This is one of my top two favorite restaurants in Brooklyn--actually in all of new york city. The food is absolutely phenomenal. The ribollita is out of this world, as are the other soups, many appetizers and pastas. They have great wine, a terrific staff, and again, the best food ever. The location is not ideal, but completely worth traveling to. If It were closer to my apartment I would go multiple times a week.

Locanda is what you want in
Locanda is what you want in the neighborhood: terrific atmosphere, congenial owner/host and staff, consistently excellent, well prepared and fresh food, much of it made in the restaurant. The menu hasn't changed much in the last year or so, but what is on the menu has a lot of winners, and the specials are always great. The chicken liver and risotto appetizer is superb, beef cheeks or lamb shoulder magnificent, pastas always fresh and done perfectly. One challenge is that the restaurant has become so well known that it is difficult sometimes to come home tired, not wanting to cook or order, and be able to get a table. I guess that is the price of quality.

Authentic Italian Food
I went with my husband who is true-bred Italian, and he confirmed the authenticity of the food. We were both impressed. The wine we were offered as a pairing for our dinner was also quite spectacular. This restaurant is a bit pricey, but if you're looking for authentic Italian, and you have the money to spend, it's definitely worth a try.

Great, great food - room is quite noisy and not a great place to bring young kids. But such delicious food and very nice staff. Drinks are also wonderful and wine list is reasonable.

Great Brooklyn Restaurant
Found this restaurant in a google search of 10 best restaurants in Brooklyn. I'm happy to report that Locanda Vini belongs in that category. We had the suggested 3 courses and every dish was excellent.
5/2/2013 4:00:00 PM
They greet you warmly, seat you fast and make you feel at home. The service is one of the best around from knowledge of the menu and especially their wine list. The food, well the best compliment is that you'll have to try it for yourself ( you wont be disappointed). GO TO Locanda Vini e Olii, what are you waiting for.

Much more than a local gem
If you are four or more, by all means, take the tasting menu. It is very reasonable priced and you don't want to miss the variety. It is served family style so it's easy for everyone to try everything and there was nothing that was less than fabulous. Our favorites were the lamb ravioli, the chicken livers and the short ribs. The old pharmacy venue was not elegant, but uniquely charming. The younger wait staff members showed a little inexperience at times, but they were friendly and willing. Overall this restaurant is worth a special trip. This was the best restaurant experience I have had in many years.

Recommended by a friend. Saturday was our fist time and WOW! Food , service and Martini's were off the charts.
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Four of us went for dinner before a show at the Barclay Center. As advertized, it's in an old drugstore and even the sign on the
store front is unchanged. (We weren't sure we'd found the right place!) Extremely comfortable, the wait staff was mostly Italian. The food was excellent as was the service. I'd return to this place anytime!

Go To top spot in Clinton Hill
Never any less than a great night at Locando. Great food, great staff, Fine wine list and such a unique spot tucked away in Clinton Hill.

Good meal, but overpriced
The food in this place is very good, small portiions, expensive, but that's what good restaurants do.
6/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
food good but wow was it noisy
At times, the noise distracted from the food which is a shame. Very tasty, but portion size on the pasta dish was small, even by Italian "100 grams per person" standard. Service meant well but was overwhelmed by the crowd. Much better for a Sunday lunch or early Sunday evening meal when the noise level is down and the wait staff better able to handle the room.
6/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a group of 11 and the staff suggested the tasting menu. It was the way to go. Very affordable and made for an eating experience the Italian way.

Negroni and Cocktails
Negroni list was amazing and can't wait to come back and try other cocktails

A must find
I love this Place!! This is not your typical "red sauce" Italian restaurant.
Truly authentic regional Italian fare, from the octopus carpaccio to the homemade pasta and braised rabbit this place is the Real Deal!!!! No need to go to NYC

Best restaurant in nyc
Locanda vini e olli is the best. The food is delicious and the service is so personal and wonderful.

Locanda Vini e Olli
Were were a 2 top at 8:45 Saturday night in mid summer. We walked in and, even after admiring the tile floor, opted for an outdoor table. We each had chef's tasting menu, and it was absolutely delicious. We had Branzino roasted in parchment with braised fennel, washed down with an economical yet plenty dry prosecco ordered by the half liter. Chicken livers cooked to buttery perfection, eggplant infused flat pasta with cherry heirloom tomatoes, cracked pepper and olive oil, it was a fantastic meal. Service was attentive. Everybody kew what they, and everyone else was doing. It's a local, with plenty of savvy, and no need to show off. Highly recommend if you're ever in the Clinton Hill/Bed Stuy neighborhoods.

If only this was in Manhattan! Great food, terrific service, quasi reasonable prices. Living in Manhattan, it isn't easy to get to but it is certainly worth the trip. Can't wait to take people who have never been to this exceptional restaurant! Innovative food very well prepared!

Delicious Italian Food
The food was tremendous. My guests had the smashed sardines and pasta--they thought it was scrumptious. I had the seafood stew--it was generous and included a fish I did not know, but enjoyed. The starters were also wonderful, especially the sardines. The place is steeped in Clinton Hill ambience--you're transported to the previous century. Exposed brick walls, glass-faced cabinets from the place's previous history as a pharmacy. The help seemed like members of a really cool Italian family.
We loved it!
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good for a date
But make sure your date is adventurous because the menu has some very interesting but classic Italian choices. For a foodie, it's absolutely perfect. The wine list is very good too.

Love this place everything about it feels like italy, but the service was a bit chaotic and rushed. Everyone just needs to slow down and relax!

Love the food and the vibe at Locanda Vini e Olli - it stays the same but remains fresh and tasty. Always a lively interesting crowd!

9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Charming and delicious
This restaurant is one of the most charming I've found in Brooklyn - it's intimate and uses the old drugstore decor so well. The appetizers and first plates were tasty enough, but Locanda's real strength is the second plates/meats and the wine. Delicious - will definitely come back for special occasions!

This is Italy in Brooklyn
So refreshing to find excellent, authentic food, made with fine ingredients, and professional and friendly, helpful service that makes the entire experience one not to be missed. If you want to know what a great dining experience should be, with the attention but not the fuss, casual environment and a creative chef who pays attention to every detail, this is it. Everything from the house made herb infused alcohols for quality cocktails, to the marinated olives, hand made pastas......nothing is a miss. Fun, reasonable wine list with excellent choices. This is real Italian food, not the US version.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
it's a great place for dinner.
You should go check food here if you are in New York.

Overall good experience.
The space is reminiscent of a restaurant in Soho, but without the crowded streets. Food quality is also up there. Didn't have anything amazing, but everything was good. Pasta done right!Nice

Trick or Treat
We dined on Halloween and it was quite a treat. The homemade pasta was as good as I've ever had. We will return to work our way through these delectable combinations of pasta with mushrooms, shellfish, duck, and much more.

One of my favorites, outstanding quality throughout the years!

Top italian spot, great ambience
A real neighbourhood gem with amazing italian food and a great decor + ambience. Set on a very quiet residential street so will be necessary to have cars take you there and out if you are planning to go anywhere afterwards. Perfect for a quiet date night or energetic group dinner. Order the chef's menu, the selections made are fantastic and it allows everyone to taste a bit of everything, family-style.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
Excellent Italian fare with traditional dishes from many parts of Italy as well as imaginative variations. Tasting menu is great fun for a party of 4-6.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
Secret Local Gem
Hidden on a residential corner under an old pharmacy sign, Locanda always delivers.
The manager/owner recognizes us and orders up Old Fashions, our favorite cocktail here. Dinner options can accommodate all party and appetite sizes, whether for 2 or 6. We recommending sharing pasta and entree's with larger groups but pasta dishes are perfect for 2. We typically opt for a veggie pasta and the duck. Although the menu does rotate a bit seasonally so we change it up when appropriate.
Much of the decor was retained from the old pharmacy with Italian kitcsh thrown in for character. The tables are quaint but if you get there before 7, everything is relatively quiet. Summers are perfect for the outdoor tables and people watching.

The food is sublime. Like
The food is sublime. Like a good poem, there are no unnecessary ingredients or sauces. The ambiance is very lively and happy. The wine list is well-selected and reasonably priced.
A very happy, lively and deeply satisfying experience every time.

something off the beaten path
An unusual and delicious menu,a charming staff,a cleverly covered inferior that was once a drugstore, this restaurant is for the adventurous foodie that loves dishes like beef cheek, tripe, and the like, though they also have some standards that are also impeccable, like the Maltgliati w mushrooms. Also won my heart when they measured or wine consumption with a ruler to determine what to charge us.
5/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
Authentic and delicious
The place has tons of charm and the food is divine. The menu is very varied with great options in every course. We had fabulous zucchini crostini to start as well as lovely salads. Everyone's pasta was special and homemade. We finished with gelato from Vivoli, the famous gelateria in Florence which was really a fun surprise and it went well with their creme caramel.
The place is an old pharmacy and is very attractive.. The staff is friendly and efficient.
A great evening in a handsome corner of Brooklyn. Well worth the trip.

Located in an old. renovated
Located in an old. renovated drugstore on a quiet residential Brooklyn street, this restaurant is like being in Italy. They mean to please here with lusty, creative dishes from Liguria. The hand-crafted cocktails are a winner as well. Exceptionally good foof without "attitude."

I took my parents here when
I took my parents here when they visited from Germany. They can get a lot of great Italien food in Europe, but Locanda Vini et Olii really blew all of us away. The home made pasta is delicious and al dente, the frutti di mare appetizers were fresh and flavorful. I'd say the food is very similar to food from northern Italy (Piedmonte) with some wild boar and a bunch of wines from that region on the menu. In addition to the food we all loved the atmosphere in this remodeled vintage pharmacy. I will definitely be back

Timeless Tasty Treat
You are in for a full sensory experience when dining at this authentic, inviting, delicious eatery. The richness, texture, vibrancy, and simplicity of the historic apothecary setting translates seamlessly to the food and drink, and the manner in which they are served. When I'm in the mood to dazzle my taste buds and enliven my spirits, this place has the prescription!

Splendid food, friendly service
This place is a neighborhood joint for us, but it's well worth a visit from anywhere. Excellent Italian food, good wine list, and service that's the right level of friendly. One of the finest restaurants in Brooklyn.
Fine with kids on the early side - and fine for a date on the later side. Wonderful.

Top Notch Authentic Italian Cuisine
It looks and feels like a great neighborhood place, but the food and service are on a par with anything across the river and, in fact, across the ocean. Food was authentic and outstanding - don't miss the charcuterie with fried dough and the pastas. The wine list was fairly priced and had plenty to chose from, especially from the Piedmont - one of the few places in the City where you could order FranciaCorta.
