A relaxing Victorian splurge
Florals, overstuffed pillows, comfy couches... Like a parlor in a favorite, eccentric English auntie's house. Fabulous scones and well paced for when you want to splurge and sit and chat while being served tea.

Consistently a favorite tea spot
Best tea service in Manhattan that is not part of a ritzy hotel. Generous portions and the mille feuille crepe cake is always the perfect ending to an afternoon tea.

Lady Mendl's is one of my
Lady Mendl's is one of my favorite places on the planet! I don't live in New York anymore but whenever I am visiting, I always make time for at least one trip for tea with my friends. The staff is wonderful, the tea is fabulous, and the ambiance is just perfect.

A lovely spot for intimate
A lovely spot for intimate occasions or just a simple afternoon with friends. I want to live in that townhouse!

Best Afternoon Tea
Careful attention to all the details make Lady Mendl's afternoon tea a memorable occasion. The Victorian home setting, the vase of fresh flowers, the homey English teapots, the professional service, but most of all the attractive and delicious array of dainty sandwiches and tasty sweets made it a perfect setting to get together for a leisurely afternoon with friends.

My daughter and I had have this "tea" thing where we try teahouses. Among the five we've tried in New York, this is our favorite. I was a little concerned, having read some of the reviews but we had a great experience and will definitely come back.

A new favorite.
My daughter and I have this "thing" and it is to visit teahouses. Having read some of the reviews, I was a little concerned about the experience. Lady Mendls ended up being our favorite teahouse in NYC so far. We love the place, the food was good - the tea could be hotter -- but the place even smells good. It was a very good experience.

Booked a 17.00 seating with my sister and my mom, and it ended up being one of the best things we did on our NYC trip. Absolutely stunning interiors (they've kept the old-world elegance of the building and its interior). The high-tea was served in 5 delicious courses (don't come hungry because most of the courses are rather sweet, but don't eat too much before because you get a lot of food). The loose tea selection was great (I had the darjeeling tea), and you can order mimosas/sparkling wine/champagne etc if you want. We ordered the mimosas which were very good... overall the experience was perfect and I'll be booking again when I return to NYC.

A lovely setting but the food
A lovely setting but the food is disappointing. The first course , a small tart, and the scones were quite nice; but the sandwiches were tasteless and skimpy. I would have preferred more savories and fewer sweets. The pastry in the cream cake had a very unpleasant consistency. I would have liked to have been offered more tea when my pot was empty. Though the service was pleasant it was rather impersonal.

Great high tea!
The Victorian house, now hotel, in which this place I et is like stepping back in time. It is simply beautiful. Te service was excellent. Choice of tea and the assistance the staff give makes the experience so enjoyable whether it is your first tea or y are a high tea veteran. Will definitely go there again for pre theater tea.

My girlfriends and I had an amazing time! We loved how we were able to relax and truly enjoy ourselves without feeling pressured to eat and get out. As far as finding a place for high tea, we loved how we were able to make a lunch out of it instead of wait until 3pm. It wasn't overpriced and there were no tourists. It was truly lovely. The selection of tea was delicious. The entire afternoon was a highlight for me and my sorority sisters.

Time for tea
I recommend for a romantic afternoon, a girls day, or a nice place to chisel and chit chat. The atmosphere was beautiful and the service was great. Not a lot of food for afternoon tea but it was enough. Food was good

Lovely Spot for Tea
Lady Mendl's was a wonderful find. This was my third time there for tea and it's just lovely. The food is excellent, the atmosphere charming and the service excellent. It's like taking a trip back to another time. It's a great place to spend an afternoon with friends. I am looking forward to returning soon.

Best Afternoon Tea in NYC!
Five courses, unlimited tea and you even get seconds with the tea sanwiches! Palm Court & The Russian Tea Room don't live up to their hype. This restaurant only does tea and they do it right in an elegant townhouse in Gramercy!

it's nice to be able to do something different every now and again and this was different for us. We took my sister for her 50th birthday and it was just the nicest experience ever. now i'm excited to go to the tea room in London, at least now i'll know what to expect. i've already recommended this to several other ladies and have booked a tea time for some friends from out of town. I'm certain they'll love it just as much as we did. It was ALL just PERFECT

Food, service, & atmosphere
Food, service, & atmosphere great. And they did a wonderful job accommodating my friend with special dietary needs.

Exactly what you picture when you think of a tea salon. Great for lunch with a girlfriend or group of girls.

Amazing tea time in NYC
Lady Mendl's is an amazing place, is cute and cozy and very quiet. It's a little Oasis just steps away from the buzz of Union Square. You are sure to unwind and relax at this spot. The tea is simply amazing and the food as well. Service is great! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great chic cozy place with tons of warmth and character. Price is also decent.

"Marvelous" is the word
I had their 5-course tea. My favorite item was their signature 20-layer crepe cake. The layers were so soft. They melted in your mouth. The amount of cream was just right, without spilling out of the layers. Scones were neither too dry or too buttery. They would taste even better if they were warmed. The finger sandwiches tasted a bit refrigerated. Tea temperature was not hot enough. Table service was fine. I recommend going to this place at least once for an unique experience. It is a getaway in New York City to enjoy tea in a Victorian room housed in a brownstone inn.

A lovely day for tea
This is the second time I have dined at Lady Mendl and it did not disappoint. I took my three nieces there and we all had a wonderful time due to the lovely atmosphere and great food. There is a nice selection of tea and you can not go wrong with any choice. The food is quite tasty and if you think that you will not be full afterwards, you are mistaken. The portions may seem small but they are filling. We went earlier in the day so we were sat in a smaller room with two other tables and the mood was really serene yet friendly. Our server and staff were pleasant and made us feel welcome upon our arrival. I love the decor and overall feel of the salon. I have recommended this place to others and will continue to do so.

Terrific for tea
What a lovely place for tea. Lady Mendls is everything I imagined a tea room should be and more. We can't wait to come back.

Lady Mendls is always a treat!
Lady Mendl's tea salon is a real treat! The tea is absolutely exquisite and the savories are delicious. The atmosphere is romantic and uniquely quaint. Every trip to NYC includes a trip to the Lady Mendl's tea salon.

High Tea Henry James Style
This is a favorite of mine. I always feel like I've stepped into another world when I attend high tea at Lady Mendls. It's quite the treat. There are numerous courses, all festive and yummy and all in the tradition of a classic English tea. The ambiance is very special and tea is served in style.
8/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
They have done it again!
Once again, I had a lovely experience at Lady Mendl's Tea Salon. The tea, service, and the multi-layer crepe cake are simply exquisite. As always, I will be continuing my tradition of making a trip to Lady Mendl's part of every visit to the City.
8/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
A great birthday surprise for my little sister who turned 24 over high tea. The ambiance was amazing, the 5 course could have added a little more bites during our tea. So the food choices were slightly disappointng for the price I paid. Regardless I would come back for tea or rent out the space for my engagement party or bridal shower in the future. Great service....and a much needed break from the hustle & bustle of NYC.

Always A Pleasure To Have Tea at!
You definitely get your moneys worth with a second helping of tea sandwiches I always leave feeling full. I love the homey 1800's salon feel to the place and adore the crepe cake!

The waiter‛s behavior was
The waiter‛s behavior was sometimes careless. For example, they handled dishes slovenly,so the pastry deviated to the edge was served. And While we were still eating, they started to put the tables away beside us.I like the atmosphere but it wasn't worth 30%-tip. I hope these aren't always.I totally recognize as nice place, anyway.

Accommodating and Delightful
Our trip to Lady Mendl's for tea was wonderful from start to finish. We had informed our hosts ahead of time that no fish could be served to us due to food allergies. They knew when we came in, in fact each group was seated in a parlor until seating in the dining room, and we felt like guests in a home. We were treated like it was the 19th century and we were out to tea. It was a massive amount of food, well paced, and delicious and gracious.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Refined and Delightful
This is a lovely place to come and have a civilized break from the city. They are gracious and accommodating . The only real criticism was that the egg salad was applied a bit thin...hardly a big issue! I am not a fan of the cookies, but the chocolate covered strawberries, the scones, the cake, and the sandwiches make up for them!

Pricey but lovely afternoon tea
I took my mom and husband. We all really enjoyed the selection of teas, sandwiches, scones, and cake. The service was also quite attentive and we had a pretty little table by the window. We were worried that we'd come away hungry, but the 2nd round of tea sandwiches was actually very filling. They start the tea service promptly at the scheduled time, so if you come late your 90-minutes get cut short. Luckily we arrived a few minutes early. I also noticed that they increased the mandatory tip to 20% from the 18% I had read about on Yelp, which I would have resented except for the fact that the servers were very nice. The only thing I had to ask for was fresh hot water since my tea was cold near the end.

I wanted to take my mother for tea while she was visiting, with so many choices she decided she wanted to try Lady Mendls. To be honest, from the photo's on the website I thought that it was going to be old, dingy and odd. I was completely wrong. The ambiance was really great. We felt like we were back in the 1920's. The whole experience was quaint and the service was excellent. The selection of tea was great. The food was very good. The sandwiches were quite ordinary, (cucumber, egg salad, turkey salad, salmon/cream cheese.) I would have preferred a little more pizazz in the sandwich department, but overall it was just fine.

A Delightful Nugget of Splendour!
Lay Mendl's never fails to deliver an experience which utterly transports you to a place of serenity, charm and subtle glamour.
The delicacy of the service fused with the sheer elegance of the graceful interior design have an addictive quality, which cannot be resisted.
You leave the place with a warm floaty feeling which lingers on for days.
Hurray for Lady Mendl's once again!

I went with my partner for their afternoon tea service and had a great time! The afternoon tea courses were scrumptious and the tea was delicious! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this tea to my friends!

Afternoon Tea at Lady Mendl's is always lovely. Very appreciate that they've recently provided gluten-free tea service for those who need it.

THE BEST TEA ROOM IN NYC!!!
We have tried several "Afternoon Teas" in NYC, and by far, Lady Mendl's is the best.........the one we return to every time we are in NYC! We've even gone there twice in one week.......it's that good!!! They offer a 5PM seating, and we prefer to go then, so it is our "dinner" for the night.
They offer wonderful ambience, delicious food, lovely china, a large variety of teas, and excellent service. I can say nothing bad about this place. It is romantic, and it is also a place all the ladies like to go.........very popular for showers & women's events.
If you want to treat yourself, make this your destination! They are in a brownstone in the Union Square area that is easily accessible via the subway. You will have a pleasant experience :)
10/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
It's fancy, the kind of fancy where they serve bite size meals. But because there were five courses of exquisite bready foods, I walked away quite full. My girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed herself as well.

A Birthday Treat!
Per usual, Lady Mendl's was fabulous for us ladies to get together and celebrate my birthday. I enjoyed my absolutely delicious Gramercy Pearl tea, which warms and satisfies me every time. The delightful scent of Trapp's Bob Flower Shop permeated the room creating an intense aromatherapy fit for a birthday princess like myself. The staff were pleasant and accommodating as they surprised me with candles in my chocolate covered strawberries and a glass of complimentary Prosecco.
Bravo Lady Mendl's!!!!

I love tea
This is a great place for afternoon tea. The crepe cake was delicious, it was light and the right amount of sweetness! The only recommendation is for the plates, tea pot, utensils should match.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
It was just charming. Low key with delicious goodies. Highly recommended.

One of a kind
I took my mother here for an early birthday dinner, and she absolutely loved it. She kept bragging to her friends about it in the weeks following. I think it really did make her day!
Overall, this place is wonderful. Once you enter the salon, it's like you've been transported to the past. Everyone is extremely courteous, and other patrons are very mindful of keeping the volume down. The food is nice, but I think the real highlight is the environment they create for you. It makes you feel like a real gentlewoman sitting down to tea in the early 1800's! This was really a very special experience, both for my mother and for me.

Coziest and best place to
Coziest and best place to have English tea.Only reason i gave a lower score for service is that the I was accompanied by a lady much older than me and the waiter kept serving her in second...hope the next time he gets some proper etiquette guidelines...otw the place is esquisite as usual.

Such a treat!
Once again, my trip to the city included a delightful visit to Lady Mendl's tea salon. Per usual my Gramercy Pearl tea was absolutely lovely and the sweets and savories were delicious. As expected, Lady Mendl's always makes me feel like a lady!

Lady Mendl's was the perfect experience for my gal pals' holiday outing in NYC. They provided a classic high tea with great food and excellent service, held in a Victorian Brownstone. It was beautifully decorated, quiet, and warmed by the fireplace. We all loved it!

Every year I celebrate my sister's birthday here and she is a tea lover.
She loves this place and looks forward to our visit all the time. The food,
and service is great. The place gets very crowded easily.
