The food menu was amazing!!!!!!!!!
who knew that a place call "The Ale House" would have top notch quality food. This place competes with the best of them. Places like Clyde's, The Hamilton (in DC), and other fine dining restaurants will soon find this place to be a threat. I must admit the name in itself had me worried because i have a infant and toddler, so i called ahead to make sure it was kid friendly and equipped to handle us. I was amazed by the quick service, pleasant staff, AMAZING FOOD and the TV's yes the TV's were great to have. This place is great for any crowd, and they have VALET Parking; who knew that existed in Columbia :-) CHECK IT OUT! You wont regret it!!!!!

Everyone liked their dinner
Everyone liked their dinner except my husband who got a grilled chicken sandwich that he thought had no taste and needed some sauce. He also did not care for the cole slaw.

over priced but good food
one of the few brunch places I found in the Columbia area. I thought the waitress was nice and knowledgeable about the food. however, I thought the brunch menu was limited and over priced. So instead I got a turkey burger and fries... very good!

The menu was more sophisticated
The menu was more sophisticated than I thought it would be for an Ale House. They have plenty of cocktails and wines on the menu if you don't love beer. If you love beer, you will be in heaven. The decor inside also exceeded expectations and the food was great. Recommend the nachos if you like hot stuff.

love this place!
i brought my foodie friend here for dinner last week. he LOVED everything....tired to steal my food too. We kept it simple with the pasta and the chicken but we had the skillet cookie for dessert. he said he'll be back...and i know i will :)

The Ale House was a nice spot for a get together. It was fun to try the beers. The decor is modern and attractive.

pleasant sports bar
airy sports bar with good beer list and nice dinner entrees .
The light, high ceilings and step above bar food menu made this a pleasnt evening

The (relatively) New Spot
I've been here a handful of times and have never been disappointed. I love the Brewhouse Pretzels, the Mac and Cheese, the Fish Tacos, and of course my favorite draft is the Foxbarrel Blackberry Pear Cider (YUM!). It's a great place to meet up with a friend or a whole group. Parking can be very difficult but there is a complementary valet service (which I haven't tried yet). It's a funny thing to add in a review but I also really like the 2-seater booths they have, they are so cozy for lunch with a friend or perhaps a romantic dinner.

Birthday Dinner at Ale house
If you like beer and good food (okay so really if your human) this is a great place to go! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday recently and between dinner and a couple drinks each, it was $60 including tip. The food was great! He had the best french dip either of us have had in a LONG time! I had the cajun chicken pasta and it was really good as well. I like that they offer lots of different types of beer, not just whats in season, as I am a stout girl. Really the only down fall is the parking situation!! If you plan on going make sure you give yourself PLENTY of time to circle the lot a million times for parking and then be prepared to wait for a table. Or your best bet is to get a reservation and use valet parking!

Best in Columbia!
Not just an alehouse with a top-of-the-line beer selection - this restaurant has delicious food, that would make any foodie satisfied! I can always find something amazing to eat or drink here. The menu stays consistent enough that my favorites are always there for me, yet their seasonal options always give me something new, and keep things interesting. The only downside of this place is occasional service issues - not from management or long term employees, just from a few servers who seem to be more transient.
I've spent years dining in LA, San Diego, & DC and am very picky about what I consider quality food & beer. This is hands-down the best restaurant in the Howard County area. I definitely recommend a visit here.

Great Food/Great Beer List
Love this place! Though it's been open less than a year, the Ale House is a great spot to meet with friends and grab a bite to eat. The food is always top notch (I LOVE the fried egg burger, YUM), and the waitstaff and bar staff are friendly and not overly attentive (which is a personal turn-off).
Parking lot is usually crowded, and as with most Columbia restaurants, you'll have a wait for a table at dinner. They do have valet available on the weekends, though, and there's usually a spot at one of the bars where you can sit and eat (with no wait). Try a few of their beers in their cute little sample cups!

Great experience all around
We were surprised how busy it was during our visit. Despite being busy at both the bar and at the tables we had a great experience. The menu had a great variety of options. We really appreciated our waitress Madison. She was fantastic. She explained the happy hour deals which were great options at great prices. She was exceedingly helpful and attentive the entire evening. The food was great but Madison's level of service really pushed the experience over the top. This is a great option for happy hour, meeting up with friends or with family. Ask for Madison!

A group of friends and I went to The Alehouse on Saturday to celebrate my birthday and one of the girlfriend's birthday. Four out of the 5 of us had never been before. I honestly was not expecting the nice decor or the great food. Our waiter David was great! We selected the nachos and honey sriracha wings for our appetizers, both were excellent! For my entree, I decided on the fish tacos, however they were very dry. One of my friends decided on the mac and cheese, she added bacon and crab meat to it. IT WAS AWESOME!!!! I decided to switch my tacos for the mac and cheese. The manager (Chris) came by to make sure that everything was ok when he learned that I was not happy with my original entree. I'm looking forward to coming back!

The atmosphere was very comfortable and casual at alehouse. I really enjoyed my salad and the portion was good. However my guest got the tacos and the portion was small. It came with three small tacos and no sides, and wasn't enough for a meal. Our server was good and we loved the beer list! Also great desserts!

Fab beer list
It was a good choice for a quick Sunday evening meal. Great beer choices and we loved the ability to get various size glasses, including a 5 oz which is a good way to taste a couple of beers. Enjoyed the mussels with excellent bread and broth and my partner liked his French dip. Was initially disappointed not to find a side salad, but the vegetable slaw in vinagrette was a perfect side salad, very fresh carrots, peppers and cabbage. It's probably jammed at popular times, but there was lots of space at 6:30 on a Sunday evening.

New in Columbia
For quick service, great food, friendly staff go to The Alehouse Columbia.

Really Good Local Sports-Bar Option
I like sports bars. I like the atmosphere, ambiance, food and drink selections. Alehouse Columbia is an upscale take on this warm fuzzy, with an interesting beer and drink list bordering on the exceptional. The menu is simple and straight forward bar food, but its bar-food done exceptionally well by a kitchen staff who cares.
The restaurant was reasonable crowded on an early Wednesday evening in the late summer. I cannot imagine it on a (say) football Sunday, but it will be fun to check out and see. It's possible that some seats may not offer great TV viewing, but the only way to know for sure is to try it and see. Staffers we met were pleasant, prompt and courteous.
It's a little pricey but it's Columbia. We'll be back for sure.

Sat outside on the deck and
Sat outside on the deck and it was very warm and enjoyable. Service was good and any questions we had about the beer list was answered by the waitress. Waitress also recommended a choice when asked which beer was better. After our meal and bill was paid, we hung around for another drink and ordered the drink at the outside bar. The bartender outside was far less enjoyable than the waitress becasuse she was too busy talking with friends than waiting on patrons.

I liked my turkey burger.
I liked my turkey burger. Didn't care much for waitress though. Brought hot tea to table without any sugar-- then had to ask twice for Splenda. By the time she got back to the table-- my tea had cooled off.

Great as always
I continue to be impressed with the Alehouse. Everything I have ever eaten is delicious, and they manage the crowds of this enormously popular place extremely well. I recommend making a reservation, even if it is only a half hour in the future.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have enjoyed The Ale House the two times I have gone. The staff was friendly, the Beer/Ale listings were quite extensive and everyone enjoyed sampling. The Mac/Cheese was AWESOME and nice shareable portion unless you want your tummy to be super full. Overall very nice experience!
Oh , also I love that they will seat a group even if only one person has arrived. I had a party of 6 and was still seated though my party was still in transit to the restaurant on a BUSY Friday night.

My neighborhood restaurant
Love this restaurant for comfortable dining, friendly service and pleasant atmosphere

Try it ! You'll Love it!!
I wasn't sure about this place at first since it was called the "Ale House." First thing that comes to the mind is beer and pretzels and nothing else.
Wrong, the place is very friendly, you can bring the kids and the service is outstanding. The food (especially the mac and cheese which you can add crab meat, lobster or anything else of your choosing) The ribs are so meaty. You will love this place.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice for a leisurely lunch
A group of us from the office dined at the Ale House for lunch. We eventally spent hours, just dining and sitting outside (meeting!). We never felt rushed...just a relaxed environment with excellent service.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good Food and Beer, but Noisy
The food is very good and the beer selection is nice, but it is on the loud side, especially on a Friday evening with people coming in for a drink after work. Still it's a nice experience and it has a good kids menu so it's a fine alternative for families looking for something different. Parking is an issue, but that has more to do with the location than anything else.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great beer, great food!
This was our first time to the Columbia Ale House since it had been the location for one of our favorite places to go, Rocky Run!! Love that you can sample beers and that there are so many to choose from. Our server was very, very good. He was timely, polite and friendly, but not overly so.
We had the nachos as an appetizer, which were very good. Chips are individually prepared with lots of nacho-worthy ingredients. Not a huge portion but a nice enough portion to share between 2 adults and 2 kids.
For dinnerI had a chicken BBQ flatbread which was good. Kids had Mac and cheese-mmmm good, rich but nice and cheesy, kids loved it. Hubby had a burger which was even better than my flatbread. Loved it here and we will be back!
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
A large business group sat outside to enjoy a farewell lunch with a colleague. Had a nice leisurely lunch, without feeling hurried. Food was good, with some nice seasonal selections Would definitely dine at The Ale House again.

Really good food and beer
I don't consider myself a foodie. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of person and I know what I like. On my visit to the Ale House I started with the buffalo shrimp—large shrimp in a spicy sauce finished with blue cheese crumbles and ranch. Very good. For dinner: the Egg burger—a bacon cheeseburger topped with a fried egg and a house sauce. It was amazing. As odd as it sounds, I highly recommend trying it. I also tried a number of House craft beers—Last Train to Satansville (smoked black ale), 3 Lions (English Brown), Sheer Greed (Nitro) and Irish Style Red. All were delicious. I liked the fact that I could purchase 5 oz samples and experiment with a variety of beers. If your a beer and burger guy like me, I'd highly recommend.

The Alehouse Columbia is great, in my opinion. Each time I have gone, I have not been disappointed - not entirely true (the first time I went they were out of fish tacos but instead offered a delectable ahi tuna burger) which I have gotten since. I am sure I will try the tacos next time I go.
The beer is good, with the variety you'd expect considering it is an alehouse after all. I would say this restaurant is great for groups and night outings. It can get quite noisy and busy on the weekends so I suggest making a reservation. I don't really have any negatives at the moment so...
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Each time I go to Alehouse the food is amazing and the mixed drinks are always impeccable. I highly recommend the mussels, fish tacos, short ribs and seafood cobb. Only drawback is that it is so popular if you don't book a reservation early Fri/Sat wait times are ridiculous. Can't wait to come back!
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
our local favorite
always pleased with the food.....SOMETIMES THE WAIT STAFF IS JUST OKAY....TOO MANY CHANGES RECENTLY.....Try to stay consistent and keep the same help.....it is a HUGE ADVANTAGE TO REGULARS.
Also, I made last nighs reservations on OPEN TABLE, HOWEVER, THE TABLE I REQUESTED WAS NOT RESERVED FOR US (AFTER i TOLD THE GUESTS wE WERE DINING WITH THAT WE WOULD BE SEATED AT OUR "favorite table".........SO CONSEQUENTLY WE WERE NOT HAPPY WITH THAT SITUATION SINCE SOMEONE ELSE WAS IN BOOTH #231 .
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
really enjoyed everything
really enjoyed everything and will definitely good back again!
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a relaxing, enjoyable dining experience. The food arrived in a short time, the order was correct, everyone at the table liked their meal and had a conversation in a normal speaking voice. The person that served us was very attentive.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Notable Beer List
This wasn't a choice for recommendation, but beer is what this "Ale House" is all about. You come here for the beer and the food is good in that context. We had great service even though the restaurant was busy on a Friday night.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great selection of custom
Great selection of custom beers for every pallet. The food was surprisingly really, really good, from the appetizers to the dessert, everything was delicious and fresh tasting. The service was friendly and timely. I will definitely go back and recommend The Ale House to friends.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
ive been here before...several times and this was for mom's birthday. it was great and quiet on a monday night. our server was awesome and the food was great. my parents are pretty picky eaters and found good selections from the menu. we each had a dessert and everyone agreed to try the others. i'll be back :)
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
+1 Beer! +1 Food! -1 Cider
As typical at the Ale House, the opportunity to create your own tasting flight of 5oz beer servings is wonderful for those of us enamored by variety. The food menu offers a good variety and consistently high quality.
Our only recommendation is to skip the bottled hard cider.
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Music. Was very good
Will Hill was a great choice. Hope you have them again. Thanks for a great time and great food.
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Reservations on line were easy and fast. Will definitely use that option again. Have been to the restaurant before, and like the variety of the menu - not your usual selections, as well as the beer options.

Great Sunday Meal
The Alehouse Columbia was great. First of all for a Sunday afternoon during football season the service was fast. You must try the meat loaf, mushroom gravy( made with one of their ales), over mashed potatoes and the Brussels sprouts with maple bacon.....Off the charts.
11/2/2013 5:00:00 PM
food was very good. mostly bar food but well prepared and presented. our server wasn't quite with it but tried hard and got the job done.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Not just bar food - great food
Food is amazingly better than "bar food" Excellent variety - something for everyone from the more sophisticated to the basic eater. We were very surprised by the quality of food as we were expecting "bar food" and dined on excellent cuisine. Our young waitress was excellent - attentive and accommodating. Beer lovers the list is great!

Alehouse is as advertised. Excellent beer list. Lots of TV for games. Burger, omelette, mussels, all prepared well. Nice place to meet friends

Great food and Craft beer
The food was fantastic - something for everything (allergies, intolerance, etc) and of course the beer selections were outstanding! People that dont normally enjoy beer will find something tasty to pair with their food! Service was outstanding! Very attentive and considerate. Always cleared empty dishes- and refilled glasses! Very well done!

Nice Brew (Ale) House!
Very bright and spacious. Great selection of beers, both self brewed and others. The Ironman Pale Ale was very good. We both had the braised ribs, very tender and nicely seasoned and presented. We ordered the vegetable risotto as an extra side, it was delicious, nice "kick" to it too. Apparently, they have live music on Friday nights so we'll definitely be back on a Friday to check that out.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
We made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner at The Ale House when we were not able to book at Clyde's. We didn't know what to expect, and we were very pleasantly surprised. First surprise was they kept happy hour pricing for drinks and appetizers on the holiday! We ordered their Thanksgiving turkey special, and it was delicious. The Maple Farm turkey was tender and juicy. The green beans were perfectly cooked...not carrot-stick crunchy, not school cafeteria mushy. We would have preferred traditional gravy on the mashed potatoes instead of onion crisps. We tried both of their Thanksgiving desserts and loved them. We'll be back next year.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
My friends and I went to The Alehouse because our party consisted of people coming from PA, MD, and VA. We were a party of four and two of us had been there on many occasions and the food and service is always top-notch. My 3 girlfriends and I were there for our yearly Thanksgiving weekend reunion lunch and The Alehouse did not disappoint. There was something on the menu for everyone and everyone really enjoyed their meal. Also, since they knew we were there for a special occasion, there was no pressure to eat and leave. I also held my son's high school graduation dinner here for 25 people - didn't have to book a private room, didn't need to order from a special menu, and our food came out together - no hassles. Love this place.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Probably won't be back.
This was our second visit. This first time was fun- good food, exceptional service.
This last time, we felt rushed. The server took our app order before we had time to look at the beer menu. Dinner arrived about 2 minutes after finishing our apps. We were done in about 35 minutes. Not what we look forward to when we go out on a Saturday night.
My buffalo chicken flat bread pizza wasn't anything to write home about. The cheese was barely melted. The french dip should have a larger 'dipping bowl'. The sandwich doesn't fit in the tiny cup.
