Sweet Basil's hip new sister @Vail
We have loved Sweet Basil for years and now Mountain Standard is a good alternative to dining at Vail. Friendly staff, hip organic modern decor, brilliantly classically prepared dishes. The Coal Roasted Olives to start are a must...we are just trying to figure out how to make them back at home in Toronto.

Excellent meal from start
Excellent meal from start to finish. Excellent service. I would absolutely return.

Such great food and so nicely presented. A gem in Vail Village.

From start to finish, everything
From start to finish, everything was fabulous!
The hostess was kind and attentive to seating us and even gave us options as to where we'd like to sit. The server was knowledgable and had some awesome recommendations. The food was outstanding! Bone marrow and pork belly to start, can't go wrong.
I highly recommend Mountain Standard, excellent dining experience.
3/24/2013 5:00:00 PM
The food was creative and delicious. The lamb was done perfectly, the salad was big enough for two, and the chocolate dessert so good that I only got one bite after my son torn into it.
If I had more time, I would return gladly.

We loved our salad. Great
We loved our salad. Great mixture of tastes. Salmon was very good although too large for me. Service was just right. The waiter seemed to be there just at the right times. Could use more vegetarian options. Not interested in any of the meat dishes and shrimp was said to be too spicy. A great experience and we'll be back.

Great new taste for Vail!
Service was great! Our waiter gave us great suggestions on what to order & they were all delicious!! I give the chef kudos for using Tamari instead of regular soy sauce in the food. Thank you, I've been gluten free for 3 yrs & so appreciate this. I just wish there was a dessert option besides the standard ice cream or sorbet. Even berries would be good. We look forward to going back to mountain standard to try some more dishes. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked great!

Imaginative Take on Farm to Table
An imaginative take on midwestern standards using field and farm to table approaches to cooking. Wonderful appetizers--shrimp and grits, coal fired olives and whiskey pork belly.
Terrific entrees--grilled cod on polenta, country pork chop and rotisserie chicken. Small restaurant with great view of bustling kitchen. Reserve to make sure you get in. You won't regret the experience.

Mother's Day treat!
the two of us were happy to find Mountain Standard open during Vail's mud season. the staff was extremely attentive and fun. the pork belly appetizer was perfect. my date's salmon was cooked to perfection in delicious light broth, and my pulled rotisserie chicken salad hit the spot. affordable too. Cheers!

A great dining experience!
I would highly recommend Mountain Standard to anyone who loves to dine. The food is excellent with choices of fish, beef, and a wonderful shrimp dish with cheese, and grits. Very tasty. The restaurant looks onto the Gore Creek. They also offer lunch! You can also sit outside to dine, and people watch. This is my moms favorite spot to dine!
The staff is friendly, and you feel welcome, not rushed.

Not up to usual level
Pork chop special for the night was tough, overcooked. Salmon was fine as was the trout. Server seemed to disappear after we started our second bottle of wine -- not sure if she ran off with it (!) as we did not seem to see the bottom. Nice location, though.

Mountain Standard quickly
Mountain Standard quickly joined our "A" list for Vail Valley restaurants. It has a beautiful interior with an open kitchen and is simply a fun, refreshing restaurant with very good food, excellent service and an uncomplicated menu. We first ate here four days after it opened in December, 2012 and were surprised how seamless their start-up appeared to be. We've been back several times since.

Great Food, Excellent Service, Loud
Their wood burning fire / oven is what makes their cooking style different from the sister restaurant upstairs (Sweet Basil), plus a few more rustic touches. Most of the food was exceptional, and their oyster shucker is good (not the norm at other restaurants in Vail). If you don't mind a loud environment, then you will likely enjoy it here.

Great addition to the dining
Great addition to the dining options in Vail. Good food in a relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff.

Dinner was pricier than expected but worth it. Fresh food, excellent service...highly recommend for a night out in Vail!
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Mountain Standard turned out a tasty trout dish in a vibrant atmosphere overlooking Gore Creek. Their menu primarily featured raw oysters, shrimp, and fish dishes today. We were told the menu changes. Delicious!!! Wonderfully prepared!! Kudos to the chef! We'll be back.

Great food, nice place
Everything here was great. My only regret in writing this review is that it will be even harder to get a table!

Great pork chop
Best pork chop tender tasty. Entre menu not huge but good.

Foodie FTW in Vail
We choose for an appetizer "3 little pigs" - prosciutto and other hams. It was the best I've ever had, especially the Iberico. Their twist on caprese salad was the most creative I've ever had. The wine list was incredible. Discount any review that someone posts that includes what they think about anything with a fried potato or a slider - that's not why you should go there. Pick something amazing and creative - my wife and I won't ever forget how good this place was

Overall Excellent Dining
Varied but not too expansive menu - something for everyone. Of particular note were the Alaskan Halibut, Mountain Trout and Lamb. Service was prompt, helpful and friendly. Only disappointment was dessert - we opted for an ice cream special which was ok but not of the same caliber as the rest of the meal.

Great Lunch Spot in Vail!
When we came we requested to sit outside, unfortunately it started to rain and got cold really fast. Even though the patio is covered it was freezing, we asked to be moved and the staff was very helpful. Our food was great, portions are little big and they don't have bottled water, instead they offered their filtered water @ $2 per bottle. Their water tasted same as the tap water, don't waste your money on filtered. Every restaurant should be able to offer you bottled water, after all you pay for it. Great place to grab lunch next time you are in Vail, CO. We will for sure be back next year, hopefully they will have bottled water :-)

Twice loved it!!!
My husband and I have eaten there twice with friends and both times it was perfect! Loved the food, the wine and our servers were charming!

Terrific pork belly appetizer
Terrific pork belly appetizer and the shrimp and grits (also on appy menu) was the best we've ever had. Fried green tomatoes are worth sharing for the homemade ranch alone. Great beers on tap and excellent wine menu. Oyster shooters are a must!

Awesome food and service - cannot wait to eat there the next time we are in Vail. Onion soup was outstanding as soup du jour.

Absolutely the best food I've had in vail, let alone Denver for a while! Everything was perfect; the way it was cooked, the timing, the flavors.....incredible experience!!!

Simply The Best
I knew this was going to be good when I saw the pig on their sign. We took our two toddlers and loved it. The margaritas were awesome. We had fig & pig flat bread, grilled artichoke. shrimp & grits, snow crab, caesar salad, carolina gold rice and an amazing pork chop over street corn and spoon bread. This is the best restaurant in Vail. These guys can cook!
8/30/2013 5:00:00 PM
Had a five star lunch on the patio! Our server Charlie gave us a detailed tour of the menu, and took great care of us! And the food was delicious and fresh! Heirloom tomatoes, Castle vetrano & kalmata olives with pine nuts, gazpacho with cucumber ice, and decadent devils food cake! Mmmm

Great New Restaurant at Vail
Owned by a long time favorite - Sweet Basil - Mountain Standard is a great new restaurant - casual - wonderful eclectic menu items - right by Gore Creek - you will love it!

Best restaurant in Vail Village!
The menu is focused on local and seasonal ingredients - great variety and quality without being fussy. The artichokes, heirloom tomato/burrata salad and fried green tomatoes are a must. The halibut and chicken were fantastic and the strawberry shortcake is the best I've had. Great drinks and wine selection as well. The service was excellent - warm and knowledgeable but not intrusive. Wonderful atmosphere and location. I can't wait to go back!
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were recommended by the concierge at the lodge at vail and they were spot on. More laid back than their sister restaurant sweet basil and food was just as good. Someone must order the shrimp and grits absolutely delishish.

Great addition to Vail
Love the look, love the ambiance. Food was great, service nice. Not crowded for off-season lunch, but I'm sure that during the winter and summer months, there will be a line going out the door for lunch and dinner.

First time here but will return for sure. We enjoyed the meal very much - fun and energetic place. Love the menu and the creative dishes. Fun to hear the cook staff verbalize.

Fall dining in Vail
The flavors of the dishes were very interesting and unique. We were a table of 5 and everyone had a good meal and enjoyed their appetizers, as well. The shrimp and grits and the flatbread were delicious. I requested a table overlooking the creek and in warm weather, the outside dining would be lovely.

The service and food were both excellent!!! The chicherones were awesome and tuna crudo delish!

Mountain Standard is our new
Mountain Standard is our new favorite restaurant in Vail. We are big foodies but love good soul food and here they merge the best of both worlds. Although a smaller menu, everything is worth trying once. The Porg Belly appetizer is delicious and their raw bar oysters have never disappointed. We recommend Mountain Standard to anyone looking for a fun atmosphere and memborable meal. The Outdoor dining in the summer is great.

Romantic Dinner for Two
My boyfriend and I had our date night here on Friday. The food was excellent and the ambiance was perfect! The service was not at the level it should be. I would say the waitress was not very interested in doing her job, but aside from that... I would go back again!
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Probably the best food I've ever had. Went during off season so entrees were relatively cheap
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Mountain Standard. We started with the shrimp and grits that were so good and then we shared the turkey club and pork rueben. Everything was so yummy and fresh! Great mix of textures and flavors and good spin on typical dishes. Even the fries and onion rings were really fresh and good! Enjoy!

Great spot on Gore Creek
If you can get a table by the windows looking out over the park-like setting along Gore Creek, take the table. Be warned that it's a little colder in mid-winter when you're right next to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
This a fun place, but the service is on par with that of the best restaurants in the area. The bar staff especially surprised me with their knowledge of not only their beers and wines, but the extensive knowledge about every little quirk of the food menu.
You can't go wrong with any of the food. The pork shank was my choice, and it was unbelievable.
