They've only been open a few
They've only been open a few weeks, the menu currently offers 50% of what it will and there are definite growing pains but overall it was a very nice experience and we'll definitely be back. They have a great concept of stopping in their wine store and picking out a bottle, then having that sent to your table. The only problem with that is we had no idea what the menu was so we were guessing at the most appropriate wine. Once the restaurant is established and a menu is on-line, that will help. I would also suggest that a menu be available in the wine shop so diners can better choose their dinner wine.

This new establishment reminds
This new establishment reminds me a lot of an 80s Vegas hotel dining room. Lavish appointments, supervisory personnel everywhere, and rather phony "touches" like the large glass wine decanter all made the esperience a bit out of kilter. The waiter was excellent, properly attentive, but not intrusive. The food was well prepared, obviously fresh and sauced well. The prices are simply astronmical, and the wine selection, though extensive and balanced, is also very pricey. There is a lot of simplifying and price reduction necessary for this place to survive.

We met friends at the restaurant for dinner on a Friday evening. We were seated promptly and had a great waiter. He helped with our wine selection and then proceeded to bring the best wedge salad I've ever had. My husband and friends enjoyed their house salads. We all ordered various fresh fish dishes which were excellent. Our dessert was wonderful but wish they'd had more choices for dessert and perhaps something lighter than cakes and rich chocolates...Perhaps something light and citrus. The coffee was fab!

A great start to a new business
A great start to a new business in Tucson. Food & service was great, and the cosmos are the best in Tucson. i think we've found a new favorite restaurant!

Old World Elegance & Fine Dining
Five Palms was formerly Café Terracota for us locals who'd remember. The new owners have totally revamped the establishment and given it a very unique (for Tucson) old world elegance with dark woods, stained glass, tasteful art, décor and formal seating downstairs. The upstairs bar is more casual, but also very nice. We had fish and beef. All meals were prepared to perfection, tasty, served hot, and the service was impeccable. We had a stellar experience at dinner, sitting outside with a view of the Catalinas. They even brought a purse rack for the ladies which I've never seen in a restaurant before. Wait staff is formal but friendly, with a high-end uniform including vest and tie. Excellent fine dining experience. Highly recommend.

While in town on business, a co-worker and I found this restaurant down the street from our hotel. Apparently, it has just newly opened. While the decor and atmosphere screamed "country club crowd" and the clientele reflected that assumption, the food was delicious. We both had seafood and were not dissapointed. The restaurant does have several different dining areas, some more casual, and we were told they have an expansive wine room (we did not check it out, just ordered a glass off the menu). The violin player walking around was a bit much, but the restaurant was open air and did not feel too stuffy. Not quite what we expected, but the food was worth it.

No place like it in Tucson
To start, you have the option to select your wine from the retail wine shop. The bottle is delivered to your table and opened without a corkage fee. Red wine is decanted and simultaneously chilled. The fresh, hot bread, high quality olive oil and balsamic begin the fantastic dining experience.
Currently the menu is limited, but the owner has announced that the menu will be expanded later this month. Grandma's Tomato Soup is a "must try." The meat and seafood quality is outstanding and both come with choices of delicious sauces.
They have a gorgeous dessert cart and also have table-side preparation of cherries jubilee and bananas foster.
A strolling violinist complimented an overall great dining experience.

Our Tucson Favorite
Top of the list with the top restaurants in Tucson.
The "view" bar upstairs was friendly, a fun place.

Over the top
A very nice dinning experience. Food was good, service was good and it was obvious that the intent was to make this a first class dinning experience. Some of the minor miscues, were too many people greeting you when you walked in, making you feel uncomfortable, not pulling chair out when seating ladies and some clumsiness in serving the food. Being that the restaurant is new, the shortcomings should be worked out quickly. The variety, quality and price of the wine in the wine shop is fantastic, but the process of choosing a wine from the wine shop needs to be better explained to first time diners. Again, the food was very good, but I felt it was a bit overpriced. The ambiance and decor were over the top.

First time visit
Five Palms is a destination restaurant. Plenty of ambience, everyone was very welcoming, our waiter, Scott, was terrific. Lots of little touches, fresh onion bread was yummy and a violinist was playing beautiful, appropriate music and stayed in the background, which we appreciated.. Parking is a problem so using the valet is a viable option. Use the valet, parking is a problem. The food was nicely presented, generous portions and very fresh. Yes, it is expensive, but who would go to a place like that expecting anything else. No real options for vegetarians on the entrée menu.

Great new Restaurant for Tucson.
It is so far the best restaurant I have been to. The service is superb. Everyone is so friendly. Great decor. Good food and nice music. I have been speading the words to all my friends. We will be back for sure.

everything was perfect
5 Palms may be my favorite restaurant in Tucson. Wasn't sure what to expect from all of the mixed reviews and being unable to find a menu online, but I was very impressed from the art, ambiance, live violinist, food, wine, and service. I celebrated an anniversary and was surprised that they didn't do anything special because it is a fine dining standard, but it was easily overlooked because of how exceptional the food and service was. Our server, Marcus, was very knowledgeable about everything we asked and super attentive. The menu carried a variety of foods from Chilean sea bass to Scottish salmon, ribeye to Osaka beef, hummus to cerviche, and even escargot and foie gras. The prices of everything were very, very reasonable. I'll be back!!!

Tucsonians need to Dress
Here we were esting a seventy eight dollar steak and the guy next to us had on sandles with his big fat toes sticking out. some of the guests didn't look like they had taken a bath. I know it's summertime but your going to fine dine....iron your shirt. Is there a dress code?

five times in three weeks
We waited till Five Palms "new restaurant rush" settled as we are foodies to a extreme. We have been there five times in three weeks and the food has been great as well as the service. We are originally from a great beef region and love prime rib, Five Palms is one of the best I have had. The fish is outstanding as well their parchment paper preparation is tasty and healthy...bravo.

Must try this place.
This place is a piece of Old Europe in Tucson. Stained glass ceilings, white tablecloths, very attentive staff and excellent service. No request is too much. A violin played throughout our entire stay.
They have a formal ($$$) dining room, a second more relaxed dining area, with the same menu as the formal dining, and an upstairs bar, where at Happy Hour, you can get a drink and dinner (from a limited menu) for $8. Great views, and you can smoke a cigar in the upstairs patio.
You can choose your wine from their wine, chocolate and ice cream store and pay retail for the wine. Very reasonably priced.
They also have a humidor with a good selection of cigars.
Expensive. Price might be an issue. Upstairs less $$.
We will certainly return!

There are two parts to this
There are two parts to this restaurant. The first is the fine dining side where is was subdued with live violin playing and a superb wait staff. The pricing is on the high side for dining, so for me this will be a real special occasion place. The food quality and portions are in the top 5 in Tucson.
The second part was the casual dining/bar area which was very lively and loud. Sports games on TVs, lots of drinks flowing and great happy hour pricing. I dare say this side of 5 Palms is the part paying the bills.
The time and cost the owners spent building this restaurant had to have cost a real bundle. Absolutely beautiful dark woodwork. Just stop by just to see the interior, but do it during happy hour 4-8 pm.
6/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
I really believe the dress code should be enforced. Some (35-40 yr old)man came in with shorts(cut off jeans), T-Shirt with writing and flip flops and a ball cap backward, that he did not take off. Very inappropriate. His fellow diners we dressed the same. Women were not but men were. I asked the waiter who was going to ask the man to take his hat off? He replied "not me". Should be remnded at the door. Upstairs seating that dress would be OK, not downstairs dining.

Europe in the Desert
This is a very unusual restaurant for Tucson, it has no desert reminders. It is decorated as you would expect a restaurant in Europe, given the paintings and trimmings/ It is also a meat lovers dream; there are some incredible meat selections. The fish is also outstanding. The service was great and the feel of the restaurant was exceptional. A very interesting aspect was the liquor store attached to the restaurant; while the wine list is small, you can buy a bottle in the store and have it with dinner. The prices are at retail and the selection is large. The bar upstairs has a great happy hour and a great view. This is a special place/

Five palms was a great experience. Everyone's food was fantastic! The service was superb and the place is beautiful. I was however surprised not see any shrimp dishes on the menu especially being so close to some of the best shrimp around. The prices are very high so don't plan on a being cheap date. I would recommend everyone to go enjoy the food and the ambiance at least once. I know I will be going back!

European-style opulence hits Tucson
Five Palms is unlike any Tucson restaurant in atmosphere. Its decadent decor contains nary a Southwest tinge, which is a nice change to the usual earth-toned hues in restaurants citywide. There's even a man playing the violin, making for a romantic night. Ask for Travis to serve you.
The ability to buy a retail-priced wine in their shop and drink it anywhere in the restaurant for no corking fee is unique to Tucson. Expect to pay a lot for a full dinner downstairs (mostly steaks and seafood), but the well-priced bar menu upstairs has the best happy hour in town ($8 for a drink and an entree from 4 to 7 p.m. daily). We had a shrimp burger with fries and paella with lots of safood and a glass of white and red wine during our last outing.

Bastille day dinner
My family always celebrates Bastille day with dinner out and we wanted to try Five Palms. I was pleasantly surprised that it was very good. Sometimes with new restaurants the hype is more than the reality. The salad and the oysters were outstanding. We had a child with us and there were babies at the next table but everything went smoothly. A violinist played in the background and the music choices were great. We loved guessing what the tune was. I had two small disappointments overall. The wine selection was not very good and did not include any rose. Also I ordered a sazerac and was told I had stumped the bartender. I did get a great manhattan though. Overall we had a good time and will be back again. Good job.

The setting is classic and
The setting is classic and romantic. The 6oz sirloin and the cheesy scalloped potatoes were the best I've ever had. The price for this particular entree was $25 but very filling. Just the right amount of food. We went there for a friend's birthday. It's best to check out the wine in the bar area before sitting down to dine. We were told the wine was sold at retail price there. This restaurant is great for a special occasion. The violinist played beautifully.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Swanky & Sophisticated
Class all the way. The happy hour permits a drink and specific food item for $8, which is awesome if you do not want to spend a ton of money in the dinning room. I hung out for happy hour in the upstairs outdoor deck with beautiful views. The upstairs indoor bar is cozy and lively, bright and elegant. I then had dinner in the dining room, which was gloriously decorated with colorful stained glass lighting. The service was phenomenal. The wine was excellent, though not a large wine list. The filet was good, though a bit salty, and the bananas foster was flamingly exciting! We had an excellent time all around and would recommend this place to anyone. This will be our new hangout!
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had waited to dine in the Fine Dining Restaurant for quite a while to let them work out the kinks and based on some of the other earlier reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was very good, the atmosphere wonderful and the food was well prepared. The prices are very high, as we were forewarned, but the quality was very good. The only concern that we had was we suspected the Bombay Sapphire Gin and Woodford Reserve Bourbon were watered down, as we had each straight up with no other additives and we know their tastes and it really seemed that they were not full strength for whatever reason. Apart from that we were pleasantly surprised and pleased with our dining experience.

A new 5 star restaurant for Tucson
This is a linen table cloth, first class restaurant. The menu is about average size and has both extensive meat and fresh-daily fish dishes. The wine selection consists of a retail type store on the premises that has wine at about average retail prices. You may select any wine from the store for your meal at no additional corkage fee. This makes their wine much less expensive than a normal fine dining restaurant. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive. We dined there on a Friday evening and there was a violinist playing softly in the background....no problem with a muted conversation. The prices are what you would expect at a five star fine dining restaurant. This is not a place for "budget" diners. We will be back.

Low-key, pleasant ambiance
Beautiful surroundings embellished with awesome stained glass displays set the stage for a spectacular meal. Service was outstanding -- readily available to meet our needs but not intrusive or hovering. My request for a window table that was not in the "middle" of the room was honored. Noise level was hushed, a true plus on my list. The violinist was a great touch. I have already recommended Five Palms to one friend without reservation (pardon the pun...). My prime rib was the best I've ever had, although the entree ordered by my friend, soft shell crabs, turned out to be unavailable even though we ate early in the evening. The appetizers and side dishes were memorable in their own right. Truly a fine dining experience all around.

We were celebrating a recent achievement and were new to Tucson. The Realtor suggested the Five Palms, so we tried it and it was very good.
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Continues to impress....
This was our second visit to the fine dining area of Five Palms, and it was top notch. Food and service were excellent, and we love buying top flight wines at retail, not restaurant, prices. We began with the scallop with manchego and the deviled oysters. Both were delicious. We followed with the wonderful cucumber salad and a wedge salad that my wife said is the best she has ever had (and we order it often). For entrees she had the petite filet, and I the rack of lamb. We were amazed how they cooked them to our liking (medium rare and medium, respectively, without over-charring the outside. We paired the courses with a split of champagne and then a super Tuscan which we picked out at their retail store before sitting down.

Great for a romantic dinner.
We went there for our anniversary and were glad we did. The fresh seafood was great! I had the Chilean sea bass and my husband had the Alaskan halibut. Both were wonderful, perfectly prepared with our choice of sauces. There was a small selection of side dishes to choose from. We each had the stuffed pepper, which was delicious, but I would like to have seen a few more choices of sides on the menu. The whole setting was delightful, with wood paneling and mirrors on the walls, beautiful china, stained glass on the ceiling and various other touches. The service was excellent and there was even a violinist playing. Perfect for a special celebration.

Absolutely had the best dinners
Absolutely had the best dinners we ever had in Tucson. We had outstandingly fresh oysters as appetizers. The Scottish salmon was perfectly done and mouth wateringly delicious. The rib eye steak was excellently done, precise to order and a nice size portion. Even the sides, a wild brown rice with peas and carrots and potatoes au gratin were delicious. The atmosphere was elegant but not overly pretentious. Our waiter, Marcus, was attentive, good humored and responsive. We will be back!

Service Still Needs Work
We went for my birthday. I had read the multiple comments re: decor, food and service. This restaurant is very expensive, which we knew going in. The problem with putting yourself out there as a top of the line restaurant charging more money than anything else around, sets the expectation for top of the line service. Our waiter took 1/2 hour to show up and kept telling us all through dinner that his lack of attention wasn't his fault, as he was stretched too thin. This is really not the customer's problem. There were several "suits" walking around checking to see if all was ok. Why didn't they help? The bus staff was great and very attentive. The food was great and decor as advertised. Hopefully, things will improve over time.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good but not Great.
Service was very good. Overall a good experience would return. Oysters were good but could have been colder. Salmon was overly salty....

Romantic dinner out
Wonderful dinner for a special occasion. The steak was cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths. The cooked spinach was terrific. The beans had a bit too much garlic for our tastes. We had the Cherries Jubilee for dessert which was a fun and delicious experience. The service was terrific all around. We picked out a bottle of wine before dinner and had it served with our meal. The violinist was a nice touch.

Very nice experience. Restraunt is beautiful. Excellent service. Violinist was very nice. Prices were more than expected and comparable food can be found at other establishments at a more reasonable price.

Tucson's New Standard for Fine Dine
Besides the 1st class food, service, and venue, the outstanding feature is the wine shop. Choose and purchase your wine before dinner, and its delivered direct to your table. Excellent stock of great wine and all at very reasonable retail prices... I mean beats the big box wine merchant prices. No corkage fee, either. Food and service are as good or better than Tucson has seen in many years.

The Ono fish and Sea Bass
The Ono fish and Sea Bass were delicious. The dinning room was romantic with fabulous service. Would definitely go back. There's an upstairs outdoor more casual restaurant also.
We had tasty oysters too.

Great Food & Service
Overall the food, ambiance and service was OUTSTANDING.
However, the only thing that took away from the overall dining experience, was the violinist who played NON-STOP for the entire meal. I would have rated this a 10 out of 10, except for the violinist....
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
Thanksgiving, and the food was fabulous. We came early to choose our own wines from the wine store on site, and then were greeted by Nino, and given just the table we wanted. Food was absolutely fabulous. Two of us ordered the turkey meal, moist turkey, great sides, and we ordered prime rib, the best we have had in Tucson, cooked to perfection, a restaurant much needed here in Tuscon. You have choices, fine dining, a downstairs bar, and an unstairs bar and grill, with an elevator to get you there.
Has everything one could ask for. We love and are going back tonight. The G's

The entry way is decked out for the holidays and what a sight to see! We started our dining experience with drinks, not all that impressed, bar and cocktails not great however the wines were fabulous! We went in to the specialty store, picked wines for the evening then headed in for dinner. The service from then on out was stupendous, our server even brought out extra anchovies when he over heard my husband say how much he liked them. The french onion soup to start was the best I have EVER had and beautifully presented. A must try! From there we moved to entrees: salmon, chicken and steak all were seasoned and cooked beautifully. Unfortunately we enjoyed this all too much and could not try any of the desserts which all sounded incredible.
