We found Bottarga South using Open Table. On a crowded Friday night we chose to sit at one of the cool high top tables in the front window. Ordered the truffle pizza, which, while a tad undercooked, was great after it came back crispy like we like it. A pasta carbonara was near perfect! Made perfectly al dente, this was a great version of this classic dish. We finished with a really good rib eye steak, which the chef topped with truffle oil- which we love.
Another thing, our server, though a bit inexperienced was incredibly enthusiastic and delivered the many (incredible sounding) specials with zest and sincerity!! We liked this place a lot and intend to return to try a lot more of this great menu

Our first time at the new
Our first time at the new incarnation of Cafe Arugula. Not many changes in decor. People were friendly. We were seated in the upstairs section which was very dark at first and difficult for my companion to see with her low vision problem. When asked the staff immediately raised the lighting. The stuffed pork loin was incredible as were the brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes accompanying it. The salad was also awesome. All in all, a great wheel.

Great restaurant that used
Great restaurant that used to be Cafe Arugula. Had a wonderful Easter dinner with the family and ordered hot appetizers to salads and 4 dinners and 2 desserts and all were delicious. I can't wait to go back. The veal dishes melted in your mouth. Server was very attentive without making you feel rushed.

West Orange is lucky.
Driving from New England to DC and found Bottagra on Open Table, not far off the Garden State Parkway. Excellent food, thoughtfully and authentically prepared (e.g. no cream in the carbonara), and a friendly neighborhood feel that one rarely enjoys alongside cooking of this quality. South Orange is very lucky to have Bottagra, and we will stop there as often as we can.

Incredible food.. fantastic service
I've eaten at the Hawthorne location several times and the food here is just as good. Great service with a smile, very attentive servers and bussing. Can't wait to get back!

Father's Day Fun
Tried it for Father's Day dinner and we will be back for more. Appetizers were beautifully presented and delicious. The specials were lovely. We had the grilled peach salad and a chicken rollatini special and a veal special. Others in out group tried other items and not a dud in the bunch. We really wanted to sample desserts, but were too full. There's always next time. Nice that we could bring our own wine!

large menu - very diverse --everything delicious and many unusual dishes. Very large portions, especially the pastas - sharing not frowned upon.

Its hard to beat a solid byo with excellent cuisine and nice service for feeling like you got your money's worth, and this place always makes me feel that way. The quality is high, and the value quotient also very high here, as prices are decent. We had stuffed zucchini flowers, veal saltimbocca, and a halibut special, and all were nicely done. they recommended going to a liquor store nearby, but it was sunday night after 7pm, and the liquor store closes at 7 on sunday

Entres were great -- Hanger steak special & Chicken Francaise. Appetizers were very good - eggplant rollatini & crab cakes. Dessert was lacking. Service was timely but not over bearing.

Good neighborhood gem
Party of 8- the food, ambience and service were good. The table shared the artichoke, broccoli rabe and mussels appetizers-very tasty. Entrees sampled included some traditional dishes such as chicken francaise and chicken parm. Personal pizza was reported to be delicious. The Sea Bass was tastefully prepared. Dessert-since it was a special occasion-the party shared two orders of desserts. The chocolate mousse cake was outstanding-however, the cheesecake was a bit on the dry side. Both were attractively accompanied by icecream and whipped cream. The waitress was excellent-very accomodating and humorous.
Two cons: A bit expensive for a local byob/neighborhood eatery and a bit noisy for a week night.

Nice discovery, all-around success
Visiting from a neighboring area, found this gem through open table. Service was extremely professional but not snooty. All dishes were outstanding, especially figs filled with gorgonzola, wrapped in prosciutto. Even with large party tables, sound level still allowed conversation.

Another enjoyable dinner
We have visited 3 times in the last 6 months and are never disappointed. There are always interesting and delicious specials making it difficult to chose. It was again another wonderful dinner and we will be back. We are surprised more people haven't rediscovered this local gem.

First in on Sunday with friends and the restaurant was empty..not a good sign we thought but it soon filled. The waiter was very attentive and the food and choices amazing...we could not fault a single thing except we wish it had of been licensed but is BYOB ..there is a liquor store very near though.
We mainly had fish dishes which were superb and we would thoroughly recommend this authentic Italian... Great specials list too ...we will be going back very soon. So glad we found this gem in South Orange.

Boccone South has a new owner.
Boccone South has a new owner. He is very personable and aims to please. Our waiter Ruben was very attentive. Everything was served in a timely manner. The calamari appetizer was very good. We also had a small pizza for the table to share and delicious rice balls. The stuffed pork chop was excellent and the fish special with mahi mahi and shell fish was very good over pasta. For dessert they have gelato in a good choice of flavors and mini canoli. We ended our meal with espresso and cappuccino. Will definitely go back. We all really enjoyed our meal and the friendly service.
