Stellar. The best thing was that you can get a half a bottle of any wine that is under $100/ bottle for half price. It meant we could try two wines with dinner, which was fun.
The food was all awesome. We'll be back.

Short but sweet review here, I loved it. Everything was delicious. We shared many small plates and each one was better than the next, starting with the picked eggs and ending with the rhubarb buckle.
Go! You won't be disappointed!

Inventive, tasty cuisine, beautifully curated winelist, hot well designed room and all around excellence, makes St Vincent our top choice in SF.

The food, ambiance, and service are fantastic here. Started with the hand-rolled pretzel, and followed with the small dishes: curly endive, gnocchi, and pulled pork on housemade potato chips. Sand dabs for the entree. Dessert was the malted milk ice cream with burnt honeycomb (delish) and the peach/blackberry cobbler with elderflower ice cream. For three of us with 4 taster beers, tab was only a bit over $100. Such a deal. The waitress and staff were extremely friendly.

Creative well prepared seasonal
Creative well prepared seasonal food choices. Servers are well versed in describing items on the menu but even more impressively, were as knowledgeable about the extensive wine options as sommeliers in upscale restaurants. It would be a mistake to bring your own wine to this restaurant as you would be missing out on trying fabulous wines not readily available on the open market. Fine wines can be found at a wide range of prices and if something hits your fancy, it is available for purchase at retail prices.

Good Food, Great Wine
Food and service was very good but not outstanding. Not too pricey. Wine can be had by the glass or half bottle. We shared the bread salad, the sirloin and the spring succotash, all very good. Not going to rush to return but glad we tried it.
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great farm to table spot. Server knew the food, and more impressively the wines, stone cold from top to bottom. Well prepared seasonal ingredients with a twist, mostly spot on, but one entree was a bit over the top. Definately would go back again.

My second visit to St. Vincent. Both times I've been delighted by the waitstaff's knowledge, their wine recommendations. Lovely meal.

Great all the way across the board
Had an early dinner here a couple nights ago and I'll definitely be back. Great food options, fantastic wine list that you can order the half of any bottle under $100 which gives you limitless options during the meal, and the staff, Katie in particular, was fabulous.

Off the beaten path
Our trip to St. Vincent's was superb. While you will not "happen by" the restaurant if you are just visiting San Francisco, it will be well worth taking the time to find them. I had the Ham Chop and being from the South, wasn't sure what to expect when it came to a west coast experience with collards and corn bread. It was just like being back home only paired with a great wine! Great food, knowledgable servers and a wonderful atmosphere.

We had read about St. Vincent in Food and Wine and decided to try it. Interesting and appealing wine list - lots of Italian wines, which we love, but many other choices as well.. A small but delicious and fresh menu and a very cool place. We highly recommend it, and we're very picky diners.

Forgive the spartan digs
Even though the location can do with some polish, the fare is extraordinary. Anyone who can chop a soft boiled egg over butter-poached shrimp toast earns a stamp in my book. And how about a blanched broccoli caesar with shaved radishes? Excellent service matches the impeccable menu.

Great Spot with Neat Wine Policy
Saw a write up in Wine Spectator about this place and decided to add it to the short list of restaurants to hit on our last trip to SFO. Warning - it's a bright spot in the middle of a "eclectic" neighborhood. A quick BART ride from the Financial District, and then the restaurant is only a block from the BART station. Short menu, but neat little dishes, and someone has clearly put thought into them. Food is superb and is probably best meant to be shared. BUT THE BEST PART about this place is the wine program. It's a great list and the best part is any bottle under $100 on the list is available for 50% for half the bottle. We will certainly return to this spot.

Casual Experience Elevated
Had a great evening at St. Vincent. The atmosphere is casual but the service is a step above and the care they take towards food, wine and their customers shows at every step. Very friendly whether you're at the bar or sitting at a table. Definitely recommend.

First birthday party
We took our granddaughter and her parents here for a first birthday celebration. We adults were extremely happy with the excellent wine list and delicious, creative food. The staff was very friendly and efficient. A high chair is available for the baby...they even made a tiny cheese plate for the birthday girl! It was also helpful for everyone that they stored our stroller away from the main dining area and brought it back to us when we were finished. I would come back here anytime, with or without the baby.

Delicious and Sassy
Really thoughtful and delicious food. The figs were great, we split the eggplant entre as an appetizer and I had the "ham" (pork) chop. All delicious but don't miss the honey and milk dessert. It's a wine lover's dream -- taste until you like, great wine choices and experienced staff that know what they are talking about. I loved our sassy waiter. I always have great service there so I keep coming back. This was our 5th time I think.

This is definitely a restaurant
This is definitely a restaurant to put on your list if you want delicious food (the small plates were wonderful) and very good wines.
Service is efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. We loved the she-crab soup (more like a risotto), the grilled peaches and goat cheese and the bone marrow. Don't miss the rabbit meatballs! Main dish halibut was excellent. Treat yourself and go!

Great food, exceptional service
We had a party of 6 on a Wednesday evening to celebrate a birthday. It was originally 5, but the restaurant easily accommodated the extra person no problem after checking the flow of other reservations and walk-ins.
The food was exceptional and the staff were quite knowledgable about all of the offerings including the portions that might be adequate for sharing amongst a group of 6. HIghlights included the grilled peaches (exceptional!), the rabbit meatballs and the bone marrow for the "small plates" and the ham chop and short ribs for the entrees.
The wine selection is the real star at this place, as is the staff's knowledge about pairing. The "bartender" too care of us while we waited and throughout the evening. GREAT SERVICE!

Great Gift Idea
We went to St. Vincent's using a restaurant gift card that we received. Wow, what a great gift idea. The restaurant was awesome! Great food and friendly service. We've been experimenting with a lot of restaurants in and around SF this summer, and we finally found one worth recommending.
Word of warning, they're busy. You'll need to plan ahead and make reservations.
7/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great restaurant,enjoyed it.
A nice neighborhood restaurant. Nice ambience, good food and a good wine list.. Only negative is that prices on the wine list are a little steep...

Best dinner in SF for a while!
My husband and I came for a date night on a Saturday night and had a fabulous time. Every dish was delicious. We eat out a lot and this was the best meal we have had in a long time (our last meal like that was at Heirloom Cafe). We got the lemon cucumbers, ham chop, corn risotto, one cheese dessert and the milk & honey dessert. Everything was top-notch. The crowd was fun, the service was great and SV offers many interesting wines.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
awesome food and drinks
Food was fresh, flavorful, and delicious! Large selection of beer and wine and great service!

David Lynch hits another high mark
David has many fans from the wine world and in my case, David was essential to my understanding of the gems Italian wine. David has applied his phenomenal palate to honest food not caught up in convention. No pretense, nothing precious or artificial about St. Vincent - Fun Friendly and Honest
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
I can't say enough about the friendly and professional service. The wine selections and half-bottle option will get me back in the door. My only knock is that for what we had, the final bill was surprisingly high, and we are used to high prices. Our apps were excellent but entrees were underwhelming. That said, we will go back for sure and try some of the other entrée options. The experience was still very good.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
It's all that
It took me a while to get over to St. Vincent. The last restaurant in the space was a hot mess. But it had just received a glowing review from Bauer, and the Burners were out of town, so I thought it would be a good window of opportunity to give it a try. We loved it. The food was sensational. Standouts were the pretzel, cold almond soup, tomato and uni salad. The chopped salad was a world unto itself. Service struck the right note between attentive and unobtrusive. I don't usually write reviews on OT, but this was a lovely experience and I would recommend this place to others.

One of the best restaurants in SF!
Love it here, we've never had a bad entree or meal. The chef creates amazing flavor combinations with interesting textures using super perfect, fresh, in-season ingredients. Unpretentious and amazingly delicious food - with excellent wine pairings. Walk-ins and reservations make it easy and convenient.

Good food and wine or beer
Hearty food well paired with fine wine and excellent beer. Bone marrow is on the menu. The salad with huaotoloche was wonderful.

Terrific Wine & Food
A terrific wine list, and their policy of opening any bottle to purchase a half bottle is great. The food is interesting and delicious.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Exciting food, great svc, wine/beer
Unusual, often expensive ingredients lurk in most every dish to make rich flavors and textures. Risotto with fresh corn AND blended huitlacocha; delicious chopped salad with broad beans, and aged cheddar not in chunks but invisibly mixed into the dressing; chocolate crème brûlée with a whiff of cinchona bark to punch a bit of bitter, served with a smoked Hefeweizen?!! Wow. Our server knew the menu as if she was the chef. A wine list of interest, although would have liked even more alternate whites and aromatic reds by the glass (OK I'm greedy that way).
Ambience hip, relaxed. Not cheap but a deal for this top quality. Leapt onto my list of favorites.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great small plates and wine.
Loved the rabbit meatballs, bone marrow with toast and vinegar pork were all awesome. Entrees were very mixed

Shared Dishes and Fun Atmosphere
Our party of three shared seven dishes. The grilled sardines were a standout as were the fried rice balls. Our server suggested a very reasonably priced bottle of wine to pair with our eclectic meals. The restaurant itself is set up for socializing among tables. Parties on both sides of us shared recommendations and comments making it a very fun night.

Relaxing and Simple yet perfect
I've taken new people to this restaurant many times, and they all say how relaxing it is. Even though it's almost always full, still plenty of room, the noise is moderate and the service is present but unobstrusive. Delicious choices of wine and beer, and the food is simple, delicious and if you eat combinatinos of small plates, completely satisfying. For the bigger appetites, order the entres (although the risotto was fantastic after sharing a few small plates). I love that this is walkable from my house.

Great experience - dinner for six
Dinner for six business colleagues and thoroughly enjoyable. Everybody has their favorite fried chicken - St. Vincent's has become mine.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
innovative and interesting
So much is good about this restaurant, including the excellent service. Fabulous to be able to buy a half bottle of wine (for anything on the wine list $100 and under, and there are great choices in this category). Lots of interesting small plates, including the pickled eggs and uni toast. Hip interior and excellent chicken. Highly recommend.

Your wallet will take a hit
St.Vincent has good small plates and a few large entrees; both are excellent. The sommelier recommends wine by the glass to go with each dish. Everything was very good. For two of us, with three small plates, one large one, and four glasses of wine, without desert and before adding on the tip, the bill came to more than $140. Very good meal---but was it that good?

Hot spot for after HSB
Interesting menu that overwhelm all our different choices! The service was excellent with wonderful wine pairings!

Dining at St. Vincent is a delightful experience all around, from the food to wine to atmosphere to service.
10/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
very cool, I had no idea
I'd not heard of this until my sister mentioned it, and I thought I was familiar with that stretch of Valencia.
Really great advice on interesting glasses of wine. Had 3 glasses (white from the french swiss border, pinot from Marin, mourvedre) and each one was somewhat unusual and delicious. I returned a week later to buy 2 bottles of the pinot.
The food was outstanding -- the ham chop was unexpected, unusual, and delicous. The chicken had amazing spices flowing under the crisp skin. The Sweetbread breakfast muffin was crazy-indulgent.
Go. Go now.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
The service was great. The owner was gracious and very much a contributor to a memorable meal. He did the wine selection, helped with the food picks, and seems to us on his way to building a restaurant. Strikes me as a perfect choice for a couple coming into San Francisco and looking for a special place to eat that makes you feel that you are eating in your neighborhood place.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wow. Unbelievable food!!!!
we made reservation ahead which i definitely recommend. We were a party of 6 and all of us were blown away with the food. We allowed the selections of wine to be chosen for us/bottle of red and bottle of white/. Both choices were fabulous and we are all wine lovers so we can be picky:) All over, great great experience!

Not your average tavern
We came upon this find through the Wine Spectator article and it more than delivered. While there weren't a lot of people, the bartender assured us the neighborhood regulars do come later and polish off the many open bottles of fabulous wines left on the counter. The restaurant's open kitchen not only lets you see how they prepare their "foodie pub grub", they also let you open any bottle under $100 and drink/pay for only half (so sure they'll sell the other half by the glass or carafe by the end of the night). It was ingenious and allowed us to try 3 different wines from an extensive bottle list!
Great, knowledgeable bar staff and truly the best "tavern", comfort food around. We were so stuffed we couldn't eat dessert!
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
loved the half bottles
Great little place where you can have any bottle on their extensive wine list that's under $100, as a half bottle and pay half price! Means you can try a lot more wines!! Lovely service, cosy little place, food was very tasty.

Loved St. Vincent
We had dinner with friends at St. Vincent on Saturday. The service was excellent, the atmosphere and environment awesome, the food delicious, and the wine list amazing. I can't wait to go again!

For wine lovers
This restaurant is known for it's varied and reasonably priced wines. We tried a few different varietals. We ate flatbread, fried chicken and grits. The food was not as impressive as on our last visit. The service and wine list will keep us coming back.

Romance with authentic service
Thank you so much for a lovely evening.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and asked to sit next to each other, which meant they had to give us a four person table - no problem!
We asked advice on the menu and got good reliable comments, that made it easy to pick.
We were able to just have a half a bottle of any wine under $100 (it was a Tuesday)
They served us lost of little plates of amazing deliciousness and never we felt we had to hurry up and finish!
Fantastic place for dinner or a night out. I was also here with a friend and we had the best time eating and drinking in the bar.
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a mix of small plates and one entree:
picked eggs - curry and horseradish/beet - both delicious and tangy
fried chicken - excellent with unique flavors on the side. the pickles were yummy.
mussels in broth - just fine
grits - sweet and tasty
bone marrow - so good! with a nice relish on the side
pork plate - went very well with the Patel wine we brought
Only drawback - they just have a beer and wine menu so no cocktails. But they compensate with vermouth and a wonderful wine list.

St. Vincent would approve
I missed a gathering @ St. Vincent's & given my friends' rave reviews, I had to check it out. I wasn't disappointed by the great variety of wines & the hearty food. The pork with slaw & chips was terrific, as were the pretzels. I look forward to going back & exploring with more friends so I can further plumb the depths of the wine list & try some more appetizers & entrees. St. Vincent is appropriately named for the patron saint of vintners, but the food is right up there too!
