ended up going back 2 nights later for a marrow snack before dinner reservations at another spot.
