Devine swine and great service!
We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch at Brookville. My husband ordered the B.F.P. with bacon and managed to finish the entire thing (with a little help from me)! I chose the hangover cure for its multitude of pork products (bacon, rasher & pork belly) and I must say each was impressively unique and tasty.
Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He checked to see if we could get one of the chocolate chip bacon cookies although it was not listed on the brunch menu and we were not disappointed!
I enjoyed our table by the window and liked the exposed brick walls and mason jar glasses. Our check was even presented in a jelly jar which I found to be a nice touch.
We will definitely return to Brookville--we want to try the dinner menu.

Went here based on other reviews
Went here based on other reviews on OpenTable. Fantastic little place. Locally sourced foods that taste good, attentive, bright service, and warm ambiance.
We did the tasting menu (55$/pp) which came with five courses. The chef clearly loves bacon, so if you do not, I would stay away. However, every one of my five courses was excellent, with bacon and other ingredients used in creative ways, and everything cooked exquisitely.
A final mention to the dessert: Bacon ice cream with mexican CocaCola float. Truly unique, but quite good!

Definitely worth a try
Had dinner Saturday evening; dining room (the one not by the bar) was very comfortable and quiet, tables well spaced out. Each of the appetizers/snacks was very good, the surry sausages with mustard and maple syrup, stewed lentils and the fried chicken "sammy" which was huge, could have been dinner by itself; each of us had the house fettucine with bolognese, tasty. The only down sides are no draft beers and a somewhat limited menu, depending on the daily choices provided. For dessert, the bacon float was a hit, the donuts not so much. Service was prompt and professional, all in all an enjoyable time.

I've come here a few times
I've come here a few times for brunch or dessert, but this was my first time for dinner. Food was excellent, as always. I had a roasted duck breast with cheesy grits and ramps, my friend had a fantastic steak with compote butter, and for dessert we had the poundcake with rubarb-strawberry puree and creme anglaise. The menu emphasizes fresh, local foods, beers, and wines -- our dishes aren't likely to be on the menu when you visit, but it will be something equally great. (Get the fesh-baked bacon chocolate chip cookies if they're available.)
I've always enjoyed the atmosphere -- warm and somewhat casual. It's fine-dining food, but the waitstaff uniform is a t-shrit and the check comes in a mason jar -- delicious and not pretentious.

my sister and i went on a slow week night and were greeted warmly and never rushed. food was delicious, prepared and presented with great care....our servers were friendly and efficient....we will be back !

Although the menu is very
Although the menu is very interesting and the appetizers were delicious (sausages, and meat plate), my duck confit was a bit salty and not crispy enough. I had been there before and had been very impressed with my braised beef, so this time I was a bit disappointed. The service was very friendly and attentive but I thought the appetizers were taken away too soon. And sorry, but the bacon ice cream does not work for me. I still would go back as I do like the relaxing yet somewhat formal setting.

We ate here for Mother's Day brunch and all of us (husband and two young adult daughters) enjoyed our food! The b.f.p. pancakes are enormous and delicious. You've got to order one even if you don't like pancakes just for the experience. The bacon was outstanding as were the egg dishes. If you're a coffee fan, they serve their coffee in a french press -- ensuring that the coffee is piping hot. We plan to return to try the regular menu!

We had a really wonderful meal and would certainly want to return. The emphasis on local fare was unique and refreshing. It also has some drawbacks in that at this time of year (early spring) there are more meats available and less vegetables and so the menu was meat heavy. Non-the less, it was outstandingly cooked and creative. The service and ambiance were great too.

Brookville is a must for foodies!!
Everything we had was amazing, from the first bite to the last. The food was fresh and seasonal and very flavorful. As a bacon lover, I appreciated it popping up in unexpected places - like the warm baked chocolate chip, bacon cookie!

Very good first experience with Brookville. We had reservations on Friday evening and was promptly seated on arrival. The host also accommodated our request for a better table when the first table offered was far to the back. Service was good, very friendly, but perhaps too present. The food was delicious. The baked chicken with honey glaze and grits was unique, surprising and fantastic; and the crab cakes with asparagus were as good as any I've had. Dessert was a Belgian style waffle with blueberries & bacon with vanilla ice cream. Again interesting and delicious, though the small portion of ice cream was not sufficient for the waffle and blueberries.

So full, so happy
This was my second time at Brookville, and I was so glad I went back. Not only was the service very friendly and the view nice, but everything I put in my mouth was extremely tasty and satisfying. I really wish more people knew about this place, and if you ever hear about it or have a hankering for a good meal, definitely go. You won't be disappointed.

Brookville has mastered the fine dining experience in Charlottesville. The ambiance is the perfect balance of rustic and quiet elegance. The food is a masterful blend of comfort and surprise. Hints of bacon in many of the menu items give a theme to the delicious options. Our family of 4 had a wonderful celebration dinner on a Saturday night, and felt that our server met our every need and was very knowledgable. With options from fried chicken leg served on a bacon waffle, to the summer squash/scallion short stack, we explored the chef's culinary imaginations. We will definitely return for our next special occasion meal.

we went here to celebrate an anniversary and had read about the food on some other yelp/open table posts, which I am often skeptical about. I cannot oversell how delicious our food was. Hands down one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life! Everything at the restaurant is sourced from within 100 miles and so fresh! Highly recommend this place to anyone

Love this place!
The food is outstanding - locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. At first glance, the (limited) menu might not appeal, but you will not be disappointed with whatever you choose. They do tend to run out of certain items, so go early. We had a group of six and everyone *loved* their meals. The pork belly was sublime, and the heirloom tomato salad delicious. Make sure you save room for dessert - the bacon waffle with ice cream and peaches was amazing. Wednesday nights are 50% a bottle of VA wine, too. I definitely recommend a visit!

Excellent slow food
There were 5 of us at Brookville on a Thursday night over the Summer. The restaurant embraces the farm-to-table "slow food" movement. Nearly everything was from within 100 miles of Charlottesville including the food and the wine so the menu reflected the region and the season really well. The servers were attentive and since it was slow it was very quiet. They gave us two different "snacks" before service including bacon cooked pop corn. The food was creative and delicious. I won't give details because the menu changes every night so it won't help. The wine was all local and we had 2 nice bottles of Virginia white. I highly recommend checking out Brookville.

The great architecture with it's brick walls and beautiful beams sets the stage for a warm, pleasing ambience. The friendly and knowledgeable staff were perfectly attentive. Our whole table ordered the Pork Meatballs with Polenta and Marinara and it was rated a "10" by all! The Chef buys "local" ingredients and wines and the menu changes, accordingly. Last but never least, the ladies room is clean, pretty, and beautifully appointed with linen towels. This restaurant is a Foodie Heaven!

Awesome local offerings
Truly excellent meal. Fresh, locally-produced menu with plenty of options, beautifully prepared, unique flavors (without the bizarre combinations seen elsewhere). Relaxed, comfortable service - not too fancy, not too casual.

very relaxed, comfortable,
very relaxed, comfortable, frienndly w/out being sloppy. The first plates and desserts were among the best we have ever had.
The entrees we chose were very good.
very honest offering of local foods (lots of restaurants say they use local foods, but when you get right down to it, the local offerings are pretty sparse)
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food find
We went on a Thursday night and were the only people in the restaurant, so I hope they will get enough business to be around for a long time, because the food was excellent.

While visiting Charlottesville
While visiting Charlottesville we decided on Brookville because of it's farm to table cusine. We were not disappointed. For an appetizer we had fig salad with a goat cheese and greens. It was excellent. The waiter told us the figs were local. We also had the duck and the meatballs which were also excellent. The portions are very generous. Much larger portions than we are used to in a farm to table type restaurant. But everything was so delicious,

Almost 5 stars
Second time dining here. Limited but clever and delicious menu. My issue is skimpy portions on the fig salads we had. About 2 pieces of frisee and 3-4 sliced figs for $11. It's an inexpensive lettuce - you think they would put more on the plate. Love the bowl of popcorn. We really like Brookville, but the prices keep us from coming more often.

The cookies had bacon!
The four of us dropped in for lunch on Sunday while visiting UVA. Nice, relaxing place, with very attentive service. They served cornbread to start off. We tried the fried chicken sandwich, the quiche and the duck hash. They were all delicious; portions are on the small side so no worries about putting on weight. For dessert, we had the cookies with bacon - never thought of cookies that way before. They were lovely. Also tried a couple of the local beers, very nice.
We'll be happy to go back.
(Finding the place was tricky since its in the downtown mall with a closed road in front, and I did not know that.)

Second visit and it holds up
This was our second time, we actually veered of course just to come here. The food was, as a year ago, outstanding. Chef loves pork and treats everything he touches with honor and creativity. There is nothing to complain about...this guy is doing wonderful work with all elements and thinks outside the box but not so far that you go: What???
Do yourself a favor if you are in or around C'ville...go.

…that passes the Yummy test.
Very creative menu makes extensive use of local ingredients along with a healthy does of bacon and/or bacon fat. Presentation and execution easily matches or exceeds the expectations set by the menu. I'd also suggest taking advantage of the very affordable and well paired wine offerings, which by the way are also local.

We have enjoyed 4 dinners
We have enjoyed 4 dinners here and love the locally sourced food options. Great if you love pork products. The "snacks" are playful and delicious. Homemade potato chips and onion dip were delicious as was the grilled cheese with bacon and apple. No fish offerings this most recent visit which was a tad disappointing but the fried oysters were fabulous and made up for it.

Brookville is a charming restaurant serving local food. We had fried chicken sandwiches and a sausage sandwich all were tasty handfuls, filled with frisée and topped with fried eggs and served with local salad greens. Glasses of Pinot Grigio and the hard apply cider from Bold Rock. Really tasty stuff here! Will be back for dinner!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food at Brookville is always imaginative. The chef uses locally grown produce and does interesting things with eggs. He doesn't get stuck making the same thing week after week or even day after day. I really enjoy going there.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Love Brookville. Just the right amount of perfectly prepared delicious local food. Excellent and knowledgeable wait staff. Great drinks. Civilized. Quiet. Cool.

Delightful and Delicious
They hold a strong commitment to sourcing their ingredients locally (within 100 miles). You can feel and taste the difference.
