We were seated promptly for our Friday post-work, 5:30 reservation. Great chicken pot pie with very good side salad with beets and pickled vegetables. Energetic but not overly noisy scene. A couple glasses of wine at happy hour prices and we were out in plenty of time for a 7:30 show. Will return to try the Sunday brunch.

I went with a party of six people, none of whom had been to the restaurant before. We arrived early and our table was ready. Great whiskey and beer selections. interesting eclectic menu. Our waiter,Lenny, was outstanding. Very knowledgable about the menu and attentive without being obtrusive. Have already recommended the place to several people and will definitely be back soon.

Brunch was very good! Portions
Brunch was very good! Portions were small. Waiter could have been more attentive. I would return to try other dishes. Had poached eggs with goat cheese and salad. The upside down cake was delicious. Will use the Red Owl Tavern as a go to place for impromptu to meal or to catch a drink.

My friends took me here for
My friends took me here for my birthday dinner and we had a fantastic feast. Our server was fantastic; extremely attentive and nice. We ordered the coconut curry mussels and they were mouth watering. The bone morrow and lambs tongue was delicious and just melted in your mouth. Everyone should order the truffle fries to snack on; they were a salty crispy burst of flavor treat. I ordered the blade steak with polenta fries and was not disappointed. My steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and it was so tender and juicy. The polenta fries complimented the dish with its salty crispiness. The texture of the polenta was right on and not dried out. The meal was a great way to celebrate my birthday. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes.

My 4th time here! I love everything about this establishment. We had a table by the window, watched the bustle of the city, at the same time eating GREAT food and having great conversation. It was a perfect evening! ps: Butter Blade Steak is TERRIFIC!!!!

Went there in Jan and then
Went there in Jan and then went back on April 6th. Got THE SAME EXACT brunch entree (the healthy bennie) and it was completly different. The food wasnt bad, it just seemed inconsistant. Our server was excellent though. We ordered the bottomless bellinis and he just left the whole bottle of champagne there.

Food was very good. Lots of choices for non-seafood eaters. Decor is kind of industrial chic and was very nice. Kitchen and bar were very slow.

Great food & service - bit cramped
We really enjoyed finding a new place for brunch in Old City. The food was excellent and the service very attentive and helpful. My frittata was outstanding, as was my companion's vegetable bennie. Our only concern was that it was somewhat cramped, both in how close our table was to the bar and how small it was. Once our two entrees arrived, we had to get rid of the container holding sugar packets as the plates and glasses could barely fit on the table. We would definitely come back here, though.

Fun place - great bar
I've been here a few times for brunch and dinner. Both were great meals and what I expected from a tavern plus some.
Their unique mixed drink left me wanting more. Great bartenders.
Love that they use real maple syrup! Brunch was great.
Both visits were with friends and the place lends itself to catching up with friends.

This charming restaurant is right across the street from Independence Hall, with tables set up outside on the sidewalk. There is a popular bar on the inside with outgoing bartenders and a big screen TV for sports. Service is just outstanding, an overall enjoyable experience. Great food as well.

Savory and Spicy
My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco and the Red Owl is their restaurant. Dinner menu contains many different types of food which can accomodate various-palates. The food is spicy for me but my husband enjoyed the kick in the food. The problem with our meal was not the food but the waiter. He had a definitive attitude that can only be described as I DO NOT WANT TO BE HERE!. He lacked the normal courtesy of helpulness. We had breakfast the next morning in the Red Owl.The food and waitress were fun, friendly, enjoyable and tasty which proves the Red Owl is a great food experience.

Food, very good; service, meh
Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. Service was fine until we were finished eating and seemingly abandoned by our waitress. I had to find a manager and ask for our check. The manager, who was not far from where we were seated seemed surprised that we'd not been given our check.

We were totally and wonderfully surprised At how great this place was. Close to all the sights and really really good food. It is very lively and loud and lots of fun. We will return!

The location is great-right
The location is great-right in the middle of the history. The bar area was jumping. We were on the second level which is quieter than the first level. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We both had the frisee salad which was very good and the slow roasted chicken. It was moist, well seasoned and extremely tasty. I don't usually eat the skin, but I did this time and it was worth it. The dessert was an individual cherry pie which was just wonderful. The crust was flaky and it had just the right tart taste.

We made a reservation for a party of 9 on a busy holiday. When we arrived, the table was ready AND they were able to accommodate the fact that our party had grown to 11 people. The brunch menu is an excellent value and the service was great. A couple of especially loved the bottomless bellini! Will definitely go there again.
7/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
We went to the Red Owl because it was connected to Club Monaco. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was excellent. The grilled dishes were fantastic especially the pork tenderloin. Excellent selection of draft beers and wines.

Excellent food, table (sitting four) seemed a bit small; noise level too high, perhaps because of harsh surfaces.

Once in awhile you come across a place that looks interesting and might be good but you are just not sure.
Well, have no fear because this place was just great for an interesting mix of appetizers and entrees.
I will return and save room for dessert.

Red owl tavern is the best. Great food and great service! The food is the the best I have had in a long time. The waiter was great. He recommended a few entrees and we ordered them, and loved them! The food was brought out in a timely manner. We were seated upstairs for a more romantic setting where the lower level is noisier for it is where the bar. The prices are very reasonable as well. We stayed at Hotel Monaco which is connected to the tavern so the access is wonderful. We loved the food so much, that we even ate breakfast there. The breakfast was also to die for. We definitely can not wait to go back!

Awesome PA Treat
Food, service, ambiance, this restaurant was the trifecta! The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and efficient. We started out with the garlic muscles. They were awesome!! The steaks were excellent and the fries were out of this world. Really enjoyed the experience and would dine there again!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food, great service.
Went here for our first night in Philadelphia as it was in our hotel. We shared the hummus appetizer and I had the short rib and my husband had the lobster pot pie. All were excellent although the sole accompaniment for my short rib was quite a small amount of truffled sweet potato purée. Service was excellent. One item for improvement, all chairs had metal, unpadded seats which were not particularly comfortable.

A hoot and a half
The food was excellent. The brie, lettuce, tomato, and bacon sandwich tasted heavenly and the seasoning on the french fries was addictive! Great food, attentive, friendly staff, and conveniently located to the touristy sites. Great location for people watching, too!
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
It never hurts to return to a place and see if its consistent.
This time seated upstairs and a little less noisy, the menu has something for everyone.
We were also offered a special tour of the wine vault and its underground location.
A fun time with a satisfying meal.

Best brunch I've had in the city. Great BYOBB(build your own bottomless belinni's)!!!

Fab veggie/gnocchi fall casserole
The fall veg casserole was unbelievably good! The veggies were roasted to perfection - the gnocchi were light, sautéed with just the right amount of brown 'crunch'. I wish I could reproduce this at home! No meat - but the flavors were so well orchestrated, it tasted like a rich meat dish. I would order this dish over and over.....

Fun and friendly atmosphere
The Red Owl Tavern is in a great Philadelphia location - within the most historic square mile in the US! The food is excellent and waitstaff very accommodating and friendly.

Awesome food. Different twists to the basics plus completely different meals that were great. Service was just as great. Best place in the city that I've had brunch. Interesting place to eat. Energetic but not over the top.

Bottomless Bellinis and reasonable
Two friends and I tried The Reed Owl Tavern because of the bottomless bellini option (we are big drinkers). For 16.00 per person, you get a glass, a bottle of champagne and can add your own fruit puree as you wish. This was ideal as we would have likely ordered at least 3 drinks throughout brunch and between 5-8 dollars on average, we got more and paid less! I had the Red Owl PLT sandwich which was very good; pancetta, brie, lettuce and tomato. I did not order the fries but I tried one of my friends and they were very good; similar to Chickie's crab fries but with a BBQ flavor.
The individual drink prices were par for the city but I felt that meals were rather inexpensive but very tasty! We will go back.

We had a wonderful dinner with great service! I would definitely recommend it!

HISTORY and BRUNCH
We were all very pleasantly surprised by every aspect of the RED OWL. Location in Old City right in midst of all historic sites. Roomy with pleasant bar/room on 1st floor and several tables on the quieter and smaller upstairs section.
Service was excellent. Prompt, friendly, knowledgable.
Food selection was wide and quality uniformly outstanding especially the highly recommended cinnamon French Toast. The blueberry pancakes were very tasty as was the poached egg selection.
The refillable Bellini (16/person) - choice of 4 juices (mango and berry were the 2 we preferred) was refreshing and a very good value.
We finished with an apple pie for the 4 of us- big enough to satisfy all.
Overall- very highly recommended.

Met with an old friend visiting
Met with an old friend visiting Philadelphia from out of town. We had brunch on Sunday morning. It was a nice comfortable place to have a conversation and catch up. The staff did not make us feel like we had to rush to get out of there so we were able to have a nice relaxed chat.
