Wonderful restaurant. Brief
Wonderful restaurant. Brief but excellent menu which changes daily. Reasonable yet very good wine list. Lovely space very conducive to quiet conversations. Another great find in Highland Park. We'll be back soon - and often.

Ba means amazing seasonal fare
Best restaurant on the Northeast LA! Friendly service and Fresh, seasonal menu and delictately flavored and tasty french/california preparations. Spare menu and wine list -- all affordable and enjoyable. Desserts are lovely but wish there were a few more options. 20 tables so reservations are helpful. We've tried it four times in two months and the chef has delighted us each time.

Our second trip was as enjoyable
Our second trip was as enjoyable as the first just a coule of weeks ago. Small restaurant with an appropriately focused menu that changes often.. Our excellent waiter is always a master of the menu items and the wine to pair with it.

The mousse pate was outstanding! The wine was great! The coq au vin was a little dry.The hostess was very good, as were the waitresses.

My friend and I had a Blackboard Eats deal and that was reason enough to stop by. It's nice to see a more upscale restaurant in this neighborhood. We shared the mushroom brulee, which was very rich and flavorful. My friend ordered the moules frites and I ordered the local vegetable platter that had fresh asparagus, spinach, and wild rice. The service was very attentive and the food was very savory and satisfying!

Locally grown refined cuisine
We went for brunch, but will definitely return for dinner. Exquisite, flaky crust on my quiche with local heirloom tomatoes, fantastic French wine list, beautiful decor, and the NYTimes to boot. I could make this a weekly ritual.

Tucked away on York Street in Highland Park, Ba is a great French bistro. Small, quiet with excellent food and attentive service. Menu and wine list are selective and excellent. We are new to LA and it is our go to place for a quiet, fun diner together.

Loved it. Although they were very accommodating of my two daughters (6 years and 18 months), it was not a place for a squirmy toddler. I look forward to going back for a date night with my husband .

What a find
This was our first time at Ba. We can be tough on restaurants but there was no reason to be on this visit. First class all the way. We'll be back soon!

Lovely Food and French Wines
Appetizers: we had Mushroom Brulee, salmon croquettes, spinach soup and duck liver mousse. The Brulee, surprised with its creamy, inscrutable depths, but the croquettes were tasty, too.
Two of our party had the lamb sirloin and we gobbled every bite, including all the sauce, wiping down our plates with the tender and tasty French bread. The other members ordered Steak au Poivre and Moule Frite, which was mussels in a "bowl" of delicious pommes frites. As we were not familiar with French wines, our server helped us to select one suited to the food as well as our tastes and we chose a bottle of Chinon (red with earthy notes). We were never rushed.
Although the sound was energetic, we could actually hear each other talk.
We will return!

An extremely satisfied repeat diner
My boyfriend and I have had the pleasure of dining at Ba many times, often with equally pleased friends, for both dinner and brunch, and have never been disappointed. The chef and staff are earnest and welcoming without being overpowering. The space is on the small side, but that only gives a fine dining experience a neighborhood feel. The design is a great play between subtle color and found objects composed nicely on the walls. The menu has some excellent go-to dishes (mushroom brûlée, cheese/charcuterie plate, creme brûlée) then rotates main dishes depending on the season / week. If the duck cassoulet is on the menu, get it. Also strong are the fried chicken, the lamb sirloin, and they make a delicious flaky white fish.

This neighborhood gem has a wonderful brunch menu. Everything on the menu is made with care as well as
with the freshest ingredients.

My two friends and I had a
My two friends and I had a wonderful, well-proportioned meal on a Friday night recently at BA. We started with 2 appetizers - scallops and 3 types of mushrooms with burned brie - both were very delicious. I had a steak with fries as my entree and it was perfectly cooked. We shared two desserts - wedding cake and creme brulee - wow and wow! Chef James Graham welcomed us at our table and shared a story about the herbs and fresh ingredients. The entire evening was a perfect dining experience. I strongly recommend going to BA for lunch, dinner or brunch!

We've found a new favorite
This small, beautifully appointed room gives an air of quiet luxury in this changing neighborhood. We shared the ahi tartare starter, but it was a mistake, because we both couldn't believe how freshly delicious it was and could have easily had one apiece. The presentation was beautiful and the tuna was super fresh and in larger bite-size pieces, rather than the mushy chopped texture many ahi tartares seem to have. The deeply fragrant broth of the Moroccan lamb stew was out of this world with spice, tender lamb and perfectly cooked couscous. A classic filet Bernaise had super fresh tarragon and flavorful and tender baby squash and fingerling potatoes. A wonderful Bordeaux paired perfectly with our meal, while being reasonably priced.

French - Highland Park Style
Very cute Restraunt. The chef, who I understand owns the place can be see in the kitchen making the somewhat classic French dishes. Delicious!

French cuisine in a pleasant space
Very nice decor, service, and French menu. Mushroom brie was fabulous. Good wines available although not fancy sommelier-level. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Charming French-style Bistro
Ba is a charming little French-style bistro, and their steak frites was delicious. The service, although very friendly, was not as responsive as we would have liked given that we had a show to attend after the meal. Also, did not feel that the soundtrack did much to enhance the ambiance, but at least it wasn't overly loud like so many places lately. I would like to return.

This place is terrific!
Everything about this little gem is just grand. Fresh menu changes daily. Do yourselves a favor and check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Refined food in an unexpected spot
The chef here obviously knows his stuff. Started our business
lunch by sharing the chilled blueberry soup, which was delicate and delicious.
The special was a jidori fried chicken with salad and fries, all perfectly prepared. Normally,
We opt for the more French inspired options, but it's nice to know that no matter what we order,
It's going to be great. Hopefully, the neighborhood will discover what an amazing find this
is in such an eclectic community. Great ale and wine lst, too.

Nice to find a good restaurant that serves dinner after 10 PM.
Enjoyed the wine, scallops and sea bass. Flourless chocolate cake was excellent.
Menu could explain dishes a little more (served with vegetables or ...).
Will be returning soon.

First time eating here...made the RSVP based on OpenTable comments. Easy to find...street parking was easily located. Neighborhood is so-so but not scary.. Food was GREAT! Loved the Carrot soup and the wedding cake was...GREAT!
The place is small but we did not feel rushed so that was nice.

A Very Special Place
Ba is amazing! The atmosphere, service, and food are all exemplary. It's a little, cozy space tended by a devoted staff. Our waiter was so present and available, funny and charming. He served the plates just like he knew what a marvelous taste experience we were going to have. We ordered Gem Lettuce and Wild Mushroon Brulee to start and they really complemented each other. But, the Mushroom Brulee, something they are famous for, I will order again in the future. My friend had Moules Frite and I, Salmon. Delicious, we shared our plates with exclamations of "Mmmmm, this is SO good!!" In short, I really recommend it. We got to meet the very talented Chef James and slobber all over him about our food! I look forward a new adventure there.

An inviting neighborhood gem
A flavorful mushroom brulé, rich yet light, was perfectly complemented by a simple bibb lettuce and heirloom tomato salad. We shared each. My grilled prawns were perfectly cooked, as were the accompanying peas, and the accompanying yellow pepper coulis tasted fresh. The wedding cake was, like the brulé, rich yet light. We shared it as well. Their wine list is well edited. We shared a lovely picpoul. The service was professional, attentive but not fussy, down to earth, and warm. The nicely appointed room, contemporary rococo, feels festive and cozy. The noise level never rose beyond a happy babble. Will definitely be back!

Je t'aime, Ba
Beautiful and quiet place with a delicious salmon meal. I took my son and his teacher out for dinner to thank her. They both felt pampered and well-fed. Comfortable and cozy for anyone, and with beautiful food and a hip yet romantic interior. My son had his favorite, steak frites, and his teacher and I had the salmon and sea bass. Seasonal vegetables were cooked to perfection, and savory sauces accompanied each fish dish. We shared creme brûlée and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Sooooo good! I'm a regular for brunch, too. Love this place!

A Fun Place to Try
BA is located in an up and coming area which is fun to visit. The restaurant is very small but offers an interesting (and limited) French-style menu. The food is very nicely presented and well-prepared. The service was great, friendly, but not offensively so. We enjoyed our dinner and are planning a return visit with friends. The only wines served are French - I would prefer some California options.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Second time at Ba. Food was very good to excellent. Everything seemed very fresh and nicely presented. Very flavorful bowl of mussels, served with French fries. Salmon was also very good. In contrast to most restaurants, beyond an interesting list of wines, they also present unique beers (bottled, not draft). Definitely will visit again.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
perfect neighborhood spot
This restaurant has so much to offer. The food is amazing, the owner so nice and engaging, non pretentious vibe, romantic setting, a true gift to the neighborhood. I've heard it's OK for brunch with kids too and the outside patio would probably be OK with kids for lunch or dinner. My husband and I had lunch here without the kids and we were dreaming about more of their steak hours even days later! We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will be back again and again!

Amazing neighborhood spot
Ba is such a neighborhood gem in Highland Park. Good food and good service. What a great place to celebrate anything from your anniversary, birthday to just wanting a nice night out on the town. The French wines are amazing and I especially like the Bordeaux. Go!

No place like it in Eagle Rock
My wife & I were looking for someplace special for her 55th birthday. Ba rose to the occasion admirably. Though the cuisine is French, there were still vegetarian options, which is uncommon & very appreciated. We had a lovely time, & kudos to the low pressure, yet very attentive wait-person.

Sophisticated Gem in Highland Park
Absolutely delicious, creatively classy, perfect for a date or group of friends. The poached haddock swims in corn and Brussel sprouts; the spinach soup marries small potatoes and incredible flavor. First visit won't be out last. Nice find!

Welcome Addition for Fine Dining
Restaurant Ba is a charming and welcoming place. It has a limited but fantastic menu of locally sourced, fresh ingredients. The menu is French bistro with a reasonably priced French wine list. Lots of vegetarian options. We enjoyed our fresh halibut and moules frite and the kitchen was gracious in accomodating our special request. Will definately return.

Ba in Highland Park
Enjoyed a great dining experience at Ba. Cozy, quirky design, intimate restaurant in what looks to be up and coming Highland Park.
Easy street parking . Great charcuterie and cheese platters. I had Duck Confit..delish, and flourless chocolate cake.
Great wine policy..very reasonably priced wines. Buy one from the list and there's no corkage fee
For your own bottle. Overall really good food and great evening out

Quiet little place
French food with excellent service. We went for lunch, the last day for a departing staff member. He had the soup and I had an omelet. Small without being cramped. Nice ambience. I'd go back.

Lucky Neighborhood to have Ba!
After having heard good things about Ba for a while, I met a friend there for lunch this week. Had the Duck Confit sandwich, he had the chicken. Both were good, especially the confit. Also had a flourless chocolate warm dessert with excellent creme anglaise. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu! Met the very nice and talented chef/owner, who obviously works hard at providing the neighborhood with excellent food made with the freshest of ingredients.

Sunday evening at Ba
The dish of the evening for me (and also the thought of my wife) was the Filet with sauce Bearnaise, an absolutely killer preparation which would easily draw me back again for an encore. My wife opted for a special, the Halibut poached in olive oil; the fish was a bit delicately seasoned for her taste, and the portion slightly smaller than she would have liked...all okay, but then she tasted mine. That said, it will be two orders of that sublime beef the next time. The mushroom brûlée was as good as its press, and the dessert a tasty end to the meal. We live in Arizona, but I grew up on the very top of nearby Mt. Washington and we visit the area fairly often. That means a definite repeat visit sometime in the not too distant future.

Amazing Open Table Find
Brunch here was just what we were looking for when we took our son off of the Occidental College campus for a meal. The gravlax benedict was perfect with a creamy benedict sauce obviously made from scratch. The other dishes were just as good. The potato side dish was a tiny bit undercooked (hard to poke a fork into) but flavored well. We will be back.

Great Service and Terrific Food
We are never disappointed with the service and the food. The delicious food comes out hot and fresh from the kitchen.

Small and personal
We were there for the first time on a Friday and were extremely pleased. The food was excellent (salad was simple but fresh and good; potato croquettes were rich, tasty, not greasy, excellent; mushroom souffle was wonderful; mussels...over french fries...sounded weird but was delicious. Service could not have been better; decor is clean and contemporary but with a French influence--we found it very inviting. Everything about the restaurant indicated the owners have given a lot of thought to it--the design, the food, the service. it all seemed very genuine. We tried two wines (our server offered tastes). The first was an inexpensive French Pinot that we didn't find to our liking, the second was fine.
