We went to Spill the Wine for the second time since they've moved from their original Downtown Washington Ave. location to their Uptown Bryant/Lake location for dinner on a Wednesday night. The restaurant is a welcomed addition to the Lynlake neighborhood. The interior and layout really works and is extremely attractive. Chef Craig Johnson is a great chef with experience and local roots. The truffle cheese curds were a nice starter. The pork belly burger was amazing and cooked perfectly with a nice bun to complement the salty and savory flavors. Really happy to have this restaurant on our regular rotation now!

We love the new location. The innovative menu offers something for everyone and is reasonably priced. Service is very attentive. A great addition to Lynn-Lake food scene.

We were very impressed with the fun location, the busy atmosphere and the great food selection. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and did a great job recommending things. The wine suggestions were spot on!
5/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food and wine were great. The seating needs a little attention though. The chairs are very small and uncomfortable. I am not a big person (6' and 170 lbs) and I barely fit on the chair.

Great place for foodies concentrating on the food and wine. Ambiance will not distract. Food combinations, seasonings and taste excellent.

New location very loud.
I base my * rateing on their former location. This week we made 7:00 PM Wednesday reservation for new location. We were really looking forward to our visit. Parking was difficult ( lot is still being paved) so I dropped off my wife and friend and looked for parking for about 10 minutes. When I entered resturant my wife and friend were waiting at the door. I thought perhaps there was a problem with our rez but that was not the case. The noise level was so extremely high they wanted to leave. I walked in to check it myself and was blasted by the high noise level. We can deal with noisey restaurants but this is the worst we have ever experienced. Told the hostess we were canceling and she was very apoligitic. Hope a solution is found to fix.

Great time at Spill the Wine
We had a gift certificate and they had moved but we found it. We parked on the street but I believe they have some parking. We got there early and there was a happy hour so the wine was very reasonably priced. The waitress was great- personality wise and service and recommendation wise. The menu is small and larger bites so you would want to order a side or two. We had the roast bets with feta and pecans .
We would go there again.

Brunch with the Bunch!
We had our Wino Club brunch (approx 12 people) at Spill the wine on Sunday morning at 10am. We sampled all of the small plates and a couple of the large plates. All were amazing and perfect to share amongst a large group. I really enjoyed the decor of the new location!

Girls night out!
When we have girls night out we love to sit and visit for hours and this was the perfect place to do it! We were there for 4 hours and we each took a turn ordering from the small plates and enjoyed the family style (or tapas) menu. The waiter gave a wonderful wine recommendation and food recommendations. The wait staff were nonintrusive but right at hand when we wanted to order another dish. The food was amazing and the desserts even more so. Can't wait to go back!

loved our very helpful young male waiter on Monday night, the 17th

Fun cool dishes. Love trying
Fun cool dishes. Love trying seething new. Like that plates come out as they are done in no certain order. Was a little spendy but worked out that we had a gift card.

Nice, but pay attention to price
Nice place. We sat outside. They've created a little patio off the alleyway that is good but doesn't get to great. Warning about small plates and wines not on menu, they can be pricey. We rdered several things to share, everything was really good, it added up quickly! We also did a wine flight which was delicious and asked if one of the wines (not listed on the menu) was available by the glass. She said yes and brought us each a glass, only to see on the bill it was $14 each! Surprising wines were $7-$8/glass. So our Tuesday-night-casual-get-together cost $125. A bit more than we bargained for. We did really enjoy our dinner and wine and will definately retun but with a bit more caution on pricing.

Expensive but fun
Dinner for two was very expensive but quite delicious. Our waiter was particularly friendly and the experience overall was very pleasant.

Cheese Curds & Scallops
The cheese curds were the best we have had at a restaurant and the the scallops were cooked perfectly. We highly recommend those choices.

The shared plate concept is wonderful and perfect for groups.

Great Date Night
Took my lady there for her birthday and we were not disappointed. The a la carte style is right up our alley, and the blue cheesed stuffed fried olives and apple cheddar bread got us off to a great start. The king crab gnocchi took the crown though, a must try. As with any a la carte style restaurant I'd recommend looking over the menu in advance so you know what you're getting into. Great food, cool ambience, good service and good wines.

My spouse, mother and son recently visited Spill the Wine at their new Uptown location. Our server recommended several excellent glasses of wine and other beverages for our family. We shared several small plates: octopus a la parilla, browned cauliflower, cracked olives, salsa verde, roasted beets, goat cheese, pecans, balsamic and gnocchi, king crab, brown butter, oregano, pecorino. While they may have been "small plates'" we left perfectly satisfied. It was a perfect meal and great way to celebrate my belated birthday with family!
We will be back again and thanks for the excellent evening!

Lots of great small-plate
Lots of great small-plate and wine choices make it a pleasant place to while away an evening. Beets and scallops were particularly good.

Great small plates!
Great small plates to share with your companions - we had gnocchi, beets, hoisin pork, polenta, scallops, and fried rice - and all were great! I only looked at white wines so I can't comment on the reds ...I thought the white wine list was pretty thin, actually.

I love the small plates. Enjoyed
I love the small plates. Enjoyed the meal, tried almost everything, all was good. Sorry that they doughnuts were not on the menu, they are excellent. Maybe next time.

I know it can be hard for us Minnesotans to share especially when it comes to food in restaurants. But, that is definitely the way to enjoy a meal at Spill the Wine. I highly encourage people to try different dishes and share with everyone at the table. Try the deep fried blue cheese stuffed olives and the polenta with lamb sausage (it is made in house). Try a flight of wine.
The service was great and attentive. The space has fun décor and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Wow! Came for a happy hour
Wow! Came for a happy hour meeting with a couple of folks and the service was exceptional-Katie, our server made sure we were well attended to and checked in regularly. The food was so good-have to try the fish and chips, so tasty! Loved the price too, our total bill was $15 for two glasses of wine and a nice happy hour portion of fish and chips. Thanks Spill the wine!

Fantastic place to wine and dine!
I've been here three times and every single time was for something different - the first was for happy hour with a friend where we shared a bottle of wine and a few small plates. The second - leaving a run on Lake Calhoun and enjoying the patio on an early Saturday afternoon. The third - a family dinner with my "meat and potatoes" family - and they loved it!
Food flavors are bold, with creative ingredients. There is something for everyone on this menu. If you don't know what something is - just ask.
This place has style, simplicity and a charming, knowledgable staff. It's good for date night, or for a "night on the town." I would highly recommend!

Great Happy Hour!
Our larger group (10) sat outside and enjoyed a great summer happy hour. The service and food was great too.
We'll definitely be back!

Fabulous birthday dinner!
We chose Spill the Wine because we had been there before and knew the food was good. Our food was great (we ordered a few things to share), and the wine selection was impressive. Our server was really friendly and helpful, and made our night even more fun. I had a tequila drink after dinner, with cinnamon and ghost pepper, which is my new favorite. Great atmosphere, vibe, and food.

Caught off guard by how good it was
I am not usually a small plate kind of guy. I had wanted to try the restaurant since they moved locations. We had 4-5 small plates and it was difficult to pick the best one. Great flavors, good local taps and the wife was happy with her wine flight. We would recommend this place to anybody/ everybody. The staff was very nice and timely. The sound was not bad, but it was only about 50% full.
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very enjoyable experience
Very enjoyable experience for my husband's birthday tonight! The scallops served over a well seasoned bed of greens were amazing and their fries that came with the pork belly burger were also a delicious surprise. Will definitely return with some friends/family!

Spill the Wine if Fabulous!
Had dinner this past Saturday night with my husband, my cousin and her boyfriend. We ordered the whites wine flight along with a variety of 8-9 small plates that we all shared. The wine was high quality and well selected. Their beer selection is also excellent, with great local choices such as Badger Hill. The small plates were so much fun! Very creative dishes and in just the right amount for our party to have a good taste of each dish we ordered. While in the restaurant we were chatting and reading through the brunch menu, looks delicious too! Can't wait to stop back in for brunch now.

I have never been disappointed by the food or service at Spill the Wine. The servers know their stuff, the food is outstanding, and the location, parking are free! Hard to decide which items on the menu are my favorites. Works for early dinner before the performance because close to downtown. Meet another couple there and have fun trying more small plates. I would make a reservation if you are going at prime dinner hours.
Love this place!

Wine Status: Spilled
The food was great. The wine list had plenty of options and the appetizers were very appetizing. There was a complimentary mushroom, olive oil and rosemary plate. We tried the toasted almonds with sea salt, the cheese curds with truffle salt, the scallops and the lamb sausage with cheddar polenta. Finished the night with the chocolate flourless cake. The food was terrific and the service accessible. I was there on a date and the server may have interrupted too much but her boss said she was just starting out there. The music was a bit loud but appropriate. The light levels were some of the best in recent memory. Overall, I would recommend this place as a date destination and would return.

New Fav spot in Uptown
My girlfriend and I just moved to the area from Kansas. Despite the connotations of corn-fields and tornados our old stomping grounds were filled with foodie spots and after 8-9 years of living there, we had our favorite places that are next to impossible to replace.
Spill the Wine was the first restaurant to put a twinkle in our eye since we've moved to the neighborhood. The ambiance is energetic but not overwhelming. The friendly employees were professional without a hint of pretentiousness. The wine flights are delicious and the food is super yummy. Scallops seared to perfection and a delicious cheese plate. I'm getting hungry.
Can't wait to go back!

Worth the trip
We we before a play at the jungle theater. Perfect location to walk to the show. The food was all delicious and wine flights are a great value. It was a bit loud in the restaurant. Large open space so somewhat hard to have an intimate conversation.

EVERYTHING was amazing!! The Polenta with lamb sausage, I'm still thinking about it. Scallops done to perfection! Brussel sprouts.... OMG! Fabulous night out~

Love to share
My boyfriend and I love to share our food and try lots of different things so Spill The Wine was perfect for us. To start, our server was very friendly and great at her job. The wine list is great and even has one of my favs... Michael David petite petite! My boyfriend likes wine too but was supper happy to see his favorite beer Chainbraker on their list. We tried 4 small plates: Brussels Sprouts: out of this world and a must have, roasted cauliflower: it was over salted and there were too many olives but I can see it being good if it was done right, Scallops: prepared perfectly and very different... You have to like pepper, and then there is the gnocchi: it was amazing!!! We pretty much scraped the gnocchi plate clean. We would dine again!

Terrific small plates
Small plates were very good to excellent. We ordered second portions of the gnocchi with chicken; the bruschettas were excellent. However, we ordered two portions of one of the one flights, and one serving of the three glasses had nearly twice the wine of the other serving. When it was pointed out to the server, she made no offer to equalize the servings. Very busy. Reservations recommended for weekend nights. Service very good and attentive, except for the size of serving issue.

Our first visit
Small plate dining at it's best. We enjoy sharing, so the small plates are great. We ordered four plates which was just right for us. They didn't all come at once, which was best. All four were different and special. We will be back soon!

Fun 'small plates' list is larger than big ayes menu... Check online first. Loved atmosphere . Only downfall: metal chairs- no padding.

Not the greatest acoustics but the service was wonderful.

Great place to catch up
I always come here with a few of my friends...its a great place to come have some wine and share a few small plates. The food is always wonderful, service is great, and the environment is perfect for catching up with friends.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was outstanding, the service was friendly, knowledgeable, fun and engaging. We had such a great time that I can hardly wait to return to this establishment. I highly recommend it! We ordered several small plates and we loved every single bite. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. The wine was so delicious too and I absolutely love the ambience. Dim lighting, good music, lots of windows...they did a great job with this place and I hope it continues to do well for many years to come.

Great food and wine, skip desserts
We enjoyed several of the small plates, scallops, bruschetta ,tortilla and sopes. All were very good, along with a couple of nice glasses of wine. Then came dessert which was very disappointing, we sent back the pumpkin custard which was more like clove favored paste. We then tried the chocolate cake which was dry and tasteless. Would go back for the small plates, but have dessert elsewhere.

Great food, the brussel sprout
Great food, the brussel sprout hash was fantastic! Love that they are open late at night and can still get dinner till mid-night.

Don't miss Spill the Wine!
I dined at Spill the Wine on Saturday, November 16th. We had to wait for a while, so grabbed a seat at the bar, where the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and great. I love the backdrop of the bar - the wood planks and candles - very cool. Once we were seated, the food was outstanding. There were so many different flavors incorporated into each dish and everything just worked. i had read that it might be loud inside and that the acoustics were less than ideal, but our experience was not that at all. Highly recommended!

Spill the Wine continues to
Spill the Wine continues to impress me. My husband and I have stopped by for drinks, brunch, lunch, and dinner and keep coming back. The menu is small, but the food preparation and ingredient combinations are fantastic.

Date night spot for foodies
My first experience at Spill the Wine was for a date night with my boyfriend. I liked the format of the menu- lots of small plates, allowing us to try a bunch of different things. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great for a romantic date night. Lots of wine to choose from as well. Will definitely be returning to try more of the menu.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a terrific meal. We ordered several small plates...actually our sever surprised us with each dish. He did an excellent job. The gnocchi was outstanding. I can't say enough good things about our experience. I will definitely be back.

Fresh new spot
Thank goodness I found this fresh, bright new spot to dine at on Lynn/lake. All if the food was a 10 and the ambiance is clean, open and giving a feel of relaxed comfort. Try the Brussels sprouts and the beets. Outstanding!
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
Inventive and tasty
We had a wonderful dinner here with friends. The food revolves around seasonal produce and
creative and delicious with attention to the details. The roasted squash with shallots and tahini sauce and brussel sprout hash were two of our favorites. The cheese curds with truffle oil are dismayingly fresh and not greasy at all. We had two order more Our server, Tom, took excellent care of us - he was amazing. And the wine list is great. We will be back!
