We had been wanting to try
We had been wanting to try Providence for awhile, and the perfect occasion arose they along with many other restaurants participated in the JJs fundraiser. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, portions were a little small but about on par for this type of restaurant, and our cocktails were both extremely tasty.I also loved that there was a vegetarian dinner option on the menu! The best thing, however, was that the general manager introduced himself and invited us back as we were walking out the door. That kind of service goes a long way in our book, and we will definitely be back for our next nice dinner out!

Nice room. Just really quiet and subdued the night I was there. Food was fine.

Providence equals Bristol downtown
I think Providence could give Bristol some tasty competition. It was a business dinner. Went back to see if they could duplicate my first dinner experience there after a great review in the Star, and the scallops proved that they could. Have also been to the bar for Happy Hour, which was very tasty. So we're 3-3 there. The valet parking was complimentary so, even during the Big 12 tournament, it was easy to get in and out.

Fantastic meal. She had lamb
Fantastic meal. She had lamb chops with pancetta and white beans. I had the KC strip. The appetizers were stellar — solid service, friendly, child friendly.

Enjoyed the restaurant very much. Our group had the Applewood Smoked Meatloaf, the Braised Pork, and the Scallops. We all declared our meals delicious!

The staff at the restaurant
The staff at the restaurant was very accommodating to our schedule. The play we were attending ran an hour late and they were very willing to extend our reservation. We had a wonderful experience and will return.

American Cuisine at its Finest
The newly reopened Providence restaurant (in the Hotel President) has a history to uphold. The menu is American with a twist. The Boulevard battered shrimp dish was delicious, as well as the scallops and the meatloaf that my dining companions enjoyed. First time have a coffee ale produced by Boulevard, and it was delicious. Pricing was moderate range. A very enjoyable meal for anyone going to an event at the Sprint arena.

The food was good, but it is what you expect for the price. The cocktails were creative and tasty. They were out of quite a few menu items which seemed strange but it was a Sunday night. Loved the decor/ambience, lighting was perfect and the jazz music they played was nice.

In a classic KC hotel
More people should give this restaurant a try. It is in the historic President Hotel right next to the Drum Room lounge. Kind of pricey but attractive space and interesting menu items. Some good cocktail choices, as well.

Outstanding food and service
Our recent meal at Providence was excellent in every respect!
We started with craft cocktails in the attached bar, then shared the tuna tacos appetizer. My wife had a salad and the braised short ribs; I had a cup of soup and the meatloaf. Everything was delicious. In particular, the meatloaf defied description. It was unlike any I have tried before. If you are hesitant to try something like meatloaf in a fine restaurant (as I was), do yourself a favor and make an exception here. I know we will return soon, and it will difficult for me to order anything else.
Service was also great, from the funny bartender to the friendly hostess to our knowledgeable waiter, who explained the menu and made terrific recommendations. Two thumbs up!

Glad we gave it a try!
We dined here last weekend while in Kansas City. I looked on Open Table for restaurants near our hotel and was surprised to find one at our hotel...glad we tried it! It was medium priced...they offered a good selection of appetizers and entrees...we had Glazed Pork Belly (sorry I can't remember the correct name for it!) and shared...it was great, but there's only 4 small bites (we were 4, so we each had 1), so if you're hungry, you'll need to order other dishes, also. One had a New York Strip Steak, which was big and tasted great, two had the fish special...a Monk Fish served with a sweet potato cake..they said it was good, but small. I had meatloaf w/mashed potatoes and green beans. Great! Slow service, though. We all had dessert.

We loved it!
What a great place! We had several appetizers: carpaccio, pork belly, meat and cheese plate and they were fabulous. Our lunch entress were excellent also - beer battered shrimp, burger, soup and sandwich. Don't miss Providence!

Great, attentive staff! Great food
We were there for lunch and also a private party on Saturday (7/27/13). What can I say about the new menu and restaurant: except what a huge improvement from the last iteration. Even better than the menu was the very customer-service-oriented staff. Kevin our waiter was impeccable. He was very knowledgeable and more than accommodating. Brock the bartender is top notch. Ask fro a blueberry-thyme mojito next time you're in there! Rick the manager was gracious and accommodating as well. Overall, we always enjoy the Hilton President, but the restaurant and staff made our stay even better.

Great Food - slow service
Providence has a fun menu, the food is excellent and the value for the price is great - so we have gone back several times. However, every time we have gone the service is painfully slow. The wait staff are good, when you get them to your table, which unfortunately isn't very often.

I love the relaxed feel of this place - like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The pork belly appetizer was amazing and the Kobe burger I choose was superb. Service was attentive and friendly, our server even provided us with wine choices that would match our dinner and his choices were affordable.

A most pleasant dining experience..
Came here after a college graduation - small party (7 of us)...had requested a somewhat private dining area and our request was fulfilled - a lovely small dining room for us...cozy, hardwoods, very lovely. The service was outstanding and the menu was different yet pleasing for our party. No noise to worry about and our experience was fabulous. We were very pleased. My husband, though, was disappointed that the rhubarb cobbler was not on the menu,,,

My husband and I picked this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. The food was excellent. we both had the filet which besides being wonderful was a great price. 27.00 seemed very reasonable for what we got. From reading other reviews we had a coupon for a free appetizer so we tried the bbq pork and it was very good but glad we didn't have to pay the 9.00 for it. I would of felt that I didn't get my moneys worth since it was only 4 very small pieces. The sides that came with the steak were also very good. I loved the potato casserole dish. The green beans were ok. The service was good although our waitress wasn't overly friendly but did seem efficient. I also really liked the new décor since the remodel.

Why I don't remember to come more often is mysterious. The food is always interesting and perfectly prepared and presented. The service is attentive and friendly but not overbearing. AND you can valet park for free with Wallace's "I don't need no stinking ticket to remember your car" talent! My only reservation is sound, my constant plea for ambience reform in most all great restaurants. I simply can't hear my dinner companions easily. Available booths help, and I try to go off peak time. (Don't miss the housemade donuts. Wow.)

Dinner was very good and the service was outstanding! Our server knew everything we asked about menu items and gave very good recommendations for drinks as well. What a lovely experience!

You walk into the exquisite lobby, stepping into the 1940s, to a quaint restaurant. Quiet, relaxed, romantic- it fits the bill. Ah, the food, perfect portions- not too much, not too little. The chef knows how to pair fresh and different. Wine pairing was suggested, it was a nice touch. Not rushed but just right. Take your time here, it's worth it.

I loved this restaurant! The service was impeccable, the drinks were great, and the appetizers were delicious. The BBQ Maple Pork Belly on pickled watermelon was perfect. I did not care for the peach cobbler; I will try the doughnut dessert next time. There will definitely be a next time!

great downtown KC spot
This is a great low key restaurant in an historic downtown KC hotel. The ambience is rustic with low lighting, wood paneling and flagstone. The adjoining bar is The Drum Room. The blueberry salad was delicious with large, fresh blueberries. Bluecheese burger was absolutely tremendous. The trout was fresh and not overly seasoned. The service was great from start to finish. Attentive, but not overly so. We'll be back on our next trip.

A Great Find
My husband and I made reservations for dinner here prior to attending the play Wicked. The restaurant's menu had a great variety of options. I had the chicken and ravioli, it was very good. The ravioli was light and the ricotta inside was very creamy. There was a light broth with mushrooms and kale, it was yummy. My husband had the braised ribs which he said was like pot roast, however he wasn't as happy as I was. It was tender, but he was expecting more flavor.
We each had dessert, I had the donuts, was not as happy with them as my husband was with his carrot cake. All in all we would recommend this restaurant to friends.

A Hidden Gem
The Providence is a delightful experience, food, decor, service et al. I sincerely hope good words spread about the exceptional menu and comfortable venue. Ceviche tuna tacos are just the right size tiny bite to prepare your palate for the upcoming feast. The smoked tomato bisque is delightfully complex and a most comfortable choice for a cool autumn evening. Vegetable tamales proved to have the lightest cornmeal cocoon around the perfectly seasoned veggie filling. A tiny sliver of carrot cake with outstanding marscapone icing was even more perfect with a glass of 30 year old port. Totally, a yum adventure!

The variety of food on the menu satisfies many palettes. We enjoyed the trout and Nebraska bison after starters of cured salmon and Providence salad. We also enjoyed the handcrafted cocktails.

A great remake
We visited the Providence restaurant before going to the theater. The service was especially helpful, timing our courses so that we could eat comfortably and still get out the door in time. The Providence is a remake of the Drum Room in the President Hotel. The bar retains the Drum Room name, and the Providence is the lower level restaurant. The menus is full with starters, salads, entres and desserts. The wine list is good and the staff helpful on selecting the right bottle. My wife had the scallops and I had trout in bacon broth. Both were excellent. The atmosphere has improved markedly with the remake of the dining room. It is great to see this venerable Kansas City hotel return to this level of excellence.
