great service and good food
great service and good food for pre-theater dinner and would return for a more leisurely dining experience. Wait staff was outstanding, attractive and attentive to time constraints. Looks as though it's a very popular spot and well deserved.

Sharing is Caring
The two times I have dined here, I have not been disappointed. The menu is always full of interesting options & is constantly changing. The chef is very innovative with different textures and tastes of each dish created. I recommend getting a few different dishes for the table and tasting everything.

The food was fantastic and prices were reasonable as well. I was there to meet some old friends and the staff didn't try to rush us which was great. We had reservations for 11:30am on a Saturday and there were not lots of people there--which was fine with us. Made for a really relaxing brunch.

Great brunch spot
Really enjoyed our brunch! Homey, comfort food with a elevated perspective. The Bacon Buns are wrong but so right! Really enjoyed the Crepadilla and the Hawkeye sandwich. The bottle service Mimosa is great idea and a great value. Very friendly staff and good service. Give it a try.

What a great find in our neighborhood! The host and wait staff could not have been more gracious. This was a special birthday dinner for my husband and our first dinner out in a few months. Our host that seated us knew of my original comments on the OpenTable reservation and sat us at terrific booth in a great location. Our waitress, Chandra provided us with her menu recommendations and they were spot-on. The appetizers, salad, entrees & desserts were all unique & nicely displayed, and quite delicious. The Lyonnaise salad was really fabulous! Great wine selection by our bartender. The entire evening was fantastic thanks to the thoughtful, friendly staff & wonderful chef. A lovely dessert on the house was so appreciated. Will return!!

LOVE THIS PLACE
Frog and Snail is a neighborhood gem. Great decor. Fabulous food.. and a mixologist with real skills! We used to come for the food--until we met John. He has become our favorite reason to visit Frog and Snail. He's fun, sparkly, and mixes a great cocktail. He will surprise you with one of his favorite concoctions that tastes amazing--he is also very knowledgeable when it comes to wine, and life.
Stop in for a drink, solve the world's problems, get over a bad romance--he does it all! Highly recommend. As for the food--super fresh, nuanced flavors and wonderful. , if you are a mussels fan--don't miss this place. Frog and Snail's mussels are some of the BEST in the city.

All I'd hoped-
Stopped by for brunch with an old friend on our way to Market Days and had a lovely time. The food was great, just what I'd hoped for; bacon buns, rabbit hash, shrimp and grits- all delicious. Our waitress was wonderful, attentive without being obtrusive, happy and smiling on what for me would have been a terrible day to work, ( I just hate working Sundays ). It's a beautiful space, if a bit cool, but probably warms up quite a bit when the room is full. Will be back for sure, and if I lived in the neighborhood, would make it a regular stop.

Prices were very reasonable for French Fusion. My husband and I enjoyed the steak and salmon. The blueberry pie was delectable!

A lovely Surprise
We were very excited about the menu and everything we ordered. We eat out everyday for lunch and only rarely go out at night. I guess we went on a Sunday evening and we will go back again.

Creative menu, but limited
The flavor combinations are exotic and everything we have had to date has been delicious! If you have food sensativities or preferences they will try to accommodate.

Outstanding at Everything!
I enjoyed every minute of my time at Frog n Snail. The service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was chic, and the food was amazing! If it wasn't rude to do so, I probably would've licked my plate clean...literally. If you're a foodie, then you need to check out Frog n Snail.

Sooo many good choices
Every item on the menu sounded great. Our party had a hard time commiting to a dish. As soon as we picked one we saw something else that might be better. We could have easily ordered every dish on the menu but we showed some restraint especially since there were only four in our party.
Each dish was perfectly delicious. We look forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu. The staff is very friendly too making the service a wonderful part of our experience. Thank you for a great time!

Very Nice dinner
Had a great dinner here. We shared almost all of the appetizers and had a salad and a few dessert. It was all fantastic. Really enjoyed the Truffle Dumplings and the Mussels. Of course the Frog's legs and Snail were great as well.

I've been there several times and I am always very satisfied with the food, the service, the ambience! Love it either for all you can eat mussels or any other day, it's always a pleasure.

Was looking to book at Sprout Restaurant for a group of 6, but it was unavailable. I noticed Frog and Snail on the website as another 'Dale' option and decided to give it a try. Thoroughly enjoyable! Would definitely recommend. Food was amazing.

Great Lakeview Addition
While the menu is somewhat small, the dishes are excellent: fresh ingredients, creative and beautifully plated. Great alternative to many of the noisy places in Lakeview.

Perfect Dinner on a Rainy Night
Stopped in for dinner right before a concert at the Vic, and it hit the spot! Delicious Duck on a windy, rainy night, and the half price wine bottle was an extra treat :-) I always have a great time here!

Our second time at F&S. We shared the frog's legs app - a smallish portion for $9. Nicely cooked but the breading needed seasoning. One of our mains was the "Kitchen Sink" cassoulet; very tasty though could use more duck and less chicken. Other main was the trout; one of the best trout dishes I've ever had. Portion size for the mains was ample. Service was attentive and helpful. We were there rather early (5:00) so the place was quiet. Prices are fair. All in all, nice place, particularly if you're going to be in the area.

The Spring Veggie Tart was amazing. The manager came over and said hi, she was very friendly.

Delicious (but, easy on the salt)
Dined with a group of friends on a Saturday night. The service was friendly, fast and every plate was scrapped clean. Highly recommend the Truffle Dumplings, Mussels, Steak Frites, and Beef Stroganoff. The Scottish Salmon and Duck Pierogi (yes, Duck, not Rabbit per the online menu) were also tasty in terms of individual components, but the sauce bringing the elements together on each of those dishes was incredibly salty. The Chocolate Pretzels dessert is very rich, but worked when shared with a group. Will definitely come back to try other items!

Def check this place out! Love Chef Dale Levitski...wish he was there when I went! Tried the homemade ricotta and it was ok. I think it was too hyped up for me. My friend had the roasted beet salad...I thought it was pretty typical but he loved it. Main course: the duck pierogies were freaking delish. My only complaint is that they only give you 3! Def not enough! Also tried the kitchen sink cassoulet...tasty stuff! We ended our meal with 3 desserts: the maple all spice affogato--yum; creme brulee--yum; chocolate covered pretzels--eh. A little dry. Interesting concept, but just didn't do it for me. I would def come back! Once more for dinner and another for brunch!

Unusual food - uneven service
The food had many unusual ingredients and yet it all seemed to work and hang together. Even the ersatz cassoulet had a great flavor. The burger was tender and juicy and the salmon was fresh and delicious. The duck peroghi needed more duck as the little that was there, was barely discernible. However, the flavors were light and complex.
Our waitress was friendly, smiley and informative, and gave us plenty of time to talk.
The only complaint would be the back servers who brought the food and cleared the table. They paid no attention to what was happening at the table and were at best indifferent to our dining experience.

This was a great find on open table. I wanted to go outside of my usual neighborhood and went on open table to see what restaurants had a 7:00 pm reservation open. The restaurants reviews were very positive so I decided this was easy to get to off the red line and made the reservation. Although it wasn't so busy we needed the reservation. (can't believe it wasn't more crowded on a Saturday night) The food was outstanding and worth returning for, My husband couldn't say it enough that he thought the chicken dish was the best he ever had. My mushroom crepe was out of this world. If you get a chance check out the menu as I don't think you will be disappointed.

Food was delicious and our waitress was engaging and prompt. We had the steak strogonoff and burger, both of which I would recommend.

Bland but interesting
I ordered the cassoulet, which was chock full of beans, beans, beans, some duck sausage (3 very small pieces), torn chicken (mostly dark meat) and bacon (about 6 little cubes). I could only eat about 1/3 of it because after I pulled out the small amount of meat, there wasn't much left except the beans. The dish was kind of bland, too. The only time I got some real flavor was when I had a bit with bacon or the sausage on the fork. It needed salt (and I don't usually salt my food at the table!) or something to bump up the flavors.
The beef stroganoff was better, according to the hubby. Beef was tender, noodles al dente. Frog legs and dumpling appetizers were also very good, I scraped off the breading as it wasn't needed.

Great food and service
I had the salmon and it was fabulous! My dining partner had the pork chop, but felt that the menu did not describe her dish. She like it very much, just wanted a better description of the item before seeing it on her plate. We shared a bottle of red wine.

Just a great looking restaurant in a hip neighborhood. Great food, but try the burger.

Good food and service, TOO loud
Food was good, easily accommodating gluten, dairy and shellfish allergies. Service was prompt without being overbearing. Music was way too loud, and it was 1970's hard rock -- think AC/DC. Impossible for these 49-52 year olds to have pleasant dinner conversation.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
An evening at Frog N Snail is always a treat. This is a restaurant where you need to order more than one item just for the joy of tasting the distinct flavors that they offer. It is a favorite of entire family.

A real treasure
Very pleased with this unique eatery. Yes, there are frog legs on the menu - with a spicy, green chile infused "frog sauce" - but that's only the tip of the iceberg. The Scottish salmon was perfectly prepared, with a leek, white bean and brussel sprout bed that sang with flavors. The beef stroganoff was prepared with braised boneless short ribs in a savory madiera sauce with homemade noodles. Luscious! The granny smith apple dessert was unbelievable, while the lemon cake parfait was okay, not great. A modern casual ambience and gengerally attentive wait staff topped off an excellent meal. We'll be sure to return.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The tuna crostini was burnt - but instead of making a new dish for me, they brought me more bread. I guess I was supposed to deconstruct the dish and transfer it to non-burnt bread. Don't think I'll go back.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Butternut squash creme brulee
I ate here with a friend, and tried the frog legs with fried green tomatoes. Nice crispy coating, but still taste like chicken. My frien's chicken was a little salty, but my beef stroganoff was great. The butternut squash creme brule was awesome. You would never know you were eating squash. Nice wine selection and good cocktail list. The restuarant was pretty empty which is sad, as this place is a gem.

Interesting spot on North Broadway
We went here after attending a play at a local theater. Food was good, interesting menu and well presented. Service was good although the person that seated us was a bit snippy (He was a waiter not the hostess who was seating another party).
Reasonable prices and nice portions. I good dining option for this area.

Good but pricey
I've been wanting to try the Frog and Snail for some time but have been put off by reviews of folks noteing half the menu wasn't available. When I arrived I was prepared to be disappointed, the only thing they didn't have was the chocolate covered pretzels on the dessert menu, so on my night the menu was a go however we didn't have dessert because of the pretzels not being available. I chose the pumpkin soup and the dumplings. The dumplings where amazing but the soup was just so so. For the price I would have expected more. I wanted to ask for salt and pepper, but didn't find staff to ask while eating it. The menu is small and pricey, around $18 a dish.
