This is our third time to enjoy a lovely evening at this restaurant. The four of us shared a couple of small plates and then salads finishing up with pizzas. The wine list is wonderful and we enjoy returning often.

Great new neighborhood spot.
Great new neighborhood spot. Good entrees, fresh ingredients. Desserts were deeeelish. The service was very mediocre. The noise inside is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY loud. Plentiful heat lamps outside that actually do a good job of warming up the space.

Great food but no speak.
I am torn about this place. The food is excellent, however the noise level is OUT OF CONTROL.
They are well aware of the lack of acoustic design and how loud it gets.
When I approached the hostess and express my concern, she dismissed me very politely by saying: "Well, this is the way the owners want it as it is part of the scene".
We will likely come back at 'odd' hours to enjoy the food, but certainly not to be part of the 'scene' with this chick.

Food is great and love the
Food is great and love the addition to Rose. Acoustics need improvement as we had to shout to order with our server. Bartender gets 5 stars: Our sever didnt understand the cocktails orders and as a result the bartender took the time to come to our table to ensure he understood the requests. Cocktails were perfect!
Others amongst my party felt like it was too bright but not a concern with me....

I think Piccolo is one of
I think Piccolo is one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, and the Hostaria is such a great idea. Some of the same delicious food at a much more reasonable price. I plan on coming back many times. But one of the best things about Piccolo is its quiet but relaxed elegance. The Hostaria is anything but, thanks to the loud music they play. And I wouldn't mind loud music if it were current and thoughtfully curated, but they play classic rock, which is entirely unsuited to the room or the food.
My only other criticism is aimed not just at Hostaria Piccolo but a lot of new places that are replacing chairs with benches. The custom side tables here are beautiful, but no more comfortable than a picnic table.

Unusual and outstanding freshly prepared food. Very knowledgeable, helpful waitstaff. Very very noisy inside at Venice location .Expensive but interesting wine selections.

The food is delicious. What else do you need to know?

Pastas are excellent and pizzas inventive. Had the spinach pappardelle with duck ragout and it was so yummy. Was very noisy inside. Would sit outside next time.

My husband and I went to this spot with our 2 1/2 year old. He loved the bench style seats but if it was a crowded day, I'd hate to be sitting on one of those shared benches. The service was good but all the waiters seemed distracted by a semi-final NBA game on the t.v. The food was wonderful. I ordered the gnocci with tomato sauce and my husband had a white four cheese pizza. The wine was good but was served too cold. Our son ate off our plates. When the waiter came to our table our son asked him for toast. The waiter was suprised and had no idea how to respond... we got some bread with olive oil which was perfectly fine for our son.

Nice for quick dinner
I took a date here who is a local. We had a nice time because it was intimate yet very lively, and nice but casual, which is a rare find. This is a nice first stop on a date for locals or those visiting the area.
The food was not that great, (not bad but not memorable). Though I am honestly a bit biased because I am not a fan of Italian food . We each had a smaller pizza, which are perfect sizes and light. They had a great selection of wine and beer. Not a huge list but enough of the good stuff.
The service was excellent and the staff super helpful. I would come here again if I was in the area.

We had an incredible meal here and will be frequenting this place. The wild boar sausage appetizer was one of the tastier things I've ever eaten. Truly delicious. The service was top notch. Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and was happy to chat and give her feedback to us. We were dining with a couple regulars, so the owner visited our table a couple times to make sure we were fully satisfied. Just amazing food, ambiance and service. Highly recommend!
5/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Sitting outside on a lovely evening is great. The noise level is so much quieter than inside. Our meal was lovely. We shared Fried Calamari and then their wonderful moist and ender stuffed chicken with a side of delectable beans. Can't remember the desert but it was delicious!!
5/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent, flavorful food.
Excellent, flavorful food. Service attentive and informative. Noise level high but manageable. Fun night. Worth a visit.

Great food but...
Hostaria is one of the loudest reaturants I have ever been in. That said, the food is great and the service is quite good as well. I was however VERY disappointed when we asked to take a portion of our food home and as it was brought to the table it was spilled by the busboy. He apologized and disappeared. No one said a word nor did we get our leftovers. Pretty cheesy if you ask me.
5/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
very good food but beware the noise
We had a great dinner there last week. The food was very good (though be careful, the dishes can be on the heavy side). The gnocchi were the best I ever had. Service was friendly (no too-cool-to-be-friendly like in other places) but a bit spotty. We had a switch of waiter and the new waiter seemed to have forgotten or not known about us at first but once that was discovered was as efficient and friendly as our first one.
Fantastic selection of amaros.
The only drawback is the noise - it was so loud we almost had to yell at each other to talk, even on the (quieter) patio.

Really good food. Great, energetic atmosphere...albeit pretty loud. I really miss the Farcita pizza -- which is no longer on the menu. They need to put it back on!!!!

This is a good choice for brunch, where you can feel satisfied and relaxed, without being rushed. Excellent coffee!

This restaurant, like its sibling in Santa Monica (and cousin on Venice beach) has terrific food and an interesting, if limited, menu. The noise level, however, is almost painfully high.

Another Find in Venice!
This strip of Rose Ave continues to come to life. Hostaria is a great find for a casual night at a neighborhood place. The grilled octopus and the lightly breaded calamari appetizers were great. The pizza was very good (we had speck, truffle). The pasta was spot on. I also really liked the tiraminsane (tiramisu). Our service couldn't have been better. Be ready for the noise level. Industrial decor, loud music and the diners make this place deafeningly loud and tough of converse without snuggling close! I'll go back.
6/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazing food-couldn't hear a thing
We were supposed to be meet another couple for dinner here and they didn't make it. We had a blast: the food and drinks were creative and delicious, while still feeling very authentic. The service was knowledgeable and very attentive. My only concerns were that it was possibly the loudest restaurant I've ever been in. I'm generally not sensitive to noise, but my wife and I spent most of the evening taking turns yelling, reading lips, and trying to communicate with our eyes. Not sure they can do much here, but it would have been hard to have another couple there. I'm sure the patio would have been much better for this.
All in - a great place and worth trying; but, not for a quiet, romantic evening.
6/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
The pizzas and appetizers
The pizzas and appetizers were delicious, as were the desserts...the entrees were only "OK"
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were looking for a nice casual dinner and were a little concerned when ushered to a tiny table near a very noisy bar with loud music for a Tuesday night. But once seated in a quieter section, we found the menu to be very promising, our server very knowledgable and helpful and the food excellent. The flavors were fresh and the combination of ingredients innovative. We enjoyed all of our dishes, but there are too many more we want to try. We will definitely go back.

Great birthday dinner here!
Thanks to Hostaria's staff, and especially our server, Stefano, who is always so warm and hospitable. We had a group of 12 here for my birthday dinner and we had gorgeous appies and entrées and very friendly service--without being rushed--and a lovely dinner overall. Would absolutely recommend this spot for a date or group outings!
7/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful food at reasonable price and portion. The octopus with vegetables was divine. The service was a bit slow and awkward. it was lunch, so maybe they were training. For dessert, I asked if I could have the poached pears with vanilla sorbet rather than the chocolate creme brulee, as I wanted to taste the pears but was watching my calories. The waiter asked the chef, who declined. Ok, I can accept that the chef wants to serve what he/she prepared. So I had it as he invisioned it. It seemed more like a mound chocolate mousse with a tiny bit of crusty sugar on top. The pears were yummy and subtle, but were overpowered by the rich fatty chocolate. It would have been better with vanilla!!

For the second time we met
For the second time we met with friends at Hostaria, and for the second time, it was a very pleasant culinary and social experience. Casual but elegant ambiance. We always like to have our little dog with us, and the patio is available for dog owners like ourselves, it works out perfectly, the tables are spaced well enough so that we are not on top of other guests with their dogs. We were made to feel welcome in every way, servers, bus boys and the owner (or maître d'). All the dishes we had were excellent, especially the Sea bass special.

The Piccolo Experience-Venice
Though the establishment a bit noisy the food is definitely spot on
The menu for Dine LA was limited, but the preparation and delivery to table made the night worth it
Patio dining much more enjoyable than indoors where the decibels climb not to mention the street scene passing you by
Farro salad with pesto was excellent and the chicken stuffed w/ seasoned ricotta in pan roasted gravy was excellent
Definitely worth the ride to Venice

I had a very nice dinner and lunch experience at Hostaria del Piccolo. The food was tasty, grate ink pasta and delicious octopus.
My guest and I had two very good meals there for a very reasonable price.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great authentic Italian food at such a great price! And the wine was to die for!
7/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The pasta dishes we ordered
The pasta dishes we ordered were great. I would go back for the Neri and the linguine with clams. The hotdog and French fries pizza was okay. But the french fries were great as it almost tasted like the fries we were eating in France (very crispy...double fried perhaps). The staff was attentive and helpful. We dined at 5:30 which was early enough that we were able to take our time.

Little piece of Italy
Yummy authentic food that reminds me of the osterias visited in Italy.

delicious food but...
Almost every dish was very delicious (pastas, pizza). Salad was a little uninspired. Portions were small and a bit pricy.

I've been to this place a few times and they never disappoint. This is a great spot for a casual dinner and is also great for groups. They have a great Barbera D' Asti that is reasonably priced, one of my favorite reds. Love the grilled calamari and their pizzas and fresh pastas.

I went for brunch. It was very tasty, including the best French toast I've ever had, but without the 1/2 price coupon I used, it would have been a very pricey $50 brunch. Nonetheless, it's a nice place to go and all of the servers were wonderful.

Great Happy Hour!
They have a great happy hour that goes until 9pm! Great prices and great food!

This is a spectacular secret tucked in Venice. The ambience is nice, but what you come for is the spectacular food and warm service. We enjoyed the varied menu, especially liked the option of a prix fixe lunch. The salad with pine nuts and a parmesan twist was a generous portion that complimented our squid ink pasta. What a large selection of options and all of it delicious. We would have prepared fresh brewed iced tea, but they had a rather nice selection of Republic of Tea bottles. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, they were always checking in with us to see if we needed anything and were enjoying our meal. A perfectly prepared and served espresso topped off our meal. We will return!

Bad Beginning to a Wonderful End!
The beginning started on bad note due to the restaurant was overwhelmed with diners but really no food servers as there must have been a breakdown in scheduling the proper amount of help. We waited and waited and even moved to the Bar hoping we would be waited on! At last we were greeted as I complained about the long wait.
Roberto (manager, partner?) came by and apologized; we ordered and were at last served. The food was wonderful especially the Octopus and the Pasta.
After finishing our meal Roberto came over and told us the Octopus and the two glasses of wine were on the house.
This made the beginning of our adventure forgotten as Roberto & the food made up for the long wait we had to endure. We will be back!

Excellent fining experience
We celebrated my friends birthday and it turned out to be a nice lunch due yo excellent food, especially the pappardelle and frittura. Wit staff was very friendly ( Paolo) and accommodating. We will definitely go back again.

As usual great late lunch.
As usual great late lunch. Love sitting outdoors and service was really fast. Got in and out in one hour fifteen minutes. Fantastic interesting appetizers. Amazing octopus over roasted vegtebles, pork belly entree, gnocci all was yum. Try the dessert wines.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We enjoyed a lovely evening on the patio. Service was great, food was delicious. My friend and I had the Sunday pasta special: cacio de pepe. We both practically licked our dishes clean. My husband had pizza that, even with a few "weird" ingredients (for him, anyway), he enjoyed. Cocktails (a Prosecco aperitif and an orange margarita-type cocktail) were refreshing and inventive without being overwhelmed with too many competing ingredients (which seems to be the "mixology" norm these days). The Verde salad was a little sleepy (could have used more than 5 pine nuts or more than 2 slices of avocado, in my opinion) but a good complement to the rest of the dinner.

Definitely not a spot for romance
Based on rave reviews for the menu, I booked us there for my boyfriend's birthday. We enjoyed our food thoroughly, and the service was mostly good, but it has definitely become the neighborhood spot for young kids. The atmosphere is more like a high end CPK than a pricy bistro.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Always delicious, great lunch deal
We usually go to the one at 6th and Broadway, but this new one is in our neighborhood, so we walked over. Unlike the original, this one has a $15 two-course lunch menu, a very good deal. We had steamed baby octopus on polenta and a beautiful salad for first courses, and the papardelle with duck ragu and an eggplant pizza as second courses. Everything was wonderful. The waiters are fresh from Italy and charming. This will be my new neighborhood walk-to dinner or lunch place!
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Enjoyed their daily special for $15. Excellent two choices that included pizza or pasta and a first course of three choices. A bit noisy inside so we sat on the patio which had a different kind of street noise but was ok.

A Happening in Venice
Super crowded and noisy but we got seated fairly quickly. Excellent food and good service despite the fact that they were slammed. fun, xlnt food - worth the visit.

Great food, buzzy atmosphere. However, was glad to be sitting on th epatio as it was extremely loud inside. Good for groups - hence the noise!

My favorite spot in Venice. The food never fails and the chef is conscious of vegan, vegetarians and gluten free eaters. Not to mention using sustainable proteins.

Great for all eating types.
Has everything for all types of eaters. Gluten free, meat, fish, veggie. Highly recommend !!!

A cut above
Versus a (?) sister restaurant about 1 mile north, this branch of the Piccolo franchise executes with style and precision. Don't think twice.
